Table of 4 reserved for our family on NYE, months prior. NYE day we receive a call saying they undercharged us $20 per person (it is a fixed rate for NYE). My wife, rightfully so, made light of the situation and told them she found it odd they called us day of dinner. They begrudgingly said they would waive the extra "holiday" rate. I quipped to family that we would be placed at the worst table in the place. We get there and sure enough we get placed in the bar next to the bathroom (there were two tables there, outside the actual dining room). We asked to be moved into the dining room and unfortunately there were no available tables although some were visible and went unused. The other table in the bar ended up causing a fuss, left without eating and wasn't charged. We were not going to ruin our NYE. Food was fairly good but I'm still waiting for my wine to arrive that I ordered. The Manager was making rounds talking to folks but gave me the impression he was not a problem solver and I suspect was the reason we received a phone call when they realized the billing issue. To me this was bush league stuff that should happen at an Olive Garden. Long story long, if you reserve a table make sure you confirm it in the dining room and not in the bar/bathroom area. read more

One of my favorite places to eat in the world! Love the decor and the history of the place. I've been very fortunate enough to try all the items in the menu and every dish is truly delicious. The staff is also nice and professional. I did not think I would be eating lunch with my mom and my friends five days in a row but each time was a blast! Just had lunch here on the deck with my family and I was so pleased with everything! I have been to the roundhouse many many times during both winter and summer seasons over the past few years and I have to say that so far this has been the best summer experience for me. Sun Valley is special, and the Roundhouse is one of the traditions. Due to an injury I wasn't able to ski this year, but I'll tell ya the Gondola made it possible to get my view on! I loved the ride (But not the price! Holy cow it's expensive) then happily enjoyed the view before going into the roundhouse for lunch. THE FOOD: They have an interesting mix of food. Right now, it seems everyone in Sun Valley needs to do a Kale Quinoa salad. And they of course had this. I had that on the side of my club sandwich. My husband ate an Elk burger and fries which he enjoyed! THE DRINKS: Pomegranate Mimosa...um.. yes please. But if you are a Margarita fan, this was truly one of the best we had ever tried. WOW! I was almost bummed to have my mimosa, ALMOST... both were great. TIPS: Make a reservation or be prepared to wait. Also, if the smell of Fondu, also on the menu, then this is not your place. You can't beat the setting - high up on the mountain after a pleasant gondola ride. We waited about 40 minutes for a table for 2. The restaurant was at least half empty; the maitre'd told us they can only seat so many based on the small size of the kitchen, that can't keep up with more guests. But it's a nice place to wait; walking around the building gives a whole range of spectacular views. The menu was diverse but just a little limited; the food was well-prepared and tasty. We were VERY disappointed by the service. It was slower than it should have been. Our waitress disappeared for long periods. I had to request three times to get a refill on my coke. Food here is great. Service is ok. Dont bother showing up if you dont have a reservation...especially if you have a large group. You will find that you will fend for yourself by hovering over guests wrapping up their meals so that someone else doesnt steal your table. Be warned. This restaurant on top of the mountain is super cute and cozy. The service is wonderful and friendly, offering us hot chocolate when we entered the door from the cold. I had the elk and it was great, very large portions at this restaurant. The cheese fondue was also good, but didn't come with much besides bread for dipping. My only complaints with this place are the expensive ticket for the gondola ($20 just to walk on the damn thing, but you get $10 off the price of your lunch) and though I love the accordion guy who plays in the corner, I wish he would stay there and not come over to the table. read more

I was there on Friday for lunch with 5 others. While the place had a beautiful view, I must say that the service was very slow for a business that only has one seating for lunch. They really needed a manager on site who was really on top of things to take up the slack. I had a Salmon BLT sandwich that didn't have Lettuce (spinach instead) or Tomato (was simply missing). They need to rename the sandwich. Maybe it was a bad day for them but it was my only trip to that restaurant. If the service was excellent and the menu was what it promised, then I'd recommend to others freely. But since it wasn't, I'd say only go up there for the view and the experience. I will try it again next year during ski season and hope that they improve. read more

This place never disappoints. The summer menu, while small and simple, included enough hearty options to completely satisfy. And this was after the 5 mile hike from River Run Lodge to the summit!! One Steigl Radler (SO refreshing), iced tea, turkey-brie sandwich and pasta salad later, I'm a happy girl. On top of the great summery fare, the staff are personable and courteous. It's worth noting that it's not a full service place - in the summer (aka off season), you order at the front counter and take a number and your drinks, seat yourself, and the food comes out shortly. In spite of the simplified service, the staff still takes their service role seriously to make it a comfortable visit. There's a reason I always come back here, and it's not just for the views. :) read more

Beautiful ride up the lift for dinner. I had the best gnocchi, highly recommend it! The wait staff was very pleasant and did a great job clearing plates in a timely fashion. The food here is all around incredible, the menu is small but everything is very well done. My family and I loved the fondue that was brought out for dessert. Not to mention that the restaurant itself was rustic and has a beautiful large fireplace in the center of the dining room. The noise level and space between tables was good too. It was fun to experience such an historical place in Sun Valley! We stayed super late and the manager Michael was so kind to us! You can tell how hard the kitchen and stuff works here to make everything great. Next time you're in Ketchum you have to come eat here! read more

