It's the hot lobster roll for me! I ordered it with fries and a side of garlic aioli and it was so good. This roll was so full of fresh lobster that I had to eat some of the lobster with a fork to start. It melted in my mouth and was hands down one of my favorite meals on the island. Highly recommend enjoying the patio seating here on a nice night. We had a long wait but it was worth it. The service was great! read more

Hmmm. Fast service and very friendly staff. Good drink - had the rum punch - sweet and powerful. I also had the buttered lobster roll. While it's voted the best lobster roll I don't think it was the best I've ever had. It lacked seasoning to me - but the roll was FILLED to the point of almost overflowing out of the bread with lobster. Nothing much to say. Finally, I had the lobster bisque soup - I'll rate this about a 6 out of 10. It had way too much cheese and not enough flavor. We also ordered the calamari - lacked seasoning again. This was my 3rd time visiting and I swear it gets better and better. The food was absolutely incredible. I got the salmon BLT w the homemade chips and it was truly fantastic. First night back on the island after being away for several years. My dad met me at the ferry and we decided to give the Lookout Tavern a try. At first glance the restaurant looked extremely busy but we were told a 15 minute wait would get us a table. Sure enough within 15 minutes we got a text stating our table was ready. Both of us opted for ice water with lemon for our drinks. My dad decided on the flounder taco with corn salsa and coleslaw. I love seafood so had a large lobster roll with butter and homemade chips. Everything was delicious and I would definitely return. I recommend anyone to come give this place a try. FYI: the restaurant offers a sushi menu for those who enjoy eating it. Seafood restaurant with an amazing view in Oak Bluffs. If the weather is good, try to get a seat on the deck with a view of the ocean. It was a bit busy when we went, but we were lucky to be able to get seated right away on the deck. This place was a bit pricey, but everything we had tasted great. The clam chowder was so rich and delicious. I also got the fish and chips which was less fish than expected, but crispy and great with the tartar sauce. It came with a lot of fries as well. My friend and I decided to try this place while on a day trip to Oak Bluffs off a recommendation from someone who lives in the island! I really loved the clam chowder. Piece of shell and claw cartilage got stuck in my teeth when I bit into my $40 lobster roll. The meat was all piled in the middle, so a piece dropped on the floor. The roll was nicely buttered and warm, and there was a slice of lemon. But this is not the "island's best" lobster roll, as claimed. Edgartown's Seafood Shanty's $30 roll was much better. Since it's near the ferry dock and has TVs, it's crowded. We waited for a table, and they have a 90 minute seating limit. The ambiance is 'how many more people can we squeeze in here'. read more

Where in Martha's Vineyard, visiting late October can you get lunch when many businesses have already closed up for the season? So glad I asked the owner of Sanctuary for a recommendation. We walked pretty much back to the ferry dock. It wasn't on the water but across the street. The man at reception was kind enough to unload the items on a sturdy looking crate for Pygmy me to get up onto a high bar stool. I always say I wish I was 2 inches taller. The restaurant had some patrons already eating or drinking. By the time we were done the place was packed. Everything was delicious except the unagi roll was definitely not unagi but some kind of raw cubed reddish fish. M guava ribs was the tenderest almost fall off the bone, perfectly sauced. Very glad we didn't go on the optional 3 hour tour so we could admire the New England style architecture, their landscaping and have time for a leisurely meal. i'm a surprise this place gets four stars. I was unimpressed with the food. I got a buttered lobster roll, which was good, and subbed a garden salad instead of their homemade potato chips. The blue cheese salad dressing tasted like it was from a bottle. I tasted other people's chips, and a few of them were sort of thick and soft while others were thinner and crisper. They lacked flavor; my friends were adding salt to theirs. So the food is sort of mediocre. Service was super friendly and they certainly have a great spot. We sat outside at a picnic table on the side of the building, so no view of the water. But if you sit at the bar height seats up on the deck, looking out on the water, you have a great view. read more

A truly special meal can make all the difference, can't it? There's just something about really good sushi, a really good cocktail, views and solid service that hits just right. It doesn't need to be fancy, or stuffy, or absurd. To be honest, we've had a pretty rough year or two. Lots of stress and tension and just...advanced adulting, you know? The stuff you didn't sign up for. Anyway, we ended up here on a cool May weeknight a couple weeks ago and this meal genuinely turned it all around for both of us. I could feel that all that weight melting away. We were present and enjoying the moment and each other. We were both...happy. Looking back now just a little later, we both are more relaxed and living easier again, like we used to be. The sushi here is fantastic, especially the Crystal Roll. The cocktails are great. Unfortunately I forget the name of the one I had (twice). Our server was friendly and approachable and quick to laugh and chat with us. We can't really afford for this place to become a regular spot, but we've already been back. Whoops. The outdoor area on a nice day is highly recommended. Yes, it's busy. Rightfully so. Both times we were seated within 2 minutes. Maybe I'm hitting that age where I start thinking about my impact on the world and making a difference and all of that...but meals like this make me wish I could open a restaurant to impact people in the way we felt the other night. We went here twice during our visit to MV. We started with the coconut shrimp and they were okay. Somewhat of a small portion for the price and they didn't have a strong coconut flavor. My partner and I both got the cold lobster roll for our main. I substituted for sweet potato fries (delicious) and she substituted for a salad (also delicious). The lobster rolls were massive and one of our top three lobster rolls we've ever had. The lobster meat was extremely fresh and the roll itself was buttery and perfectly toasted. After our first visit we would have given Lookout Tavern a 5/5 but our second visit didn't quite stack up to the first. Our lobster rolls were noticeably smaller on our second visit and my sweet potato fries were cold. Overall, we plan to return, but with hopes it will be akin to our first visit. Started with some drinks, we got the lookout lemonade and watermelon patch. The drinks were so strong! Tasty but hitting like a truck. Refreshing and sweet, couple of these will get you loose. Next up was the fried calamari and clam chowder. Calamari was damn good. Crunchy and fresh. Best texture and seasoning of all the calamari I ate on the island. I think the sauce is homemade, it's great. I think this clam chowder was one of the best I had on the Martha's Vineyard. Thick, creamy, flavorful. This is a must get. For our mains we had the cold lobster roll and fish tacos. The lobster was tasty! Lots of chunky meat. Squeezed some lemon juice and viola, ready for feasting. The bread was also delicious. Toasted and thick enough to hold all that meat. The chips were meh. The fish tacos were fried to perfection. Light and fluffy, battered well. The corn salsa was delicious. read more
