My date and I had an incredible experience at St. Martin's Wine Bistro. The ambiance sets the tone immediately. It's dark, moody, and effortlessly romantic, with a live pianist playing throughout the evening. It's the kind of place that feels intimate without being stuffy, perfect for a date night. The service was honestly some of the best I've had in Dallas. My water never dropped below two sips from full, the team was that attentive. It became amusing (in the best way) how on top of everything they were. Our waiter, Rene, was outstanding. He provided stellar recommendations from starters to entrées, drinks, and desserts. I trusted him enough to let him choose my glass of wine to follow my cocktail, and he nailed it. He also walked us through the menu in detail, which was incredibly helpful as first-time guests. The food absolutely delivered: * Shrimp St. Martins - Five jumbo de-veined shrimp in a rich, butter-like sauce that was decadent without being overwhelming. * Frisée Aux Lardon Salad - Rene thoughtfully split this tableside and served it onto individual plates. The dressing leans heavily Dijon-forward, so order accordingly if you're not a mustard fan. That said, the bacon was some of the best I've ever had: thick, slightly sweet, and perfectly cooked. * Sea Bass Ratatouille - Served over a tomato sauce, it was flavorful, well-balanced, and not too heavy. * Rack of Lamb - An extremely generous portion (which I happily helped my date finish). It was boldly seasoned and on the saltier side, which I personally loved, though I understand that may not be for everyone. * Affogato - A simple but perfect way to close out the meal. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant! A friend of ours introduced it to us and we have loved going back and back again! Apparently it's a Dallas staple restaurant, having been around for more than 44 years, but it is now in a new location as of 2024. Starting from the moment you walk in you are enveloped in a very moody romantic French bistro. Just inside the front door you are greeted by the hostess. There's also a live piano player who plays live music at just the right volume. Tables are covered in white tablecloths with glowing candles. The booths are especially cozy! If you are looking for a romantic dinner spot this is your spot! The service here is on par and the food delicious! Somehow the entire restaurant seemed to know it was my daughter's birthday and her name, which was such a thoughtful and personal touch. It was late, so only a few tables were occupied, and we essentially had the piano bar to ourselves. We ate, laughed, took photos, and sang along with the piano, feeling completely comfortable and never rushed. Service was prompt and attentive. Justin gave us plenty of space while still anticipating exactly when to clear plates or bring out the next course. Justin's recommendations were spot on and he took great care of us. Portions were larger than expected for a French bistro, and we even had leftovers. The mussels were fresh in a delicious garlic sauce and paired perfectly with crispy fries. This was our first visit at the new location, and the experience was almost identical to those at the old Greenville spot, in all the best ways: 1. The decor is amazingly like the old place, so much so that it felt like the old restaurant as we entered. Same piano player, layout, and warm welcoming vibe, lovely. 2. Outstanding service experience, with everyone from the valet parker, manager, waiter, and water/bus guys providing engaging, attentive service. 3. Five star food- we had the gnocchi with winter veggies (one of the best gnocchi dishes we have ever had), champagne brie soup, onion soup, and mussels, and each of them was flawlessly executed. The house bread was hot and delicious, and our red velvet cheesecake was top notch, moist and flavorful. Located on east downtown it's a newly renovated building with exposed brick and dark interiors. Super well decorated. The feeling is cozy but fancy enough to feel like a romantic special night out. We celebrated our anniversary yesterday by going to one of our favorite places in Dallas. St. Martin's Wine Bistro is a life changing dining experience! Because yesterday was also Anthony Bourdain day, we celebrated by trying a food we had never tried before: Steak Tartare! Oh. My. God. It was luscious and divine. We enjoyed the Shrimp St. Martin-poached shrimp in a delectable beurre-blanc sauce. Of course, we had to share a bowl of my love language: Champagne and Brie Soup. There aren't words for the moment you sip your first taste. Your eyes roll into the back of your head as you savor the explosion of flavor. For entrees, I had the Sole Meunière. Seared perfectly in butter and the only place outside of France that has done this fish justice. James had the Scallops and Pork Belly. It was a new spin on surf and turf. Judging by how little he spoke to me during his meal, I am assuming it was fabulous. He did give me a bite and the scallop was prepared perfectly and was probably the best scallop that I've had in DFW. The restaurant sent us over 2 glasses of house-made bourbon crème for our anniversary. It was similar to Baileys, but on steroids. For dessert, we walked back over to the bar for after dinner drinks. James enjoyed a glass of Abelour Scotch neat. It's his favorite as it's not peaty at all. Jamie, the bartender, made me the best espresso martini that I've ever had! Fresh espresso mixed with espresso liqueur, reposado tequila and bourbon