We were told our pizza would take 15 minutes which turned out to be a 45 minute wait for ONE pizza, mind you we had families around us waiting longer than us. When we finally approached them about the pizza they said "sorry we thought we gave it to you, it will only take 20 minutes". We got our money back and left with no pizza. Enjoyed the most amazing vegan pizza at this really cool food truck. This truck was fabricated to include a French pastry oven to cook delicious thin crust pizza with the finest local ingredients. We tried the marinara veggie pizza and it had roasted mushrooms, red onions, peppers and tomatoes and was garnished with fresh radish stems(I think?), drizzled with olive oil it was absolutely delicious! Had an orange San Pellegrino as well. This truck will be in the lot next to the Marathon on HWY 12 in Beverly Shores, IN Wed-Sun. My husband has not stopped talking about this pizza since we stopped there on Sunday night. Thank goodness it was open as we were passing through and camping at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. What an awesome find. The concept is fun - who doesn't love a vintage Studebaker and when it's serving up the most awesome pizza pies ever - a combination that cannot be wrong. We ordered two pies, a margarita and a pepperoni. Pretty traditional, but that's what we like. We also ordered a tomato and fresh mozzarella salad, it said the tomatoes were fresh out of their garden, pine nuts and a honey basil dressing. OMG - we tried to share one and had to go back for another, my husband keeps asking me, can we make a dressing like that? We don't normally even like salads. So yes, you MUST go here - the crust on these pizzas is nothing like we've ever experienced and the ingredients were fresh and very flavorful. This may be the best pizza we have ever eaten. I'll start off by saying I do like the pizza at this place. They're always quick, they have a lot of interesting options and top notch dough. If you don't care about a snobby attitude, and have no dietary restrictions or foods you don't like then this place gets a thumbs up. My problem here is that they're completely unwilling to change anything in their recipes. I've been a vegetarian for 15 years and am very used to just having to deal with what's on the menu that doesn't have meat. I've gotten pizza from this place quite a few times though and the majority of their pies have meat on them, so sometimes you get a little tired of eating the same thing. I very politely have asked them a couple times if I could do a pizza sans meat and every time they have declined my request and directed me to the same veggie options that I've tried a million times. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard for them to just not put the sausage on something so that I could try the fun and exciting other options that they have. Sorry for the two stars y'all, but maybe you should be a little more flexible in the future. read more

A fantastic gem at the side of the road near Indiana Dunes' Mt. Baldy. Make sure you stop in for great pizza and some very interesting options. I had the Purple Pig: pulled pork, barbecue sauce, and red cabbage on a thin crust pizza. I took a chance on something a little more unusual than your traditional pizza toppings -- and it definitely paid off. I plowed right through that pizza. Fantastic! We were just exploring the area on our first trip to the Dunes when we passed this joint...a bright red truck with...is that a wood fired pizza oven? Oh my God, it is! Pull over, Pull over! Lots of options but wifey and I decided to split a pepperoni (the gold standard of pizza after-all). Fantastic. Crust had that cracker crisp crunch on the edges that only an uberhot oven can give. The sauce had a terrific zing to it, and you could literally taste the high quality olive oil, and fresh herbs and garlic. My sister lives in Chesterton, and we discovered this place when visiting her and driving around once. Dear god. Wow. It was amazing. The ingredients are super high quality and the service is top-notch. I love that they have classics as well as some creative options for the pizza. This place has that super crunchy delicious crust that is so hard to find. The sauce is delicious and not over-powering with just the right amount of toppings. We love this place so much. I wish I could bring it back to Dallas with me, since I have moved there now. This place is great! We discovered them about a year ago, and have eaten their pizzas too many times to count. The purple pig is of course awesome, but don't be shy in trying the potato-head or any of their specials, last year's shrimp succotash was awesome! If you are anywhere in the area(that includes you New Buffalo weekenders!) make sure to take the trip to try them out! They are so great, we decided to have them cater our wedding. We are having an outdoor casual barn wedding and thought food trucks would be a great idea. They have been amazing to work with, always get back to us and try to accommodate what we need/want. I would definitely recommend them for your next event, they are very reasonable as far as catering prices go as well. They are typically located at the address listed Thursday through Sunday, but they move around a lot with the festivals and farmers markets. How does someone use pita bread for pizza? Its mind boggling that you can grab a pita bread and toss pizza ingredients on it and call it pizza! Who does that? The ingredients dont have enough time to cook before the pita bread is burned. Waste of money, and im sure 90% profit for the business. Great concept, right? But that is no pizza! Waste of money. The Mr. Potato Head and Purple Pig were both really tasty and I would definitely recommend them both. The Margarita was pretty average, so I probably wouldn't order it again. This food truck is a great option if you are looking for a delicious lunch after a day at the beach, or if you just happen to be driving down Route 12. I'll be up-front and say this low rating is more for the service/attitude than the food. Some of their specialty pizzas are 4-star worthy; others about 3. But even though I wanted to love this pizza truck so badly--seeing how limited the food options near Beverly Shores are--I probably won't be buying from them again. The problem is the pretentious, foodie posturing of the staff. My family, who lives in Beverly Shores, has bought from them 20-25 times since they began operating, and the day I made this order from them, I was bringing in their pizza boxes to reuse with enough stamps to get a free pizza, so I'm sure the staff could tell we were loyal customers. I ordered pizzas for my family and then asked for my Purple Pig pizza without one particular topping that I just can't stand: cole slaw. Let me be clear: I've eaten cole slaw before--even their cole slaw topping--and I just don't like it. I could never enjoy a pizza that cole slaw on it, even if I picked it off, because the vinegar taste would remain. I love every other ingredient of the Purple Pig (BBQ sauce, BBQ pork, onions) except cole slaw. But the two staffers WOULD NOT let me buy this pizza without cole slaw. I asked in the most deferential and polite way possible, and then when that didn't work, I politely explained my reasons above. We talked about this for about 90 seconds (no one was behind me in line) and they didn't budge. I gave up and got a (cheaper, by the way) sausage pizza that was nothing special to the tastebuds. The last insult was watching as they took another customer's Purple Pig out of the oven and dumped the slaw on right at the end, demonstrating how easy it would have been to just leave it off for me. I can understand when restaurants don't want to make substitutions, since there could be additional costs involved for them. But refusing to make an easy subtraction like this one--which would save them money on ingredients and let me actually enjoy my stupid pizza--feels really self-righteous and obnoxious. It's great to be proud of the food you serve and this is, indeed, a creative dish. But some customers just plain don't enjoy some ingredients and never will. Who would really be harmed by just selling them the food they'd like to eat? I'm sure the staffers here would tell me I'm free to take my business elsewhere, which is what I plan to do. read more

