Everyone was so welcoming, friendly, and attentive, making the experience feel extra special. The food was fantastic! I went to JW Steakhouse for a business dinner. Silly me didn't realize we even had a JW Marriott in Dallas. Anyway, while the space is beautiful there were significant drawbacks. We had a cocktail reception in the bar and the bartender put us on the backside of the bar to keep us out of the way, but they had a swinging door for the bartenders to exit the bar and the constantly were opening it into the reception area and being put out that we were standing where they asked us to stand. On to dinner they had us in a room with a heavy curtail pulled over the opening, it worked well to isolate the noise, but the food was not aligned with the prices. I had eaten poke earlier in the day at another restaurant so was ready for more as an appetizer at JW. This ahi tuna crudo didn't have the best taste and while I won't say it wasn't fresh, I won't say it was either. I ordered a steak and it was ok but in a city where we can get great steak, this was not in the top 30. They at least validated valet parking. read more

We were staying at the JW Marriott and went here for our anniversary dinner. The restaurant is located on the 11th floor of the hotel. We had stayed at JW before and had breakfast at Montage, but we never had dinner there. The ambience is upscale, modern, and attractive. Great views of the city. The restaurant is sleek and comfortable without being pretentious or sterile. Our server Adela was friendly, professional, and efficient. She absolutely added to our wonderful experience. The food: the kid had her usual spaghetti with marinara sauce and liked it. I tried a bite and sauce was not acidic or bitter. The wife started with burrata and basil and loved it. It was a generous portion that probably could be an entree. For the entree, she ordered the lamb shank and loved it. The meat was flavorful, tender, and juicy. The portion was large so she had left overs for the week. I started with the beet salad and really enjoyed it. I would preferred more beets and fewer greens, but the salad was good. The beets were perfectly cooked, not overdone. There was a goat cheese puree underneath that married perfectly with the beets. For the entree, I had the center cut filet. It was not inexpensive, but it was an anniversary dinner so what the heck. The steak was well seasoned and very flavorful. It was cooked perfectly to the medium I requested. It was a very enjoyable piece of meat and the quality was outstanding. Overall, we loved our meal. We were more than satisfied with our choice. Will never return... The only reason I am giving this review any stars is because we went for Valentine's Day 5 Course Meal and not their regular menu; therefore, the experience might not be completely reflective of the normal meal. Unfortunately, it was so terrible, that neither myself nor my husband can stomach trying it again... For nearly $400, we had the worst meal of our entire lives. Course 1: LOBSTER AND BURRATA CREPE chicory was cold and the pastry was hard as if it had been sitting out for hours. There was little to no flavor. Course 2: CORN BREAD WITH HONEY BUTTER seasonal compote was also room temperature. The best part was the butter and compote. The bread was dry and underwhelming. Course 3: COGNAC AND CELERIAC BISQUE root vegetables, beet and orange oil, potato chip This course was probably the best part of the whole meal. The majority of it was cold, and the bisque was on the colder side; my husband thought it was cold, I thought it was room temperature as well. It had a nice creamy flavor and was one of the larger portions. Course 4: BRAISED LAMB AGNOLOTTI WITH LOBSTER BISQUE lemongrass xo sauce, fried sage Honestly, the smell of this put me off so much I couldn't eat it. My husband ate both and admitted it had a very gamey flavor. Lamb is usually my favorite type of meat. However, the smell of the fish was reminiscent of a pet store, and it was making me nauseous. Course 5: 72-HOUR SHORT RIB smoked carrot puree , onion panisse, celery, golden sauce The potatoes were like cold hash brown like blocks. The short rib was tender but fatty. It was lower quality than the catered short ribs people receive at a wedding. Not flavorful and very dry. Course 6: OPERA CAKE The main flavor was cold. In short, we will not be returning to this restaurant. It was incredibly overpriced, and the food was the worst I've ever had. Also, we had to wait about 30 minutes past our reservation to be seated, and 10-15 minutes between each course. An absolute beautiful restaurant with a gorgeous view. If you're staying at JW Marriott, I recommend you do brunch here. We absolutely loved it. I came in looking to get the duck breast which they happened to be out of. He came back to deliver the bad news but was ready with a solution. He offered me the Chefs special. Something not on the menu. 1/2 lb Rock lobster tail 1/2 lb Gouda grit cake with Iberico pork cheek and a bed of sautéed spinach with lemon aioli. Jonah, the chef really outdid himself. This dish paired with the house Brussels was on point. Made me realize that we often don't know what we want until we've had it. I did skip the desert but ended with a double jack neat. I tell ya, the ambience was chill and the evening was kind of slow which let me and Brandon have some nice conversation about what a beautiful place Dallas is to visit. So besides good food, great service, amongst a pleasant ambience, he suggested riding a free local trolley "M-LINE". Best to check their schedule for your self but as I understand it, you can sight see, bar hop, cruise around town and all for free. Margaret's is located on the 11th floor of the JW Marriott hotel. My fiancé and I went to Margaret's for dinner. I didn't research well enough to know that it's not on the first floor, so you get a pretty skyline view (especially loved it on the moody, rainy day we were there). First, I will say service is top-notch. I really enjoyed everyone from the bartender recommending a unique drink, to our server who felt like a new friend, to the manager who proactively took care of all of our needs. We tried the "cornbread high tea" which is actually called Acknowledge the Corn. It was a fun experience where you slather cornbread slices with different types of butter (truffle or honey) and homemade preserve, a refined pork spread, or pimento cheese. You also receive complimentary biscuits, so we ate our share of carbs . We then shared the smoked Texas short rib