I had the Caesar salad, lasagna and hazelnut torte. I would order the lasagna and torte again without a doubt. SO DISAPPOINTING!! We were a party of three - I arrived before the others. Hostess could not find our reservation, but after some time claimed to have found it and attempted to seat me at a table for two - I had to correct her, and I was then seated at a table by the window - the draftiness was significant and distracting on a cold evening. We were offered a small basket of bread with a small plate of olive oil with a blob of what appeared to be roasted garlic. Our party ordered the lamb shank, the lasagna, and I ordered the Carbonara-our waiter exclaimed how that was an 'excellent choice and his favourite item on the menu. I expected a bowl of hot fettuccine with a thick, flavorful, creamy cheese sauce, but what I got was a bowl of lukewarm pasta at best. The 'sauce' was runny and lacked flavour - it resembled milk. There was no salt or pepper on the table, nor was any Parmesan cheese offered to help improve the flavor of the sauce. No additional bread was offered. We ordered Creme Brulee for dessert. It too was NOT hot, the sugar topping was burnt, and what should have been a firm vanilla custard was also runny - and had almost a curdled appearance. Again, outside of burnt sugar, there was no flavour. Our server was nice enough, but the food was so lackluster I can't recommend Ill Mitto. I've been dying to go here and happy we tried it. It took a minute for the hostess to find our reservation and seat us thought he place was pretty empty at 5:30pm on a Friday. It seems they must have moved around the tables recently as both she and many of the servers kept counting the tables out loud repeatedly. As it was our first time, we didn't know what to expect. Our server was nice but didn't tell us about the drink specials that we heard from another server (after we already had our drinks). We ordered the meatballs app but our server told us it was just one large meatball. Fine but maybe update the menu? It was delicious, including the polenta underneath. We also got some herbed bread and oil/garlic to dip our bread in, which was okay. We both ordered pasta - the lasagna and the mushroom tortelloni. Both were good but the portions were on the smaller size considering the price. We then also received "fry bread" at our table, which we weren't expecting but thought was part of the dining experience. After a few minutes, our server came by to explain it was the gluten free bread but we won't be charged extra for it. A large party came in and took over most of the bar and dining space for 10-15 minutes - super distracting in such a small dining room. They were eventually led to another area but it messed with the ambiance as echoed by other diners in close proximity to us. All in all, would try again. We had reservations for a Friday night and it was perfect. We were able to get a spot on the patio and it was perfect. I think what really sealed the deal was the authentic guest service it felt like home and there were real genuine conversations with staff especially the host who was super kind. I started with the Italian Sangria and it was great, not a hard thing to mess up through. The fresh complimentary bread was nice and warm with olive oil to dip on the side. For dinner I got the Pomodoro and it was a great fresh dish and my husband got the ribeye. The steak was fantastic. We also ended up getting the raspberry torte and it hit the spot. read more

I've been to Il Mito a couple of time and it has yet to disappoint! Because we were taking advantage of the 3 for $35 special, we made a reservation and upon arrival, were greeted and seated promptly. During the summer months, the outdoor patio is lovely and my favorite! The dining room during the winter months is nice but the patio vibe is unmatched with the lighting, greenery, flowers and sounds of the summer night. Everything I've tried here was delectable but my favorites are the lasagna and the espresso gelato (if you can get it). I did try something new this last time with the carpaccio and found it to be very tasty but I think larger shavings of parmesan would take this to the next level. The Feker wines (generously poured) are both affordable and in line with some of the more impressive California wines I've tasted. Overall, the dining experience at Il Mito is always an enjoyable one and I look forward to another delightful dinner in the near future. We came here for our anniversary dinner. I can't believe we never heard of this restaurant! Wow what a pleasant surprise. We went as soon as they opened at 5pm. We were seated right away. We ordered the bruschetta for our appetizer along with a brandy old fashioned. The bruschetta was delicious, I enjoyed the Parmesan cheese on top. The old fashioned was delicious of course. We received complimentary bread with olive oil and garlic which was so good! I really liked that instead of just plain olive oil. For our main entrees i ordered the pumpkin ravioli and my bf ordered the chicken marsala which was one of the specials. The pumpkin ravioli was outstanding! Pasta was fresh and bursting with fall spices! I ate the whole thing. Perfect portion. I will be thinking of these raviolis! I need to have this again. My bf enjoyed his dish very much. So much flavor and the mashed potatoes had so much flavor. We both cleaned up our plates. We also had the crème brulee for our dessert and of course ate the whole thing. Our server was