Absolutely my worst restaurant experience in my 28 years of living in Lexington. Our waiter was incredibly rude, slow and inept. Literally we were seated next to a party we happened to walk in with. They were served and paid their bill before our order was taken. We had to make repeated request, literally had to ask for bread three times, in order to receive anything. We could not even get our drinks served. We actually stopped another waitress in order to get drinks. Three people at our table ordered the seafood risotto. All three persons found it tasteless and found it palatable with a lot of salt and pepper. One of our party ordered the mojito special. The glass arrived half empty with the mint on top, said a garnish, certainly not muddled. When he inquired if the bartender had ever made a mojito before he was served a second try at the drink with no improvement. Overall, poor service, poor drinks and tasteless food! We stumbled onto this place after leaving a deserted restaurant downtown. What a gem! We were in luck as we did not have reservations. I had the red fish over butternut squash and sautéed spinach, delicious! My husband prefers vegetables so he got the vegetable plate. No longer a stumble, we will seek this out next time in Lexington. read more

We were waiting for dinner reservations down the road and walked around corner found this place. So glad we did, I'm a sucker for twinkle lights. We sat at the bar and had a cocktail and couldn't resist the "sexy chocolate cake". The bartender found out it was my birthday put a candle on it when brought it out and comp'ed it off our bill. Unless you want to pay $10 for 5 leaves of lettuce I would not recommend. I am all for health consious meals but this is just ridiculous. Go to bourbon and toulouse across the street. They will give you an actual meal, and have vegetarian options. read more

We went for lunch with our dog. All of us were welcomed, including a bowl of water and a biscuit for Fido. We had the burger and spinach salad and both were excellent. The salad had many yummy extras: fancy bacon, roasted root veggies, etc. The burger was cooked to perfection and very tasty. Their Old Fashioned was one of the best I've had, and I am on a personal quest to seek out the Old Fashioned perfection! Do not miss dining here! read more

The appetizer we had (shrimp and scallop fritters) was pretty good so we were so excited for our entrees. I was traveling through Lexington on vacation with my two young sons. We came by the Sage Rabbit. We ate out on the patio that was done very nice and inviting. I wasn't familiar with all the gourmet dishes listed on their menu, but with help from the staff that were very knowledgeable, we picked dishes that were extremely delicious and awe inspiring. From appetizers to the desert everything was delicious. Very reasonably priced for fresh prepared dishes. We got to meet the owners one which was The Gourmet Chef. Learn they use a lot of locally grown ingredients, herbs from their garden, and make the pasta fresh. read more

I come to Lexington often for business from Atlanta. Sage Rabbit was a terrific find, the staff do a fabulous job walking you through their farm to table menu. You get a full detailing of where the ingredients are sourced from, and the descriptions are so good it's hard to decide. They do not oversell or overhype... the entrees I have tried are excellent. The oyster appetizer was to die for. I think they're crazy to charge as little as they do... but I'm loving the cost value proposition. Will definitely be back. read more

We came here with a group and enjoyed the food but the ambience was somewhat lacking and our waiter was a snob. Despite his snobbery, the food was amazing - oysters were breaded and huge! They reminded me of chicken nuggets, lol. The scallops were moist and delicious. I ordered the chicken with mushrooms that had tiny potatoes with a white sauce which was phenomenal. I ate almost every bite. It was better than homemade unless you have a professional chef at your disposal. They don't really have a full bar which was disappointing. They only have a few craft cocktails and despite them making their own simple syrup, they couldn't make me a decent drink. I should note that I am also a very picky drinker although there are places where the staff genuinely tries to make me something I might enjoy and then there are waiters who stand there and offer no helpful suggestions. Unfortunately, our waiter fell in the latter category. I'd come again but sit in a different section so that I would have a better overall experience. read more

The Sage Rabbit has a KILLER lunch menu! I had the crab cake sandwich and a few of my friends got the burgers. It was WONDERFUL food with really reasonable prices. The beer menu could have been a little more extensive, but they had a full bar with a lot of cocktail options. We are just visiting this area for a collegiate competition and it was a very fun atmosphere and delicious food. The people are super nice and helpful. Highly recommend! read more

Would not recommend frequenting this establishment. Food was mediocre at best and severely overpriced and when coupled with sub-par service and an awkward vibe, created an overall frustrating experience. I got the skillet roasted rib-eye which was average and when paired with generic tasting sides left me desiring much more. Meat wasn't cooked to my liking and the piece of meat itself was extremely fatty and low quality, especially for the price! Service took forever and by the time my party was served I had lost interest in most of the food I was considering. Had to ask for silverware and was told that they were out of glassware at the moment when I asked for a water. Waiter was average at best, putting in the bare minimum effort for our table (only visited for our order, delivery, and the check). The biggest complaint I have for this restaurant is the experience and vibe inside. From the second we walked in it felt like something was off. The décor is tacky and feels like a sloppily put together hipster antique shop and there was barely anyone there for 6:30 on a Friday. I was expecting a classy, new-aged, modern experience but The Sage Rabbit could not have been further off. Lexington is a great city with many options for dining however The Sage Rabbit ranks last on my list. I recommend looking elsewhere or staying in and ordering a pizza. read more

