Extremely disappointing experience. Almost had ruined nails on my wedding. Before even booking my appointment or ordering the lacey nail foils, I showed the nail tech in person the exact product on Amazon, including the "How to Apply" instructions page, to make sure he knew how to use them. He looked at everything, told me he could do them, quoted me $55, and I booked the appointment weeks in advance. When I arrived for my appointment, I brought the foils with me and showed him again. I specifically asked if he knew how to apply them because they weren't sticky like regular nail stickers. He inspected them, said "yeah, okay," and confidently started working on my nails. Only after he had already applied the extensions and gotten halfway through the service did he suddenly tell me he didn't know how to apply the foils and that I needed a special transfer glue. My wedding event was two days later, and the salon was closed the following day, so I was left walking out with half-finished nails that looked incomplete. I was told to pay the full $55 anyways. When I explained that I shouldn't have to pay full price for an unfinished service, he told me it was "my problem" because I chose those foils and still insisted I pay the full amount. It was embarrassing to leave the salon like that. To their credit, the front desk staff was kind and sympathetic, and when I later spoke with the manager, she apologized and gave me a $20 credit toward my next service, which I ended up using for a hair appointment. I appreciate that gesture. However, it still doesn't change the fact that I had to pay another salon to finish my wedding nails because the technician failed to determine whether he could perform the service BEFORE starting. If he had simply been honest at any point before beginning my nails, I could have gone elsewhere or ordered the correct supplies ahead of time. That entire stressful situation was completely avoidable. I hope the salon improves communication so future clients aren't put in the same position. Mimosa nail salon in Commack was able to help me out 30 mins before they closed, their staff knew how to apply the foils and had the transfer glue, they saved my nails for my wedding, I was so grateful. read more

I had full highlights done by Catherine. I showed her my old pictures to explain exactly what I wanted and clearly said I did not want any grey tones. Before the blowout, she showed me the color and it was all orangish-yellow, so she toned it a second time. After the second toning, the color was still bad -- a mustard-golden shade. I asked her to get someone else's opinion because I was really unhappy with the result. She called someone from the front desk who said she wasn't a colorist and couldn't help. Then another colorist came over, and Catherine told her that I "didn't want white," which was not true -- I said I didn't want grey. I didn't appreciate how she tried to twist my words. That colorist said she thought my hair looked good, which I found unprofessional -- as a stylist, it should matter what the client thinks, not their own opinion. I told them I did not want to go back and forth -- I just wanted my hair color fixed properly. Honestly, Catherine did not seem to know what she was doing, and it made me question why she is even there as a colorist. Finally, they brought over a senior colorist (a Spanish-speaking woman), who was actually very helpful. She guided Catherine on what to do next, and after following her advice, they were at least able to tone down the orange-golden color a bit. During all this, I had to sit at the sink for a very long time, and my neck was hurting badly from waiting through multiple toning sessions It was my first visit, and I only found the salon through Groupon, but honestly, I would not recommend it. I have never been in a salon before where they try so hard to please a customer. From the minute you walk in, Kim at the front desk is so friendly and welcoming. On my second visit, I met with the manager Lauren. She is a soft spoken, very classy, and kind lady. Totally GENUINE! Rest assured she will make sure you are pleased. I had a wonderful colorist Danielle. If you bring in a picture she will match that color. She is a sweet and talented colorist. She takes her time and listens to what you really want. If you are fussy with your hair color she is the person to see. I also had the pleasure of having a beautiful blowout with a very sweet young lady Gianna. She did a fabulous job also. I was completely satisfied. I'm looking to returning to The Salon. It's a neighborhood gem! Truly horrible customer service by the Owner of this Salon. I'm' writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with my experience at The Salon. I spent $400 on a hair treatment that was supposed to smooth and eliminate frizz from my hair. Unfortunately, the results were far from satisfactory, and my hair remained frizzy even after the treatment. When I returned to the salon to discuss this, I was told by the owner that my hairs frizzy appearance was 'the way it supposed to look'. He said that it 'wasn't that bad' and if I 'just picked up a brush and hair dryer it would help'. Instead of addressing my concerns about the hair treatment, he was dismissive and unhelpful. His responses were unacceptable and I'm deeply disappointed by his dishonesty and lack of professionalism. As a customer, I expect transparency and fairness and what concerns me is how the situation was handled by the owner when I requested a refund. Given the significant amount I paid for this service, I believe I am entitled to a full refund and the owner denied my request. He made it clear a refund was not possible. On the contrary, as the actual owner, he simply CHOSE NOT to give me a refund. It's not that he couldn't; he wouldnt. What a terrible way to run a business. I recommend not visiting this salon given the many pristine options that the Huntington/Northport area has to offer! read more

