My wife has been a half-dozen times, but last Saturday night was my first visit and I wondered how this almost 50 year-old gem had escaped my culinary delight. The cocktail menu is diverse and unique. I took our excellent server's (Kayla) recommendation and had the Bryan St Martini, which is a gin-based martini with a a lemon stuffed olive topped with black caviar. My wife had the Spiced Pear 75, which she loved. Since they are cuisine francaise, our table started with the escargot bourguignon, which has the typical six snails, but instead of butter+garlic+herbs, they were in a cream sauce and then topped with more escargot on top! The complimentary bread (and butter) served when we sat down were perfect to top with escargot and dip into the cream sauce. Our dining friends order the beet carpacio salad and we had the champagne-brie soup. After one spponful, I told Kayla that dish alone is worth another visit. My wife had the duck a l'orange and I had chicken roulade. For dessert, we split a bananas foster souffle, which requires 20 minutes prep time, which Kayla perfectly timed after we ordered when our entrees came. I had had this reservation booked for several weeks after reading raving reviews! Upon arrival, I was very impressed with the professionalism of the staff and how we were greeted. We were quickly shown to our seats and immediately brought waters and bread. We each had two cocktails from their booklet menu and they were delicious! You have to order every course at the same time so we were given some time to look over the menu before ordering. We started with the Escargots Bourguignon and the Shrimp St Martins. The sauce that the shrimp was sitting in was TO DIE FOR. The escargot came in a sauce as well but the shrimp sauce was so good I was dipping the escargot in the shrimp sauce! Then out came the Champagne Brie soup- it was my favorite thing I had. I could've easily licked my bowl clean. For the entree I had the Rack of Lamb and my partner had the Seared Sea Bass. We both honestly weren't impressed by either. They were just good, not great. It probably didn't help that we had waited too long for our entrees. Unfortunately, our entire dining experience lasted 2 hours. I appreciate a nice meal that's not rushed... but the time between courses was honestly ridiculous. My date and I had an incredible experience at St. Martin's Wine Bistro. The ambiance sets the tone immediately. It's dark, moody, and effortlessly romantic, with a live pianist playing throughout the evening. It's the kind of place that feels intimate without being stuffy, perfect for a date night. The service was honestly some of the best I've had in Dallas. My water never dropped below two sips from full, the team was that attentive. The food absolutely delivered: * Shrimp St. Martins - Five jumbo de-veined shrimp in a rich, butter-like sauce that was decadent without being overwhelming. * Frisée Aux Lardon Salad - Rene thoughtfully split this tableside and served it onto individual plates. The dressing leans heavily Dijon-forward, so order accordingly if you're not a mustard fan. That said, the bacon was some of the best I've ever had: thick, slightly sweet, and perfectly cooked. * Sea Bass Ratatouille - Served over a tomato sauce, it was flavorful, well-balanced, and not too heavy. * Rack of Lamb - An extremely generous portion (which I happily helped my date finish). It was boldly seasoned and on the saltier side, which I personally loved, though I understand that may not be for everyone. * Affogato - A simple but perfect way to close out the meal. Apparently it's a Dallas staple restaurant, having been around for more than 44 years, but it is now in a new location as of 2024. Starting from the moment you walk in you are enveloped in a very moody romantic French bistro. Just inside the front door you are greeted by the hostess. There's also a live piano player who plays live music at just the right volume. Tables are covered in white tablecloths with glowing candles. The booths are especially cozy! Quaint bistro and piano bar with a clear French influence from the décor and menu to the service attire. We made a very last-minute reservation and were greeted by name when we arrived. Somehow the entire restaurant seemed to know it was my daughter's birthday and her name, which was such a thoughtful and personal touch. It was late, so only a few tables were occupied, and we essentially had the piano bar to ourselves. We ate, laughed, took photos, and sang along with the piano, feeling completely comfortable and never rushed. Service was prompt and attentive. Justin gave us plenty of space while still anticipating exactly when to clear plates or bring out the next course. Justin's recommendations were spot on and he took great care of us. Portions were larger than expected for a French bistro, and we even had leftovers. The mussels were fresh in a delicious garlic sauce and paired perfectly with crispy fries. I was so looking forward to my first visit to St. Martin's and was so disappointed. I ordered Red Snapper from the Restaurant Week menu and it looked like two pop tarts on top of each other. The single bite I took was dry and unappetizing. The Almond Ball for dessert was delicious and turned out to be the highlight of the dinner for all. Altogether, our party of four spent around $400 (the others ordered from the regular menu) and no one was impressed by the quality of the food. It's always a good time at St Martin's when you're looking for an elevated cocktail and food experience. It's one of the most beautiful spaces in Dallas. I've posted them many times but needed to share some recent photos from two separate evenings. Photo #1 is a delicious Espresso Martini (nice pour) and photo #2 is a classic Vieux Carre. This was our first visit at the new location, and the experience was almost identical to those at the old Greenville spot, in all the best ways: 1. The decor is amazingly like the old place, so much so that it felt like the old restaurant as we entered. Same piano player, layout, and warm welcoming vibe, lovely. 