I loved being able to try small amounts of each wine! It was fun to have tasters. One thing I think would be nice, would be the option to choose smaller "flight" sized glasses instead of one large glass. We came to the Ruby Tap on the Friday of Art 64. At about 5:30pm there was plenty of space to find a spot. We decided to do the card to tap and self pour wine. It's super easy and it gives you the option to try a variety of wine. They have glasses for both white and red wine so be sure to ask. It was 2 of us and we sampled 3 wines each and it was not terribly expensive but they do have a pricy red wine all the way at the end of the line so be aware. The server was nice and the interior is really nice and comfy. We sat on the couch and comfortably enjoyed our evening here. I definitely would recommend to friends. read more

Variety, 32 tappers with a good mix of reds and whites and from low priced wines to higher priced wine as well as size of the pours (small to taste, to medium to try and then large to enjoy) and prices of each pour varies by price of the bottle. You can select 1.5-ounce tastes, 3-ounce half pours or 6-ounce full pours of wines from the machines, or 3-ounce, 6-ounce or 18-ounce carafes of wine from the tap. Those who find a wine they enjoy may also purchase a bottle to take with them. Description and background on each wine at each tapper. I've been to a few other "wine tap" wine bars with more tappers and varieties of wines (32 more tappers to be specific). Of course, this is a wine bar, with monthly wine memberships and education on wines to purchasing wines from all over. Two different memberships to check out. What I like about this wine club is the wines from all over versus a wine club membership from say, Cooper's Hawk which is their own "brand". The bar also has other drinks and a few other wines available. A small menu for appetizers and sharable dishes. Value, is subjective but for a wine lover who wants to try wines without purchasing a full glass, this is where you go. $3 on up for a 1.5 ounce can get pricey for some. The value here is not spending $15 on a glass to not like it. The wine tappers are cooled to proper temperature so you are truly tasting the wines as they should be which to me adds to the value. We were here for a bridal shower and the setting was absolutely perfect and just right for our group size! I haven't been to Ruby Tap before and was excited to check it out. The event was on a Sunday so I can't comment on how Ruby Tap is during regular business hours but today's experience was exceptional! The staff was amazing- not overbearing but always there with drinks, food or clearing the table. We started with mimosas (orange, grapefruit or both), or teas, lemonade, etc if that was desired. The water station is a great idea for people to grab water whenever they need it. One detail I was surprised to see was the Riedel stemware. Not typically the kind of high quality you'd normally find in a restaurant but added to the elegance of Ruby Tap. The bites that were served were all yummy. Cheeses, olives, rosemary nuts, vegetable platter and a Parmesan popcorn. Everything was labeled too so you weren't guessing what it was you were putting on your plate. I don't believe Ruby Tap typically serves more than the small bites but for this event, we also had chicken salad in croissants (cut in half, perfect for us ladies who normally wouldn't eat an entire croissant sandwich), a chopped salad with balsamic, pine nuts and blue cheese, and a large fruit platter with only the best fruits (strawberries, raspberries, pineapple and apples). Everything tasted amazing and very much appreciated the healthier option for this luncheon. Finished up with a cappuccino that was absolutely perfect! Gifts were opened by the fireplace where we could sit on the couches and big chairs. I love the rustic elegance in Ruby Tap and can see why people would want to relax here with a glass of wine or two. Outdoor seating is also available. This place was SOO CUTE!! I love that you get the option of pouring your own wine, and choosing which choices you'd like. There's a lot of selection which is great. They have a description underneath each bottle which is helpful. You can either pick by the glass or go to the machine with a card and purchase wine throughout the night that way. I chose this option. The prices ranged from $5-$10+ for the red wine portion. They're different by ounces. I didn't check out the white wines this time. The vibe is really cool in here and their outside area was really beautiful. They have a indoor outdoor feel too. It's right on the street and the string lights definitely make the mood romantic. I'm a pretty big wine person. That is, I can navigate my wine through a wine menu without much trouble. But I'm by no means an expert. So, in theory, Ruby Tap is made for someone like me. The basic concept of Ruby Tap is to allow patrons the opportunity to sample a variety of wines. They have a respectable assortment of wine lined up along the wall, kind of like a soda fountain. You take your glass and select what size pour you would like. I only purchased the smallest sample size, as I wanted to be able to try a good amount of wines without breaking the bank. Most of these sample pours ranged from about $4-$7, although there were a few select bottles that were over $10 for the sample pour alone. When I say, "sample pour" I literally mean 1 mouthful of wine, so this is truly wine tasting at its stingiest. The wines offered were good. In fact, I liked one so much that I was going to get a full glass of it. However, one of the servers informed me that there is a corkage fee, which I think is beyond stupid. In my experience, corkage fees are for when you bring your OWN wine into a restaurant. So this is mind boggling to me. Beyond the wine itself, there's not much else to Ruby Tap. The only food available is "finger food" like cheese or olive plates. The cheese was just decent. Not, in my opinion, worth NEARLY what Ruby Tap charges for it. Bottom line: Ruby Tap is fun if you just want to sample some new wines or maybe to go for an overpriced date night. Don't expect much more than that. read more

