Last week my wife and I made our annual pilgrimage to Bar Harbor. We stayed at the Tide Watch Cabins which are just next door and part of the Chart Room. Needless to say, we found ourselves at the Chart Room on more than one occasion. Happy hour on the pier is a must do. The view coupled with half price drinks and apps can't be beat. We always meet great people who are visiting just like us. One evening we had dinner there as well. My wife had the Baked Stuffed Haddock, and I had the Chicken Broccoli Alfredo. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. Large portions, excellent presentation and at a price I expect to pay at a five-star restaurant on the coast of Maine. What I feel is the highlight of our experience at the Chart Room was the staff. Everything started with James the General Manager and Jamie, the Booking Manager. We appreciate all their help before we even arrived there. There were several members of the wait staff that were amazing as well. Some that we've seen each season when we visit. Chris, Presley, Val, Miranda and Lexi are just a few of them. Our bartender Jamie was equally amazing. Ellen enjoyed a couple unique drinks that Jamie had added a small twist to. This is an awesome restaurant that you need to visit when you are in the area. We are already looking forward to our visit next summer read more

The Chart Room truly made my husband's 50th birthday one to remember! From the handwritten birthday message waiting for him to the incredible service from our server, Mathew, every detail made us feel celebrated. Mathew went above and beyond. He personalized our experience, helped our youngest de-shell his very first whole lobster, kept the conversation fun with his friendly banter, and made sure our drinks were never empty. His genuine hospitality made the evening even more special. The food was absolutely delicious, and as an added bonus, they have plenty of parking, a huge perk in an area where parking can be incredibly challenging. I have been to the Chart Room a few times in the last five years. Before my first trip to Maine in 2021, a colleague recommended this restaurant to me as a must try in the Bar Harbor area and she was not wrong. From my first time here five years ago to 2 weeks ago when I was last here, it has not changed. I came here with my family and dog, and like many places in the area, it is dog friendly when sitting outdoors. Shortly after taking our orders, the appetizers came out quick. The clam chowder, lobster stew and calamari all great choices. I also liked how there was a big portion for appetizers. For the entree, I had the lobster carbonara and the portion was so big I only ate half of it. My son had the Lobster Newberg and he said it was excellent. Overall, the Chart Room is an excellent choice for dinner. The views, food, and service are all worth it. Only comment I had is parking is limited. Besides that, this is a great choice to get food at after hiking at Arcadia. If I come back to Maine, I will absolutely come back here! read more

I came here because I wanted a nice restaurant to celebrate my daughter's birthday while on vacation visiting Bar Harbor. It does have a water view and the inside is very nicely decorated. We took a table outdoors to enjoy the view. It took a while for a waitress to come. We were told they changed tables so it did take some time before one finally took our order. But we did get our water and drinks. They do lots of choices on the menu. We started with the clam chowder , which was good. It wasn't very hot but warm and tasty. I ordered a chicken that came with rice and vegetables. But you can change your side to baked potatoe or French fries. I ordered baked potatoe and it comes with butter and sour cream on the side. My daughter ordered the lobster Mac and cheese. I had two chickens that were on the small side but good. Then we ended with an ice cream that the waitress put a candle on. It was cold at this point so we went inside so the candle wouldn't blow before singing Happy Birthday. Then we brought it outside to finish. This place has a small parking lot and it is always crowded. I see they rent cabins on their property as well. It was a good evening and I would come back. read more

We were able to sit out on the outdoor patio. Beautiful view! We all enjoyed the spinach artichoke appetizer that came with tortilla chips. I ordered the lazy lobster soaked in real butter oozing with garlic!! Incredible. It came with carrots and a baked potato. Wish we were here longer as I'd love to duplicate this meal. One of the places I was able to get a reservation for right before our trip and across from where we stayed. Cute, old school, supper club vibe on the water. It was cool to see the bay at low tide and you can access it from their deck. Lots of outdoor seating but it was chilly so we sat inside. The host put us right by the window which was great! Our server was really nice! Attentive and accurate. We were in and out in 45 minutes which might be bad and might be good depending on what you like. We had the bread (delish) bang bang shrimp (decent), halibut (just ok), Alfredo pasta (good!), kids burger (he said good), and the scallops (decent). I just feel like it was just ok food, my halibut just seemed frozen and not fresh as listed. Everything was ok, but probably won't return. read more

