We are locals. I have read other reviews. It is hard to know what 'to do' when you walk in (order at bar, take a seat or what). We asked the person at the bar and she quickly clued us in (order at bar and go grab a seat). We were there for breakfast on Labor Day weekend and it wasn't busy. They brought our food (which was awesome!) and never saw anyone again. Which was fine, because we just stopped in during a beach walk. I could see that if you brought guests, you would want table service- not sure if that is a thing or not. We just got up and left (paid - including tip) when we ordered prior to being seated. We ended up here during our walk on the beach, I loved that there was a restaurant out on the pier and then especially to have a rooftop. You order at the bar (no big deal, and wasn't hard to figure out) they brought our food to us. Service was great. Our table ordered one of the burgers, the fish tacos, and the chicken wings. Horrible experience. Didn't even have the opportunity to order because there's no way to know what you're actually supposed to do to get a drink. Sat at the bar for 10 minutes and was finally acknowledged by the bartender who said she would be back in just a moment and then another 7 minutes went by with zero sighting of her. Disappointing experience. For a rooftop venue, not having any outside heaters is unacceptable--especially when it's cold. The atmosphere could have been great, but instead everyone was uncomfortable and cutting their night short. If you're going to market an outdoor rooftop space, basic amenities like heaters shouldn't be optional. Won't be back unless this is fixed. read more

The Roof sounded like a great option to have a snack, some drinks, and enjoy awesome views of the beach and the water. We went on a Saturday afternoon snd when we saw how crowded it was; one of our group of 4 quickly got in the line at the window to order drinks & food. While I waited in line for 20 minut, the other members of our party sat down & waited for a server to approach. You could tell by the amount of customers around and the lack of visible staff that they were probably really short-handed. There were four of us in our party and we ordered a round of drinks and some nachos. Our server came back quickly with drinks, and handed my friend a drink that she thought was the Diet Coke she ordered. It turned out to be a Jack and Coke, because she took a sip. The server took it back and handed my friend the correct drink which was also on the tray. After delivering the rest of us our drinks we watched the server walk around and serve that same drink that my friend tasted to someone else. Oops! It took a little while but our nachos finally came out. The portion was really big and the tortilla chips were crunchy & toasted. They were kind of untraditional with a Queso blanco sauce instead of a cheddar and an avocado lime drizzle on top as well. We did like them and they also had black beans and pico de Gallo, and they were only $11.99. There was live music, tons of seating with cute high tops, fire pits, and picnic-style booths. The views were fabulous, but the service was definitely lacking. I would suggest coming for a drink and the ocean views....just order at the bar, so you see what drink you are actually getting and order as soon as you arrive or be prepared to wait a long time to get served. read more

Beautiful views and brews. A must to check out! Nice fire pit up there, it's absolutely gorgeous to view Daytona from up there if you are a tourist or a local! July 4th, 2025. Must leave a review. The GOOD: never been so close to fireworks launch and detonation in my life. Absolutely incredible, unobstructed view of every shell. Fantastic! The BAD: music was a prerecorded bass beat (bump-d-bump) at an EXTREMELY LOUD volume. My VIP table was as far away from the "band" as possible, yet we could not even talk to each other AT ALL. So loud! The "band" was just talk-singing to the bump-d-bump but we could neither hear or understand the words. Just bump-d-bump. Did I mention VERY LOUD?? Then time for the fireworks, the "band" took a break and a DJ(??) took over. Guess what she played? The exact same "music", extremely loud bump-d-bump. Actually, sounded exactly like the "band". I went over and offered her an extremely generous gratuity to turn it down some so we all could hear the booms occurring just yards away. She screamed (because she had to scream to be heard) "No". Finally, the VIP tables did not have any servers (only 100 VIP seats), a very limited food menu, and all paper plates and such. Plastic glasses too. Had to stand in a large line at the bar then stand in a separate long line to place a food order. FINAL THOUGHTS: I would not recommend the place called "The Roof", located on top of Joe's Crab Shack, Daytona beach pier. Lastly, there were maybe 100 VIP's and another 100 or so people in the standing room only. During the "band" no more than 10, TEN out of over 200 people, even tried to dance. During the fireworks display, no one, not one, person danced. My friends and family arrived at the required reservation time of 7:00, were assaulted by the "music" for 2 hours and 45 minutes, then when the fireworks began, we could only hear the very loudest of the mortars. I would definitely NOT recommend this venue. Dawn Westfall, you did it right. Just save your money, BYOB and snacks then set yourself up on the beach. "The Roof" VIP was definitely not worth the money. Not even close. read more

