What a delightful find! My mom recently moved to Nampa so I'm exploring restaurants in totally new neighborhoods. The Rustic Oven in Middleton is in the corner of a strip mall next to a very clean, organized Idaho Yourh Ranch. But back to the food... They specialize in sandwiches--hot and cold--and baked goods. Since my time with my mom is special, I go a little extra each time. So we started with a Nutella roll. Holy heck. It was amazing. Kinda like the best chocolate chip cookie you've ever eaten. I got one to-go for my daughter too. My mom ate half of her pastrami sandwich so she could have another treat! She picked out a Huckleberry cream cheese pasty. So good, but so rich. I enjoyed my roast beef hot recommended by the delightful hostess, Avah. Her pride in their many offerings was evident. We took home the rest of our sandwiches. But right when she got home, my mom wanted the rest of her pastrami. I know she was full but it was that good that she had to finish it while it was still fresh. That's quite a testimonial. I hate to write this review but someone has to because the owner needs to do some quality control. We loved this place, when it opened it was 5 star. Over the years it has gone down hill. The last few times, anything we tried seemed old. Dry Thanksgiving bread rolls, baked goods (cookies, scones, cinnamon rolls) that were not fresh. Today we tried sandwiches at lunch, noon on a Thurs. My ciabatta roll on the hot honey sandwich was the driest bread I've ever received at a restaurant & I'm not exaggerating. It was so hard it didn't move when squeezed. We called to let them know & the person that answered didn't apologize and only said "thanks". I don't know how a person could make a sandwich on that bread & think it was okay to sell to a customer. We live in town & likely will not be back. I hope the owner reads this review: please save your bakery. read more

I can't love this place enough - rustic interior full of small town charm, goodies to eat and goodies to buy for home. All of the breads are made in shop. The meats and sauces are pure quality. I especially love the hot turkey pesto sandwich - every time I get this delectable sandwich, the meat is perfectly heated, tender and lightly touched with pesto as to not be overwhelming. The ciabatta roll is fresh and a perfect complement to all the sandwich has to offer. Served with potato chips and a pickle slice, it's a filling and satisfying lunch. The prices side a little higher than a chain sandwich shop, but you're most definitely getting what you pay for here - locally made with pride. Always get amazingly friendly service that makes me want to come back more often than I can. It would be nice to get chip options and maybe a soda fountain instead of cans, but not enough of an issue for me not to go. We just tried this place today for the first time ...overall it was such a cute place! Customer service was friendly..... Smells like baked bread delicious and all baked goods looked amazing! I had the bacon breakfast burrito was awesome! And a piece of lemon poppy seed loaf to go! And my husband had the roast beef it was good but unfortunately he was specific with NO horseradish or NO mayo one of his biggest is mayo(doesn't like it on anything ) and both were on his sandwich.... we will be willing to give it a try again we are in the area once a month so hopefully the next go around it's better! My wife and I just moved from Southern Cali to Star. Today, we went out to explore Middleton. A short 10-12 minute drive for us without traffic, The Rustic Oven is located in the same shopping center as the laundromat we utililzed before our washer and dryer arrived, as well as the Idaho Ranch Thrift Store (another review). There were several young women working when we arrived. I'm sorry to say that I did not catch the name of the woman that seemed to be the manager/head baker. All of the staff were nice and friendly. Somehow the conversation shifted to lavender scones, one of my wife's favorites. The manager said that they could custom bake some for her. As the only other lavender scones we've found in Treasure Valley were at a specific Albertsons in Meridian or Eagle (we can't remember), my wife was thrilled. She ordered a dozen. The manager didn't even ask for any money up front. We also ordered some rolls (my wife's was cinnamon pecan and mine was berry) and they were delicious. In addition, they have a variety of other pastries and sandwiches available on their fresh made bread that looked wonderful (I had my eye on the Reuben for a future visit). We rented a house in Middleton few a few months while waiting for our house to be built in Star. This provided us with an opportunity to try out the local businesses nearby, many of them unique, non-chain attached places. One place that we continue to return on a regular basis is "The Rustic Oven". Rustic Oven is located in a small shopping center in Middleton (shared with the Idaho Youth Ranch store among others) just off the main drag