One thing all of us mask wearers noticed was that the staff & servers were not masked at all, they didn't even have masks on them, & very few of the patrons coming & going had mask on either. Must be due to the geopolitical views of the people in the area. This concerned me & I kept my mask on the entire time except while eating since the staff were not masked & walking by closely and often. I won't let that factor into the review but it needs to be noted for others who look here for guidance. There were several drink specials & food specials made known to us by our server immediately & he was quick to fill our drink orders of mango habanero bloody marys & pontoon punch which are both highly recommend by our party. I ordered some fried pickles to split up & they are very different & exceptionally good. They are slivers of pickle spears fried in a manner that resembles fried green beans. Everybody raved about them & they were gone quickly. One order was almost enough to share for 4-5 people. Half of the party ordered club sandwiches & the other half ordered burgers & fish tacos. The fish tacos were stated to be better than Sams on old hickory & as good as some served on the Florida panhandle in PCB, Pensacola, Destin etc. the club sandwich was nothing to write home about, pretty basic & fairly bland. The Mac & cheese is well above average & could make the cut of the top 10 I've had in the middle Tennessee area. IMPORTANT NOTE. THEY CHARGE A 20% gratuity for parties of 6 or more. If I was on the lake I'd probably come back, I'd expect to see masks on the staff though.

For a locally owned business in a small community, I expected a greater focus on customer experience and hospitality. When we arrived for our 7:00 p.m. reservation, it was apparent there were several places where a vase of flowers could have been tucked away until we were seated. We also were not seated until around 7:20, did not place our food order until nearly 8:00, and did not leave until after 9:00. To be clear, the food was excellent. The quality of the meal itself was not the issue. What I cannot get past is that the staff was unwilling to accommodate a very simple request that would have helped make a once-in-a-lifetime milestone celebration feel truly special. The only solution offered was for me to arrive 10 minutes early with the flowers and balloons. Unfortunately, I was driving in from out of town, coordinating with my parents, dropping off my dog, and heading directly to the restaurant, so that was not feasible. My parents were disappointed, and honestly, so was I. This felt like a missed opportunity to show a little flexibility and create a memorable experience for loyal customers celebrating a remarkable 55 years of marriage. My mother-in-law's potatoes were not fully cooked, and her salmon was raw. Since all her food was not edible, they took it off the bill. So at least there's that. The green beans my mother ordered were also quite crunchy, which can be personal preference. I did not complain about my salmon, but it was undercooked as well. However, even if it were cooked, the lemon sauce makes it inedible. I order salmon at most restaurants and I have never tasted a more horrific sauce. I thought maybe I was being dramatic, so let everyone at the table taste the sauce. Every single one of them scrunched up their face and said "UGH!" It was described by my family members as "putrid, disgusting, rotten pudding, and having a strong iron taste." I have to agree there. When they put it on the table I thought the fish was bad, but it was just the strong smell of the sauce. So all the broccoli, salmon, and potatoes were undercooked... however everyone who ordered steak received it cooked way past what they had ordered. My husband ordered medium, and it looked close to well done. My nephew ordered medium rare, and it looked medium well. My husband's steak was still tender and tasty though, so he did not complain. His Brussels sprouts were decent and grits were very flavorful. My sides were mac and cheese and a salad. Those were both very good! The mac and cheese is in an interesting flavorful sauce. More creamy than cheesy, but I enjoyed it. The salad seemed pretty fresh with homemade dressing from what I could tell. Our server was nice, but did not check on us at all, and was only at the table to take our orders, deliver the food, and give us the check. The majority of us had empty drink glasses and would have wanted refills. There was an automatic tip of 20% on the bill because of the larger party, which was fine, but like I said, the service wasn't great since we didn't get checked on whatsoever. Overall, it's not the worst place I've ever been but it wasn't very good. You hate to go to a place that SHOULD be good, pay good money, and receive that quality, but we weren't going to sit there and every single one of us complain. Sometimes, you just have to eat a bad meal, laugh about it, and not return. The fact of the matter is there are much better places to eat in Cookeville with better food and better service, so we probably won't be back.

Only for the sake of my friends nostalgia.
