They were perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of vinegar and cooked to that ideal tender texture without being mushy. The fried chicken and catfish were outstanding. Both were well seasoned, incredibly crispy, and tasted like they were fried in fresh grease. Every bite was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The baked macaroni and cheese was good, but it leaned a little more toward a Velveeta-style cheese sauce than my personal preference. Still a solid 9/10. I also ordered the Peach Passion Fruit Hennessy margarita, and it was superb. Smooth, flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. When we arrived, there was an employee standing behind the register with a mop and bucket, and I noticed that no one handling food was wearing gloves. The young lady at the register left quickly when we approached, and when I asked if we could dine in, she told us there was no room. That felt unusual, but we decided to order takeout. While placing the order, she mentioned there were plumbing issues and something was overflowing, which raised another concern about the cleanliness of the environment. She also seemed anxious and unprofessional during the interaction. We were told the food would take about 15 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 30-45 minutes. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations, especially for the price. The oxtails, rice, greens, and macaroni and cheese were around $36. The okra looked like it had been refried, and the chicken wings tasted as though they were cooked in old grease. The standout for me was the catfish: crispy, flavorful, and coated with a slightly heavier cornmeal crust than usual, which added a nice texture. We both went with the 2 | 2 combo...two meats and two sides...choosing fried chicken wings and catfish. For sides, we had yams, fries, Mac n cheese and my favorite...grits. The food tasted like something straight out of a family kitchen...comforting, hearty, and satisfying. Sunday dinner without cooking I enjoyed our meal here. We came on a Sunday evening and it wasn't crowded at all. Our waitress was so sweet and made sure to check on us while managing the front register as well. Shout out to her for working double and I loved her hair (lol side note). I am so angry right now. I ordered via UberEats and paid $1 extra for lemon pepper seasoning. There was no seasoning on the tenders which were also overcooked. The sweet potatoes that they rave about were absolutely nasty because somebody put a bunch of lemon in them. And the cornbread is stale! Once the food arrived, I poured everything on my Chicken&Waffles and took a bite and soaked it the flavor. I enjoyed the mix of savory spicy and sweet, but did feel like maybe I could have done a different sauce or an additional sauce even! I wonder what's the right combo? The waffles perhaps could've been more fluffy and warm and the tenders were just okay! We spent about $37 for myself and my husband, he got the 3 tenders and waffles with the Mac and Cheese side and both of us had a drink so I don't know? I think it might've been on the pricier side.