I was recommended to Missie after having some unfavorable experiences at another salon that left me with a botched haircut and bad color. I knew I was in capable hands at my consult as Missie listened to what I wanted to achieve and explained everything that she needed to do to get me back to where my hair and color should be and that it would take a few cuts and color appointments. I really contemplated not writing this review because I really like Rebecca as a person and the people at Cactus Dix Hills and I used to be a very happy client when I used to only go there for blow outs with Rebecca. She does amazing blow outs. But one day, while my colorist from another salon was away on vacation, I needed some color help after the ends and sides of my ombré hair had turned green. I showed Rebecca a picture of what I wanted to do, which was JUST remove the green and brighten up the ends and sides a little bit. She emphasized she understood and was able to give me what I wanted. And I believed her. It turned out to be the biggest mistake of my entire life. I had never had a hair emergency until now. She absolutely destroyed my beautiful hair. Not only turning my super healthy, long hair into broken pieces of straw, but turning it several different shades of orange all over. My entire head was orange! The pictures I have would make anyone sick to their stomach. This is why I'm writing this, to warn anyone thinking of getting their hair colored with her to think twice so you don't end up like me. Had there been an honest review out there warming me I wouldn't have put my hair through the nightmare it's going through now. I actually was lucky that one of the top colorists in the entire country was able to see me the very next morning and correct the color for me (I have a trip to Italy scheduled for today so I only had 3 days to fix the problem). But now I don't have my gorgeous natural brown that has taken me two years or more to grow out, and I have straw-like quality hair that is totally blonde (something I didn't want at all). She set me back years and years, forced me into a haircut by virtue of the damage, and simply shocked my conscience when she still charged me $170 for ruining my life. And I paid! I was so out of it trying not to faint that I paid for this. If this salon has any decency they will send me a refund but you know what, I'm just happy to at least help one person not make the biggest mistake of their life too. The colorist who corrected my hair said that he couldn't do this bad a job even if he tried. It was incredibly bad. I almost fainted and was trying not to cry. I never regretted something the way I regretted this decision to walk in there that day. If I could turn back time I would never have set foot at this place. I'm so sorry I have to do this to you Rebecca, but you have no business coloring anyone's hair until you have more experience and training and until you learn to confirm what they want even when you think you know. What you put me through was horrific and to charge me at all was a very poor decision on your part. You knew how bad that was right away. It should have been handled differently. read more

I purchased a Groupon for a balayage and blowout before the Covid shutdown. They extended it through December. I admittedly tried to color and cut my hair during quarantine... Epic fail! I made an appointment to have my hair done last week. I knew I would need a single process (to cover my gray roots) and a good haircut in addition to my Groupon services. Stephanie was tasked with a difficult job and she was beyond amazing! She did a proper consult beforehand and made sure through the entire process that she was doing exactly what I wanted, yet with the ease and confidence of a skilled and qualified beautician. I could not be happier! In addition, I must add that the salon has a clean, comfortable, safe, and friendly atmosphere, and is practicing all safety protocols. Not sure if it's my hair or the product/too much flat iron on my part. Either way, it still looked beautiful, all night, for the wedding I attended. I went in for a gel mani and regular pedi. The polish choices were minimal. The one I did select was actually empty and dry??? I have never seen that. So I went with another color - whatever no big deal. The nail technician was barely paying attention to me and what she was doing. She cut my nails so short. She eventually tried to warm up with some conversation but interjected her very strong opinion into every topic we talked about. It was uncomfortable. The pedi was also awful. She cut those nails even shorter. My poor toes hurt for a while after that. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. read more

I had a groupon for a signature facial, Svetlana gave me one of the best facials I've had in my life--loved the products used and the massage. She didn't push products on me which was a big plus. I used to go here almost once a week, but the girl I used to see left abruptly and I've discovered that no one else here knows how to cut hair. I've given everyone currently working here at least one appointment and each time I've left almost in tears or in a screaming match because my hair was ruined, fried by a flat iron, or the underneath of my hair was left soaking wet because the girl was too lazy to finish blowing it out. Victoria - told her I wanted a shoulder length cut, got a crazy bob and she took a razor to the layer closest to my head so that there was an inch long fringe of hair on the back of my neck whenever I had to put my hair up. Took a year to grow it out. Maia - told her I wanted layers to frame the face, got a weird mullet-y cut with the top layer noticeably shorter than the bottom and had to dry my hair once I got home because the entire bottom layer was soaked. This girl is seriously dumber than toast. Had to wear my hair in a half ponytail for six months. Kim - don't bother telling her anything because she gives everyone the same haircut. Carrie - again, left my hair totally soaked underneath the top layer. Point being, if a girl you hate ever asks you where you get your hair done, send her here. This salon isn't just bad, it's epically bad. Monuments should be erected as testament to the profound abuse of hair that occurs here. In the years that I've gone here, I have had exactly two hairdressers that have given me a haircut that remotely resembles what I ask for. Never, ever again. read more

When I started to explain to her what I was looking to accomplish, she right away cut me off and started listing the things she can NOT do for me and told me even that she cannot cover grey hair! I do not have one grey hair and never mentioned it! Very unprofessional and rude! So I did not really have the chance to fully express what I am looking for. I went here to get a root touch up and everything came out great. Until I realized 2 weeks later that I was left with a bald spot. Ledy left on the bleach for too long, I expressed to staff that I literally felt the bleach and now I'm still trying to fix it but the hair is simply not growing back. She also overlapped the bleach which left me TERRIBLE BREAKAGE. Honestly will never be coming back here. To anybody looking to come here in the future for bleaching please reconsider!!!! I have been going to cactus for as long as I can remember. Now I am bring my 3 year old daughter to have her hair cut there. Kim and Jackie at reception always go above and beyond to try and accomodate my crazy schedule, and when you arrive for your appointment they are incredibly friendly, it's like going to visit an old friend. I am now getting my hair cut by Melissa W. She is excellent, and was able to get my 3 year old into the chair and want to come back.
