We were at this resturant for dinner because we stayed at the quality inn where this place is located. We were pleasantly surprised by the food and the staff. Ted was fabulous!! We thoroughly enjoyed everything, from the super fresh salad bar, although small, also includes lovely pasta salads and 2 homemade soups. The stuffed shrimp and perfectly cooked steak were the main dishes my husband and I shared together. We just had to tell the handsome chef how "ocean fresh" the shrimp were, like the Oceanside restaurant we had visited the day before in MA! What a lovely surprise to get such great seafood in the Poconos! This restaurant is definitely on an upswing with this chef, and I highly recommend that you give it a try! read more

I had to leave a star in order to post the review. The reality is the restaurant was closed on Friday evening when we arrived! It looked fairly abandoned, like it hadn't been open for some time. Well... I really did want to like the food here. The place is cozy looking, especially on a night like this when it's snowing out (up to 7") and we drove from NYC in this storm... a fairly terrifying ordeal. The wait staff is nice, but incredibly stressed out, as the place is about 75% full... which is apparently way too busy for them. At 9pm, folks were still coming in as if it were the only place open in town. My own prior restaurant experience is kicking in and I feel like jumping up and running the food to the tables for them. Raw stress here. It's like... the owner just arrived now and is cleaning tables to get them caught up. The hostess (?) who just arrived just sat 2 ppl at a booth that can probably seat 8 ppl! I was like... WTF? So, I knew what we were in for in terms of how busy they are because the waitress kind of warned us. I'm not really in a rush... it's just that... I waited about a half hour for the food, and it was not very good. The chicken parm ($15.95) tasted kind of like the dried parsley they sprinkled on top of it... the Ruben (sp.) Sandwich was basically tasty, but the corned beef was like... elastic. I'm not sure if that means it's old or what, but maybe living near Jewish delicatessens has spoiled me. The funniest thing was how I asked if I could pay with a $100 bill... the poor waitress was looking at the folks working the bar, as they have the change. She didn't want to interrupt them because they were on overdrive. So I gave her a couple of 20s, and was owed $14 back. She gave me $12 because she didn't have enough change.... she apologized and basically was willing to forfeit a decent tip because of the whole experience. She really did the best she could given the situation, so she got a decent tip, but I hope none of it was pooled to the owner! I won't go back, but y'know, there are worse places out there. The restaurant is inside the quality inn which is very convenient if you don't want to go out for dinner. That being said though, you really can't expect much from it. We got the sampler appetizer to start, the delmonico steak, burger, and small plain pizza. Everything tasted fine but was just that. The appetizer wings were spicy with enough sauce but tasted like cheap frying oil. Potato skins were good as well as the chicken fingers. My steak was fine but a little over cooked as well as the green beans it was served with. Burger tasted fine and pizza looked like it was microwaveable. The dinner rolls they serve warmed with the olive oil were my absolute favorite, we had to order more lol. Everything is really cheap and not a bad option if you are hungry. read more

The food was nothing special and did not taste very appealing. Not sure who told them to do this, but their potato skins are just cheese wiz and a strip of bacon. So nasty. I'm giving this one star for the service. Food was the blandest I've ever had, anywhere. It wasn't the cook. The 12 ounce demonico was cooked perfectly. Wasn't the waitress. She was sweet and answered our questions, and was very attentive to us. We stopped here on the way home from JFK Airport. We both got the special, chicken fried steak, which came with soup and salad. Everything was excellent, it was just what we needed. The place is spotless and the people were very friendly and welcoming. The owner came out and checked on us. Then later brought us out complimentary fresh baked pumpkin bread. It's off exit 308 on Rt 80 and we're going to keep the hotel in mind for future reference! read more

This place is just awful! The staff are actually very nice here, but the manager or owner is a complete jerk. While we were waiting for our horrible food to arrive, he constantly berated the staff right in front of us. He caused them to make mistakes and be very slow. His behavior alone will make us avoid this "restaurant." Now on to the food. We ordered Hummus which arrived with stale flavorless pita chips, very obviously from a bag. The hummus itself was oily and plain disgusting. If you like it that way you'll be glad to know there is a lot to the portion. My wife ordered a burger which was plain and generally tasteless while I ordered a sandwich which was sloppy and did not taste fresh. Our overall perception of the place was that the staff is very willing to provide service but those who are in charge have no desire to allow them to. This diner is located within the Budget Inn, where we stayed. To be honest, I didn't have a good first impression of the hotel or the restaurant... But to my surprise, both the hotel and the diner made my Pocono vacation stay wonderful! The staff was EXTREMELY pleasant. The best service, period. Had dinner here for two nights in a row and everything was so good. Their food is all homemade. They have day to day specials that aren't found on the regular menu. For example, Wednesday would be 'Spaghetti and Meatballs' (pretty big portion) and Thursday would be 'Delmonico Steak' (sells out quickly). Entrees come with 1-2 sides, and I highly recommend the spinach and roasted tomatoes. Delicioussss tomatoes. They even have tomatoes growing by the front entrance! Prices are also very reasonable. All in all, I am super glad to have brought my family to Budget Inn and Roasted Tomato. They all loved it and would love to go back again. read more