fantastic. Let me preface this review with the fact that I'm an Italian cuisine snob. If you've read my other reviews of Italian fare in MKE you'll notice the trend to be rather underwhelmed. So, I thought I would table my attitude and try some other recommended spots to see if they were at least close to Chicago level (only three places in my life were up to actual Italy level, outside of Italia). When we first entered we were greeted by Omar. He told us his grandmother was Sicilian. Great start. Then, I ordered some bruschetta (pronounced "brew-skay-tuh"). Sorry, but that is a pet peeve when the waiters in an Italian restaurant don't know how to pronounce the dishes. But, back to the food. It was splendid. The tomatoes were ripe, the olive oil was tasty and the bread perfectly toasted. For my main course I had the Ravioli di Zucca. This was the litmus test for me. I've dined often in Mantova, Italy where their pride rests in pumpkin dishes. Yeah, this was outstanding. In fact, it may have been the best Italian pasta dish I've eaten in MKE. Bravi. My father wasn't as happy with his ribeye Bistecca di Manzo Fiorentina. He felt the cut was a little tough and therefore didn't finish it. This is a rare occurrence for him as he is a Missouri steak lover. But, all in all, I felt really good about Il Mito Trattoria and hope you give it a try yourselves. This is a place I frequent because it's that good! There's no parking lot, but street parking has never been an issue. No need to post the menu because it's up to date online. I especially like the 3 for $35 option. Many things from the menu are included. Unfortunately if it's not a special or listed as an option, you can't switch it out. I wanted the tomato soup in place of a starter and I couldn't get it. But I did order it extra and it was really good with the bread and garlic olive oil they bring to your table. This is a great place for a family dinner, a nice date, a girls evening out, whatever you want. The food is made fresh and comes out hot. The drinks are tasty - plenty of options or just get wine. I was there last night and it was the first time I ordered one of the specials (which can be added to the 3/$35 deal for $9). The dish was fettuccine with a white wine lemon caper sauce, chicken & shrimp. It was delish, but I feel like the fettuccine was too big and chunky for such a delicate sauce. It prob should have been angel hair. Also, the chicken was tiny pieces and not really present. I did order the tomato soup which I highly recommend and wish they'd add that to the special. The Caesar salad was super fresh, but lacked enough dressing to really taste the Caesar zip. And for dessert I had the chocolate hazelnut torte which was a small individual cake - it was a little over baked but still delicious. I took it home and heated and added vanilla ice cream. A week ago we went for a family dinner and I ordered straight off the menu - the eggplant, lasagna and pistachio gelato. Everything was perfect!!! Both visits we had the same waiter. The waitstaff and the hostess were both super attentive both times. That's one thing you don't need to worry about - you never have to wonder where the waiter is, they check in on you! Nice Italian restaurant in downtown Tosa. We were able to grab a reservation to ensure we had our table on time and were seated right away. The staff was fast and efficient and took great care of us. I got the lasagna which was very very cheese forward. Unfortunately I did not care for this. I like lasagna where the meat flavor is more prominent and the cheese is baked. My wife got the short ribs with mashed potatoes which were better in my opinion. I'd definitely come back to try something else though. read more

My wife and I decided to give Il Mito a try for Valentine's dinner this year. We'd never been here before but had heard the food was very good. We have two young children at home, so had to utilize takeout versus dine in. We ordered Fettucine Carbonara which was pretty decent, Chicken Parm which was also fairly decent and finally stuffed mushrooms. When we got the food home, we opened the mushrooms and found that only 3 were in the container. This is half the amount shown on the picture when you order online (screenshot attached to review). I did call and was told that 3 is the standard order and not 6. So that was rather disappointing to get 1/2 the amount we were expecting. Would have certainly never ordered 3 small stuffed mushrooms for $10. All in all - food was OK but certainly turned off by the misleading menu/pictures. read more

The bottom line of this place: it's decent for pasta, wouldn't recommend the other things. The dessert is great. More attention to detail needed. Let's dive in. First drinks. I got the Mythtini which was a fruity martini with passion fruit and cherry. It was good. For a $12 drink it's a little disappointing to see those cheap maraschino cherries rather than the deeply colored and way more delicious ones that are better quality. My dad said the Negroni was good, but would've been better with one large ice cube rather than several small ice cubes. My mom ordered the Wisconsin martini which was shockingly bad. It tasted like a bottle of cherry cough syrup. I'm not usually very picky with drinks but it was such a strong and off putting taste. We asked our waitress (who was great) what her suggestions were. She highly recommended the mushroom tortellini, so we ordered a plate of that as our shared appetizer. Great choice, the