My various experiences dining here have been pretty consistent. They are super busy! The staff is very friendly and nice but it takes a long time to get food onto the table. My ds (and all their friends) love the food, love the amount of food, and love the ambiance (e.g., it's super packed with people). This is the fix, casual and enjoyable atmosphere, easy going staff, facing fierce competition from next door, Tiktok, Triple XXX, and Cracker Barrel while offering decent value, good variety, and consistency above average. Old fashioned fare is what showed up, nothing fancy or excessively filling, we enjoyed ourselves enough despite most dishes scared of seasonings. Stopped in for dinner last night, and I'm always super impressed. The service here is always great, and the price is something you can't beat. Our waitress was amazing. She was super nice and very attentive. Everything came out hot, and our drinks never went dry. We got lots of different things, pancakes , pancakes with chocolate bits, french toast ,eggs over easy scrambled, bacon , sausage and mash potatoes. Everything was amazing ! Solid, cheap diner food at a place that doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is, in the best way. I've come here several times with my dear friends who are grad students, getting a bit away from the hustle and bustle of campus. We've always had a great experience here. My friends are vegetarians, and they have plenty of options for them. The food itself is pretty simple, but again it is not pretending to be anything more than it is. This is also reflected in the ambiance and the service. Pretty standard, and perfectly staying in their lane. I'm sure I'll be back here. I never ate the food here, but I walked in to pick up an order and I saw them from the kitchen stacking plates of food on top of eachother like pancakes before taking them out to be served. We come here every so often . My goto here is the Monster Omelette, which basically includes everything except the kitchen sink, with Sausage Gravy on top! It seems to be popular. Their grilled biscuits are usually very good, so I was surprised about some of the negative reviews concerning them. If you haven't tried a Root Beer Frost (another holdover from when Westside was Route 66) give it a shot. For the non-Route66'ers, the Frost is vanilla ice cream blended with your choice of soda -- Root Beer is the most flavorful (IMO). The better the vanilla ice cream, the better the Frost. This was my first time going to the West Side Diner. The food is much cheaper than most sit down breakfast restaurants in the West Lafayette area. The portions are also large. All the food tasted great but the biscuits and gravy came out looking questionable. It was still very good! Omelette was light fluffy and full. Tasted great. Hash browns cooked to perfection. Everything was hot. The toast could have been toasted more. The biscuits and gravy were very good. I think going with traditional sausage gravy instead of country gravy would be something to look at. There was a little too much flower in the gravy. I have been a general manager at several restaurants chains that serve breakfast and overall I would go back again fair price good amount of food and felt happy. That's what we all want. read more

Another good breakfast spot in West Lafayette. More diner type of feel, service was fine, you pay up at the bar and there is usually a wait to get seated. Parking is in a small lot. Moving to West Lafayette soon and on a house hunting morning I stopped in to get breakfast. I always judge a diner by its waitstaff and its country fried stake and eggs. 5 out of 5 FOR BOTH!! I came in at around 8:30 and the regulars were just arriving, I sat at the counter hoping I did't take anyone's regular place. The old guys were complaining about the first cold morning of the season as the server was shutting off the A/C for them. The diner is very clean and welcoming when you walk in. Well as you can see you are not going to go hungry here! The portions were plentiful, the eggs were over medium just as ordered, the steak was HOT, the biscuits and gravy were uniquely toasted and buttered(I now have a favorite way of getting them), the sausage gravy is a 5 out of 7 against my brothers homemade gravy, and the hash-browns were a perfect combo of crunchy and potato-y. The kicker? This meal, before the coffee and tip was 10 bucks!!! So out the door for $15! This was yet another great welcome back to the midwest after 25 years in California where this breakfast would have been easily $35 and the last 12 years in Colorado where this would have easily been $25. This is the biggest cinnamon roll I've ever had honestly. It was so soft and delicious. I got it as takeout and the icing came separately so I got to add it to my taste. I loved eating it so much. I will say that when we went there to pick up our order, it was ridiculously busy and we had to wait so long to get our food and we didn't order much so just be prepared for a wait. There is a place to sit and wait but it felt like people were walking around everywhere. I didn't really feel like the service was too considerate but the food is good. My only trip to WD was for breakfast on a very busy Sunday morning. The facility is small. The tables are squeezed together tightly. Unfortunately I sat in what ended up being a high traffic area for everyone. So my chair and coat were constantly being bumped. On top of that the dinner is very loud. You won't find a relaxing meal here. I also found it very odd that people had to enter in behind the counter area to access the restroom. Obviously layout in this dinner could be improved. That said...the meal was pretty good! The menu is decent size. There was enough of the usual breakfast items to pick. I had the corned beef hash and eggs plus a one biscuit side of gravy. The hash was very good - better than most places. The hash didn't have a strong corned beef flavor. However it was cooked to perfection - slight crisp on the edges. I added plenty of Tabasco sauce which cane standard at the table. The gravy was a bit bland. I had to spice up with a lot of pepper. The biscuit was split and "smashed" to the plate. I've never had a biscuit that was so thin. That created a little bit of a tough texture to cut - just odd. I had the sour dough toast which was a bit dry. I had hoped that it was made fresh on site. I don't think it was since it didn't have a fresh and moist flavor. My wife said her English muffin was probably the best she has had (fresh) at a dinner. I was impressed by the POS system used to take and process our order. Very easy to do which created an Informative and fast check out. I was also impressed by the team working here. I saw a lot of teenagers and 20 somethings working. Very few older adults. I assume this is a family business. If so...they did an excellent job at hiring and training good employees. Our waitress was very attentive as she could be on a busy day. There was a lot of staff on hand to handle the rush. I was most impressed with the bus boy who wiped the crumbs from the table into his hand instead of onto the floor. This young man frequently washed his hands throughout the shift (as the sink was in view of the whole dining room). Out doing doordash on 10/13/2024 with my nephew and came across an order for this restaurant . sent my nephew in to get the order and he got told to stand outside and wait on the order all because he is a black man. If you don't want African Americans to come and shop with your business or deliver for you, you shouldn't be in business. To see that racism still exist to where you can't go into a restaurant if you're black is sick and sad. I don't know if the worker wanted my nephew to get out his character, but he did not. He politely left and waited outside for customer food. If you read reviews before going to a restaurant and you an African-American, I suggest you go somewhere else. We will not be excepting anymore orders for pickup at this location. This location receive zero stars. read more

