Visited The Rooftop this past weekend and had a fantastic time. We had made a reservation to celebrate my daughter going away to college. It was just here and I. We were greeted by the hostess who took us to our seats. (We sat inside because it had been on and off sprinkling). Our server, Mia, was AMAZING. Sweet, professional, attentive, always had a smile and exactly what you would wish to have as your wait staff. My daughter is 18, so she got the Cos-No-Politan haha. Love the pun and she loved the drink. I got a classic margarita which was made very well. We decided on apps to share. We got the meatballs, arancini, truffle fries and calamari. The meatballs were ok, but we felt they were under seasoned and a little on the dry side, even with all the sauce. The Arancini was delicious. The truffle fries were good (we really enjoyed the garlic aoli) and they came in a cute fry box on a plate. The calamari was fantastic. It also came with fried jalapenos mixed in. I did not see note of that on the menu, so for any allergies I would note that. However, that little spice mixed with the honey they had made for a great bite and we would order this again. Afterwards, we walked down to the Sam Adams beer garden where there were fire pits, music (a live band) and a great time to be had. As someone who enjoys rooftop bars and a well-made martini, I came in with high expectations. I even looked over the menu beforehand and planned to order the "Dirty but Classy" martini. The experience started off great. The hostess downstairs was welcoming, friendly, and gave clear directions to the rooftop--10/10. After taking the elevator up, we were greeted by another equally warm and professional host. Another 10/10. Unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended. We sat at the bar, and the bartender spent most of his time with his back to the guests. We waited... and waited... and waited before finally having to get his attention ourselves. That's never a good sign. I ordered the "Dirty but Classy" martini and was told they didn't have the ingredients--but they could still make it. What does that even mean? Either you have the ingredients or you don't. After a confusing back-and-forth, it became clear they couldn't make it at all, so I settled for a standard dirty martini. It was terrible. No olive oil-infused vodka. No prosciutto & Gorgonzola stuffed olives. Poorly balanced and badly mixed. If you're someone who actually enjoys martinis, you know immediately when the person behind the bar has no idea how to make one. This bartender may be handsome, but the lights were on and nobody was home. He lacked both the personality and the skill to be working behind a cocktail bar. We also ordered the wagyu dumplings. Calling the filling "wagyu" felt generous--it tasted like ordinary ground beef. Any flavor the meat might have had was completely buried under an overly sweet sauce. The wagyu certainly wasn't the star of the dish. Overall, I left more annoyed than impressed. The hosts were fantastic, but the bar experience completely overshadowed the evening. I'll probably give the place another chance because first impressions aren't always the whole story--but I'll absolutely make sure I'm sitting with a different bartender next time. read more

Stopped by a couple of weeks ago and lucked out by grabbing two of the last seats at the bar right under the TVs while the World Cup was on. The crowd was into the game, which made for a fun atmosphere, and the bartender was attentive and made a killer dirty martini. For food, we had a half dozen oysters, the calamari with a sweet Thai chili sauce, and the pan-fried chicken dumplings. Everything was fresh and really good. The weather was perfect so they had the giant garage doors / windows open, which made the whole place feel even more lively. Definitely a great spot to grab drinks and appetizers. Went to this spot after my cousin's graduation and loved the rooftop vibe! They have outside seating with fire pits, which is perfect for hanging out, and inside the bar there are games on TVs to keep things lively. The food was a mix -- the churro dessert with dipping sauces was amazing, and the sweet & spicy calamari and seabass with fried rice were decent but could have used a bit more flavor. On the other hand, the tacos and fried chicken nuggets were so good -- I wasn't expecting such big portions for starters, but they definitely exceeded expectations Overall, it's a pretty spot with a fun vibe. Parking can be tricky sometimes, but they have a nearby floor you can walk from or valet. Would definitely come back for the rooftop and the standout appetizers! Another great experience at the Artisan Rooftop. The vibes here, especially on a wonderful day outside are immaculate. Although I've been here multiple times, this is my first time here during spring/summer weather. This is a great spot to grab drinks and enjoy the vibes during fantastic outdoor weather. We tried the lobster fried rice, classic truffle fries, pierogies, and fish tacos. It seems like they really reduced the size of the truffle fries, which is a tad unfortunate. read more