pasta was very good. It was al dente and flavorful. The one thing I would've liked to see/taste is a better variety of mushrooms. It seemed to be all portobello mushrooms, and it would've been nice to have a variety of oyster or shiitake mushrooms in addition to the portobello mushrooms. I had some mixed feelings about the entrees. Let's start with bad news first. The bistecca did not seem like a good quality piece of meat. The flavor was not great & the steak was over cooked and dry (although we ordered it medium). It had some char on it which normally would be a good thing, but the parts that got charred were over-charred which lead some pieces to have a bitter taste. Lastly, there was a lot of fat on the piece of meat. The menu said it came with carbonara pasta, but it came with pesto. And finally the sautéed spinach was really just a throw away on the dish - no point at all. The pasta dishes we tried as appetizers were good. The bolognese & the lasagna. Their lasagna is made with short ribs instead of ground meat so that was interesting and good. The sauce on the lasagna was on the acidic side, but it was good. The bolognese had good flavor and texture. I wish it had a couple pieces of pancetta and more of a robust wine flavor like a more traditional bolognese. The desserts were a hit - especially the tiramisu. It was fantastic. Nice and soft but not too sweet. The chocolate hazelnut torte was also nice and warm. This place is decent for Italian food as long as you stick to the pasta. Maybe skip drinks, but definitely not dessert! read more

I came here for Tosa restaurant week, and even though it was falsely advertised as participating March 3-13, when I came in on Friday with reservations, I was informed they didn't provide this deal on the weekends. While I was not happy about this, I was hungry, we got lucky with close street parking, and we were already there so we decided to stay. The ambiance is definitely intimate, low light, older building, and Italian vibes. The staff was dressed nicely and very polite. You do get complimentary warm bread with olive oil and garlic to dip it in, but this didn't come with our wine when we sat down - it came AFTER our calamari came out (weird, not ideal, not the end of the world.) The reason this is 4 stars - BEST DUCK I'VE EVER HAD. The slow roasted cage-free Wisconsin grown duck was melt-in-your-mouth, rich, moist, and just delectable. The roasted veggie risotto cake had an explosion of flavor between the herbs and cheesy goodness. The sauteed spinach had a spicy taste to it which was surprising and wonderful. I was expecting more from the Michigan blueberry reduction (there were whole berries and I had no blueberry flavor) but the rest of the fish made up for that. My boyfriend got the black Angus beef short ribs that are slow braised with Barolo, fresh celery, carrots, and onion - good but mediocre and a small serving size. It came with Farmeson mashed potatoes and I've never seen a smaller portion of mashed potatoes. For a $20+ plate - I expect more. Overall, would return. read more

We've been here a few times and the food is incredible. We recently stopped in on a Friday night and we're able to get seats at the bar because they had so many reservations. The bartender took great care of us and was very attentive despite being incredibly busy. I had the tortellini ai finghi which was a perfect portion of pasta and stuffed full of deliciously seasoned mushrooms. The sauce was creamy but not too thick, it was so good I forgot to snap a pic! I had an espresso martini which was almost a dessert itself and the bartender definitely knew how to make a good drink. I decided to surprise my wife with a nice Italian restaurant for date night. I follow Chef Feker on Instagram and had seen the amazing looking dishes so I wanted to check this place out. We had a reservation for 5pm, right when they opened. Our experience was pretty amazing, read below for more details and why this wasn't necessarily a 5 star review (I'd give it a 4.75 personally). First off, the service was awesome. The gentleman who waited on us was prompt and courteous. When we asked questions about the menu he was deliberate in his answers and most importantly when we asked for his opinion between two dishes he was exacting in his response. This was such a welcome interaction as most times we get the wishy washy answers from the waitstaff. Food and drinks came out with almost perfect timing. As the patio got busier so did our waiter but we never felt we had to wait long for anything. Let's talk about the food, which is why you came here. The calamari was pretty standard and didn't really stand out per se, so definitely worth getting if you like calamari. Next we ordered a pasta dish but we did so when the idea that it would be another appetizer. What was awesome was that they split the order and gave us our own dish. This made splitting the dish really easy. My steak was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. My wife on the other hand wasn't a fan of the lamb She felt it was a little gamey and may have hit that mutton category. While the was prepared well and wasn't exactly was hoping for, it wasn't worthy of being returned. We did make mention of it just so the kitchen staff knew what we experienced. We weren't looking for anything, just commenting but we were provided a nice desert to go as a jester for the food not being 100%. Something I don't believe the restaurant can remedy but something to