I've never left a review on yelp before but this place was so bad that I had to lol. The view and location were great, but that's about it. We only ate here because Joes Crab shack downstairs had a two and half hour wait. We got the "shrimp tacos" and it was literally just pre frozen fried shrimp thrown in some tortillas with nothing else. The rice that it was served with was plain white rice with dried cilantro sprinkled on top. We paid $17 for this. We talked to the manager and he advised us that there was a toppings station.. checked it out and there was some coleslaw, lettuce, shredded cheese, and the rest was just condiments. Didn't seem very cleanly either. The manager did give us two free drinks which we appreciated. Even though we got them 20 minutes later when the manager saw us walking out and said he didn't forget about us lol. Also, there are no servers here. You go up to the window/bar and you order and someone brings it out to you. We tried to get to go boxes and I stood at the bar for over 5 minutes and not a single worker asked if I needed anything. I tried to get the attention of a few of them but I seemed to be ignored. Finally got the attention of one of the workers to ask for to go boxes and he handed me two tiny boxes, that didn't even fit all of our food, and said "we have small ones". My wife was able to get full sized ones after talking to someone else. Just wait for Joes or go somewhere else. read more

We visited The Roof twice in less than a week but will never go back again after the experience we had. We thought it would be a great place withe great views and being co-located on top of Joe's we thought it would be on top of its game. Boy we we wrong. The only reason I am even giving this two stars is because the first visit wasn't too bad. The first time we visited (there were five of us) was on a Saturday night and the place was packed. Wall to wall people. We go up to order our food and while we were waiting to order one of the employees tells us "sorry we're closing" (they have Kim posted closing time but rather seem to close when they want). Luckily one of the bartenders chimed in and told that employee we had been in his line before the announcement of closing so he took our order. We had our food in about 15 minutes. It wasn't bad. So when we were hungry a few days later on a Wednesday, we decided to go again. This time as AWFUL. There were only about four groups of customers in the place. Much different than the previous time. We go and order our food (four of us ordered shrimp dishes, one of us ordered chicken tenders). Bill was about $115 after tip. So we paid and went to sit down. We were chatting and not paying attention, then we noticed a LOT of time had passed and we still did not have our food. A lady next to us kept getting up and going to complain (she didn't have hers either)... so we figured they were aware of the issue or maybe having trouble and we didn't not want to pile on. Plus we were hanging out and talking. 2.5 hours after we ordered and we still did not have our food, we'd had enough so one of us went up to the counter to ask. The girl said "Oh sorry, we're OUT OF SHRIMP. At no time did anyone try to tell us this or communicate the issue to us. They just let us sit there waiting, maybe hoping we'd just give up and leave and they could keep their money. So of course, we demanded a refund. Turns out almost nobody in there at the same time go their food either. I'm not sure who was running the place that night, but this is no way to treat customers. We will definitely NOT be back. read more

I think this place relies solely on it's location and views so service and quality is severely lacking. Service isn't even mediocre and drinks are okay. We went on a Thursday around 6:30 pm and saw signs that said they didn't have food service. We decided to stay for drinks anyways. We waited inside and were never greeted by anyone so we chose our own seat (which was difficult because MANY tables hadn't been cleaned). My partner went to the bar and ordered 2 cranberry and vodkas which took a total of 20 mins to actually get. They called last call at 7:30 pm so we left. I'm not sure if ever experienced such little interaction with staff at a bar or restaurant before. I'm sure they're short staffed like every where else but there wasn't many customers. read more

We only had a beer at the rooftop bar and then moved inside due to wind. We waited to get another inside (or to change the tv channel to a better game) but got no attention from any of the 6 waitresses walking by. If you're looking for sit down service this might not the place for you but if you're willing to wait in line to get food and have an amazing view it is worth it. I was a little hesitant about the line but decided to sit down and get a table first. I then went to the bar and asked the bartender if I was able to order my food there after ordering a drink and giving her a tip. She was very friendly and accommodating. I was able to put in my order and it came out in a decent time. The view is the main attraction. It is absolutely beautiful and is an amazing look into the Atlantic Ocean. I would definitely recommend as it is a unique experience that everyone should get to do. read more