The best way that I can describe Ruby Tap is that it's the exact opposite of Leff's Lucky Town. Instead of rivers of beer, there are two dozen wines in high tech vending machines. Instead of greasy wings, there are delicate bites of cheese or charcuterie. Instead of TV's blasting the big game, there are cozy seating areas and board games. Instead of being a sausage party, it's an estrogen fest. You get my drift - this is the place to go with your best girlfriends to bitch about work or significant others while sipping on a glass (or ten) of wine. Like Yo Mama next door, Ruby Tap is self serve. You get a swipe card which activates the machines and choose what you like from a few dozen offerings. There are pour size options - 1.5 oz is a "taste", 3 oz is "I'm driving" and 6oz is "JT size". Prices vary by wine but seem in line. When your glass is empty, you don't have to wait for a server - you refill when and as much as you want. As Mike P. correctly notes - they have done a top notch job on the interior here. It's cozy, clean and welcoming with lots of comfortable spots to sit and chat. It's high- quality down to the smallest details. Instead of some watered down Softsoap in the bathroom they have Mrs.Meyer's. I notice things like that. Gents - this is a great place for a date. What a fantastic addition to the Tosa Village! Living in Toaa, I've been here multiple times and always have a great experience. The atmosphere is a comfortable rustic chic with bar, table and lounge seating (most of the lighting and furniture seems to be from West Elm or similar if you ever shop there). Perfect for both groups and if you are looking for something more intimate. There is a whole wall of wines to choose from, each with a description of it's flavor and the prices clearly marked. I love the self serve concept and the fact that I can try out as much as I'd like. They also have a large cooler or craft beers for those who prefer that. The menu consists of snacks with cheese, meat, crackers, truffle popcorn, olives etc. that are good for light noshing. Brought my wife here as a night cap to our date night. She is a huge fan and had never been. It was recommended by a friend and boy did he nail it. She loved the concept and went a little crazy on the wine. Since it was our first time we let the bartender know and he helped my wife by explaining how things worked. They have beer and enough of a selection that I was able to grab something I haven't had before. We sat outside and scanned the menu. While we sat there she made future plans with friends to come back. The only downer was that fact that there was a lady with a little dog there. I am not opposed to that per se but they serve food here and the dog crapped on the deck. Then, she proceeded to wipe the dogs butt with a napkin and just left it sitting on the deck. When the wind shifted you caught a whiff of it. She must have been friends with someone that works there because the same lady behind the counter would come over and chat with her pretty often. I hear they are opening one in Mequon which is closer to us and we may get a chance to visit it more often. Hope no one brings their dogs. read more

Ruby Tap is pretty awesome, but 5 starts, I think not. It is a very unique wine bar and it is hip and trendy, but they could do better. Here is the concept: you can taste around 50 different wines, and all at your own pace. You open a tab and they give you a card and a glass. You insert the card into these machines full of various wines and choose how much you want, 1.5, 3 or 6 ounces, priced accordingly. A very neat idea, especially for those who don't know what kind of wine they like yet. You can also order very small portions of specialty cheeses and meats by filling out a little slip of paper at your table and bringing it up to the bar. When I say small portions, I mean it. They were literally only a slice of cheese and several crackers. Do not expect table service here. They will clear your plates eventually, but if you need something go to the bar. It is a relatively small place, with not a ton of seating. The seating they have is very jammed in there so it was hard to navigate. If I owned the place I would have more high tables without chairs so people could at least have a place to set their drink if the must stand. read more

The Ruby Tap was cute, cool and fun. (be sure to read the food pairings with each wine, it can get kinda funny :) The first thing we did was try the tap wines - a Pinot, Syrah and Cab. The only one remotely palatable was the Cab, but still not that good. I am no Sommelier, but they were pretty dreadful and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Off to the cases we went! The tastes ranged "mostly" from about $2.50 up to $6.00 - with only 1 or 2 crazy expensive, we calculated the costs for short pour were approximately 10% of the bottle price. Then, there are 2 more longer pours with the third being a full glass. The one I liked best of my 4 or so tastes was my only full glass (and I was lucky enough to get a few more drops because the bottle was empty and the bartender emptied the bottom of the bottle in my glass as I stood waiting :) We hypothesized that they dumped all the leftovers in those tapper wines, LOL. (bartender assured me they didn't). All in all, a great time and I'd def go back and maybe get some cheese or something from their menu which I didn't study but appeared to be simple and more for appetizers. And in case you were wondering, my full glass was the Avanthia, from Spain - Mencia. I've never heard of this wine. The smell reminded me of coffee, the taste was the smoothest and felt like a high quality (shit, it was $45 - better be high quality). The little card mentioned hints of dark chocolate and that's where the coffee fragrance came from. REALLY good - I'd recommend it! My trip (no food) about a 2 hour visit was $35 range.
