"The most unassuming little home of heavenly prime rib. " Their new nickname of course. Lol From beginning to end, everything was lovely. I was in town for a work trip, and overheard some of my coworkers talking about this place. Immediately, I added it to my Yelp bookmarks. Our first impression was "Um, are we in the right place?" But as soon as we open the door, we were greeted with a huge smile by the welcoming, pleasant host. Our waiter was extremely attentive as we chose to get "post-work stress relief drinks" (wine and beer) lol. I ordered the prime rib, medium, with loaded baked potato and asparagus. The entree also came with a house salad. My coworker ordered the crab cakes appetizer. First, the prime rib was cooked to PERFECTION! If you have read any of my other reviews, you know that this is a sticking point for me. Everything else was just icing on the cake. My coworker said she was pleasantly surprised at how delicious and fresh the crabcakes were. I actually had never seen crabcakes that were deep-fried, being from New Orleans. I also, inadvertently sacred the staff into thinking I didn't enjoy it, be it that I had to take most of it To-Go. Sorry, Guys! Went there for dinner, sat down and looking at the water glass which was extremely cloudy, which is a sign of chemical that hadn't been rinsed off, silverware was the same, opened the menu and the was old food smeared In menu. We left without eating, if all this was dirty I wasn't taking a chance that the kitchen was any cleaner. So sad that these things are restaurant 101. These conditions don't represent the Ruth's chris prices, heck waffle house is cleaner. I'm expectations for a restaurant for a place that will cost 200 bucks for 2 people is very high and every part of this place doesn't show its worth that. This restaurant should really be 5 stars! Yelp has never disappointed me while traveling when I pick a restaurant and this one surpassed every expectation. After reading the reviews I was looking forward to a family run restaurant and descriptions written of their great steaks. I ordered the petite filet and was not disappointed! It was cooked to med rare perfection as if it were a perfect prime rib roast -that's not easy to do, and I've been involved in the restaurant biz since the early '90s The salad with warm bacon dressing and Huge sweet potato were amazing too. And they were almost outdone by the delicious small boule of warm sourdough bread that arrived at your table with the water :) Kudos to the father daughter team who are delightful hosts as well as servers. I've eaten at The Rustler several times over the last year and it has been consistently excellent every single time. Every aspect is truly fantastic. I usually order the petite filet, which is always cooked exactly the way I requested, and is delicious. I recently ordered the lemon pepper grilled salmon and it was perfect. The drinks are great and the service is always top notch, too. Really enjoyed this place. Nice food, service, and atmosphere. We were well taken care from when we entered. Started at the bar, nice bartender, quality drinks. Lovely lady, Miss De, greeted us there. Very impressed by the father and daughter team that run the restaurant. Their attention to moving the folks through and recycling the tables was great. Last night of a 10 day Road Trip,headed back to Dallas, and found myself in Meridian, MS on Steak Nite...Found The Rustler on Yelp and pointed the truck in that direction. Met Mark the Bartender who immediately set me up with a glass of cab and I was off! Mark suggested the Fried Green Tomatoes with a very tasty Crawfish Sauce over the Stuffed Mushrooms...Great recommendation and way too much for one person. Next I went with the House Salad...definitely try the Warm Bacon Dressing!For my entree I chose the NY Strip with Grilled Asparagus and Roasted Brussel Sprouts...I am not easy to satisfy in the steak department as l like mine Pittsburgh Cold- the guys in the kitchen were spot on and the cut of meat was as good as anything in ATL/DAL/NY- they absolutely out-kicked their coverage; one more glass of wine and it was time for the check (thought about heading to a casino, but the precocious Sims said the ride was perty rural and I decided to call it a night.) I love visiting family owned spots like this hidden gem! You would never know from the outside that the inside is serving a 5 star dining experience. The food made the 3 hour drive well worth the time! The sautéed crab claws are marinated in an incredible sauce that I wish I could bottle and take home. They serve enormous steaks for super reasonable prices that come with a salad, baked potato, and choice of vegetable. They also bring complimentary delicious, warm sourdough bread that we sopped in the decadent crab claw sauce. Semmes, our server, was also excellent! Her personality is so warm and inviting that you can't help but fall in love with the entire restaurant. What a fabulous gem of a restaurant in Meridian, MS. The food is stellar and the staff's service is unmatched! Semmes and her father Mike are just lovely. They roll up their sleeves and work alongside each and every person there at The Rustler. I highly recommend the house salad with the yummy raspberry vinaigrette, the filet mignon with baked potato and mushrooms and end on their famous banana pudding cheesecake which is scrumptious! Read the reviews and they were great so decided to pop in an give it a go. So glad I did! All of the service staff, I mean, all of them, were super friendly and very attentive. It was great service. We had the stuffed mushrooms (done really well) - not over baked, season and cooked just right! I got the ribeye which was cooked perfectly and my travel buddy got the surf and turf. Naturally we shared meals. His filet had SUCH a nice crust on it and the asparagus was cooked just the way I like it as well. To top off our meal, we had the bread pudding and some strawberry banana cream pie cheesecake. Individually they were both delicious but together... kapow! Amazing! The food was FANTASTIC!! We had the shrimp cocktail, it was served warm but wait the marinaded spices and slight twist on the cocktail sauce made a great combination. The Rustler is one of those places that's easy to pass by, we almost did. Had to check the GPS twice to make this was it. We had dinner for 10, they gave us our own room and two servers. The sourdough bread was warm and tasty.... don't pass it up. I started with French Onion soup, minus the cheese and bread, it was wonderfully tasty. My requirements for a good steak house are as follows. Prime Steaks, well stocked Bar, cozy atmosphere, and the type of customer service that makes you feel right at home. Well The Rustler in Meridian MS has got it all in spades. From the moment we walked in, till the minute we left, we were treated as family. Semmes and her staff went out of their way to make us feel right at home, and they did it without it ever seeming fake or contrived. True southern hospitality is alive and well at The Rustler for sure. The drinks were amazing and seemed to be almost bottomless, since we could never get half way thru before being refilled. I ordered the BBQ shrimp appetizer and my guest ordered the stuffed mushrooms. Both were cooked to perfection and piping hot. When it came time to order my entree, it was hard to decide. I only eat red meat about once a month so my choice needed to be perfect. I went with the 30oz Cowboy Ribeye and my guest got the Red Snapper special with the crab topping. My Riley was perfectly cooked. Had just the right amount of marbeling and not chewy at all. In my humble opinion a good steak never needs a steak sauce like A1. This one was no exception. Perfectly seasoned and super flavorful. My only issue was I couldn't eat it all. I guess I will enjoy the left-overs with some eggs tomorrow morning. My guest enjoyed his Red Snapper and even managed to clean his plate. This is a true achievement since he is super picky eater. I'm glad I found this place. It truly is a hidden gem. Don't let the outside of the building fool ya. The old saying..."looks can be deceiving" could not be any truer here. Well first of all let me say this is a diamond in the rough...Service is fantastic....Now let's get down to the nitty gritty here.... the salad and blue cheese dressing was superb. I'm guessing the dressing is homemade. Next the meal itself... I ordered the rib eye which is a first for me but wanted to really give this place a try... my Sweetheart ordered the prime rib... my rib eye was done perfect with a little extra fat. However my Sweetheart got a prime rib that was beautiful but cold as ice inside... what the heck?? No au jus or horseradish sauce was brought to the table or mentioned.... they did serve a delicious mushroom sauce. The vegetables were done perfect. So cost wise it is pricey.