When coming to drink (or eat) at The Roof it's all about location and ambiance. The Roof is located above (and is part of) Joe's Crab Shack at the end of the Daytona Beach pier. From here you can enjoy the ocean's wind, enjoy the view of the ocean or the beach, and just chill out. It's a great place to come and have a few drinks at sunset; or later or earlier... The food served here is a limited menu of what is served downstairs in Joe's Crab Shack. Pretty standard frozen seafood fare that Joe's is known for; tastes the same as the food you'd get in Atlanta from a Joe's Crab Shack. So food is not anything to brag about. Service from our server was great and the bartenders too great care of us too after we finished dinner and hung out for more drinks. read more

We stopped in to The Roof around 2pm on a Saturday, it was about half empty since this was during the off season. We sat at a table near the railing so we could soak up the amazing views. My husband and I each tried 2 mixed drinks, I believe they were about $7-8. Drinks were of average quality. I believe they did have a happy hour, but it was later in the day. I thought it was a little bit on the expensive side for the off season. The lady that took care of us was friendly and good about refills. Food took a while but was worth the wait. SUPER GOOD! I don't understand the bad reviews on this place but the food quality was great. We originally were planning on going to Joe's Crab Shack when we came to the door of The Roof and decided to check it out. Up a couple flights of stairs (or elevator if needed) and we stumbled upon a full bar seating area with a rooftop with dining and full bar service. Did I mention the amazing views overlooking the pier, boardwalk, and ocean?! A few drizzles here and there (like always when in Florida) but the food was great! I'd recommend the Mahi Fish Tacos and prices were decent for drinks and food. Umbrellas available. Friendly wait staff, and free live bands on Thursday-Saturday with fireworks off the pier on Saturday!! read more

Catastrophe! Headed to Joe's, we were like "let's eat on the roof!". What a mistake to make! We had a toddler with us, so we look the elevator- it stunk horribly. We then arrived in the Roof's interior bar, it also smelled bad- there was a raw bar there, but the smell, I believe, was unrelated. We selected a 4-top and were seated. Not enough menus in the bucket and the menus that were present contained conflicting prices and products. Bird dung on our table- very unappetizing. I grabbed a menu from a different table and that menu had bird dung smattered on it. At this point I noticed the bird crap on the deck, other tables, the bar surface- it was everywhere. We ordered drinks. The signature drinks came in 12-oz. see-through plastic cups overflowing with ice. I could have drank my $9 margarita in a single gulp, it tasted good but was not worth the money. Had raw oysters and we enjoyed them! The highlight of our visit to the Roof. One of us ordered a burger, nobody asked how it should be done. It came out cooked past well-done which was highly unsatisfactory. I ordered the Mahi tacos, barely any mahi, truly disappointing. Shrimp tacos were much better. The chips that came with our meals were over salted to the point of inedibility. At one point we took our toddler to check out the dolphin swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. As we did this the pigeons, sand pipers, and other flying vermin got onto our table and snatched some of our leftovers. Our servers were pleasant and friendly. If I were 21, on spring break, and it was BYOB, I could see patronizing this establishment as a tavern with a great view. Nevertheless, NOT RECOMMENDED! read more

Joe's Crabshack may not be my style, but this one has the best top deck open air bar with it's own wonderful food, drink and great bartenders. My experience started off questionable when I and others who wandered out on the deck didn't even see a server. However, Sara the bartender quickly covered for her co-worker's inattention by providing drinks and food with an endearing smile and great attitude (I witnessed Chris, the other bartender, doing the same). The menu was short and well balanced. After enjoying a beer, bite of food (peeled shrimp) and a boat drink I enjoyed a sunset and good conversation around their welcoming fire-pit. I rate in comparison to other bars in the same class, and would have given this place a 5 star if it weren't for the table server absence. Live music by Savi was AMAZING. The oysters are unbelievably over priced, and some of them were inedible. $30 for 12 oysters is crazy expensive to begin with. They were very small and overall disappointing. Do not get excited that they're on the menu, go somewhere else. The servers (food runners) can be rude if you ask for more than your food to be dropped off. They shouldn't be tipped as servers since they don't work as hard as real severs. read more
