Where in Martha's Vineyard, visiting late October can you get lunch when many businesses have already closed up for the season? So glad I asked the owner of Sanctuary for a recommendation. We walked pretty much back to the ferry dock. It wasn't on the water but across the street. The man at reception was kind enough to unload the items on a sturdy looking crate for Pygmy me to get up onto a high bar stool. I always say I wish I was 2 inches taller. The restaurant had some patrons already eating or drinking. By the time we were done the place was packed. Everything was delicious except the unagi roll was definitely not unagi but some kind of raw cubed reddish fish. M guava ribs was the tenderest almost fall off the bone, perfectly sauced. Very glad we didn't go on the optional 3 hour tour so we could admire the New England style architecture, their landscaping and have time for a leisurely meal. When we had already left the place a couple from the bus who went on the tour asked if we ate there and how it was.

Absolutely loved Lookout Tavern! We were exploring Martha's Vineyard & were immediately drawn to the places over looking the water. It was super busy, but very well run. We were seated pretty quickly and then ordered. I had the Grilled Salmon BLT, and my friend had the Cajun Mahi sandwich. We loved them! This is a "must visit" if you're exploring MV!

We went here twice during our visit to MV. We started with the coconut shrimp and they were okay. Somewhat of a small portion for the price and they didn't have a strong coconut flavor. My partner and I both got the cold lobster roll for our main. I substituted for sweet potato fries (delicious) and she substituted for a salad (also delicious). The lobster rolls were massive and one of our top three lobster rolls we've ever had. The lobster meat was extremely fresh and the roll itself was buttery and perfectly toasted. After our first visit we would have given Lookout Tavern a 5/5 but our second visit didn't quite stack up to the first. Our lobster rolls were noticeably smaller on our second visit and my sweet potato fries were cold. Overall, we plan to return, but with hopes it will be akin to our first visit. The staff was super kind and the view from the deck is beautiful. Such a fun typical beach bar vibe!

Great views, great energy and vibe. Staff were friendly too. Came in on a weeknight. Place was packed! There's outdoor and indoor seating but we opted to wait for an indoor table with a view. Started with some drinks, we got the lookout lemonade and watermelon patch. The drinks were so strong! Tasty but hitting like a truck. Refreshing and sweet, couple of these will get you loose. Next up was the fried calamari and clam chowder. Calamari was damn good. Crunchy and fresh. Best texture and seasoning of all the calamari I ate on the island. I think the sauce is homemade, it's great. I think this clam chowder was one of the best I had on the Martha's Vineyard. Thick, creamy, flavorful. This is a must get. For our mains we had the cold lobster roll and fish tacos. The lobster was tasty! Lots of chunky meat. Squeezed some lemon juice and viola, ready for feasting. The bread was also delicious. Toasted and thick enough to hold all that meat. The chips were meh. The fish tacos were fried to perfection. Light and fluffy, battered well. The corn salsa was delicious.

04.10.2025 This place was pretty good. It was not crowded (off season) and the atmosphere was pretty good. The service was nice. The calamari was cooked perfectly and not greasy! My friend loved her tacos and the lobster roll was really good. I recommend this place!

Missing photos, uploaded what i can find for now. Our orders were usually similar everytime we come here: appetizer not appetizer: whole belly clams plate sushi: mango tango roll, hamachi (sashimi style, not sushi), spicy tuna roll entree: lobster roll & mahi mahi tacos. if we didnt feel like eating fish, then we would order BB King Burger or Chicken wings. Service is always good, on a busy night wait time would be 40 minutes, so plan accordingly. Everyone has to be present and reservations are only made in person not by phone. Things may change since business is slowing down. Thank you Look Out Tavern for your summer service!

lobster roll. That's all you need to know. Get the lobster roll and get it hot and I hope you like butter. low key, relaxed vibe great to grab some seafood and a drink! we enjoyed the clam chowder. Also, we admired their generous portion sizes as it was relatively expensive for a shack like place.

That lobster roll is amazing! This place didn't skimp on the amount of lobster in my roll. The roll has to be the largest I've ever had. Yummy! We had different varieties of the lobster rolls.. everyone loved it. The chicken tacos were are so enjoy by the non shellfish eater. Our server name was Sasha. She was a delight. Very attentive and friendly. Rating: 4.5 out of 5 I'll definitely be back next summer!

    Surf n turf burger

This place was the absolute best! So freaking good. We got the surf n turf burger and guava ribs with the curry mussels to start. 10/10- flavorful, so much food and cooked to perfection. Absolutely come here- you won't regret it!

The view and vibe cannot be improved. The food however, needs drastic improvement. The service was excellent. The waitresses are attentive and do a great job juggling lots of people. The lobster roll was bland and didn't taste like fresh lobster. It was just slapped together sloppily. The lobster bisque just didn't have the right taste. It did look good but it didn't taste good. The sushi is the way to go if you go into the lookout Tavern.

This is a very popular and crammed restaurant & bar. Be prepared to wait for about 30 mins or more for a party of 2 when the weather is good. We took a quick stroll to check out the other restaurants surrounding the block while we waited for our table. We ordered the Tavern lobster roll and the Italian panini, aperol spritz and a blueberry lemonade. The drinks were mediocre. The lobster roll is definitely Jumbo sized compared to other places. You get a lot of lobster meat in a nicely toasted bun with a touch of mayo. Very enjoyable. The cheese in the panini was not melted at all so it ate more like a ham and cheese sandwich. Not enough toasting of the bread either. If we had more time we probably would have researched other dinner options but we left here mostly satisfied and rushing to catch our ferry.

Great service from the hostess' hello to the bartenders final check in. The staff was happy to get me a gluten free lobster roll and it made my whole day. It was delicious and filling and got to me quickly. I would highly recommend Lookout to any weary traveler coming off the ferry, bus and plane.

*sigh* I really wanted to enjoy this place, but apparently I wasn't quite booth-worthy…read more When we first walked in, there were two open tables available. We were told one was being held for a party of four, so no problem - we grabbed seats at the bar and waited. A little later, a booth opened up. Exciting! I went over to grab it and was informed that the booth was reserved for parties of four only. Imagine my surprise when approximately 97 seconds later (not that anyone was counting) two people were seated there. At that point, we were assigned what I can only assume is the restaurant's premium seating package: a table directly in front of the front door. This exclusive experience included a refreshing blast of wind every time someone entered or exited, dogs wandering through the dining area, constant foot traffic inches away from the table, and the occasional chair being carried over our heads for added entertainment. Truly immersive. The food was fine, but it's difficult to fully enjoy a meal when you're left wondering what qualifications are required to sit in a booth. Maybe it's age. Maybe it's attire. Maybe there's a secret booth rewards program. I'll never know. To make things even more memorable, there was also a convenient 6% surprise added to the bill at the end. Thankfully, I had dinner at Bettini the night before, where we were treated like valued guests regardless of age, appearance, or booth eligibility status. It was a nice reminder that hospitality still exists on the island. Wishing the staff the best this summer. If you're hoping for a booth, I'd recommend arriving in a tuxedo, carrying a briefcase, and bringing at least two imaginary friends to ensure your party qualifies. Save yourself the headache. Actually, save yourself the migraine and go somewhere else.
