Fishbones is the place to be for a fun time, upbeat music, yummy drinks, beautiful sunsets and pretty darn good food. On 9/10/21, we enjoyed dinner at Fishbones. Fillip was our amazing and vibrant server. Our delicious cocktails for the evening were Pink Sunsets and Margaritas! We shared a delicious Summer Salad, which had strawberries and blueberries. The food was AMAZING! Been visiting the vineyard for a few decades and never gave this place a try until this week. Visited with 3 kids, 9,12, and 13. My husband said the Fried Clam Bellies were the best he'd had in his life. My kids asked to return the next day and order the same exact thing. They aren't much of foodies but couldn't believe how delicious their meals were. They ate the Caribbean burger, Mac and cheese, fried coconut shrimp and chowder. Service was good, atmosphere was watching the sunset over oak bluffs harbor both nights. Manager said good menu was recently revised and all their seafood is super fresh from The Net Result. Makes sense since the clams tasted amazingly fresh. This is one to add to your must visit whether as a couple or family. Kudos! read more

Came to the vineyard on a little day trip and was seriously in the mood for some seafood, so we decided to pop into fishbones because the menu sounded pretty appetizing. Upon walking up to the gate, the host immediately inquired whether we were there for just drinks, or food as well. Honestly in retrospect this was the first red flag, but I didn't really think too much of it in the moment. Server didn't even really greet us, just kinda awkwardly walked up and asked if we were ready to order anything. We ordered the lobster mac and cheese and the fish bones platter, 35 and 45 dollars respectively. Our sodas came in paper Coca Cola cups, and before the food came out she set us up with some paper share plates. Call me annoying if you really feel that this is trivial but if I'm ordering dishes that are upwards of 30 dollars a piece then I'm assuming that we have at least almost enough decorum to provide your guests with real dinnerware. The lobster mac and cheese was something that could really only be described as a monstrosity. The pasta and sauce resembling subpar frozen stouffers, flavorless and actually cold in some spots. It was topped with some unseasoned bread crumbs and one whole lobster claw and a couple pieces of tail meat, which were totally unincorporated into the mac itself, and also chewy, unseasoned, undercooked and cold in the middle. With all this being said, I think the most insulting characteristic of this dish was the portion size. That mac and cheese cost almost 40 dollars and I wouldn't have been satisfied if I had ordered it all for myself! It wasn't even the size of a box of Kraft, and even worse, it didn't even taste as good. It also came with a dry piece of what I perceived to be their take on garlic bread. No flavor, no butter, no nothing. Honestly I have less thoughts on the fishbones platter but what I will say is that they are very sneaky hiding the massive amount of fries that come on that platter under a humiliating menagerie of frozen, dry packed seafood with a soggy breading (which was desperately struggling to adhere to the seafood itself). The two scallops that in there were pretty decent, though overcooked somewhat. The shrimp was overcooked beyond comprehension, not too much to say about the clams, and the fish was actually pretty good I will say. The sorry excuse for Cole slaw was dry and flavorless, but it was kinda nice to top the seafood with. Honestly I'm not saying not to come here because the drinks looked pretty good, but definitely just don't order the food (unless you're eating like a side of fries, those are hard to mess up) P.S. if you have a bigger butt, don't sit at the high top tables. Was wondering around Oaks Bluff and decided to eat dinner at this restaurant. Should have realized it was going to be terrible. They had the plastic down around the dining area because of the rain to come. So hot and sticky. Served soup in paper cup and some food in sped bowls. Place felt dirty and like frat party. I wouldn't come back again. Just a real gross place with no atmosphere other than middle age people at the bar and loud barmaids. One bathroom couldn't get in because of one person being in there for 20 minutes and then who wants to go in to it after that. Owner/manager walking around not busy. Only thing that was food was the wait staff. Spent 270.00 to eat off of paper plates and plastic spoons. Terrible tables . Just a bad place . read more