for two and crispy Brussels sprouts. It was really good. Drink-wise, I had the Old Western and my fiancé had the Sippin Fireside. He enjoys all whiskey drinks and smoked, but he was so jealous of my drink. I found the service to be of quality and our waitress was attentive. For drinks, I spent my time with Strawberry Lemon Drops and they were wonderfully made by the bar. I ordered the Charred Pawns as an appetizer and it was delicious! Definitely left me wanting more. For my entree, I ordered the Jumbo Sea Scallops and I thoroughly enjoyed this dish as well. It's our last day in Dallas, we found this gem on yelp. We didn't expect it's that fancy! We were kind of underdressed, but thank god still appropriate. This restaurant is in JW Marriott. The whole building was new and fancy vibe. It's at 11/F and it had a good view of downtown Dallas. It wasn't busy on Tuesday night and we got seat immediately. We got ribeye steak, jumbo scallops and Brussel sprouts. I asked the server "what's grits?", and she only said "it's gritty" so yeah my husband and I had no idea what are those. And sadly I did not like it. It tasted like oat meal mix with baby food? And added with Gouda cheese, it made the whole texture and taste very heavy and I could only have couple bites and that's it. It Lowkey made me hard to swallow it more after a couple bites. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and I loved those pulled pork on the dish. The steak was cooked perfectly also, and it had that special charcoal flavor, the potato was so yummy and soaked in with the butter flavor. The brussels sprouts was a must get! As others have noted, this restaurant is on the 11th floor of the JW. There is definitely a hotel premium attached to the prices, but on the plus side, due to the isolated location, it isn't terribly busy, at least for lunch. Smoked Wagyu Brisket Tacos: 5/5 At $18, this is assuredly American "wagyu" not the real stuff. A bit drippy, but quite tasty. Would recommend. Crispy Chilean Sea Bass: 4/5 This beer battered Chilean Sea Bass is a take on fish and chips. I quite enjoyed the fish, but wasn't terribly fond of the chips or the slaw. Overall, our meal was quiet and pleasant, and the server at the table did well. Still, I do have a few nits to pick here: 1. It isn't at all obvious how to get here. If you walk into the JW and ask for Margaret's, they will show you to a special elevator which goes only to the 11th floor. 2. On the lunch menu, entrees are grouped together with sandwiches as there are very few non-sandwich options. I'd really like to see those separated for clarity, and potentially a few more entrees on the menu. I enjoyed what we had, but there wasn't enough to pique my interest for a second lunch visit here. 3. The greeter wasn't at her post when we arrived, so we were seated (correctly) at our reserved table by the waitstaff. The next day I open my e-mail to find that the restaurant reported me to OpenTable for not attending. Very odd, since we were seated at our reserved table. It's nice to see that down town Dallas is starting to slowly come back! 5/5 food, we started off with the Crispy Octopus - was very tender and had a nice crispy light fry to it. We then had the smoked pork rib - it's was definitely for two, the portion was enormous, very tender and moist. I would highly recommend ordering the Brussels as a side dish it as extremely crispy and tasty. 5/5 ambiance, overlooking down town Dallas. Great place for a romantic e dinner with your significant other. I recommend going when the sun starts to set due to them raising the shades so you can see the full skyline. 5/5 service - our server was very helpful and answered a lot of questions being our first time. This restaurant hits ALL of my foodie buttons! My fiancé and I visited this past weekend and were completely blown away! The ambience is absolutely amazing. I enjoy the dim lighting and the intimate conversations that were going on as I walked in this past Saturday evening. It's not overpowering or uninviting. As I passed by a few tables all I could see was everyone gazing lovingly at their menus or enjoying their bites of food, I KNEW right then I was in for a treat. Our server Brandon was EXCELLENT! He was so attentive and always made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our evening. He recommended great items to try....and the drinks were soooooo good! Every dish and drink was presented with a WOW factor that made me smile each time. I loved talking with the GM, he was so sweet and personable and we even walked out with a bag of sweet treats to take home. They're certainly making a name for themselves. My 1st time dining here was for a friend's birthday. The entire experience was amazing. So much so I didn't take not one picture so that I could come back and do it again. The manager mentioned that they had just started doing brunch on Saturday and Sunday. I could wait to return, so this Sunday after church we came back. I choose the French toast with the breakfast potatoes and pork sausage. My friend order the chicken and waffles which they loved. Mine was just ok I felt like the French toast could have been hotter but overall was good. The brunch on my opinion did not match the energy of the dinner. However the view was beautiful with the Dallas skyline felt like I was eating on top of the world. Overall this place is definitely one of my Dallas favorites. read more

Tried it based on online reviews only, and it was a pretty disappointing experience. Waited over 10 mins for the maitre d' before I went back and asked kitchen staff to please have somebody come out to seat us. (We were literally the only restaurant customers, but the bar area was packed.) The three of us in our party are pescatarian and were shocked to find that they had 3 seafood entrees but that 2 of the 3 had other animals in them. I have never in my life eaten scallops and thought to myself, "man, these scallops could sure use some pork cheek on them." There was only one true non-salad vegetarian option on the menu. We were given options of making substitutions to non-other-animal additives, but I hate not eating dishes the way the chef intended. We weighed whether to leave and go elsewhere but ultimately opted to take the dishes with substitutions. Food was pretty "blah," other than the appetizers we tried. Wait staff was good. For the price we paid for dinner and drinks, I thought the experience alone, would have knocked me off my feet. The only highlight to the evening was the view and Holly the server.