Having spent the day with my family at the Indiana Dunes State Park, we decided to to hit our usual Mexican joint in Michigan City Indiana for some taco's before heading home. Enroute for dinner, we were passing the Beverly Shores train station, when a red wagon which I thought I saw had a wood burning oven caught my eye. A quick nod from my wife and I proceeded to safely turn back and investigate. Who would have thought that a wood-fired brick oven in a red 1949 Studebaker could be transformed into a gourmet pizza wagon. In that corner, I persume to be 2 W. Dunes Hwy, the operation consisted of the food wagon with its oven and a couple of umbrella covered picnic tables. After taliking with the friendly owner and chef Jim, we ordered several pizzas, My wife had the special potato pizza, my son the Mergherita, and I the italian sausage with jalapeno peppers. Our drinks consisted of a couple of craft bottles of rootbeer and some imported carbinated Italian lemonade. First off we were impressed that everything was made to order with fresh ingredients. we could see our pizzas which were indiviual size, made on flat bread, cook in the wood burning oven. A couple of minutes and the pizzas were ready. Jim brought our pies to us at the tables which had napkin dispensers. The pies cut for us by Jim were a wonderful surprise and finding. My wife and I shared our pizza's and were both consumed to mere crumbs. Our 5 year old son by the fact of nearly finishing his own pizza says it all..Delicious!. Not knowing when we might encounter the Rolling Stonebaker again, and because the food was so dam good, my wife and I just had to order and try their Blue cheese, steak and pepper pizza. Again that pizza did not disappoint. It was filling, coming across as comfort food but still light and delicate, Our son doesn't like blue cheese but he enjoyed the few pieces of steak that weren't too coated with cheese that we sacrificed to his enjoyment. In the end 4 clean plates were all that were left to reveal or enjoyment. I've heared of food vans being on the rise, being featured on the Food Network, but I myself have never ordered or eaten from one until today. I was not surprised to learn that the Roling Stonebaker was selected by The Food Network Magazine as the Best Pizza in Indiana. I only wish that The Rolling Stonebaker was closer to our home. I've gone to their web site and am happy to see they have a calendar which lists the location of where they will be on select days. This red wagon and its food trumps the Mexican joint with its four walls hands down and will now be our place for eating when we are next at the Indiana Dunes! read more

Yep--I have to agree. Pretty good pizza even by a Chicago pizza lovers standards. Had the Big 6 (cheese) pizza and the Shroom-and-Choke. Both were without tomato sauce, so I can't comment on that. My only turnoff -- bought it on the way home from New Buffalo and it did not travel as well as I had hoped. I will definitely eat there at the picnic tables next visit--which will be soon! read more