2. Outstanding service experience, with everyone from the valet parker, manager, waiter, and water/bus guys providing engaging, attentive service. 3. Five star food- we had the gnocchi with winter veggies (one of the best gnocchi dishes we have ever had), champagne brie soup, onion soup, and mussels, and each of them was flawlessly executed. The house bread was hot and delicious, and our red velvet cheesecake was top notch, moist and flavorful. Tried this restaurant out for fun even though we live outside of 635 still less than a 30 min drive and well worth it. Located on east downtown it's a newly renovated building with exposed brick and dark interiors. Super well decorated. The feeling is cozy but fancy enough to feel like a romantic special night out. The bar is large L shaped with plenty of room. Make reservations but if you get there early likely they will fit you in. The piano is live and 7 days a week. Made a reservation for Friday at 5pm and it was the perfect time slot. The restaurant wasn't busy and it was quiet. You were able to have a conversation without yelling over people. The tables are close together so this spot isn't intimate in that regard (depending on the time you go). They have someone playing the piano and the ambiance is dark. We ordered the shrimp appetizer which was fantastic and then the salmon as the main course. Salmon was bland and didn't have any taste to it. If I come again, it would be for drinks and an appetizer. I couldn't finish mine because it was a little too heavy for me, but still tasty! The halibut was the real showstopper for me. Crispy on the outside and perfectly tender inside, it was just divine. Very comfy, dark, relaxing ambiance. The tables were set to perfection and the decor was immaculate. Unfortunately the service and the food fell short. While we always had our waters refilled, we had to wait quite a while to get our cocktail orders. Our table ordered wine, which was good, a whiskey sour that was baseline generic, and an old fashioned that was also generic and just checked the basic boxes of an old fashioned. Additionally, we had to place all our food orders at once as opposed to ordering appetizers then entrees. We ordered the "special" duck tortellini and crab cakes for appetizers. The crab cakes were very bland and fishy (not fresh) and lacking any seasoning what so ever. The tortellini was 50/50 at our table, half of us loved them and the other half hated them. For entrees i ordered the venison steak, it was also very bland and lacked any seasoning, the salt level was non-existent. Our table also ordered the fillet steak that was lacked any seasoning and somehow managed to cook a disappointing fillet. Though it was tender that was all it had going. Out of the entire meal the bread and mashed or "puréed" potatoes were the only highlights. For the price point St. Martin is charging i at least expect some salt to make it on my dish but unfortunately they rely way too heavily on their sauces to carry the dishes and it was apparent on the final plate that came through with great texture and a perfect cook that was bland, flavorless, and under seasoned. Lastly, when we got our check we asked them to split it as we were with some friends and they said it was ok but then went behind the bar and seemed to be talking it over with other staff while looking back at us as if we shouldn't have asked them to split it. I don't see any reason to go back when there are so many better options. read more

Three of us went on 10/23 to celebrate two birthdays. We started at the bar with a $10 martini and the shrimp appie ($15) and bread for sauce dipping...yum! We moved to the dining room and each had a soup - my friends each had the French Onion and I tried their signature soup, the Champagne Brie. Both were good, however cool - not hot at all. We alerted Rene, our waiter, and he quickly fixed it offering new soups or desserts. We went for two chocolate soufflés (holy cow!). Back to our main courses - my friends split the pepper-crusted KC Strip au poivre with green pepper-brandy sauce and pomme frites. They loved it and the steak was perfectly cooked. I had the Tournedos Rossini - a petite filet sliced in half with foie gras, brioche, black truffle demi sauce and whipped potato. OMG TDF and for me, enough for 2 meals. Perfect at medium rare. Note - they have fabulous sauces and excellent bread - worth the real butter and sauce dipping. DELISH! Service was excellent at the bar (Taylor) and in the dining room (Rene). All other staff were friendly and efficient...it is obvious that everyone takes their roles seriously. The ambience is old world Paris elegant and charming. When I went on a Friday night there was a live piano player that was playing throughout our meal. The decor has an old school vibe. The food I thought was okay, we ordered the steak and scallops.