Celebrated a milestone birthday with a beautiful view overlooking Tuscan Village however the service was awful with a waitress that seemed to hate her job and EVERYTHING we ordered was SALTY as if the chef had mistaken the salt for garlic powder. Definitely will NOT go back, save your money and get better non salty apps or salty waitresses with 10000% better service and drinks across the street at The Tavern. read more

i went with my friend and we were seated outside. it took a while for us to be served but we got the calamari, i got the shrimp tacos, and my friend got the burger. the calamari was good, but the shrimp tacos was way too salty for me. the service for the rest of the meal did take a while as well. it was very sunny out and there was a nice view. read more

We had reservations at the marketplace so we stopped in for a pre dinner drink and some oysters at the rooftop. It's a beautiful space, the furniture and vibe is totally amazing. We grabbed seats at the bar on the outside portion. The bartender was very nice, and the drinks came out ok. The issue was the oysters. They were shucked but the oysters were not loosened from the shell and there were no oyster forks to use. We had giant dinner forks which is ridiculous. I think when you charge $24 for 6 oysters they should be properly prepared. Additionally, the mignonette and cocktail sauce had no small spoons. We had to again use our dinner forks to try to get vinegar onto an oyster! Messy and ridiculous in such a posh looking place. Overall we were glad we hadn't planned to have dinner there because it seems like smoke and mirrors and not an actual high end place. We might come back for a drink only but would not plan to eat there. read more

I expected more. Located on the 5th floor of The Artisan Hotel, use the elevator located in the lobby on the right, as the two next to them are for hotel guests. Great signage leading up to the rooftop. The hostess was excellent, very welcoming and kind. We chose to sit at the bar and I think that was a mistake. It took the two male bartenders around 10 minutes to even acknowledge us as they were both talking to a manager-like person on the other side of the bar and the female bartender was actually busy making drinks. I will say the female bartender was very attentive, I can't say the same for the other two during our time there. The drinks themselves were lackluster, we were planning on ordering some apps but the bartender never asked, nor did not come back to check on us at all. The female bartender came around and asked if we needed anything when we were looking for the check. I'm not sure we will be return. Very disappointed for such a swanky place. read more

This was a lovely restaurant. Went here for an early birthday dinner. Honestly, the snacks were sufficient and filling. After two rounds of shrimp cocktails, (real) truffle fries and a generous pour of sangria, I was spent! The shrimp - colossal (see pics)!! They treated me to a delicious blueberry bourbon and mascarpone cheesecake and a Prosecco toast! Wow! We had a lovely waitress who made everything perfect with her knowledge of the menu, advice on things to try! I bet the summer on the rooftop is priceless. read more

Took my mom to The Rooftop at Artisan for her birthday brunch, and it was a great experience! The food was outstanding--the lamb chops were phenomenal, and the truffle fries are easily some of the best around. We also loved the lobster Benedict and French toast, paired perfectly with mimosas. Stopped by this rooftop bar recently. Honestly, the main draw is definitely the view...it's a great spot to catch the sunset and just hang out above the Village. The rooftop setup itself is really nice, with plenty of seating and a cool vibe. That said, the service left a lot to be desired. It took a little while to get a server's attention, and even after ordering, drinks came out slowly and out of order. It wasn't crazy busy, so it felt more like a lack of coordination than anything else. Still, if you're going for the rooftop experience and don't mind being a little patient, it's worth a visit. read more