This restaurant refused to serve drinks to myself and my fiancé due to difficulties with my ID (which is perfectly legal). It got to the point that management got involved and treated us horribly. With that being said, we still chose to stay and try the food (since we already ordered at this point) and my soufflé was burnt to a point of being inedible and my fiancé's eggs weren't cooked all the way through. Extremely disappointed and will never consider going back. Just upsetting all the way around. read more

If negative stars were available - I would be giving them. We came for Saturday brunch today. Were seated in a side room where we were ignored by our waitress. Coffee took over 10 minutes to get to us and my husband had to ask for it. My husband received the wrong order and once again our waitress did no return to us and he had to seek someone out (another 5 plus minutes). I should add when she delivered the food she stated she would bring more coffee and didn't. I have praised this brunch before but I will not come back. This is the first time I have eaten in the Chevy Chase area and treated as if I didn't belong...... I know they do not care about my thoughts.... but I WILL NEVER come back. read more

Excellent food, incredibly rude waitstaff. Every few months, I go out to lunch with a group of co-workers. Today, we unfortunately chose Sage Rabbit. I will admit that we made the mistake of making reservations for 15 people and 20 people showed. You wouldn't think that an additional 5 people would make a difference, but holy cow, it turned out to be a HUGE DEAL according to our waitress. The restaurant was not busy. There was one 2-top and three 4-tops in addition to our group. Our waitress mentioned no less than SEVEN times that our reservations were only for 15 people and that she was overwhelmed by the extra 5 people. She also told us not to expect our food to come out at the same time because our order was going to be too much for the kitchen staff to handle. It made me feel very unwelcome, like we were an annoying problem to take care of rather than paying customers. That being said, my meal was fettuccini with a garlic butter sauce, sautéed spinach, sun dried tomatoes, and shrimp and it was fabulous. It didn't taste at all like a meal thrown quickly together by a stressed out cook! :) When I asked for my check, the waitress AGAIN told me that she needed a minute because "it's hard to sort out 20 separate checks." Every single chance she got to mention that our group was large, by God, she let us know. I will never eat at Sage Rabbit again because of her rude attitude. The food was very good, the service was horrible. I'm confident that she scared off 20 people today. I would conservatively estimate that our total bill was $500.00. Rest assured, my group will never be another $500 annoyance at Sage Rabbit. read more

I don't know why the keywords for this restaurant include burgers and fast food! Maybe they have a burger on the menu (what restaurant doesn't?!) but that description makes it sound like a burger place and its def not! Nor "fast food". I found this place when I needed a quick lunch when in the neighborhood and the outside patio seating caught my attention. Really nice seating on a quiet street - hard to find outside dining in Lex. They had gazpacho, which is one of my favorite things to eat in the summer. I asked the waiter/bar tender what to have with it and he recommended the bread salad (it had a fancier name but I don't know how to spell that). Even though it sounded similar to gazpacho I got it anyway since it sounded light and fast. Gazpacho was great - I think I have the same recipe. Bread salad was less great, if only because it was about 80-90% bread, and it was like crunching through a bowl of croutons. The grilled vegys, especially the squash, that were in the salad were fantastic, but there were hardly any and the bread was hard and overwhelming, so the ratio was just off to me even though the flavors were good. Note: I've been back here a few times since then and everything has been delicious! Last night the fried oysters, spinach salad were perfection. Perfectly balanced salad, and both together were enough to call it a meal. I love that this restaurants isn't downtown or out at one of the malls. Just ate there tonight. Server was terrible. We came in at 5:45, which was not a busy time. Our order was misplaced and we didn't receive our food until almost an hour later. The server came by and told us there was a problem with getting the order back to the kitchen and didn't even try to remedy the situation. We had to go to the front to ask to pay our bill. Visited in Lexington,Kentucky for the Keeneland Fall Sale. Had the opportunity to dine at The Sage Rabbit. Had The chef Organic hen. It was so delicious I had to go back a second night for it!!! Very up on food allergies (which I have) didn't know many of the wines on the list but they let us do a little tasting until we found the perfect one!!! Everything extremely fresh and the restaurant is very cozy. Looking forward to returning. read more

Our group of six, all from different states here for a meeting ate here tonight. We were met by Brian our server, who treated us with humor and a real desire to make our evening meal a real pleasure. We started out with mushroom soup and/or appetizers, I had soup .....best taste ever. Then we all had different meals from the pasta, pork, beef to the fish special, again all 10 out of 10 we were sharing and loving it all. Then the deserts.. One gal had the s'more and we had a custard that was really something different from an initial sour taste comes a sweetness very unique but really good. Great atmosphere drinks and food. Our server said the chef is well known in town and they buy local fresh food. Anyway I can't say enough how this place greatly satisfied six very different pallets.