I liked the view, cocktails and service. The food was not a good value. If you charge $40 for seafood stew put some seafood in it! No clams or shrimp . Just tiny pieces of white fish and a few mussels and calamari. Sorry I meant to take the a picture. We were so shocked by the amount of food it slipped our minds. Also the toast was stale. The main complaint was our server. She was friendly, but not with it at all. We noticed other tables received baskets of bread, we didn't. She never brought us silverware/napkins. I asked for a drink menu that never came. Water glasses were never refilled when empty and for the most part she was relatively absent. The food was underwhelming but okay. Got fish and chips, kids Mac n cheese, butter noodles and what they called a panazella salad; which was really just a wilty soggy tomato salad as it had too much dressing, no fresh basil and the onions were raw instead of pickled. The place itself was clean, nice and has great views of the water. Wish we had gotten a seat outside but they had all been reserved! Make some improvements and this place would be killer! read more

I'm convinced this is one of the best restaurants in Bar Harbor. We wandered in on a random Thursday afternoon to get a very late lunch. It was close to where we were staying, and we noticed it had a deck overlooking the water when we drove by. We had just come into town and were trying to get our bearings for the start of our trip. We were lucky enough to get Missy as our server. She was so incredibly with a big, friendly personality. If you choose to visit, I'd highly recommend you ask to sit in her section. We realized through her conversation with others, that there were several tourist regulars eating around us. She said one couple had been in town for two weeks and visited The Chart Room daily. There was another couple seated next to us that only ordered blueberry pie and coffee, then told their server they'd see him later as they'd be back for dinner time. That really says a lot about how good this restaurant is in my opinion. Obviously, being in Maine we had to try everything blueberry. The blueberry marg recommended by Missy was great! The real stand out though, was the blueberry pie. Truly, my husband and I agree, that it was the best dessert we've ever had. I can absolutely understand why people were returning and ordering just pie. We ended up coming back for dinner one night with the pie being our main motivation for dining here again! The food was also really good. I don't eat seafood and that's the bulk of most restaurant menus in Maine so unfortunately, I can't attest to how good it may have been. My food choices were more "boring", but still good. My salad was huge and tasty! My husband ordered the scallop special and while it was more expensive than he would've liked, he said it ended up being in the top 2 favorite meals he had during our vacation. read more

I will start by saying, if I am paying for bread, it should be something special and not snowflake rolls from a package that they charged $6.50 for. My French onion soup was fine, nothing to brag about. My ribeye steak wasn't great, but the potato and green beans were good. My husband ordered the prime rib, which he enjoyed very much. We ate in the dining room, but out back they had a nice deck area that appears to be well frequented and a great place to watch the sunset. I had been disappointed with my first lobster roll in Portland, but thought I'd give it another chance once we made it to Bar Harbor. On the menu they have a small lobster roll with kettle chips but I chose fries and a small bowl of clam chowder. They have a nice area in the back for outdoor dining. It was clean and comfortable. The lobster roll was perfect. The lobster was cold and the bun was warm and delicious. The clam chowder had nice chunks of clams and served with oyster crackers. Our server was attentive. Came for oyster happy hour. $2 dollar oysters. The staff was incredibly kind and all offered their perspective how we could best enjoy our time. We shared a dish of macadamia encrusted halibut, and it was divine. We had a great view of the water from our table as most of the tables in here seem to. Our server Presley was delightful. She made suggestions and was very sweet and personable. This restaurant is a little bit outside of the main part of town and thus the prices were also more reasonable. Heading into Bar Harbor we wanted a good dinner but didn't want to deal with the crowds. About 4 miles before heading into Bar Harbor this restaurant is on the main road on the water. It's a huge space. You can sit inside, or outside on the deck or pier. We chose to sit on the pier. It was a beautiful day and view. Our waitress was so sweet and friendly. We ordered the blueberry lemonade happy hour drink special and a dozen of the $2 oysters. The oysters were divine! For $2 each I could have eaten more. For dinner I had the Maine mussels in white wine, garlic, tomato served with baguettes. I've had mussels before and these were spectacular. The white wine sauce was incredible!! Every mussel was cooked perfect. Not one was closed. The flavor of the sauce distributed through out every mussel. Topped with the view and the amazing wait staff this meal was memorable. read more

