Hostess turned us away because our 3-year-old son would not be eating from the restaurant menu. Our son has personal needs that affect what foods he can tolerate, but we were not willing to discuss those private matters in front of a restaurant full of strangers just to justify his presence. For a business that proudly advertises itself as family- and child-friendly, this was an incredibly disappointing experience. Apparently, that welcome only extends to families whose children fit a certain mold. Not every child can eat restaurant food. Not every family wants to publicly disclose their child's personal challenges to satisfy a hostess. A little compassion, discretion, and common sense would have gone a long way. Instead, we were made to feel unwelcome and chose to leave. Families with children who have sensory, developmental, medical, or other special considerations should be aware that they may not receive the understanding or accommodation they would reasonably expect from a "family-friendly" establishment. Visited Good Times Grill during our stay in Kauai. The staff were warm, friendly, and very welcoming throughout our visit. They also had a live band playing, which created a fun atmosphere and it looked like a lot of people were really enjoying themselves. If you're just looking for a quiet place to sit and eat, though, it can get a bit loud, nothing against the live music, just something to keep in mind depending on what kind of dining experience you're looking for. The ahi nachos were a bit disappointing for us. The ahi itself was fresh and tasted great, but the "nachos" were actually more like fried wontons instead of traditional nacho chips, which felt a little odd and just wasn't really our thing. It would've helped if that was disclosed on the menu or if the server gave a quick heads up beforehand so expectations were clearer. On the positive side, the Tempura Ahi Bites were our favorite dish out of everything we ordered, definitely the standout item for us. We never got served. We went with 2 hours before boarding our flight and they had live music which was really, really loud inside so we asked to sit outside. Another table was seated after us but closer to the entrance and they got greeted and served water and their orders were taken but not even a confirmation of our presence us. We asked the hostess station for our server and a few minutes later I motioned to the server when she was three (empty) tables down from us and she gave me the stink eye and walked inside not to be found. Rob's is a popular little sports bar in Lihue. Great place to grab a drink with friends and family. It's has a lively atmosphere and they also bring in live entertainment. The food is actually pretty good for a sports bar and the menu has some interesting choices. Though they do have some pretty good meal options, what I enjoy the most are the appetizers. Fried ahi bites, calamari, and poke nachos are among my favorites. I could honestly just have a bunch of their appetizers for a meal and leave happy and satisfied. Overall a great hangout spot. I love me some Steak. Especially a Good Cut of Ribeye, fat to meat ratio was good. Just the right amount. Was very happy with the size and definitely the price. But, I would say Carrots was hard as a rock, had hard time putting my fork in um. Maybe if can offer some different sides to tje menu. This local sports bar is big, open and spacious. They have happy hour from 3-6 pm to watch your favorite sports games. TVs are everywhere in the restaurant. The appetizer options are amazing. First time at Robs and could not be more pleased. Stopped at 4pm for dinner and had club sandwich and wife had burger. By far best club sandwich I have ever had with homemade bread,roasted turkey,bacon and lettuce and tomatoes. Fries were hand cut and fried perfectly. The Chili Pepper Chicken was as described by another yelper "popcorn chicken with more seasoning". The chicken was juicy and def worth an order. The islanders may hate me for putting this out there, idk, but so far this has been my favorite place! LOVED IT. We were so exhausted and just wanted good food. So glad I chose this place. It was about 10pm on a Friday night. It was filled with locals just hanging out. The vibes were right. I ordered the Gotta Try Smoked Meat Plate which was smoked pork with onions and an options of sides. I finished it ALL by myself and wanted to try something else just because it was that good. My fiancé got the Cajun sandwich and agreed it was phenomenal. I loved sitting and listening to the locals play music. Letting the Good Times Roll @Rob's Good Times Grill. Here is how it went down. We had just finished our train ride at the Kauai Plantation Railway and we were ready for dinner. We had intentions to eat at Gaylord's restaurant on the Plantation property, but it was Sunday and on Sundays... Gaylord's is Closed!!! whomp whomp whomp So onto Plan B! Without hesitation, my sister-in-law immediately jumped into action and whipped out her phone. With a few flicks of her thumbs, suddenly she exclaimed, "I found a place and it's not too far." Before we made our way there, I got on the phone with Rob's and asked if it was kid friendly and if they would be able to reserve a table for our large group of 10. They said yes to kid friendly and that a table would be saved for our big party. So we piled into our cars and off we went. At first look, I thought to myself... 'Where did she take us?' This place doesn't look like Kauai! Do they even have food here?? These were all thoughts that went through my head, but then I remembered the old adage... "Never judge a book by its cover!" So with an open mind, we all made our way into.. Rob's Good Times Grill. As promised, a table with a Reserve sign was waiting just for us! Upon sitting down, we were cordially greeted by our server, a local Hawaiian gentleman and he was super cool and really great throughout our entire service. We all got something different from the menu and everyone seemed to enjoy the local fare. The food portions are big and priced fairly for what you get. Of course, the adults each got 1 alcoholic drink to cheers to our time spent together in Kauai. The menu has lots of great local beers (made on Kauai) as well as Hawaiian made beers from the other islands; A full bar is also available. And if you're a sports fan, you're in good company! Lots of sports memorabilia on the walls and of course big screen tv's to catch the big game on game day. The best part.... Shhhh, keep this a SECRET! Tried Rob's for the first time last Sunday. Service was so friendly. The waitress was all smiles and very helpful with our choices. This is a cool place and surprisingly large on the inside. Looks like they probably have live music and karaoke? I had the Ramen, which was a ridiculously huge serving but, just what i needed with a slight hangover. My daughter had the grilled chicken salad and our friend the kale salad. Everything was tasty and huge portions. Pricing was reasonable. Each entry was around $18-ish.