First, the service was great. Staff was friendly, happy, and pleasent. The atmosphere was great. The views, the music, it is a great place to spend an evening. The food. Sub par. I ordered the lobster stir fried rice. It was salty, all you could taste was salt and lobster. The Calimari was good, but the sauce they used to put on top of it soaked the bottom third of the serving and it was too sweet. Maybe not mix it in and serve it on the side? The fish was good, cook well and tasty, but the bed of rice it was served on again was salty and added no flavor to the dish. Hire a cheff. A real one. It is the only thing holding this place back from being outstanding. Or stop pretending it is anything but a bar and stick to bar food. Wings, burgers, fries, things that are hard to mess up. It would not have bothered me were it not for the price of the food. Also stop trying to reinvent drinks unless you have a good mixologist or taste test it before you put it on the menue. Expresso Martini - great. Expresso martini reinvented with marshmellows, chocolet syurp and lemon bar? - not good. Lemon bar with chocolet? Lemon bar with expresso? It tasted like a mess, looked like a mess, but had a cool name. Great place, great atmosphere, great staff - sub par food and drinks that have a reason no one else is serving them. Would not take much to turn it into a 5 star experience. A cheff, a mixologist, and taste testing before you put it on a menu. read more

Located on the top level of The Artisan Hotel, The Roof Top at The Artisan, owned by Tuscan Brands, is a modern hotel rooftop bar offering a variety of cocktails, draft & craft beers and wine and a selection of small plates, snacks, and shareables. There is seating around the bar including an open air side, soft chairs, round tables & booths and outside patio deck seating with high tops, soft chairs and open fire pits. I stopped by The Roof Top on the 5th floor for some small bites on a Saturday afternoon after shopping nearby. The place moderately busy and not crowded. I took a seat up at the bar and given menus by a bartender. I stuck with food on this visit and got an ice water. I put in an order for Stuffed Dates ($10 plus tax), Fried Green Tomatoes ($12 plus tax), and Stuffed Peppers ($18 plus tax). The Stuffed Dates came out in 5 minutes, which were comprised of 5 small dates stuffed with gorgonzola and wrapped with thin crispy prosciutto and aged balsamic drizzle. The warm stuffed dates were quite good. The Fried Green Tomatoes and Stuffed Peppers arrived 25 minutes afterwards. The 3 Fried Green Tomatoes had a thick crisp breading over basil lime crema, pepita, paprika oil. However, the green tomato slices inside were not thick. The Stuffed Red Pepper was a good sized with saffron risotto,  ground sausage, in a sweet red pepper & lots of arrabbiata sauce, a very good choice. While I was eating and watching the Celtics game, I saw the customers next to me enjoying other selections such as the Meatballs, Pork Empanadas, Beef Sliders and Calamari, which I would try on the next visit. After I was finished, it took a while for the bartender to return to take my payment and Tuscan loyalty card. My bartender was flat out busy making drinks for the servers as the place was getting busier. The check total was $43.40 with tax and before tip. Overall, good eats in a modern urban bar atmosphere. I took a look outside from the patio area, which was a good view of all the development going on around Tuscan Village and Salem. This very busy area of Salem is fast becoming another Burlington (MA) with similar regional & national chain restaurants already opened and under construction nearby. read more

The food is always amazing! We are locals in Tuscan Village and have been multiple times. Almost every time we go we have an okay experience. Ambiance is amazing. The service is pretty slow, they have forgotten to put our order in a few different times and don't check on our table as often as other restaurants do. We keep coming back because we genuinely do love the food and drinks, and we're always hopeful for a better experience than the last. Once they make a few tweaks to their service this place will be top notch. We have all the faith that management can figure it out! read more

She took our taste and interests into account to help customize our drinks and brought us an AMAZING blueberry cheesecake. For a brand new spot the Rooftop has hit the mark. Cool vibe with a view of the surroundings. The sides open up to let you enjoy the open air and if you like there are outside tables and fire pits to enjoy the cooler nights. The bartenders Rania and Eddie served top notch cocktails. Horrible. It's a nice venue if you can get outside( however, although the outdoor seating was empty they were all reserved. We waited 15 min for someone to take our drink order inside which we were the only ones in the inside. We finally moved to the bar thinking we'd get faster service. The bar had about 3 other people. We waited ANOTHER 15 min for a bartender of which there were two, to even look at us. I recognized a bartender from a previous time being there and told him how we had a good experience with him. Well, that must have changed his attitude to sub par. When we said we wanted to order food he continued to clean glasses and fill olives and never looked up at us. He said he could hear so to just tell him and he'd remember. No customer service whatsoever. When 3 of the 4 of us decided to finally get something to eat - meatballs came out for one of the persons. While two others were still waiting. The next order which was a burger came out 20 min later. The 3rd and final order for which was lobster rice came out another 10 min. None of my friends got their food simultaneously. Mind you - it was not crowded at all. The first two waited for the 3rd to eat so their food was getting cold. Then, as our glasses and dishes sat empty we had to finally flag down the other bartender for a refill and to clear the dishes. Then they put the handheld device in your face while watching you fill out a tip which defaults to a min of 20% tip unless you do a custom tip. They deserved zero but we felt badly for the bar backs. We are all professionals - we were dressed nicely, not that that matters, but the overall experience was horrific. I have been there 3x. The first was a Friday night which basically turns into a rave party. I thought it would be classy and cater more to the people who stay at the hotel. I was wrong! Second time we went at 2:00 pm on a Saturday and that was a good exp - brunch. But this final one is forever final. It's a one star at best. All four of us grew up in the Merrimack valley so sadly, we will share this experience with many. read more