Alright! Haven't been to MV in a longtime. So last week my Girl and I arrived off the Ferry to check out the sights and have dinner. So we picked Fishbones on a whim. Fishbones looks primarily like a seaside pub, since the first thing you see is the outdoor bar. The views of The harbor are exceptional there. So we went in lucked out and got an outside table right away. A young attentive lady was our server, so we ordered drinks to start. I had a blue berry vodka lemonade. My Girlfriend orders a Corona-rita. The drinks come, my blueberry drink was awful. Tasted like freezer burnt ice with blue Zarex in it I just left it on the table. My Girl's Corona-rita was good! We then order some lobster bisque with the extra lobster in it for an app. OK here comes the bisque in a cardboard cup. I'm like Oh Boy! I'm from these parts so I know good chowder and bisque. So I look at the bisque, it's more red than normal bisque's I had in the past. Then I notice the micro cheese grated lobster pieces in the bisque and I'm laughing now. I took a taste and I immediately start thinking Campbell's tomato soup. It definitely has to be the base the cooks used in this stuff. DON'T ORDER IT HERE. There's $30.00 already spent on lousy stuff. So the three stars rating comes from #1 the service was good and #2 our entrees pretty good, which where the lobster tacos and the steak tacos. The lobster tacos I had where good with decent amount of lobster, just claw and knuckle in them. There's corn, sliced cold cabbage, and a aioli sauce in them, good taste. My Girl's steak taco's where also good. She said the steak was nice and tender. The tacos come with the home made potato chips. These fried chips are thin but hard. I almost got a cut in my mouth chewing one! Be careful eating these! Oh yeah this place give you plastic wear to eat with. I was laughing about that too! After the long boat ride from Hyannis, we decided to get a bite to eat. With the nice view of the boats and water we took a look at the menu and decided to eat here. The servers were very friendly and nice. The clam chowder was very delicious. I ordered the grilled swordfish sandwich ($12.95). Other orders were the lobster roll ($16.95) and the tuna melt ($9.95) all served with chips and can upgrade to fries and other items at an extra charge. All of the sandwiches came in very soft and nice bread. My grilled swordfish was very tasty and the upgraded french fries tasty as well. All of the other dishes were very good too. However, for sandwiches we found that having an average price around $15, it was a little overpriced. Ambiance is ok, being more like a boat shack along the pier. Great for people watching and service, overall, was quite good with friendly server but forgetting to refill our water and iced-tea glasses when they checked on us. Our first stop on the Island! The sun was out after a brief rain and the bars were hopping. I spotted a table in the sunshine and went for it. We only ordered calamari and a couple of beers, but the view was amazing and people watching great. This place had the coldest Corona that we found. Blech. Not how I wanted my first official vacation meal to go. It seems a bit unorganized here. Despite plenty of seating and a sign requesting to wait to be seated, it took 5+ minutes for anyone to come over greet/seat. My salad was...soggy. Totally unappetizing and just icky. Drinks could have been poured better, but I'm guessing given the atmosphere I needed to lower my expectations a bit. The only saving grace of this place was the view and the fact that the Cardinals-Cubs game was on TV. Sunset over the harbor + Cards kicking some Cubbie ass = pretty damn good night. This is our favorite place to go to for drinks and appetizers. We always sit at the bar for quick service. Hands down Nicole is the best bartender on the island! Not only are her cocktails mixed to perfection, she is also quick (I've never seen anyone have to wait for their drinks), always has a genuine smile and seems truly happy to see each guest. Group of 8 and we were seated immediately. Great view of sunset, pier and marina. Make sure to wear your sunglasses if you're facing west. Otherwise you are completely blind. The place was not very crowded and I felt like our waitress should have been more prompt. Getting our drinks took a little too long. Our orders were placed and a variety of cups and bowls of chowder and bisque were served. Both were quite good though a majority of our table didn't finish theirs. Soup came with spoons. We then had to ask for utensils and napkins. You'd think these would already be there. The utensils arrived and I again asked for napkins and sensed a little attitude from the waitress. I guess this review is more of a knock against the