I've had the catfish, the ribeye & breakfast. All terrific. Service delivered with a Southern accent & a smile. It was fun to listen to the old timers commune. Coffee was fresh , hot & plentiful. Rose garden is our favorite place to eat, but lately there has been a problem with the specials being warm enough. On occasion we have asked for them to be reheated but they still don't get warm enough. We really don't like to complain. Everyone is so nice. This family owned diner was a great place to stop for breakfast! I ordered 2 eggs, bacon, toast & hash browns and it was delicious! Eggs were fresh. My dad had a veggie omelet and it was a generous serving, golden and also very good. My moms 2 egg, bacon, and biscuits gravy was only $4 bucks! The service was very friendly. My hubby and I are new to the area and this was the first restaurant we checked out. I was a little skeptical at first with it being right behind a gas station, but boy am I glad we gave it a try. We have been here twice now and tried different things. Their meat and three is a great choice and also really enjoyed their cheeseburger and BLT. Home cooking? More like nursing home cooking. Food had no taste because it was clearly straight from the freezer or a box, not fresh. Even the cole slaw was scary. The only good item we had was the coconut cream pie and the service was good, but that can't make up for plastic tasting fried chicken, synthetic fries, boxed rice and beans, salty sausage, greasy fried green tomatoes and outdated okra. Very laid back place. Food was very good. I had the country fried steak special. It could have had a little more flavor but I wasn't dissapointed. Prices are moderate, portions are big. The cornbread was light and fluffy with a hard shell. Excellent. Dont go if your in a rush though. The server was also running the register so you had to wait for her to take orders and deliver them to the kitchen and get drinks, etc for tables before she gets back to the register to cash you out. This is the second time I've eaten there in the past couple weeks. I wanted to give it a second chance. I'm thinking this food is maybe not "homemade". Prices are cheap but you get what you pay for. But personally what really bothered me the most was the horrible condition of the mens bathroom. Graffiti on the walls, the cloth towel roll was at the end (no telling how many people used it to dry their hands) and there was what I think was a multi assortment of condoms in a pay dispenser hanging on the wall. Who really needs to buy condoms in a restaurant? Maybe this review will encourage the managers to at least keep up with the bathroom. I had a meat and three plate - the pork roast was tender and absolutely yummy. But make sure you save room for dessert - they serve homemade pie that is absolutely mouth-watering!! Stopped here on a cross-country trip to Virginia because it was right off I-40 and next to a gas station. Didn't expect much and was quite surprised by how good and affordable it was. I was feeling ill and didn't have much of an appetite but worked one up after looking at the creamed corn on my boyfriends plate. I got a portion of that to go and it was delicious along with everything else we ordered -- pancakes, mashed potatoes, country fried steak, beans and sausage. The restrooms were a little untidy but the excellent service and great food more than made up for it. The staff seems to make food from scratch and a sign asks customers to be patient, so maybe one to skip if you're in a big rush. After eating a bunch of crappy food from truck stops/chain restaurants, this was easily the best meal we had on the trip. read more
