If you're in the mood for poor service, this is a great place. We were seated on the patio where the fans were not working. Then had the wait staff take our order. 45 minutes later we got most of our food, but still hadn't gotten the first drink refill. At the one hour mark, my buddy got his sandwich. Looked identical to the one that was sitting uneaten at another table. We got his sandwich to go and finally got our tea and lemonade refills. At the hour fifteen mark the manager arrived and comped the meal and handed out gift cards. I applaud her for that, but too little to later for our group of 6. Oh yeah. The sound check had Michael Jackson's Beat It on loop and highest volume for about 15 minutes straight. And lest I forget, the waitress mixed up Rustic's menu with her other job's menu. But hey! We went for brunch today, and it was a mixed bag. It certainly has potential and has a lot going for it, but value and service were lacking. We got there at about 10:30. It wasn't busy at that point, and I'm glad we got there "early." Business picked up quickly, and our parking spot was highly coveted by the time we left. Parking lot was at least half valet; I self-parked. We had a handful of people coming, and they let us go ahead and grab a table outside even though no one else from our party had arrived yet. Much appreciated. It being early and not yet busy, service was good and our water and tea arrived quickly. The huge patio area is awesome - loved it. The rest of our party arrived and we ordered brunch. There's one option: brunch. It costs $17/person and is served family style. This is where the experience got... less great. Not enough food for $17, especially given that I showed up hungry. Now I'm not a bruncher. I came to see old friends. So maybe wee meals are standard at brunch. But for $17... not good value. Maybe I can tell myself I paid extra for the experience and ambiance. The band that came on around 12-12:30 was very good - the Bodarks. So no cover... sure, $17 was okay. But I was hungry, and it wasn't much food, really. Ah, caveat: if you don't want brunch, the only options are... a burger... or a salad. No other breakfasty stuff. Now the food WAS awesome. Man, very tasty. Mini french toast, quiche, crackers and cheese, sausage, bacon, mini donuts, fried chicken... it sounds like a ton of food, but they were all like mini appetizer plates. Bottom line: don't come too hungry and you'll probably enjoy the tasty food and a good band. The service was pretty awful after business picked up. That part is inexcusable. A place this cool with this much potential needs to have better service. Our drinks ran dry multiple times. I might give it another shot, but I'd definitely show up early and I would eat a little something at home first. I'd go for music and atmosphere with some "appetizers" on the side - or I'd try the burger. Two other thoughts I forgot when I first wrote this: - Casual dress really means "dressy casual" or even business casual. This is definitely a venue full of pretty, well-dressed Dallasites. I was told very casual and I felt under-dressed. Lots of "nice jeans" and Aviators. - We brought our 3-year old son for brunch, knowing others in our crowd would have their kids. And there were a LOT of kids on the day we went. Big patio and lots of running room, so was kid friendly for brunch / lunch. If you're not a big party don't even bother on a weekend night. We waited around for over an hour for a table only to have them sit multiple large parties before us despite them being in line behind us or showing up well after us. When we were finally called we waited to get to the host stand only to have a large party push in front of us. The hostess then had us follow her with that same large party to their table and make us wait around while they pushed two tables together for their large party. Clearly it was going to be our table but they pivoted and put the large party there instead. Finally after the large party was sat they took us to a dirty table and said somebody would be there shortly to clean it, I guess expecting us to just wait around and hope somebody showed up. When we said no we wouldn't be waiting, they offered another table that was dirty too. Despite there being multiple tables open we kept getting sat at dirty tables because they were apparently holding the open tables for large parties and didn't give a fvck about the two party that had been waiting. If you're going to come here come with a big group or wait until during the week because weekends are not good for date nights here and apparently not in their wheelhouse. read more

One of my favorite spots in Dallas. The brunch is huge and so yummy! The menu makes it sounds like each item is separate. But it's all Included in the $18 per person, so you get a little variety of everything. Avocado toast and donuts were my favorite but honestly all of it was good. For dinner and lunch, you can't go wrong with the pork chop or the burger. Get a drink like frozen sangria or margarita and enjoy the live music! read more

