My review is as follows. 1.Beautiful contemporary renovated space. 2. Service acceptable but a bit slow. 3. Limited menu choices. They were out of red snapper at 5:30pm? My choice was the featured macadamia encrusted monchong entree. Very good presentation, served with baby carrots and broccolini. The fish was slightly dry from overcooking and the broccolini was undercooked and chewy. All acceptable but not up to the usual Roy's standards. Macadamia encrusted fish is so ordinary in Hawaii that it's not really special anymore. I'll try it again soon after they have worked out the kinks.

We ordered the fresh catch of the day which was Manchong crisped crab. When we got it, it looked like there wasn't even any crab crusted on it. Barely even had any at all. Just a small layer of it. Braised short rib- two big chunks of beef. Delicious but nothing sooo 'ooooh and ahhhh' over it. The potato au gratin was definitely the winner in that. Not a lot of restaurants on Kauai serve it, so it was the 'ohhhhhh' factor of the dish. We ordered the halo halo and chocolate crispy bar. I wish the chocolate bar was more colder to my own liking. It was just a room tempature mousse, that i couldn't wait to just bring it home and chill it to eat in the morning. Halo halo felt like a left over açaí bowl with panna cotta in the bottom. Everything you probably would find in their morning acai bowl, but for dessert with ube ice cream instead of acai. The panna cotta was delicious though. Not authentic halo halo. Everything overall looked exquisite. Nice new place for drinks and live music.

Parking can be a bit challenging if you don't want to use valet, so plan accordingly. You're paying for the incredible views, the relaxing ambiance, and a memorable dining experience. We showed up at 8:30 (they close at 9) and told the host that we just wanted a table for drinks. They said no problem, took my phone number and I received a text that we had a reservation. The host said to wait in the lobby while they waited for a 4 person table to free up. 20 minutes later after seeing many people leave the restaurant I figured there had to be a table available so I went and asked the hostess what the status was and they said they didn't know we were waiting for a table. The hostess said "nobody told me" Uhh... hello? You took my phone number and I received an opentable text that I had a reservation. Who is telling who? It should be in your system in front of you. The hostess shrugged and said sorry. The infuriating part of this was sitting there in the waiting area being ignored by all the staff while watching the hostesses and the valet parking guys flirt and talk gossip. We were obviously not a priority and they were "checked out" for the evening since it was almost closing time. They did finally seat us and we ordered the mai-tais, but sadly they were not the same. The foam (which is what makes the mai tai so great) was really sour - not the same as you can get from the original restaurant. More broadly, I thought with this being such a nice restaurant, they would make more of an attempt to say they were sorry about ignoring us, but they didn't. Even if the mai-tai was great, we wont be coming back.
