Had such a fun time here after having a great meal at the Red Cat watching a live band. Plenty of space to dance or to just hang back and be a spectator. TLDR: A gratuity that I didn't leave was added to my check after eating here. My friend and I visited The Ritz Cafe on 6/22 and 6/23. The first day we visited, service was fine and the drinks were fine. We had no complaints. We visited the next day for brunch and the service was horrendous. It was notably busy so our food and drinks took a bit longer, which we weren't concerned with as we were having a good time. However, the server for the tables next to us was very attentive and ours was the opposite. We maybe saw her twice, including the few times I looked back to see if we could get the check and she stared at us from across the room and made no attempts to come over. Two other people brought our checks as well as took our cards while she stood around. She never came back to our table. To add a cherry on top, when the charge actually posted there was an extra $12 added that I did not leave. Good thing I kept my receipt :). The same happended to my friend. We enjoyed the food from the loud kitchen but I don't revisit places that steal from me so needless to say I will never return. My friend and I tried to call multiple times but no one answered and the voicemail is full. Figures. read more

Not going to lie, this place has become our favorite bar on the Vineyard. They have a mix of djs, bands or they have a trivia and karaoke combo (depending on the night). The staff is wonderful! It's small, but perfect size for the winter and off season crowd. Summer can be busy, so be prepared for a line. I came in here with my husband. We were told to grab a table in the back/upstairs. The other tables were full. We sat there about 10 minutes while the waiter helped another table, walked away. He then came back and cleaned a now empty table and then walked away again. This was the first place we stopped into on our trip and we felt very slighted and questioned if the Vineyard was a racist area. My Brazilian friend who lives here said the service is just poor but I'm still not sure. We walked out the back door because no eye contact was made, no menus were given, nothing. read more

My family and I wondered the entire time who we had offended or perhaps what social norms we had broken simply by walking in. Rude rude rude. We went to the ritz for a drink on a recommendation from a local. Sat down and stared we were only getting a beer but would like to look at a menu just because we aren't locals. The bartender Sarah Gale was more than unfriendly. She snapped the menu out of my hand after telling me she "could have guessed that from a mile away" when I said we weren't getting food. I politely stated that I had already said we were just curious what the local restaurants offered. She was abrasive, unfriendly and made sure of it that we only ordered one drink! The best part about this place is the bar staff. It's nice to find such hard working people that are so friendly and attentive. This place was busy and the 4ft 11 cutie and 6ft 8 mixologist knew what was going on and stayed in sync. They remembered our names, introduced themselves, smiled, and didn't let anyone wait for a drink! I work like this and find that many others at other places do not, so I appreciate great service when I find it! And happily leave more than the standard 20% gratuity. They deserve it! The kid Matt that may have been a bar back or new bartender was also hard at work.The band was great as was the duo that played first! Last time I came I think they had pool tables instead of bands, I definitely like the live music way better and the place had double the business than what it had last time. Part of the heart and soul of Martha's Vineyard. The only bar with live music on Circuit Avenue that you can see into and feel the vibe inside from the sidewalk, thanks to the big glass windows. I never ate there, but great selection of beers and very reasonably priced, like in the $5 range for an artisanal draft beer. Unpretentious vibe, mixed age and everything else crowd. Locals and vacationers. Probably the safest bet for a good pub hang in Oak Bluffs, though maybe a little loud and crowded. read more
