Stopped by this cafe after seeing some compelling videos online! The place itself is quite small, hard to find a place to wait for your order to be ready. A few notes: The flat prices are all for hot beverages, to make it iced the price rises (which is standard no complaint there!) my issue is they use a hot cup for iced drinks.... I just would have rather had a classic plastic iced cup especially with paying the difference. Another note, milk options are limited, whole, oat or pistachio. Again, standard is whole milk so choosing non-dairy milk can add on a few extra dollars. I got the Blueberry Latte with whole milk, which was pretty good, I felt like the blueberry flavor could have been a little stronger though. In my opinion, this cafe/market was a cool stop and fit the fun "Acadia" or "Maine" vibe I was looking for but I would honestly not come back. Bakery is outstanding. Coffee is a bit of a sh@tshow. Only one size for hot coffee- which is fine- but when one places an order for large... they should really say "we only have one size". Iced coffee comes in a larger looking "hot" cup... which confuses those ordering behind. A couple orders ahead of us were wrongly made/taken- and it upset the whole flow of the place. Even our order was taken by people ahead of us- which put our order out of whack. Small, quaint place.. some cute items to shop. Get here early for treats. read more

A nice little place out of the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. We had seen social media posts from Lexi making fresh pastries and had to see it for ourselves. The shop is in a tiny village. Unfortunately the pastries are made off site and the selection options were limited. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the coffees and party were great. read more

I heard about The Salt Market on TikTok and let me tell you, it lived up to its hype! It was for sure the most aesthetic and best tasting coffee shop out of all of the ones I stopped out on Mt. Desert Island. The merch and provisions are beautifully curated and the baristas were incredibly friendly. We arrived five minutes before opening and there was already a short line. There's nowhere to sit in the store, but there are some benches outside the shop. We had planned to grab coffee and pastries to take to the local shore, anyway, and it was a perfect morning! read more

The cinnamon roll was delicious and the store does have cute stuff. Ordered two cappucinos and neither one of us could have more than 1 sip. It was extremely bitter. Maybe it was couple bad espresso pulls but they were definitely not dialed in correctly. read more

A special corner of the world exists in Salt Market Cafe and their beautiful store of provisions, on the quietest main street in Mount Desert. Was hankering for a sandwich and luckily, was patient enough to wait for the kitchen to prepare a prosciutto with beurre blanc and cornichons on a baguette. So simple and delicious. I perched up on the bench and was likely an entertaining sight to see as I devoured it aggressively, only taking breaks to enjoy their homemade lemonade in between bites. I wanted to buy just about everything in the store, lots of local options and some independent brands from afar. It's clearly curated with intention and love. Would love to see more substantive dining options added to the menu (although the bakery options are all made in house, to my knowledge). Excited to come back to the area when the restaurant opens (Good Wolf). read more

On the pricier side, but this coffee was fantastic. Much better than anything we could find in Bar Harbor. And the neighborhood was so cute! My favorite was the Balsam latte - not too milky with a subtle piney/fall spice flavor. We didn't get a chance to try them, but the sandwiches and pastries also looked delicious. read more

The only decent coffee within a 10-15 minute drive but... a bit overrated. Our family loves coffee, from a simple cup of drip, cappuccinos, or lattes. Unfortunately the lattes were all overly milky, syrups were $2 and none of us could taste any of them. As we were waiting 2 other guests came back in also saying they could not taste any sort is strips in their drinks. Our maple and blueberry lattes tasted almost identical. Staff was decently friendly and it was very cute inside. Fun, modern, and coastal aesthetic. Just disappointed for $9+ drink. read more

Food: excellent. The most delicious hunk of salted Focaccia bread I've ever had in my life. In my life! The most expensive ($9) but still well worth it. Also, so big it lasted through the afternoon and into the evening. A Mocha Latte that was so rich. Even on an unusually hot May day, it was so good and the perfect accompaniment to the aforementioned Focaccia. Location: Right on Main Street in Northeast Harbor. So charming on a spring afternoon but I imagine it could get crowded during the summer. Parking is curbside in this delightful village that just gives you all the feels of a summer day the way summer days used to be, or we wanted them to be! Ambiance: they did fall a bit flat here, as the person who assisted me seemed a bit out of sorts and she clearly wanted me gone. The vibe was, "I know you're only passing through and you annoy me by having me wait for you, so hurry it up!" Minus one star. Otherwise, I'd have loved to be staying in Northeast Harbor and be coming here every day for caffeine, lunch, bakery treats- all of it. You'll love it, and want more! read more

We LOVED this place! Coffee was great, they do their espresso quite well. I got a flat white, as usual. Friend got an excellent cannellé but the highlight was definitely this cheddar, sesame, chili scone! Would've never thought to put sweet chili sauce on a scone but genius idea. Always craving to return. Plus the cafe is super cute overall and has a lot of fun goods to shop while you're waiting for your coffee. And the street it's on is cute to walk around as well :) read more

It's good but I prefer the muffins and coffee at locally owned McGraths for 1/2 the price. The lines can be long and it's very pricey.

The cafe is beautiful. Looks like it came out of a Nancy Meyers movie. I ordered an iced lavender latte and it was delicious. The staff was friendly. I'm so glad I made the drive from Bar Harbor because I couldn't find good coffee there. read more

My family has been coming to Mount Desert regularly since 2000. We invited friends to join us for a portion of the visit this year and decided it would be fun to host a dinner party in our home. I began searching for a private chef and saw that The Salt Market offered private dinners. We fell in love with the Market on our last trip in 2022 and were delighted to learn that Maude, the proprietor, was available to prepare this special meal for our family and friends. Maude was so helpful from the beginning with the menu planning. She revealed that she makes a point to source from local farmers and purveyors which I respect. Her website was easy to follow, and it was difficult to narrow down the options because everything sounded so delightful. Maude agreed to provide the food, food service, and the floral arrangement for our table. When Maude and her assistant Cat arrived, they immediately took charge so that I did not need to lift a finger and could spend my time visiting w/my family and guests. My jaw dropped w/delight when I saw the floral arrangement; it was perfect. I did not specify what I wanted, yet it seemed she mysteriously knew my design aesthetic. The centerpiece was large enough to make a statement, and it fit our table perfectly. Maude and Cat began by serving us an incredible appetizer selection of shortbread cookies topped with prosciutto and blue cheese and salmon on cucumber w/dill. Both were amazing, but the shortbread cookies were out of this world. I understand that she is going to offer her shortbreads for holiday gifts, and I would advise getting your orders in now! The menu consisted of roast chicken, poached salmon, potatoes w/crème fraiche, haricot vert, and a simple green salad; it was as delicious as I hoped it would be. We ordered a chocolate olive oil cake and a blueberry galette for dessert, and both were showstoppers. Each dessert looked like a piece of art, and it felt wrong eating them. But devour the desserts we did; they were equally decadent and delicious. The meal and all that accompanied it exceeded my every expectation. I highly recommend Maude for your private event planning.
