A very good friend of mine has been imploring me for some time now to try out The Rolling Rib. She has said she would no longer go to Famous Dave's or any chain BBQ joint after experiencing this place. This place is only open Fri-Sun so I was in luck. First off, you better put the address in your GPS because The Rolling Rib is on a random side street that carries a Marlboro Pike address. Once you enter the parking lot, you have that "Holy Crap" moment. Cars were parked on the grassy areas, double parked, parked backwards.. this was NUTS, but since I was here I was determined to see what the buzz was all about! I ordered the "Fat Box" which comes with two Pork Ribs, two Chicken Wings a piece of corn bread and a side. I chose the Mac and Cheese! I placed my order at 2:37pm, I didn't get my food until 3:13pm. For all of you non-mathematicians out there that's 36 minutes! So of course now I'm thinking.. this food better be PHENOMENAL or else!! The smell had me flying home hoping I didn't get hit by one of those stupid speed cameras that seem to pop up when you least expect it! Here's the skinny!!! Will I give up Famous Dave's.. HELL NO!!! Was it worth waiting almost 40 minutes....HELL NO!!! Were the ribs and the mac and cheese PHENOMENAL... HELL YEAH!! Huge ribs, meaty, tinder and the sauce...OMG!!!.. The Mac and Cheese could not have been better!! The chicken wings were average at best. I would not recommend these. Very tasty but small! I must say, I may have come at a very bad time (After church services), however, I won't take the chance next time so I will DEFINITELY call in my order.. I'm just praying they offer that service! Been eating there for many years, and their BBQ and side orders are delicious. The only problem is I wish they would use their Facebook page to notify people when they have a change of hours or, are not going to be open. The food is good and they do have a loyal following however, they have lost customers because of this, hence the 4, not 5, star review. read more

This was my first and last time at this place. Customer service was ok until I checked my bag. I ordered pork ribs, wings, yams, greens, potato salad and originally fries. I asked about the fries after I placed the order. She said they put bbq seasoning on and I didn't want that. I asked for Mac and cheese. I ordered sauce on the side because I didn't know how the sauce tasted and didn't want to take a chance. They gave me about 6-9 ribs. Fair size at a glance. They gave me ONE little container of sauce that wasn't full. I asked for another and it was $.37. For all these ribs one thing of sauce. She tells me if you get it on the side, it's one per order. A man comes out and gets smart and says see the sign one per meal. I said yes I see it but it doesn't say if you order on the side that is what you get. I'll update with pic. So he went to the back and got another little cup. He had an attitude. He said I just want to close and clean up. I said ok here is the money he said no. It's fine. I'll give you the money I don't want trouble and they both walked away while I was putting the money on the counter. Oh and they charged me for hot sauce as well. SMH. The ribs had an ok flavor but there was so much fat that I gave up. I didn't try the wings yet but I will. The yams were very good. The greens were bland. The Mac and cheese was ok. The potato salad was very good. Oh and I had the strawberry lemonade and that was amazing. All in all, it wasn't the best but it wasn't the worse either. Saturday morning, this horrible son missed the Mother's day dinner so I have to beg for her forgiveness a week later. Long story short, we can do something fancy, or we can do something comfy. The Rolling Ribs Part 2 was my choice for this special occasion. From the outside, it is just another carry out restaurant, but what is inside has more to offer than I have had in years. My father is a pulled (minced) pork kind of guy; my mother and I are all about ribs. My wife got a whiting platter. THE FOOD: There is no other way to say this, the food is absolutely delicious. The meat on the ribs do not fall off the bones, but does it have to be? The texture was as expected of ribs, the tenderness was just right with minimal effort. The flavor was distinct with a bit of spice to it. The portion is enormous, it was 2+ meals worth of food for the order. The sides are pretty standard in selections, but the taste is definitely memorable. THE PRICE: Very affordable. THE STAFFS: Friendly, I can feel the love among the people in the community. The order was rather large for four of us. It came to ~50 USD worth of food, the staff gave us 2 ribs for us to snack on while waiting for the order. SUMMARY: I have gotten fat over the years due to my love of food and lack of exercise. It's takeout on a side road near MD Route 4 in a boring building that you can easily miss if you are eastbound. The parking lot is full, there's a line; there's a reason. Nom, nom, nom; this review will be short cause my fingers are covered in bbq sauce and my mouth is full. This was the second visit, the first one was on a lark and based heavily on a rather unassuming location and excellent yelp reviews. Visit number one: we were staring at the menu board for a moment too long and the nice lady one other side of the counter gave a knowing smile and asked if we eat pork; as soon as we both said yes, she disappeared and then reappeared with a couple of ribs on wax paper and handed one to each us. SOLD! One fat box each, please. The