cream. She hit the top with flame to settle the bubbles in order to add espresso beans. Made a reservation for Friday at 5pm and it was the perfect time slot. The restaurant wasn't busy and it was quiet. You were able to have a conversation without yelling over people. The tables are close together so this spot isn't intimate in that regard (depending on the time you go). They have someone playing the piano and the ambiance is dark. We started with their famous champagne brie soup, which has been on the menu for 45 years! It's rich and super creamy, so be warned, it's a bit much if you're sensitive to that kind of thing. I couldn't finish mine because it was a little too heavy for me, but still tasty! The halibut was the real showstopper for me. Crispy on the outside and perfectly tender inside, it was just divine. The lemony cream sauce was the perfect touch, adding a light citrus zing to the rich cream. We also tried one of their steaks, which came topped with black truffle and foie gras, drenched in a rich, mouthwatering red wine reduction sauce. It was seriously amazing! Very comfy, dark, relaxing ambiance. The tables were set to perfection and the decor was immaculate. Unfortunately the service and the food fell short. While we always had our waters refilled, we had to wait quite a while to get our cocktail orders. Our table ordered wine, which was good, a whiskey sour that was baseline generic, and an old fashioned that was also generic and just checked the basic boxes of an old fashioned. Additionally, we had to place all our food orders at once as opposed to ordering appetizers then entrees. We ordered the "special" duck tortellini and crab cakes for appetizers. The crab cakes were very bland and fishy (not fresh) and lacking any seasoning what so ever. The tortellini was 50/50 at our table, half of us loved them and the other half hated them. For entrees i ordered the venison steak, it was also very bland and lacked any seasoning, the salt level was non-existent. Our table also ordered the fillet steak that was lacked any seasoning and somehow managed to cook a disappointing fillet. Though it was tender that was all it had going. Out of the entire meal the bread and mashed or "puréed" potatoes were the only highlights. For the price point St. Martin is charging i at least expect some salt to make it on my dish but unfortunately they rely way too heavily on their sauces to carry the dishes and it was apparent on the final plate that came through with great texture and a perfect cook that was bland, flavorless, and under seasoned. Lastly, when we got our check we asked them to split it as we were with some friends and they said it was ok but then went behind the bar and seemed to be talking it over with other staff while looking back at us as if we shouldn't have asked them to split it. I don't see any reason to go back when there are so many better options. read more

Three of us went on 10/23 to celebrate two birthdays. We started at the bar with a $10 martini and the shrimp appie ($15) and bread for sauce dipping...yum! We moved to the dining room and each had a soup - my friends each had the French Onion and I tried their signature soup, the Champagne Brie. Both were good, however cool - not hot at all. We alerted Rene, our waiter, and he quickly fixed it offering new soups or desserts. We went for two chocolate soufflés (holy cow!). Back to our main courses - my friends split the pepper-crusted KC Strip au poivre with green pepper-brandy sauce and pomme frites. They loved it and the steak was perfectly cooked. I had the Tournedos Rossini - a petite filet sliced in half with foie gras, brioche, black truffle demi sauce and whipped potato. OMG TDF and for me, enough for 2 meals. Perfect at medium rare. Note - they have fabulous sauces and excellent bread - worth the real butter and sauce dipping. DELISH! Service was excellent at the bar (Taylor) and in the dining room (Rene). All other staff were friendly and efficient...it is obvious that everyone takes their roles seriously. The ambience is old world Paris elegant and charming. On the recommendation of a friend, we went here on a Saturday night to celebrate a special birthday for my partner. It was bustling, which I hoped would mean this place would live up to the expectations set for us by several friends. We had reservations for 7:00, but were immediately set at the bar to wait for around 20 minutes. We were set right by the bar which was very loud. (I should have requested a quieter table, but feared we would be asked to wait again.) The piano music was nice and tried to drown out the loud bar. (It worked - somewhat.) The waiter was friendly, but seemed very rushed and was not very attentive. He also had a hard time hearing us over the bar and piano. The service was surprisingly quite slow and the food was not as good as what we'd anticipated. The champagne brie soup was the best part of my meal. (Delicious!) The fillet was not impressive and my partner's first bite of his ribeye was fat. Also my food was not very warm, as if it had been sitting a while before it was brought out. I tried one of their specialty cocktails of the evening that was some kind of riff on a Vesper--nice enough and interesting--but next time I'll probably stick to a regular martini, which they do so well. I wish they offered the option to serve the salad after the entree and had a cheese course on the dessert menu. (Truth is they'd probably bring salad or cheese at whatever juncture you asked.