service and attention I feel a table of 8 should receive. I would rate the food 4 stars and the service 2 stars, so I'm taking the average. A cook that doesn't know how to prepare traditional dishes. A waitstaff that doesn't know the menu. Fishbones has it all....and less! The Clambake came out with a lobster sitting on top of steamed mussels. The winey taste of the mussel sauce really fouled up the lobster, which wasn't that flavorful anyway. What happened to drawn butter and lemon? This was a disaster. My clam chowder and fries were totally omitted. When I asked the waitress where they were, she replied that they weren't included with the meal. So I showed her the menu and asked for them to go. Then came the apologies. The two tables adjacent to mine also had issues, as I could tell from eaves dropping, a nasty habit I developed when trying to get a sense of service quality. Overall, this place SHOULD have worked. Right on Oak Bluffs Harbor on Martha's Effing Vineyard for god sake! Maybe it was just "late in the season blues". Most of the young and attractive waitresses seemed like there was someplace else they'd rather be. Like maybe doing a triathlon, or back in school. Or perhaps away from memories of the summer island romance gone wrong, or too much sand in the butt. The Sand Bar, two doors down the dockside wasn't doing much better as we had to wait about 20 minutes to find out they were out of LOBSTER! Does no one care on the dockside???? Sadly, this meal turned me off from seafood. I'm sure it's a temporary affliction, but it's a strange twist of events on Martha's Vineyard. The next day some ABC correspondents, who were staying at my B&B to cover the presidential vacation, advised us to restrict our travel plans as apparently Barack would be dining at the dockside. I immediately sent brainwaves to the secret service to direct the POTUS elsewhere (for his own benefit). Surely Obama, who has spent much time at Oak Bluffs, would know what he was doing. Well, I steered clear of the Dockside and went up Circuit Ave to eat at a Thai place, only to find, to my simultaneous relief and dismay that Obama had re-directed to The Sweet Life just next door. Police lines, secret service, black Escalades and Michelle-peepers kept me from reaching my dining goal. Kudos to the POTUS for choosing wisely. They forgot my to-go order, charged me, refused to reimburse! (For the record, this is my first ever review, so this isn't just a rant) I was with a group of 5, pre-paid our sandwiches with a 20% tip at 12:42pm (to save the bartender the hassle dealing with our checks at the end) while waiting on the 1:15pm Ferry, giving us more than enough time to make the boat. We left at with our to-go bag at 1:12pm (30 minutes after our order was placed) and come to find out we had one less chicken sandwich, so I did what anyone else in 2019 would do; I called about the mix-up and asked politely to be reimbursed. What did she do? The bartender refused to refund me my money stating it was my fault for leaving without it! She handed us our to-go bag without the entire order; she messed up! She also said it only took 15 minutes for the order and we left too early...it took 30 minutes. Have text messages for proof. Their fish tacos were excellent, much better than other restaurants on that strip. My husband also enjoyed their cocktails. The pirate smash was excellent! The lobster roll was a large portion of lobster, but I still can't wrap my head around why they would give you so much lobster and have it be so plain. It also said very little mayonnaise on the menu, but it definitely had a lot of mayonnaise. It was a huge joke at our table when it came covered in heavy mayo. It basically was a buttered bun with lobster and mayo. Very underwhelming. The children in our party also enjoyed their meals. But, please keep in mind they do not have a children's menu here so you have to order off the app list. I would recommend less is more. For multiple kids they can definitely split a chicken finger. We had four adults and four children in our party. They did an excellent job accommodating our party. read more

We waited an hour for our food. We had to talk to the manager to get it because we were going to miss our ferry, the last one heading back to Wood's Hole. I think the bartender forgot to put our order in. People that came in half an hour after us got their food before us. When the food finally came out, my New England clam chowder was not hot, just warm. My husband's crab cakes, which were advertised as lump crabmeat, were backfin and claw-not lump crabmeat and they were burnt. All in all it was not a good experience. read more