be aware of, if you are sitting outside you may experience some "wild life" running through the bushes as we did. From a Covid-19 response, the staff was masked appropriately and all the tables looked to be distanced as expected. This made us feel more comfortable with our experience. With a humble ambiance and unassuming plates, this place achieves exquisite flavors and will leave you astonished. I was hesitant to book my reservation but I am so glad I did. Don't let the modesty fool you. The food here is delicious! First, the service is wonderful. Our waitress checked in appropriately, gave great recommendations, and was incredibly kind. We enjoyed the Calamari Fritti which had a nice light and crisp batter that showcased the squid. It was seasoned perfectly, the squid was tender, and it came with a delicious garlic aioli. The pasta is to die for! The Tortelloni ai Funghi boasted mushrooms galore. The tortelloni was packed full, the filling was flavorful, and the pasta was tender and the perfect al dente. The cream sauce it sits atop was a dream; delicious cream with slices of mushrooms and herbs will make your stomach sing. The Ravioli di zucca was just as incredible. Filled with a perfectly balanced pumpkin filling that has hints of sweetness and savory notes. The sage cream sauce is unctuous and perfectly paired with the flavors of the fall filling. The Spaghetti Bolognese arrived in a large bowl and bursted with flavor. The sauce has hints of red wine that pairs perfectly with the chunks of Italian sausage, beef, and herbs. The pasta is cooked perfectly! The Bistecca di manzo Fiorentina was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The cut was tender and juicy! The steak was perfectly charred and had a nice smoky undertone. We got linguine with pesto sauce as a side and that pesto is in a class of its own; creamy, filled with bright herbs, and mouth watering! This is such a hidden gem. Like I have visited Cranky Al and Rocket Baby nearby so many times since I moved to Tosa 10 months ago, I didn't even notice this restaurant until recently. Hubby and I celebrated Valentine's Day here. Warm-tone wooden interior and lighting, lovely vibe and very nice host and servers team. I got the lamb shank which was very meaty, juicy, tender and flavorful. The sided polenta and cauliflowers were yummy too. I highly recommend this dish. Hubby got the crab meat & ricotta cheese raviolis and he liked them. I tried a piece and agreed. The crab meat was fresh and the thin pasta dough of the raviolis tasted soft but a bit chewy. The lobster sauce was absolutely delicious. I just wished they could have been more filled though - more ricotta cheese. Don't get me wrong - the crab meat came in generous amount, but the raviolis still looked flat and lacked that fatty creamy texture from the cheese. Our Riesling and Sauvignon blanc were great. This is our go-to date night! The atmosphere is very calm, authentic, and overall classy. The food is also very authentic and each dish has it's own unique flavor that you've probably never had anywhere else! The servers are all so professional and know each dish like it is their own, therefore they can steer you in the right direction if you're unsure of what to order! We have had many dishes here, but our favorite appetizer is the seafood dish, and my personal favorite entree is the lamb! Wow. Waited 25 minutes before and no service came to our table. I had to go find a service person. They apologized and then didn't bring our apetizers for another 20 minutes, and forgot to bring our drinks. Yhen we waited almost a hour for or food. I was told if was the weekend, that they were busy, and that I should have made a reservation. This is the first time I've ever been disappointed at Il Mito. We went with some friends who had never been there. We were seated at the big round table by the front window. I ended up having to ask the hostess if we were going to see a wait staff member anytime soon since we had been there for at least 10 minutes. I'm sorry but our guests were getting a bit anxious about it. Finally, the waiter comes over and attends to us. So that was a new thing for us. Usually over the many times we've been there we have never had to hunt down the waiter. It wasn't that crowded either. Then the risotto I ordered came with shrimp and asparagus. The asparagus was just the stalk end and they had quite a bit of girth to them. Having just eaten a day ago at another restaurant and ordered an entree that also had asparagus in it I know that there is spring asparagus available to chefs. I'm not sure why Il Mito is not ordering this type of asparagus for their dishes since it's much slimmer and so tender. So, we'll probably give Il Mito another try sometime in the future since this was the first disappointing experience we've had. read more

