Since it was a little chilly, we opted to sit inside. The vibe was lively without being loud, which I appreciated. I have a hard time enjoying restaurants where it is difficult to carry on a conversation. We ordered coffee, and it came with biscotti, which was a nice touch. I was also impressed with the menu. It had some traditional breakfast and brunch items, but also several more interesting options that made it hard to decide. I finally landed on the Deviled Egg Toast, topped with pickle slaw and served with a side salad. I was not disappointed. It was delicious. There were four of us, and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Our server, Joanna, was pleasant, personable, and attentive. This was my first visit and I was mostly very pleased. The environment is very pleasant. Not too loud, which matters. Service from Alisha was great. Very, very good coffee. Now, the food. I had the bagel/lox and while it was tasty, it was too ornate, too complicated, with flavors which drowned the subtle lox flavor entirely. Sometimes less is more. My friend was content with whatever he had without deeming it anything remarkable. Breakfast for two came to $51 (incl tip), doubtless a sign of the times. I think I just had some of the best food I've ever had in Greensboro. Me and my friend were insanely hungry and decided to go here, it was both of our first times. I got their sandwich western style and I got it with the impossible sausage and for my side I got a mac and cheese. Everything was off the chain. Like insanely good. My friend got a breakfast burrito and apparently it's the best breakfast burrito they've ever had. My breakfast sandwich is one of the best I've ever had as well. I got their pomegranate ginger margarita as a drink and my friend got their orange chocolate espresso martini. Both were delicious! Emily was our server and she was very helpful and quick as well. Add Sage Mule to the list of places that I would have sworn I have reviewed at some point, but a recent visit made me realize that I have in fact not done so! The truth of the matter, is that this place is definitely a community staple, especially for brunch, that has the kind of reputation that you can only reinforce, it would be difficult to deny. Well loved and patronized, with a menu that makes you want to come back to try the next delicious thing. One thing I have a hard time skipping on any given visit is the biscuits and gravy. It's probably my absolutely favorite version of this classic, taken in totality against every other place I have ever had it. At one point, Scrambled did it just slightly better, but that time has passed. Sage Mule stands alone for having the most robust flavor in that sawmill gravy, topping a decadent and buttery biscuit. It's hard to finish just because it's so rich. It's an entree but, honestly, best used as an appetizer because everyone at the table will want a taste. This time, I was feeling more lunchy, so I went with their version of a double smashburger and got those cheesy grits on the side that are also to die for. Cheese overload, but no ragrets. When I think smashburgers, I automatically assume it's gotta be a double. This one, woulda been fine with a single! In truth, I don't really consider what they've done here a true smash, there's simply not that ultra wide crispy brown layering, but it's still a pressed burger... and a darn good one, on a sturdy flavorful bun with nicely grilled onions. On the weekend, just be prepared that it will be packed through the brunch hours, and that when you do get seated, it is a tighter fit than most places in town. And those are usually your own kitchens when you've got a live-in chef so-- The food is always fresh and locally sourced (see Neese's sausage ) as well as prepared with care and attention to flavor profiles. For instance the Buffalo chicken salad sandwich (pictured) was the right blend of Buffalo tang and Ranch creaminess. As always the fresh shoestring fries are crunchy, salty, and savory. Everyone there is warm and friendly, and the service is efficient and timely. My family and I recently enjoyed Sunday brunch at The Sage Mule, and overall, it was a great experience. We waited about 25 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad considering how busy it was. The service was excellent. Our waitress was personable and patient with us We began with coffees and juices. The standard coffee wasn't quite to my taste. My mother found it to be bitter, and I thought it had a unique flavor I couldn't quite place. It's likely a favorite for many, but it just wasn't my type of hype. I switched to an iced dirty chai (a chai latte with a shot of espresso), which was absolutely delicious. For food, we ordered a variety of dishes, including the chicken and waffles and several burgers. Every plate was well-prepared and satisfying. Quick breakfast review. We stopped at The Sage Mule while driving out to High Point University to move our son in for the fall semester. It's located in downtown Greensboro and there is ample parking on the street and the lot adjacent to the restaurant. The breakfast options have something for everyone. I went with the Bulgoggi Hash and it was delicious. My wife got an omelette with a side of fruit and our son just got a two egg scramble with bacon (no potatoes no toast). One of my newest obsessions in the Sage Mule's take on the McGriddle...truly with the trip. The combination of sweet and savory was spot on. The pancake is light and fluffy, the sausage had a nice sage flavor, the egg was fried well and not burnt and the syrup provided just the right level of sweetness. This sandwich combined with a well made cortado made for what I think of as a perfect breakfast...not to mention the great team, the people watching, and just the great vibe. We came here on a Saturday morning after enjoying a work Christmas party the day before. We started with the loaded potato soup and it was good. You definitely taste potato but it's really good with the bacon and cheese. The bulgogi hash was delicious and greasy. The potato's were cut to the perfect size and the ground beef chunks were delightfully delicious. The mule burger was really good. The smash patties were the perfect size so the bun coverage was great and the carmelized onions with the pickles and cheese was so good all in one bite. I only had a couple bites of the cornbread with the butter but it was really good. The hash was so much good that I saved half for the next morning and remade it at home on the stove. The staff members are quite friendly they had a variety of desserts when you first entered as well as free Wi-Fi for patrons. The indoor as well as outdoor seating was wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately only one bathroom was available so there was quite a long line. There are vegan options on the menu and they note that any item can be replaced with a few vegan