Found a bunch of excuses as to why they couldn't do things or Sandra straight up said she never said certain things. Her customer service needs some help she doesn't know how to talk to adults very well and throws a tantrum. I would give a negative 1 star if I could. I booked two events with The Rustic & Chic Co. (Rustic Rentals Company LLC) and paid a total of $8,000. I was told at the time of booking that I would have flexibility with payments, including the ability to move funds between events if needed. Despite making consistent payments, my event date was placed on hold and eventually released even though the conditions outlined in the contract for doing so were not met. When I tried to resolve the issue, I made multiple attempts to contact the business through email, text, and Instagram but received little to no response. When I was finally contacted, the interaction was unprofessional. During a phone call, Sandra Mendez raised her voice and stated that she had stepped away from the husbands hospital room, where she said her husband was dying of cancer, to call me. The conversation did not result in any resolution, and I was told I would receive a follow-up, which never happened. I later learned that my event date had been rebooked, but only after repeatedly trying to get a clear answer. In the last email I received, they offered an alternative venue, the Ramada by Wyndham South El Monte, which is permanently closed. Despite multiple good-faith efforts to resolve this matter and request a refund, my $8,000 has been retained and my communications have gone unanswered. When visiting another venue, I came across other individuals who stated they experienced similar issues with canceled events and difficulty obtaining refunds from The Rustic & Chic. I also became aware that the venue was discussed in a May 2025 City of South El Monte public hearing regarding its Conditional Use Permit (CUP), which was appealed. This raised concerns about the venue's ability to legally operate while continuing to accept payments from customers, including myself. Brides beware! Super disappointing. I saw their promo online and how they promoted monthly payments. There were even so kind to offer me free catering since I wouldn't have that many people there. Upon speaking to them everything went fine. Until they sent the invoice. The ceremony plus Venue would've been $6k and some change. But if I wanted monthly payments it was going to be 10k? That's 4k extra than originally quoted. How is that budget friendly? I understand having to charge interest and stuff but don't promote that you're budget friendly when you're going to charge 4k extra for making it affordable for other people. They will charge you for everything and make it up as they go along. They will not answer their phone. The venue is beautiful, but if only they could get it together. I recently attended an event that the rustic team coordinated, it's called cocktails and details basically gives us the guests a chance to ask questions, check out different vendors they might have and everything ran so smoothly. They were professional, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. I've had the chance to see how the team work behind the scenes, and it honestly deserves recognition I know based on peoples personal experiences and reading the comments that people have mixed feelings on this company. But me personally I like to come check things out for myself and make my own decision based on what I experienced. Based off what I experienced I had a lovely time everyone was communicative, hospitable and helpful. Event coordination is not easy especially when you're managing high-pressure situations and different personalities but they handle it with professionalism and care. I booked with this company back in 2021 and, thankfully, was able to put things on hold before losing more money. From the start, I should've trusted my gut. To even see the venue, we had to pay a deposit -- otherwise, we wouldn't be allowed to come by. When we did, the owner put on quite the performance, selling a dream about "working around your budget" and "handling all the stress for you." She even said she didn't know how she was in business because she's such a bad salesperson -- that should've been my first red flag. Once we received the invoice and saw all the absurd add-ons (like a $500 "restroom fee in case someone clogged it"), I knew something was off. We stepped away and were told our deposit would stay on file indefinitely and could be used toward rentals later on. Every time I tried to use that deposit for rentals, I was told they were "fully booked." Most recently, while planning my baby's 1st birthday, I reached out two months in advance through Instagram. The responses I got were inconsistent, unhelpful, and completely unprofessional. When I asked for a phone call, I was told they couldn't call me -- but I could call them tomorrow. I tried calling multiple times with no luck. After that, I started reading other reviews and realized this pattern has been happening for years -- I wish I had done that sooner. I've since posted my experience anywhere that allows reviews because people deserve to know what they're getting into. To make matters worse, someone from the company actually replied "LOL" to my BBB review instead