We got up and left after 45 minutes and went somewhere else because we were starving. No one came to check on us or tell us the status of our food. There was a table that got there 20 minutes after us and they got their food first and they had more people at the table than we did. My husband had been hearing great things about The Rolling Rooster, and we finally had a chance to try it out last night. We had the fried pickles and jalapeno poppers as appetizers, both were hot, fresh and well-seasoned. Hubs had the chicken tenders and waffles, I had the oxtail plate with collard greens. Both were good, but my oxtails were a little dry. They also could have used some sauce/gravy, especially since they were served over a bed of rice. I'm not usually a fan of collards (I prefer mustard greens), but these were extremely flavorful and tender. I also had an a la carte chicken wing, and that was the star of the show for me. They were very busy, and seemed short-staffed, but all of the employees did a great job helping each other out, and were gracious and attentive. I've worked in the service industry for a long time, and it's very easy to stress out when you feel like your "in the weeds": if they were under any duress, they didn't show it. I've come here a few times and order to go. Usually the food comes out pretty quickly and I'll be on my way. The food is always seasoned very well. The chicken is juicy and the waffle fries have the right amount of crisp. I went in to order this evening at around 8:20 pm. I ordered a 2 piece with a side of okra and a combo of 3 fish, 3 chicken and a side of waffle fries. I was told my food would be ready in about 8 minutes. The dine-in didn't seem too busy, but they were getting quite a bit of orders from Grubhub and other call-ins. I was waiting patiently, then the lights went out for two seconds and came back on. I don't blame them for this, obviously, and I expected to wait a little bit longer. I was hoping that they would have at least started to fry my food. Another 15 minutes pass before the cashier told me that the two second blackout caused the orders to get all jumbled up and it would only a little bit longer. Another 15 minutes pass and I finally get my food. I was too annoyed after waiting an hour to get my food. I suspected that they messed up the order somehow. And sadly, I was right. They didn't give me the 3 fish as part of my combo. Things happen and you can't be 100% all of the time, but I would have liked an apology for making me wait an hour just to get 5 pieces of fried chicken, waffle fries, and fried okra. On top of that. The family members or friends of the people that work there were constantly coming in and out of the restaurant and holding the door open for no reason. A few minutes later the waitress came back to ask me what I ordered since she forgot. 10 minutes passed and no drinks. My daughter and I went to the restroom (another 5 minutes) and came back and still no drinks. I saw our waitress just talking and laughing, so clearly customer service is not on the priority list for this place. I told my husband I couldn't take it anymore and we had to leave. I know he was upset, but how can customers be treated this way! I refuse to spend my money at an establishment that doesn't even care about service no matter how good the food may be. My wings were really good but his tenders.......awww man! The tenders were soooo juicy and amazingly crunchy covered in something that resembled corn flakes. The waffle was delicious. It almost had a savory taste to it. I always said I would never eat chicken and waffles but they most definitely changed my mind! We returned a week ago and something definitely changed. Our server didn't even bring our waters, we had to ask a different server while ours was trying to mulit-task taking orders at the register while also taking phone calls. Never even got the lemonade we asked for. Our food took forrrrrrever to come out, making me a bit nervous. This time I got the catfish with the wings and shrimp. The wings were really fatty and the "catfish" had no flavor at all. In fact, all I could taste was the cornmeal it was drenched in. The shrimp was okay. I came here yesterday with my son and we literally waited over an hour for our food, we sat down at 5:00. When we got our food, my son received his first at 6:15, I remember checking because I was so livid and I received my appetizer a few minutes later and then my food around 6:25. The ONLY reason I stayed is because my 9 yr old wanted chicken and waffles. I had to ask the young lady for a refill and I saw other people leave because the wait was so long and no one came to check on them. I asked twice how long the food was going to be and she stated, "they are making it now". The second time I asked, I told her it's been over an hour that we've been waiting and she responded with, "the back is really busy". Then when she gave me my food, she slammed my tray down and had a attitude. I was done after that. I also tasted their macaroni and cheese, greens, and waffle fries. I could taste the soul. I wasn't impressed with the waffle fries and wouldn't order those again but what they are known for is their chicken and waffles and rightfully so. The environment is clean and family friendly. My children loved the chicken. They have both booth seating and tables. They also have a bar. This is a traditional restaurant. You order your meal at the table. Our food came out rather quickly and was fresh which was impressive. They are located inside a strip complex so the parking is plentiful. Outside of the food, what stood out to me was the customer service. One of the staff members, who wasn't even our waiter came over to our table to check on us and held a nice conversation with my husband and son. They talked sports and Star Wars and he even walked us out of the door upon leaving and talked to us some more, making recommendations for us to see while in town. I also witnessed him doing the same to other patrons so it really made you feel at home. We did have a discrepancy on our bill both days because they were in the process of switching out their menus but on both days our bill was corrected without hesitation. 3 hours later and my mouth is still dry from how salty the food was. I had chicken tenders and waffles which came on a metal tray covered with tissue paper. The 2 stars are for the waffles, which were awesome. The chicken was crispy but it was a bit tough and salty. So after putting some syrup on everything, trying to cut through it ended up shredding the tissue paper which mingled in my food. Unpleasant. I was also surprised that there wasn't any special sauce for the chicken and waffles, just the syrup or bbq sauce at the table. My friend got a side of greens which tasted like a salt lick.