This is difficult to write because I have enjoyed many breakfasts here. I sat down at the counter this morning to order breakfast at 10 AM. The restaurant wasn't very busy and there was staff standing around doing nothing. I was patiently waiting for a menu and for a server to take my coffee order for about 10 minutes. At 10:10, another gentleman sat down at the counter and was immediately given a menu and asked if we wanted coffee. I made eye contact with the server and the gentleman before picking up my belongings and walking out. This is unacceptable. We went here 2x for breakfast. The first time I got French toast and it was ok but didn't have a ton of flavor. The next time I got biscuits and gravy and ended up returning them to the kitchen, biscuits tasted like second day microwaved biscuits and were very tough even with the gravy! I like this place. My first visit was today. They did a nice job of remodeling. The space is clean and open. Server and other staff were friendly. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich with home fries. It was tasty enough but was more like a slightly sweetened ham, egg, and cheese sandwich that was a little thin on the ham. The home fries seemed to be just a cut up baked potato. They tasted ok they just seemed "unfinished" compared to home fries i've had before. I do not like the coffee. The coffee was very weak and tasted a little off. Kind of common for diner coffee though. These criticisms are not major. I like this place and will be back for another visit. read more

I have three more complaints about this diner. First I went to emphasize that the staff is always kind and helpful. 1. The bathrooms have been cleaned up a bit, but they still look like the insides of portapotties. Disgusting. 2. It's good that you buy Folger's coffee, but the water in West Lafayette is so foul that the coffee is always bad. Please invest in a commercial reverse osmosis filtering system or call the Culligan Man. 3. Why is the credit card reader always broken? The staff is obviously inconvenienced and embarrassed that they have to take people's credit cards and enter the information manually. This happens every morning I am there for breakfast. Westside Diner is the sister location to the Southside Diner on Veterans Parkway. I have been to the Southside location many, many times. This was my first visit to Westside. The menu is exactly the same American diner food. However, the decor of the Westside location is much more modern than the standard decor (meaning, not much of any decor) at the Soutside. Now I wish the Southside would up its game and adapt the same decor. I ordered the Supreme Chicken Salad, which is chicken salad on top of greens. The server asked me what dressing I wanted on it. I was perplexed. If it has chicken salad on it, why would I want dressing. She said most people get ranch dressing. Pouring ranch dressing onto chicken salad seemed somewhat distasteful to me. So I got it "plain." I'm glad I did . I got a generous amount of chicken salad on top of the greens that included a couple of slices of tomato and cucumber, and half of a hard boiled egg. I could barely eat all of it. I've had the chicken salad in a sandwich so I knew it was good. Glad to see that West Lafayette is finally catching up to Lafayette. :-) read more

Pretty solid food here. Much better service than the sister joint south side diner. The omelets are made well and standard fare doesn't disappoint. The gravy is a bit bland and the biscuits are hard to read. They eat like frozen biscuits that are reheated on the flat top, nothing special. The cleanliness behind the scenes might make you want to go elsewhere though. The bathrooms looked like they hadn't been tended to in days. They are always busy and food comes out pretty quick. Such a wonderful place with such wonderful servers! I just moved to the Midwest (from San Francisco) and this was the first time coming to Indi and it was a great experience. The food was good. My server was so sweet. I wish I would have gotten her name. I got the taco salad. It was huge and so beautifully presented.