of addressing my messages or refund request. That response says it all. It's clear this business uses personal stories and sympathy as part of their tactics. They cancel on people last minute and refuse refunds, hiding behind a "credit only" policy even when it is their fault. This has been happening since 2020 and has ruined many special events. If you try to speak up on social media, they block you, delete negative reviews, and limit comments to hide the truth. They only treat influencers and people with status well. Me and My husband had our wedding at the commerce location a few weeks ago and it went...okay. I don't want to get on yelp to just bash a small business but I am just going to be honest about our experience. I'll start with the positive. The venue was decorated beautifully and our day of coordinator Dylan was AMAZING! he made the day so much easier. They did a really great job at that. However, we did have issues. Reviews are correct about communication being terrible. Once they took our deposit, we would have to wait days or even longer for response after multiple attempts on our part. At one point, they only responded to us after my husband refused to make the monthly payment since they would not call us back. was this annoying? yes but somewhat understandable. the big issue was the food. DO NOT CATER WITH THEM! I repeat DO NOT CATER WITH THEM! Idk if its just a vendor but our contract was signed with the The Rustic and Chic Co. so it's on them. For context, we paid for food for 150 people and we only had 120-130 people at our wedding. We chose to do pasta and salad because I'm a picky eater and we figured it would be filling for our guests. Wrong. Not everyone was able to eat and the people that did eat were served a pasta portion that was smaller than the palm of my hand (and I have tiny hands). As soon as I was served my plate, I was immediately mortified. I don't understand how anyone thought that was an appropriate portion to serve to anyone. I wish I took a picture it was so bad. I received a portion smaller than when we did at the tasting! (I swear I'n not even exaggerating). On top of that, people found hair and plastic in the pasta (including the groom). We ended up having to order 25 pizzas because not everyone ate and the people that did eat were still hungry (understandably). They offered to pay for the pizza's but ONLY for the people that didn't get to eat. It was honestly very embarrassing and ghetto. It was our job to feed our guest for coming to celebrate us. its the bare minimum and we made sure to pay for more food than was needed to ensure everyone ate and they dropped the ball BAD. You're looking for a venue on a budget, this can be a good option, but just don't get the food. (Also, something to consider they have an F rating on the Better Business Bureau.) read more

This venue is a complete disaster. From the start, there was confusion with the booking dates in July. On the day of the Sweet 16, the food went bad, the Maruchan station wasn't even fully set up (no condiments), and micheladas were only served for about an hour. The designated contact people we signed up were ignored and the photo booth opened late. Then the party was suddenly shut down, supposedly because the band was "too loud." That was a lie. It was actually due to the venue not having the proper permits, which local authorities confirmed. The owner, SANDRA, had known about this issue since February and still chose to take money and ruin someone's once-in-a-lifetime event. In the weeks leading up to our event, Leslie was absolutely amazing. She made sure we had everything we needed for our drinks and was always so kind and helpful with any last-minute questions. I especially valued our phone appointment where we reviewed the full timeline--it helped everything feel real and organized. I was lucky to have her working on the day of the event too--thank you, Leslie! We also had Dillan as our day-of coordinator, and he was phenomenal! I met him at our rehearsal, and right away I could tell he was experienced and on top of everything. He guided everyone smoothly, explained the timeline, and handled every detail with confidence. One thing I will stress is communication and how important it is with the company. If you have a vision or have changes or questions, there's always an answer from a staff member. They're busy Friday-Sunday most weekends so it's easy for your question to get caught up. On the week or two of your event, the focus is on you and your event. Prior to that they always answered my email, text, or returned my phone call. Patience is key. My set up and my bouquet were all amazing! Day of coordinator was really on it and kept me stress free. Horrible My daughter booked this place venue El Monte rustic chic last year on November 2024. This lady has been renting the El Monte location without having license to run as a Venue . Long story short they cancelled my granddaughters sweet 16 a week before the day of the event. This was a very special sweet 16, a celebration of her life. My granddaughter was diagnosed when she was 6 with a rare and incurable cancer. We had to look for a new venue because the city of El Monte shut them down for not having the proper license to run as avenue. . They refuse to give us our money back. They gave us $3000.00 back out of $9800.00. They stopped answering our text and refuse to pay us the balance. Be aware they did this to allot of family's. They are having financial problems so that's why they can't give any money back Or they are most likely THIEFS. Just be aware bad business. I wish they would have give us back the money that they owe us before We serve them with law suit. They have a venue in commerce that they must be renting out. please be mindful before you rent this venue because they can claim bankruptcy at anytime from all the law suits and money they owe family's. So don't book The commerce location until they pay all there previous customers back you might loose all the money you have given them as a deposit. With all the law suit they might have to claim bankruptcy. Be careful before you do business with rustic chic for El Monte or commerce location. I was able to pick a package for my beautiful daughter that would help my budget but as the day got closer, I need it to make changes and add new things, I'm not even up to the last minute I was able to add more lights, the staff member that helped us that night. I will start out by saying this is a beautiful venue which is why it's getting the 3 stars. The rest of this review is for the unprofessional manner Sandra conducts herself. We had a Quince here and 3 days before the party we had issues and unnecessary stress from Sandra with the cater we wanted to use because they were at their food tasting event. I assumed because I reached out on behalf of my mom to confirm we have a cater for the event less than a month before the event. Anyways Sandra took offense to that and was putting my mom in the middle of her pettiness. The venue is trying to cut out any third party to come in and provide services. They only allow their bartenders and the day of the event the bar wasn't opened until after 6 when it began at 5. The drinks sucked they didn't have a clue on what they were making. Someone from the venue isn't really there the entire time so you have to figure out what to do with things. We had desserts we weren't aware that were ours until an hour before the event ended so we paid money for things that were not utilized because of lack of staff day of. Overall beautiful venue but it did feel like Sandra was retaliating towards us for not using only her services. Which I think was a waste of money and if we're using a venue and paying money you should be allowed to use the people you want. Just feels like she's wanting to make money only for herself and her staff by providing the most unique venue with the most basic add ons to fill her pockets. Would definitely advise people coming in to be very firm on what you want and who you want to use and be mindful that she does seem to play games when it's not fulfilling her pockets. My family and I were having an amazing time , not letting little things bother us such as owners not following thru and owner being rude and strict .We had no problem .It wasn't until our party was shut down early and we were lied to about us being too loud. We then had to further investigate ourselves only to find out that it was actually due to lack of permits on their end for a party our size . Mind you we booked this place for 250 people and we only had about 200 guest and left extra tables empty for more space . They do not have permits . This isn't how a buisness should run. I was searching for a place to host my daughters baby shower and a friend referred me here. The planning was with Sandra. My first appointment I got a tour of the venue and gave it a shot. That day I had put my down payment to hold my date. On this day I was given a packet with a paper that gave us the prices and the timeframe on this for it states the timeframe which is 2-9pm out by 10pm. This is what was discussed at the first appointment. On my second appointment Sandra said the timeframe and stated we had to be out by 9pm. We went back and forth and at that moment I didn't have this paper at hand and let it go. The timeframe while I waited for the shower even up until the same day I didn't hear from Sandra which made me nervous. I think a call maybe the week before to just confirm all is in place would have been nice and would make the customer feel better. The day of the event I was very impressed! They made all look so beautiful and it all went so smooth! Sandra left her son who was there to help with anything and let me tell you he was amazing! He was helping me with setting up the speaker and band. My guests were raving at how it all turned out so beautiful. The reason I put a four star was because at the end we had the issue again where we had to be out by 9pm and I brought it up to Sandras son. He was nice enough to let us stay until 9pm and be out by 10pm. We all didn't stay that late. I was done and out by 9:20pm. This sheet/contract should be updated. Another thing is I purchased a wood sign with Sandra that would be my Grandsons name. It was not there which is sad because I was looking forward to it and giving it to my daughter. I just let it go because after reading the reviews I figure I won't probably ever get it. My honest opinion I am looking for a venue for my wedding and thought to myself let me see how this goes so I could use them for myself. unfortunately, I won't come back.