This review is more so for the management of Sun Valley and Roundhouse so they can see how horrible they are making Roundhouse in the summers. 1) We show up without a reservation and ask for a table for 3. We're told its going to be a 15 minute minute wait for a table without shade on the deck, or 30-45 minutes for a table with shade. That's fine...not a big deal...except that when we get seated out on the patio there are virtually 20 tables, and only 4 of them have people seated at them. What a joke. Maybe they're trying to give the perception that the place is exclusive, etc by having us wait for no good reason at all. 2) It is really hot on that deck during the summertime, which is fine. But my problem with this place is that there were at least 8 tables under the shade that were completely empty for the duration of our lunch...and you're going to tell us that its going to be a 30 minute wait? F-off. The table immediately behind us was in the shade and had dirty plates that went un-bussed for the duration of our lunch. Seriously...you can't buss 2 plates and sit people on a table that isn't going to burn their arms? 3) Oh, and by the way, if you're going to have metal tables on the deck under the scalding sun in SUN VALLEY, maybe you should put some table cloths out so that A) you don't attract a bunch of hobos (ie, make a little effort if you're going to charge $100 prices for a lunch), but B) so that people don't get second degree burns. The bottom line with this place is that the food is actually good if it ever makes it to your table in a reasonable amount of time. It should be...they have CIA trained Chefs running the show. But more importantly, the whole EXPERIENCE is just so horrible and frustrating from a service standpoint. The service is slow, the seating management is poor, and its impossible to find people to help you. Obviously whomever is running this place needs to go back to hospitality management school. Doesn't seem like rocket science to me...keep the tables bussed, seat people if you've got the tables available, and take their orders. The ridiculous charade of whatever this place is doing is just so off-putting. Mr. Holding would make heads roll if he witnessed this. This unfortunately is not an isolated event. I go here once a year because I think somehow it will be a different experience...but it isn't. Its a royally frustrating experience every time, which is why I took the time out of my day to write this. I will be calling Sun Valley food and beverage management as well...that's how disappointing this experience was. read more

Very nice little restaurant high up on bald mountain - amazing views and very pleasant, especially in the summer. It is a casual area and a necessary stop if hiking or biking on bald mountain. The ambiance is nice - you can eat while surrounded by beautiful Idaho mountains. The menu is somewhat limited, with sandwiches as the main lunch option, but the portions are good and the food is okay - although nothing particularly special. My favorites were the mezze platter and the salmon from the kids menu. I can't really imagine what this place would be like in the winter, but judging from the inside I can imagine that it would feel very cozy and homey. Overall, the food in this restaurant is nothing amazing, but the ambience and the views are spectacular and it is a solid pit stop on your bald mountain Idaho adventure. read more

Located half way up Baldy mountain, Roundhouse is accessible from the Warm Springs Gondola. Great for lunch and dinner. The view from Avril's bar is spectacular at night. The food is great but the atmosphere is even better. The main dining room has a multisided fireplace and raw wood beams along with antler chandeliers. I had fondue which has two choices for dipping. Next up fillet with prawns which did not disappoint. There was no charge for us to ride the Gondala. The place has been around since the 1930s and is a must for anyone coming to Sun Valley. read more

I literally have to give this restaurant a 5 star review for a few reasons . First of all is this place is packed to the brim without even room at the bar during peak hours so beware there .. that's really my only gripe but I was still able to get a beer and finish watching the green bay game up until I was seated... here's when things got really interesting . I told the maitre de I needed a table for 4 and I was sitting there's for 35 min before the rest of my party arrived. In my opinion and experience a lot of places will make you give up the table in such peak hours but they were so patient with me I was shocked. My server Ken was incredible and should be promoted immediately, he provided excellent service and when we were all done I went to the balcony to take a pic and the maitre de ran out just to help me take the perfect pic .. all in all 5 star experience!!! read more

AND on the website it said it was closed...took several phone calls to find out it wasn't. Also, they don't mention $25/person to get up to The Roundhouse. Food was okay, but they don't have coffee! No coffee of any kind. A bartender there said it was because they used to brew two gallons of it and pour it all out at the end of the day. But how hard is it to have a little Mr. Coffee there and make a pot? Or a keurig? What about a French press? read more

This historic restaurant at the top of the Roundhouse Lift is one of my favorites! Reservations are a must! We had the cheese fondue! It's just wonderful. And we split a Croque Monsieur which was delicious. The service from Olga was wonderful. She was our waitress last year as well. We'll return to the Roundhouse over and over. With views this spectacular and a location over halfway up a mountain, The Roundhouse could be forgiven for cheap, low quality food - but they don't need to be, because their food is fantastic, and exactly what you need after a long day on the mountain, especially when paired with a cold Stiegl Radler!