wings and ribs were excellent as were the sides and the cornbread. We got different sides on the second trip and the previous statement holds true. The downside: they are seasonal and closing for the 2016 season in mid-November (the sign said last day in 2016 is November 13th). Worth the 20 minute drive from Alexandria. BBQ pork sandwich is tasty - maybe the best I've had in the DC area. Great sides. Reasonable prices. Very friendly crew taking orders and putting them together. For a place with long lines and signs warning you there will be a wait, in fact things move pretty quickly. Took 33.5 minutes for My slab of ribs. On the drive home ribs smelled a little funny so after getting home I suggested my husband eat a small portion to test the taste. now, my husband is unlike Mikey from the cereal commercial will eat anything. He came to me about 10 minutes later and told me to never purchase from this place against . The ribs were tough,smelled funny and not cooked through. My son agreed. The menu should say collard stems with a few greens.The Mac & cheese flavor tasted like it had been in a freezer and had freezer burn.The cooks would do better using Jiffy boxed mix instead of whatever they used. to make the muffins.I live 23 miles from this place and was not about to return them.Too much for me ( I eat plant based ) .so I have no personal taste test review. The smell gets me every time! You will not go wrong by stopping in for a rib platter. The ribs are perfect! Seasoned very well and so tender Mmm Mmm good! Now let's get to the sides. The greens & Mac & cheese are pretty good. Reminded me of an after church meal at my mommy's house. BUT the candied yams taste like they are straight out of the can How dare you serve me CANNED candied yams!! MAJOR disappointment I could do without the corned bread! Finally, they are open.... First let me start off by saying this restaurant would've been easily missed if it weren't for all the cars out front, on the side of the building and parked on the sides of the road. So I walk in and it is absolutely small. ONLY A TAKE OUT RESTAURANT. The order/wait area was crowded, which was hard for me because I had my kids in hand. I waited about 5 minutes to order due to customers ahead of me and had to wait about 30 minuets for the food to come out. They have about 5 bar chairs in there for waiting customers but like I said it was crowded. So standing and having to rotate the kids up on my hip, got tiring and the constant bump was annoying to say the least. So my number got called and I went to the counter and waited to be acknowledged but the cashier kept taking different customers orders while looking pass me. I didn't want to be rude and interrupt but after he took the third customers order and ask the fourth customer what would he like I said "excuse me, they called my number" he looked at me and turned around grabbed the bags and pushed it in my hands. No thank you, or sorry for the wait or anything. Felt that was pretty rude. I ordered the fat box with Mac n cheese, cabbage with extra side of collards. I also ordered the banana pudding. The ribs were so good, not too fatty at all, the collards reminded me of my moms collards. And the banana pudding was the best I've had since I was a kid. The Mac n cheese, cabbage, and chicken were bland, and forgettable. I took a star off for the over crowding and the confusion and rudeness of the cashier. Not taking one off the the bland food because it wasn't nasty just forgettable. We paid a visit to the Rolling Rib II after I snagged a Living Social deal for this place. The food was fantastic!! We ordered two platters and a lemonade/iced tea to share. One platter had beef ribs, mac & cheese and greens, the other had brisket, potato salad and green beans (they were out of baked beans). Positives: The ribs were delicious & very flavorful! The mac & cheese was good, and so was the potato salad. The lemonade iced/tea mix hit the spot, as it was a very warm afternoon. However, I see why someone on Yelp referred to it as liquid diabetes. It is very sweet! The greens were okay. Negatives: The brisket was very tender with just enough fat around the edges, however, it was a little too salty. I had to use their "Fat Sauce" (a sweet, bbq-like sauce) on the brisket, in order to take away from the salt. I did not like the green beans (they looked as if they came from the can). I was expecting fresh green beans, but then again, that would be a little time consuming for them. Overall, we will definitely go back if we are in the area. The staff was extremely kind. They spoke to us as if we were family. There is nothing quite like awesome customer service and delicious food! read more

Not great. I was expecting mouth watering BBQ. The brisket was dry and tough, not at all tender like it should have been. The chopped pork was decent. The BBQ sauce itself was tasty. My wife said that their ribs were Outstanding. The only reason I won't give it a five star is because its only open on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays. I absolutely adore this place. It's just about a a weekly visit for my fiancé and I. My go to order is beef ribs, macaroni and greens. My fiancé will order whatever ribs are available ( beef or pork) with macaroni, greens and yams. The strawberry and lemonade tea is amazing as well. I actually did a little dance in my seat when I first tasted it. My only complaints are, they usually run out of beef ribs fairly quickly and they are only open three days a week.