Went here with a group of friends. The staff was very nice and we were able to get a reservation as a party of 5 a couple hours before we wanted to eat which was very nice. They had a very good lobster roll and the salmon was good. I will say the portion of the salmon added to the ceaser salad was very underwhelming comparatively to what I've got in the past. The summertime pesto risotto entree was definitely different. It didn't seem to be risotto and was very bland. Almost like it was white rice with just pesto on it. read more

We were told that they weren't taking reservations and could not guarantee a table to our liking. But the receiver of our call told us that he would put our names down for 730p. We arrived promptly. A popular local establishment that lies right along the shoreline of Hulls Cove so the water views can change depending on the tide. Parking is limited due to being right along the highway so just slow down as you approach the restaurant. There is also a small parking area across the street just be careful crossing, especially at night. It is not well lit and traffic can be busy. This is a very popular site, so reservations are highly recommended. They utilize every area of the restaurant for seating and you can see most people enjoying the outdoor patios when the weather is nice. Seating in the enclosed or open patios are accessed in the back down a short steep walkway, I am not aware of this being accessible for wheelchairs. Their menu was varied and our first meal for dinner was enjoyed so much that we returned another day for lunch. Sauces could be a bit heavy but were full of flavor. What we had went well with the accompanying dish. Portions were generous and the seafood was fresh and well prepared. Dinner visit:9 5/5 Seafood linguine with a &delicious sherry flavored cream sauce. The shrimp and scallops were tender and for an additional price I was able to request some lobster to be added to this dish. 4/5 Baked Stuffed Haddock- my husband's dish which he enjoyed. The fish was baked just right and was fresh, moist and tender. Lunch visit: 4/5 Crab Dip- blend of crab, cheddar, seasoning and scallions served with crostinis. Served piping hot but the crostinis were tough to bite through and chewy. Definitely helped take the edge off of starving for food after a big hike. 5/5 Clam Chowder- creamy New England style had a smooth and texture. Not grainy and the clams were readily present and tender. 5/5 Beaten Goat salads, arugula with candied walnuts, diced beets, goat cheese with raspberry vinaigrette. I added lobster to my salad and the husband added grilled tuna to his. 5/5 Blueberry pie- baked in house with Maine blueberries that just burst with flavor despite their tiny size. If I were a local I would designate this restaurant as one of my go to stops. It is an older establishment and they preserve the old style recipes. Mikey is a great bartender and Mary Lou is a fabulous hostess. We thank them both. We felt immediately welcomed and invited to sit at the bar for happy hour. Mikey mixed a just right Chart House signature martini and rosemary-infused gin & tonic and the team in the kitchen delivered delish roasted potatoes and THE tastiest Maine "Blonde" oysters we have ever eaten. Don't miss 'em! They were nicely arranged and had such flavor we ordered a second dozen! Three part review. 1 star for the host who was RUDE. It's wild he works in the service industry. He must be a peach when it's actually busy. I still don't know why we stayed but the kids were hungry and we needed to just eat. With an empty restaurant behind him, the host replied "Eight!? I can't seat eight without a reservation!" To which we replied, "Can you check and see?" (It was 4:45pm, we thought we would catch happy hour oysters and drinks but) "no kids on the pier!" (There were kids out there but whatever). Popped in here for a light bite after a rousing game of mini golf. First - the view from the deck here is hard to beat. And it's so much more peaceful than the hub bin of the Harbor down the road. And - they've added seats lining the dock. Very cool! Mom and I ordered the haddock bites (which had a fancy French name I don't recall) which came with chipotle mayo and pineapple salsa. The haddock was perfectly cooked and the light breading was on point. The combo of the dips was amazing too. My Dad got the whole belly clam app - he said they were great - no grit and the tartar sauce had a good kick! As always - I asked to see the dessert menu, just to look. But wow - it was loaded with so many of my favorites. We went with a cheesecake (raspberry today) and a peanut butter pie. I didn't try the pie - but my cheesecake was top notch! Silky, light and delicious! And the raspberry sauce was very good!! Lastly - I had a blueberry mojito that was delicious. Mom had a blueberry lemonade mock tail and was very happy.