One star for convenience from the Budget Inn, half a star for the nice staff, and a half star for the food. It took at least 10 minutes to get seated in the half-empty restaurant, which was buffet-style. Seems like a place like this should have silverware ready at the table and let people get their food in one minute. Instead we waited for the hostess to accept two people's payment and take care of other things, all while saying it would be two more seconds because they were backed up with the tables. Again, the place had maybe three tables of people. The breakfast buffet was pretty unappealing. The best parts were the waffle (that we made ourselves), the biscuits and sausage gravy, and the orange. The eggs looked rubbery, the oatmeal looked dried out/solidified, the French toast looked like brown Wonder bread, and they were out of bagels, toast, sausage patties, and pretty low on a couple other items. This was around 10am, when breakfast buffet was supposed to go until 11:30am. Service and decor were fine, but if you want to spend $10 a person for breakfast, opt for McDonalds or another fast food place for a hot meal. read more

Went to the roasted tomato tonight at 4:45. They advertise a salad bar with your entrée with soup and bread. Walked in, no salad bar, no soup, no bread. The hostess said business wasn't good enough for the salad bar on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but they will have it Friday and Saturday. I'm not there Friday and Saturday I was there Tuesday! I thought I would stay anyway because years ago I enjoyed their pecan crusted pork chops. When I mentioned that to the waitress she said hold on a minute let me check. Went to the kitchen came back and said they had no pork chops. Not sure what they did have? maybe a bottle of water? So, what's going to happen when you order an entrée that they do have, maybe, and there's no salad bar or soup or bread are they going to discount the entrée price? I walked out. As I'm leaving the hostess said please give us another try another time. I DONT THINK SO! Perfect example of a bait and switch scam. False advertising also. I stayed at the quality inn...and the Roasted Tomato is down stairs in the lobby. I am completely turned off and not impressed with the quality of the food. I ordered the delmonico steak, chicken parmigiana, and chicken fingers and fries. Everything is under seasoned and very bland. The steak was too charred around the edges and it was a lot of gristle, the baked potato was over baked and the mixed vegetables were hard. The French fries with the chicken tenders tasted like old oil, and the chicken parm just lacked flavor. The restaurant itself looks like a New York high school cafeteria with silverware. The staff was very nice but the food...the food was terrible. read more

We were really disappointed in this restaurant remake. My husband's steak was overcooked, and although it came with two sides, we had to pay a dollar for him to have salad as one of his sides. One star for being the only place to eat within quick walking distance of the Budget Inn. One star for exceptionally nice service, very friendly and attentive. One half star for the coffee - decent and free refills. One half star for the entirely unimpressive breakfast buffet. It resembles a mediocre continental spread: cereal, weak baked goods, toast, yogurt, etc. The eggs, pancakes and french toast that are stored on the buffet should really be made to order. The prices are a little higher than I would expect, but we had a 25% off coupon so it was about what I would expect to pay. The salad bar was fresh and looked and tasted great. The corn chowder soup was kind of blah but everything else was great! My parents are super picky and they said their scallops were cooked perfectly. We had a great time. I don't know if it would've been better if I ate in the restaurant rather than getting takeout but the grilled veggie sandwich was pretty sad. The description said cheese but there was no cheese. So I just had some grilled peppers and onion falling out of a cheap white bread bun. I would at least suggest sautéed mushrooms and pesto, and a whole-grain bun. The guy who answered the phone when I placed the order didn't sound very interested, guess that should've been my first hint. Nice that they have some vegetarian options but that sandwich was a real disappointment. Back after a few months and no improvement. Even though if staying at the hotel a coupon would make it an inexpensive meal, I can't get myself to return. We've tried it a few times since it's attached to hotel. No more. Once we waited FOREVER, once one of the employees was getting spoken to in a not very nice voice on floor (take it inside the kitchen), a plain pizza we ordered wasn't very tasty but wasn't the worst we've had in PA (have to remember being from NJ most won't be as good as we're used to in NJ/NY). It was thin, which we like, but the crust was too hard to eat. Oh, and they have a wing special. $2 off. If you get a dozen they won't let you do 6/6 for sauces, they make you pay the higher price for ordering 6. Stupid. They won't let you take them to go with special, eat-in only. And if you don't finish, they won't give you a to go container. Seriously? Better off just going somewhere else. read more

In New York food like this we serve at all you can eat buffets for $5. I mean come an reheated caned soups , out of the box M&C and some yucky salad dressings, it makes me want scream how difficult it is in this area to find decent food. Waitresses were nice and friendly but the food is just very bad. For breakfast they served this chefs specialty , half boiled egg on top of muffin with tomato and some weird thing that looked like cheese and tasted like vomit . Yucks read more