We arrived on a Saturday at 5pm and the place already had a line out the door - crazy! We were actually waiting to sit and eat at a table but it appeared most of the people were either outside standing around or inside standing around, would not say it was the best place for a nice dinner with people you actually want to talk to. The place was VERY loud, we could barely hear our waiter and the bar area was very hard to get around in (not to mention, I couldn't help but notice - ONLY males around the bar area - I guess that's Texas for ya.) Saw some kind of awkward/weird/inappropriate actions between bartenders but that's a different story, bar service wasn't supreme either. Did enjoy the long list of beers, however I tried to order a margarita (that apparently had organic ingredients) but tasted like sweet and sour mix only, it was also the only margarita they could make. The two things that really made this a 3 and not a 2 are the atmosphere and the food. That place is SO COOL inside! I couldn't stop staring around, loved the wood in the lobby especially. The outside patio was a dream, would love to come back when there are less people to really enjoy it, can see it being great for a summer day. There was also a live band planned for that evening, but we only heard one song and they didn't return to the stage again - can see the live music thing really bringing people in. Also, with how many were there at our table, we probably ordered everything off the menu and at least 4 appetizers and 2 desserts. Everything was great. The chips were my favorite part... I ordered the Crab melt and it was OK but everything else looked good and the appetizers - even the cactus! was supreme. Loved the dipping sauces. Another thing that bothered me a little, many of female waitresses had their hair down while serving food, seems unsanitary. CLASSY, BUT NEVER TRASHY. The Rustic is your saloon-styled, upscale bar, music venue, outdoor picnic, sports bar, day club kind of place. This place invented "dress-to-impress," as its patrons come in dressed beyond casual and more towards business-casual. Expect to come in a dress shirt or dress, but don't expect much bar action. This place keeps it classy, but never trashy. There are large TVs on the inside of the bar showing football games and a music venue outside. Always lively and exciting, packed full of Texans looking to quench the weekday thirst. Parking is sometimes impossible, even with valet. The place is always packed, so except a long wait time for your beer and calf fries. And now, the food. The Food: CALF FRIES AND CRAB QUESADILLAS. Calf Fries: MEATY FRIES, BUT THEY'RE NOT FRIES. Fried to golden brown perfection with a deep crunch, these calf fries are well seasoned and salted. Perfect to soak up and accompany beer and whiskey. The outside is deep-fried, while the inside is soft, moist, juicy, and meaty. The calf fries themselves have a consistency like tofu, with the taste of seasoned chicken fat. I highly recommend sharing them with some friends, they can get too flavorful. At a certain point, the calf fries seemed too soft, juicy, and pinkish on the inside, so I felt that they were a little undercooked (-1 star). There was a milkiness that was unforgiving. Note: If you haven't figured it out or don't know, calf fries are bull testicles or in layman's terms...BULL BALLS. Crab Quesadillas: HOPE ITS NOT FRESH FROM THE GULF... What's better than a quesadilla? Throw a crab on it and you get a fiesta! The crab quesadilla featured gulf crab, cheese, baby spinach, Niman Ranch bacon, topped with even more cheese and chives on a flour tortilla. The sauce was a sriracha aioli, which packed a creaminess and a slight kick to add another dimension to these quesadillas. Overall, the flavors worked as an appetizer, but won't fill you up as a meal. My only concern was that half way into a quesadilla, you seem to run out of topping and end up with a lot of topping-less quesadilla tortilla (-1 star). NOW SAY THAT 5 TIMES FAST. Overall, I would've liked more topping to balance out the bland tortilla or for them to add some kind of spice or flavor to enhance the bland flour tortilla. Have you ever just eaten a plain flour tortilla? Don't want to revisit that nightmare. The Verdict: THE RUSTIC, A DALLAS STAPLE. Overall, The Rustic is the perfect stage, venue, bar, meeting place, social gathering, weeknight getaway, whatever you want it to be. It is always packed with people and energy, but getting your order and drinks may take a long time: BE PREPARED FOR THE WAIT. The music at night really awakens the inner Texan. Parking is tough, valet parking is available, it'd be better if you carpool, take a cab, or take DART over here. Overall, the food options don't really fill you up and are mostly to share with others and drown out the alcohol. But if you want a place that displays the Big D at full force on the weeknights, you know where to stop by: The Rustic. read more

I came to The Rustic a few weeks ago on a Friday night and it was packed. There was an hour wait for a seat, which is probably due to the patio area outside not being used since it was so cold out. I think the inside is different from what is normally seen in Dallas, so I'd have to appreciate that. The décor does indeed have a rustic feel to it. I also like where they have the stage situated for bands to play. I forgot the name of the band that was playing when we went, but the music was good. We ordered a few beers and didn't end up staying too long since we got kind of tired standing. I will definitely check this place out once it warms up. I think it'll be a great warm weather place to hang out at. read more