Brought a friend from FL over here and it was my first time as well we sat outside. Waited fifteen twenty minutes and multiple waitresses walked past our table and didn't even acknowledge us. We had a reservation at 6:45 and got sat right away, but we got sat right next to a speaker blaring 90's music because it was "ladies night". My boyfriend and I went for a quiet time out and was hoping to have conversation over dinner but couldn't hear each other talk. The waitress no joke, walked by our table several times and didn't acknowledge us, no one did. When we finally caught someone's attention, we ordered drinks which took another 10 mins. Service was below average and the only reason I'm giving this a 2 star instead of a one is because the food was good. I had the chicken parm arancini and my boyfriend had the nachos and we finished it all. We were quick to ask for the bill and escape out of there before our headaches from the music got any worse. Some tips: seat people, immediately offer water, follow up within a few minutes for drink orders: I don't know how things work on the 5th floor of the Artisan but this is how the world works here on planet Earth 5 floors below folks. Would not recommend. Had our daughters surprise birthday dinner/ engagement party here. After meeting with manager, reserved the room and paid deposit, were contacted a week later saying room was double booked. They gave us a different room. Told us we had to be out no later than 9:30 pm which was not an issue on our part. Unfortunately we didn't even get our meals that we picked a month before the dinner until 9:20 pm. Hard to be out by 9:30 when you do not eat until 9:30. Food was not impressive either. All in all a huge disappointment and very stressful evening. This was back in March. Irritating, all around. Made reservation to sit on the roof for a bday dinner. Arrived and was told we could sit inside or at a fire pit, but all outdoor roof tables were full at this time. Waited for table, and waited for service all night. Food runners basically dumped plates on our table almost at random. We (and 2 tables next to us) begged for drink refills. Food was fine. Definitely not worth the prices they were asking. But the vibe/atmosphere was good. read more

This past weekend I tried the Rooftop with some friends. We had come with a fairly large group right at the dinner rush and got lucky with some seats at the bar - we were just looking for drinks anyways. That being said, we were so lucky to have Michael as our bartender. He went out of his way to craft up cocktails all night for us, even with a full bar. Seriously, the drink creations he came up with was beyond impressive. We had the best time, the ambiance is so fun, and drinks are fantastic. I cant speak to the food much as we only ordered some truffle fries but O.M.G. I will return for those alone. Truly the best I've ever had. The only thing you could argue is a drawback are the drink prices, but if you're someone who values a well crafted cocktail and trendy/fun atmosphere I find it to be more than worth it. We will be returning and are looking forward to having this be a new place to frequent. read more

my boyfriend got FOOD POISONING from the $17 omelette during brunch (that we decided we would splurge on, we normally don't eat out to fancy places). the wait for our drinks and food, with maybe 5 other tables at the restaurant, was incredibly long for only the two of us. we waited at least 10 minutes for drinks and 20 minutes for our food (literally only french toast and the omelette). food was mid. when my boyfriend started throwing up and complained of his stomach hurting very badly, i called the restaurant and the woman i spoke with took his name and # for the manager to call and speak with. the manager never called. needless to say, we will not be going back and have been telling everybody what an unprofessional and unpleasant experience we had at the rooftop. read more