Il Mito is without a doubt one of the quintessential Wauwatosa restaurants, and came highly recommended to me by several locals. It does a great job of capturing cozy neighborhood vibes that you can only find in a place like this, with friendly and warm service and unpresumptuous yet satisfying dishes with a bit of that Feker flair. My friend and I were thrilled to see Il Mito listed on the Tosa Restaurant Week site and knew that we had to stop by to try it. The restaurant has a welcoming and comfortable interior with seating for couples and small groups. I even saw a couple nooks that might be good for single diners! It is pretty small inside, so I would definitely make a reservation if you thinking of dining at a busy time. This is the kind of restaurant where you feel immediately at ease chatting with the tables next to you and talking about what to order. The couple next to us were regular customers and gave some great recommendations for us to try! We opted to try out the special menu for this week, which offered 3 courses for $33 (an amazing deal, especially in this economy). We started with the carpaccio and polpettone. The carpaccio was an absolute delight, a light and easy-to-eat dish- all the savoriness of the meat with none of the heaviness. If you're reading this and skeptical of eating raw meat (yes, I'm aware of the cannibal sandwich phenomenon), I think Il Mito's carpaccio is a very good entry point. The meatball was just okay- I do wish it was more tender, it was somewhat dry and not the most pleasant eating experience. Unfortunately, I also found a small piece of plastic in part of it, but didn't want to make a big deal out of it, it was easy to pick out. However, the polenta on the bottom, when mixed with the arrabbiata, was deliciously addictive. I've been a polenta skeptic for a while, but this dish changed my mind about how tasty polenta can be when done well. For entrees, we knew that we had to order the lasagna. I've heard high praise for this specialty from many Il Mito fans! Overall, I would say it was good but maybe the recommendations hyped me up too much. The concept sounded really good on the menu, but I expected more savory richness from the beef and- dare I say it, in Wisconsin of all states- I think it was too heavy-handed with the cheese. I know that's sacrilege to even think of here, and listen, I love cheese just as much as the next person, but the amount of cheese didn't give a lot of opportunity for the other components of this dish to shine. We also ordered the scaloppine di maiale al limone, which came with 3 pieces of pork tenderloin dressed in a lemon caper sauce, garlic linguine, and sauteed spinach. In the end, the spinach was my favorite thing on that plate... it was really well-seasoned and tasty. The rest of the dish was disappointing- the pork was really dry and I really wish there was more of the sauce- I think that would've ameliorated the pork! The linguine on the side was pretty plain so again, more sauce would've benefited this dish greatly. But I do need to figure out how to make my spinach like that... We finished with the tiramisu and the chocolate hazelnut tort. These were both pretty good! This was definitely the most decadent tiramisu I've had in recent memory, and the tort had a mild sweetness that kept me going back for more spoonfuls. Really enjoyed the service here- it felt like everyone really wanted us to feel at home here and they were considerate without being intrusive. We chatted until near closing time and didn't feel rushed to leave! I think the friendly service and Feker's interpretations of the classics make it clear why Il Mito has so many regulars. It seems like a great neighborhood spot and although the food was underwhelming to me personally, I would still recommend giving it a try to see if it's more to your taste! read more

Fun Saturday hanging out with my sister and we decided to grab some dinner here. We started with house crafted cocktails. We then began with the Frutti de mare en guazetto and a Tuscan salad of grilled vegetables. The frutti de mare is a must if you love seafood. For dinner we wanted to try some of their pizzas. We decided on the funghi and parma. The funghi was my favorite!!! Overall, it was a delicious dinner and great atmosphere. Our server was fantastic. I'll start by saying that I've never been disappointed by the food or drinks at Il Mito. But, damn, I'd sure like to know what it takes to receive the kind of service the "regulars" receive. We moved to Wauwatosa last May (2022) and have visited Il Mito 4 times since then, and we still get treated like we're imposing by taking up one of their valuable tables. On this occasion, I made the mistake of ordering an appetizer and cocktail before ordering dinner. 10 minutes after the appetizer was finished, we were still waiting for our dinner order to be taken, menus neatly folded on the table's edge. The hostess did briefly stop by to ask if our order had been taken, but then wandered off. Once our order *was* taken, we waited about 50 minutes for food to arrive. Now I get that Il Mito was reasonably crowded that evening, but when the food for nearby tables--who ordered after you did--arrives well ahead of yours, you get the feeling you're being punished. Not to mention that most diners received a chatty visit from the owner (?)...the manager (?), asking about their meal...except us. If getting reasonable service means popping into Il Mito...say...weekly or even monthly, it's a non-starter. There are simply too many interesting restaurants in Greater Milwaukee, but I'd really prefer for Il Mito to be a "go to" for when I'm craving Italian but don't want to travel out of Wauwatosa. read more

We did the private party event in the back room. It was for a work event and everything was amazing. The host is fun, outgoing and knowledgeable. The presentation & flavors were amazing for the first 2 courses. Then we cooked the steaks ourselves! It was very fun, easy to follow directions and the steak was melt in your mouth delicious. Finished it off with crème brûlée. I left feeling full & satisfied. Great idea for a work event! read more