This place is what a New Yorker would consider 'Texas', I LOVED it! I went with two colleagues early evening for apps and drinks. Beer comes in goblet style glasses, they have a WIDE selection of beer on tap as well as bottles. A country band was warming up for an event that evening, would have loved to see their full set. During the warmer months their outside area seems awesome, picnic tables and heat lamps. Unfortunately it was snowing while I was there (This NYer cannot escape the snow!). I love the Rustic, I'm surprised I haven't reviewed it before! I've been several times for brunch, lunch, dinner and late night. What I love is the vibe - the decor is so Texas and there's indoor/outdoor seating. I always bring visitors here because it works for friends, coworkers, large or small groups. The drinks are great and the service is good. They often have live music and both indoor and outdoor stages have good views and acoustics. The only thing that isn't top notch is that the food selection is somewhat limited - I wish they had more options and changed it up a bit. But for hanging out and meeting up with people it's a perfect spot - buzzy but good for all ages and fun witihout being so loud you can't hear each other. The atmosphere is awesome here, especially the patio out back! They also have a large indoor bar that is great when you're waiting for your table. Their frosé was so good, and it had a nice kick to it! We started with the Texas Goat Cheese (YUM). It was a big hit all around. I had the Hot Chicken and Cheese sandwich, and it was SO GOOD. My boyfriend and I came tonight. He's been here before and raved about the food, but it was my first time. To preface, I don't think either of us will be back. Service was slow and the waitress' conversation was glaringly more important than serving her tables. She also made us feel pressured to get drinks which we did not want. All our dirty plates and empty cups remained on the table our entire stay. As for the food, the cactus fries were great, and so was the double queso. My boyfriend got the beer can chicken; the presentation and flavor were good. I got the bacon Chile grilled cheese. It wasn't very warm and the cheese inside was not melted. I also ordered the side salad with dressing on the side, but I recieved a wet salad with extra dressing on the side. We were going to order dessert, but we couldn't get our waitress over to order, so we decided to just skip it and get our check. She passed us 3 times with check in hand before actually handing it to us. We were more than ready to leave. Servers were honest about being new, and were friendly. Beer arrived in a reasonable time to the table, and deviled eggs and chips and queso were good. We arrived at 5:30pm for happy hour, and our beers were supposed to be $5 but when the bill came out they were $7-8. We asked about this and upon realizing they made a mistake, the manager at rustic said the drinks were on them, which was nice! Didn't like that we had to pay $2 extra for chip refills. Great Sunday Funday venue, and pretty much any other day of the week. Ample indoor and outdoor seating, and at certain intervals love music is played. The lead singer is damn good. Ordered the Moscow mule, which was not only refreshing but had a nice kick to it from the ginger. We then decided to try out the massive frozen margarita with a sangria swirl with a sangria popsicle. One bowl concoction that serves 3 drinks. We could not stop enjoying the Popsicles, which comes in all sorts of flavors: mimosa, margarita, strawberry daiquiri and sangria. Food, there's plenty. Their home made fries are a perfect crispness and not greasy at all. I highly recommend the rocky mountain oysters. I had never had these before but they are perfectly battered. Their buttermilk dipping sauce compliments these little nuggets of goodness very well. The steak fajita meat was cooked perfectly. The mango hot sauce is a must. We also tried the burger with some pulled pork, cooked medium. The carne empanadas are deep fried like Cuban empanadas and tasted alright. Lastly, the jicama and avocado salad is a must try: refreshing, healthy and crispy with enough creaminess. Andres, Brittany and Raphael were amazing hosts and servers. We got married yesterday and celebrated our first night out as Mr. & Mrs. Baker! We sat at the bar and our bartender MJ killed it! She was so awesome, made recommendations, got the special of the day, the ribs and also the ribeye! Delicious!!! Seriously mouthwatering. Then she treated us with their famous peanut butter pie since it was our first time there. Not only did she take care of us, she slayed the bar top taking care of several people at once! The burger is amazing but don't expect tons of pulled pork like I did because it will only disappoint - add more meat on the already huge Burg already will you guys!!?? I cannot wait for the weather to get a bit warmer so that I can come here once a week. The large bar and huge "backyard" as they call it is amazing for a lazy afternoon or casual dinner. I love how you can see directly into the kitchen (which spans the entire side of the restaurant) as well as the stage which is open to both the backyard and inside dining room.