through town. There is a small but very cozy seating area that could probably accommodate 10 diners. The staff is very welcoming as you enter and you are faced with much of their baked offerings behind glass counters. They have a small area dedicated to small, locally sourced/created items for sale - honey, jams, jellies, artful jewelry, etc. A really nice touch that adds to the local feel of the entire business. We continue to patronize The Rustic Oven for their rustic loaves of bread. Specifically we love their artisan sourdough loaves. Have tried the jalepeño cheese version, the plain loaf, and the sourdough loaf. Each is fresh and makes for wonderful sandwiches at home - additionally the resulting toast made with their bread is exquisite. There are also mutliple other baked items - both on the savory & sweet front - scones, cinnamon rolls, etc. We have enjoyed their sandwiches as well many times. Never disappointed enjoying lunch here. The sandwich selection is creative and well-thought out. Something to meet any preferred taste. Recently I ordered a breakfast burrito. I am really picky about my breakfast burritos - have to say I would gladly order this one again. Went with the sausage version - bacon is also offered. Proportionally the ingredients (eggs, hash browns, sausage, cheese) were nicely balanced. What really stood out was the cook on the hash browns - could not have been done better - not crunchy but rather cooked through and nicely melded with all the other ingredients. A winner. There are multiple lunch offerings here. The selection of sandwiches is very creative and tasty (tried several). Their reuben is really good. Beyond their menu board listed sandwiches, they also promote an employee-invented sandwich special on a rotating basis - fun! They also plan to do the same with their in-house baked cookie selections I hear. I have to spologize for the lack of representative pictures here. As we do return here often, I endeavor to catch a few goods shots soon! The staff is incredibly nice here and will make you feel welcome. Highly recommend The Rustic Oven. read more

We just finished our Thanksgiving meal with family. I had to jump on and share the opinions of everyone that tried to "blackberry pie" we purchased from the Rustic Oven. My daughter suggested I go back to a frozen Marie Calendar's pie or a frozen Willamette Fruit growers frozen pie from Albertsons. There were no berries in the pie and the crust was stale and worthy of the garbage can. The berry filling was mainly gelatinous with an occasional berry seed. Middleton's own local bakery- you can smell the deliciousness from the parking lot! The orange roll ($4) was sweet and tangy and freshly made. Very good! Grilled cheese ($4) was on sour dough and comes with a choice of provolone, pepper jack, cheddar, and American. You can choose two. Crispy and delicious, good small sandwich for a kids lunch or to go with something else. The Monte Cristo sandwich ($9) comes with egg dipped bread, ham, Swiss, powdered sugar and jelly for dipping. Not as crispy as I had hoped, the egg dipped bread was a bit floppy- but it was tasty nonetheless! We will definitely be back to try more- I'm interested in how the berry roll would taste. They rotate through different rolls, breads, and scones seasonally- so depending on when you stop by they may have a different selection. They also have a food truck with pizza that I have yet to try- check out their social media for locations and events. Stopped in for lunch at The Rustic Oven. What a wonderful shoppe. It has a very warm homey feel to it. They have all sorts of baked goods for sale. You should not go home empty handed! I ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup. They give you the option of choosing two cheeses for this sandwich. I chose cheddar and Swiss which is always a good combination. Other options were Parmesan and pepper jack. It is served on their signature sourdough bread, which is awesome. It was just what I wanted. The tomato soup had a wonderful flavor and of course was complimented by dipping my sandwich into it. They do not have a lot of menu options as they change the menu frequently. Which I think is nice. SO GOOD! They offer a limited sandwich/salad menu in addition to their breads and sweets, but WOW! Absolutely delicious! We ordered a Honey Chicken and a hot Turkey Pesto and both were amazing! The Honey chicken is a cold sandwich and when you first bite in you get that strong sweet flavor and a bit of crunch followed by a little kick. It had so much flavor and was the perfect size. The Pesto Turkey was also extremely good and hit the spot - the only downside was it was a little on the smaller side. Then, as we were sitting there eating our lunch, we looked over to see all the sweets. There was no way we could leave without a couple sticky rolls and a couple cinnamon rolls. Forcing the employees to pool all tips received for her to decide who will get a bonus and where to spend their hard earned gratitude.