alternatives. I opted for a impossible burger with no cheese or the sauce provided as it contains mayo. It was good and I have to say the pickles were great touch the fries were absolutely crispy. This was a great vegan option however I wish that they would add more vegan egg and cheese alternatives to the menu. I arrived at 8:18am on a Sunday morning to get breakfast on a date. This was my first time here and didn't expect it to be somewhat busy this early, considering they opened at 8am. We were sat promptly. Another staff brought us waters. Then a different staff told us they be right with us (in passing). The waiter, Eric, came back at 8:22am to introduce himself. My date wanted a mimosa but we were told no liquor before 10am on Sundays. We stayed with waters. We ordered around 8:25am ish. We both got the chicken and waffles with a biscuit and jam. We got the carrot slaw and pumpkin custard on the side. Our food arrived around 8:35am. My date stated: "The chicken is the best, then the biscuit, then the waffle". They added, "The waffle could be skipped" and that their waffle "wasn't even warm." They stated, "It was so dry when I took a big bite, I almost chocked." However, "The chicken was very good; it was the star of the show." My date noted "they had good music too". For me, I liked the waffle more than the biscuit. I like my biscuits soft and they were not. The jam was decent. It didn't stand out and I've had better. The waffles weren't as soft as I would've liked and without syrup or pairings, the waffle tasted plain and not the best by itself. I'm not a big pumpkin guy but I did try the pumpkin custard and it was fine. I would agree with my date that the chicken was really tasty, crispy, and seasoned. I was worried the pieces of chicken were going to be small, from the pictures I saw online, but they were actually decent in size. I noticed several parties with young children. They do have a kids menu. We finished and left a little after 9am. It had gotten very busy by then. Overall, it was a decent experience. read more

Yes I am one of those people who like a little coffee with cream & sugar! The menu itself is eclectic and I love how they use locally sourced ingredients. We ordered the frittata and the avocado toast, to share, as well as a side of biscuits. I need to share more about the biscuits. I've been disappointed by biscuits way too many times in the past at other restaurants, they were either too greasy, too dense, or too salty. I usually never order them when I go out to brunch at other restaurants, but this time I thought, "let me try!" Y'all, these biscuits were amazing! They were fluffy, light and had the right amount of buttery goodness. We had a side of homemade apple butter. I was so glad that I ordered them, as I could have just had biscuits and coffee all day long! The restaurant is airy and light, and they have outdoor seating as well! The space was very well decorated. Every turn you go there is something that will catch your eye. On to the food and drinks... I ordered earl gray tea and my sister ordered coffee. It came with a small plate of complimentary lemon/poppy seed (that's what it tastes like) shortbread or biscuits. Not sure what they were. I'm also not sure if that came with the tea or coffee... either way it was very nice & tasted good as well! Especially if we weren't expecting it. I ordered the avocado toast. It had all these combinations on it with a poached egg on top. It had chili crunch which gave it a good kick. It was delicious! All the ingredients just worked so well together. My sister ordered the blue plate special. Looked like a traditional breakfast platter, but I gotta say it sure did look picture perfect. Especially with the choice of plates they used! Since being founded in 2019, the Sage Mule has been a hit. I'm happy to see it flourishing and very busy! I've enjoyed their quality food, drinks, and pastries. They used to serve a breakfast plate with skirt steak and chimichurri that I still think about! Regardless, their Blue Plate Special is a must-try staple, the Mule Burger is scrumptiously full of flavor, and their biscuits are unrivaled. The Sage Mule offers locally sourced coffee that shines above many other local spots. I love that it's not the usual run-of-the-mill Sysco coffee. I can enjoy it both with and without cream and sugar. Plus you get a biscotti cookie with it, is there anymore to ask?? Don't sleep on their cappuccino. Their bread and pastries are made in-house and it's also made obvious by their superb flavor. I often enjoy their fresh chocolate chip cookies, and the biscuits inspired me to make my own at home. Definitely get their sourdough waffle with the fresh berries and whip cream too! Lastly, the ambience is excellent both inside and outside. This was a next surprise off the beaten path in Greensboro. I heard about it, so I had to try. The outside is warm and inviting with plenty of shaded seating in the front and to the side. The inside is similar as everything is cozy and easy to understand. The food was good too. I ordered the breakfast burrito with couscous and quinoa salad. It was nothing super fancy but tasty. I can definitely see why this was listed on the Top 100 Brunch Spots! I really enjoyed our visit to the Sage Mule. First, the atmosphere is very welcoming and vibrant. There are two separate outdoor patios areas with plenty of shading. Inside offers the regular 2 and 4 person tables as well as high top/bar style seating The restaurant can accommodate small & larger parties. They are pretty family friendly including a kids menu and unisex bathrooms with changing stations. They have a decent sized parking lot but there is also plenty of street parking nearby. Great staff provided amazing service. Now to the actual food. I started with the Chai latte. It comes with a Biscotti cookie. Both were great. For my meal, I tried the Blue Plate Special. Hot Honey Chicken biscuit and the chicken was fried to perfection... and hot honey was only slightly hot which was perfect for me. Sage Mule is an absolute delight! My fiancé and I visited the restaurant after church for brunch and it was amazing! The service was exceptional. Everyone was super polite. The ambiance was great, inside and out. You can expect a little bit of a wait but it's definitely worth the wait. We waited about 15 minutes. The inside and outside areas were clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were clean as well. We ordered the crab Benedict and chicken and waffles and neither of the items disappointed us. The food is excellent. The menu is limited but the items in the menu are delicious. Everyone around us were ordering their food as well. Every bite of the entrees were simply delicious. The grits were not my favorite but still very creamy. They had a tomato paste tase to them, not my favorite but the texture of the grits were great. We will definitely be returning.
