My husband and I stopped in Little Rock for a night and checked out this spot the next morning because of all the reviews. Luckily we got there just a little after they opened (there was a line out the door when we left). This is a great place for good food that doesn't make you feel sluggish after. We got the cardamom and vanilla bean cold brew, we highly recommend it, one of the best cold brews that we've had. They also have freshly squeezed juice. I had a beautiful lunch there. At first I was bit confused about how to order, but another customer explained to me how things worked. My 3-year-old and I found a table while my husband stood in line to order. We were there at 12:30 on a Friday and the line was pretty long. Service was great. They kept checking in on us which was nice. I had the ginger lemonade which I loved - it was just the right combo of sweet and spice. I had the Jamn Skippy burger and it was amazing. The flavors were all so perfect together. My daughter and husband split the tofu bahn mi and it was amazing as well. So my first visit to The Root Cafe was a pleasurable one. We had hit some estate sales in Little Rock and thought it would be a nice spot for a good lunch. Parking is very limited so be prepared to drive around looking for a spot. Line was out the door almost which is always a good sign. I ordered the special which was the pimento cheese burger with egg plant fries. Burger was cooked well and the pimento was very good. You can tell it's made in house. Amazing food here at this Diners Drive-ins and Drives farm-to-table restaurant in a leafy neighborhood in Little Rock. Dog and people friendly, open for outdoor seating, stop here for delicious comfort food with a unique twist of delicious spices. Guy Fieri had the pimento cheese burger, made with fresh beef and homemade pimiento cheese. It was DELICIOUS - cheese was not overly spices but had a great balanced and luxurious flavor. The Spicy Hot chicken is also delicious, and not painful. The spice level is perfect as are the perfect plump and juicy chicken thighs. Seasonal greens are cut into huge chunks and cooked in a delicious broth. Purple hull peas come spiked with chow chow and subtly flavored with warm Indian spices. The cornbread is very dense and sweet, stuffed with texture and bursting with flavor. It's the best cornbread I have had in a long time. There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options available, and I think also gluten-free offerings. So impressed with this spot. Came here while passing through town and looking for a vegetarian friendly lunch. This place was above and beyond what we hoped for, so much so that we came back through town just to have it a second time. We got the spicy banh mi, curry chicken salad sandwich, sweet potato fries and cold brew. Everything was incredible. Outside of the food, the vibe was great and the staff were even greater. Excellent hospitality and the perfect outdoor dining space. I had the curried chicken salad sandwich which I subbed the bun for wheat bread. My friend ordered the sandwich how it came and the bun was huge, way too much bread. But the filling itself was delicious. The turnip bisque was definitely interesting but it was good. Lavender lemonade was also yummy. Great easy-going breakfast spot! With COVID we did outdoor seating. They place "sanitized" signs on the tables that have been cleaned. Our food came out fairly quickly. I ordered the sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich and it was delicious. The sausage has great flavor and you could tell was fresh. The default is cheddar cheese and an over easy egg. My partner ordered the biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was awesome, gravy was a bit runny but still good. All good comes in takeaway containers so it would be pretty easy to eat there and takeaway your leftovers. The Root is serving up delicious fare, made with local ingredients, for a very small price tag. My husband and I both ordered biscuits and gravy with eggs and split a single pancake. I'm not always a fan of biscuits and gravy, but I saw that theirs were made with local sausage and looked fabulous, so I ordered them. Lucky for me, they WERE fabulous! The farm fresh eggs that were served alongside were really good sunnyside up, but overcooked and rubbery when scrambled. I saw the pancakes coming out of the kitchen, and in an impulse buy, I ordered one. I'm a pancake snob, and to me, these were just okay, but the real maple syrup was fantastic. The Root Cafe is a casual local establishment that feels warm and inviting. I could not recommend it more if you are in the area. I should have passed on this place for lunch. It's a hippy trendy restaurant and while that's fine, what they do inside is not. This has inside seating and I expected a sit down restaurant like anywhere else. Order at the front and of course it prompts you for a tip. (20%) unless you change it. I paid a tip and then was told to get my own drink and to sit anywhere. My food was wrong and not a single time did any of the workers come ask me if I needed anything or refill a drink. Waste of a tip and to top it off they have a basket for trash and plates and expect you to bus your own table. Terrible experience and I want my tip back. We choose this place to meet with my brother and his family when we came through Little Rock. I was pretty excited, since I am a vegetarian and I love the concept. Plus, it's all outdoor seating, which is perfect for Covid. Unfortunately, I was pretty let down overall by the experience. It's a order at the counter (or online) situation, but there is no easy access to utensils, napkins, salt or any other basics. You had to go to the crowded counter to get anything you needed, which was really inconvenient. If you're not doing table service (which we got gratted for??) you should have that stuff available. We placed an online order around 10:20, it said it would be ready around 10:45, but we didn't get it until around 11:15 and it was already cold. I suspect someone forgot about it in the back. There were mixed reviews for the food at the table. They gave one of my nieces the wrong order, but they did fix it. My SIL liked her food, but my husband and I both felt ours was under seasoned, and there was zero access to any salt !! If I wasn't so hungry, I would have said something about it being cold and bland, but I wasn't willing to wait another 45 minutes for new food or some salt. The drinks were also sub par. The staff seemed nice (and cute and quirky as could be) but the service was almost non existent. Great concept and menu but execution needs work. read more

Really, Really, Really great spot! We happened to catch it on a bluebird day which made it even better. Grab some of the spiced Cajun pecans on the way in folks......righteously delicious. Outstanding food is the pinnacle. 50/50 fries to perfection pairs perfectly with the Chapman's Cousin burger. I'm sayin, not just sayin', eat that burger and you'll not be in want.
