    Lobster Mac and Cheese
    Joan M.

I came here because I wanted a nice restaurant to celebrate my daughter's birthday while on vacation visiting Bar Harbor. It does have a water view and the inside is very nicely decorated. We took a table outdoors to enjoy the view. It took a while for a waitress to come. We were told they changed tables so it did take some time before one finally took our order. But we did get our water and drinks. They do lots of choices on the menu. We started with the clam chowder , which was good. It wasn't very hot but warm and tasty. I ordered a chicken that came with rice and vegetables. But you can change your side to baked potatoe or French fries. I ordered baked potatoe and it comes with butter and sour cream on the side. My daughter ordered the lobster Mac and cheese. I had two chickens that were on the small side but good. Then we ended with an ice cream that the waitress put a candle on. It was cold at this point so we went inside so the candle wouldn't blow before singing Happy Birthday. Then we brought it outside to finish. This place has a small parking lot and it is always crowded. I see they rent cabins on their property as well. It was a good evening and I would come back.

We were able to sit out on the outdoor patio. Beautiful view! We all enjoyed the spinach artichoke appetizer that came with tortilla chips. I ordered the lazy lobster soaked in real butter oozing with garlic!! Incredible. It came with carrots and a baked potato. Wish we were here longer as I'd love to duplicate this meal. Also great service even though they were pretty busy.

One of the places I was able to get a reservation for right before our trip and across from where we stayed. Cute, old school, supper club vibe on the water. It was cool to see the bay at low tide and you can access it from their deck. Lots of outdoor seating but it was chilly so we sat inside. The host put us right by the window which was great! Our server was really nice! Attentive and accurate. We were in and out in 45 minutes which might be bad and might be good depending on what you like. We had the bread (delish) bang bang shrimp (decent), halibut (just ok), Alfredo pasta (good!), kids burger (he said good), and the scallops (decent). I just feel like it was just ok food, my halibut just seemed frozen and not fresh as listed. Everything was ok, but probably won't return.

I liked the view, cocktails and service. The food was not a good value. If you charge $40 for seafood stew put some seafood in it! No clams or shrimp . Just tiny pieces of white fish and a few mussels and calamari. Sorry I meant to take the a picture. We were so shocked by the amount of food it slipped our minds. Also the toast was stale. On a positive note the broth was tasty. It was the only redeeming quality of this dish.

I'm convinced this is one of the best restaurants in Bar Harbor. We wandered in on a random Thursday afternoon to get a very late lunch. It was close to where we were staying, and we noticed it had a deck overlooking the water when we drove by. We had just come into town and were trying to get our bearings for the start of our trip. We were lucky enough to get Missy as our server. She was so incredibly with a big, friendly personality. If you choose to visit, I'd highly recommend you ask to sit in her section. We realized through her conversation with others, that there were several tourist regulars eating around us. She said one couple had been in town for two weeks and visited The Chart Room daily. There was another couple seated next to us that only ordered blueberry pie and coffee, then told their server they'd see him later as they'd be back for dinner time. That really says a lot about how good this restaurant is in my opinion. Obviously, being in Maine we had to try everything blueberry. The blueberry marg recommended by Missy was great! The real stand out though, was the blueberry pie. Truly, my husband and I agree, that it was the best dessert we've ever had. I can absolutely understand why people were returning and ordering just pie. We ended up coming back for dinner one night with the pie being our main motivation for dining here again! The food was also really good. I don't eat seafood and that's the bulk of most restaurant menus in Maine so unfortunately, I can't attest to how good it may have been. My food choices were more "boring", but still good. My salad was huge and tasty! My husband ordered the scallop special and while it was more expensive than he would've liked, he said it ended up being in the top 2 favorite meals he had during our vacation.

Very nice staff and efficient service! The oysters and drinks were good. The menu had a little too much fried food for my taste but I was still able to find a good option with the mussels. However, the sauce was a bit bland. There was a great view of the water and sunset even though it was too cold to sit outside

Excellent local place for lunch/dinner. PROs: Our server was Abby, and she was excellent. She had awesome service and professionally juggled multiple tables without missing a beat. We had crab cakes, baked haddock, & lobster Mac. All were amazing. The views and vibes were awesome as well. You can sit either inside or outside. Plenty of full bar options as well for you libations. CONs: Parking is a challenge during peak meal times. Bathrooms could get a slight update.

I will start by saying, if I am paying for bread, it should be something special and not snowflake rolls from a package that they charged $6.50 for. My French onion soup was fine, nothing to brag about. My ribeye steak wasn't great, but the potato and green beans were good. My husband ordered the prime rib, which he enjoyed very much. We ate in the dining room, but out back they had a nice deck area that appears to be well frequented and a great place to watch the sunset. Overall food in Bar Harbor was not great, so by the last night of our trip I was not surprised that we had yet another "just ok" meal.

I had been disappointed with my first lobster roll in Portland, but thought I'd give it another chance once we made it to Bar Harbor. On the menu they have a small lobster roll with kettle chips but I chose fries and a small bowl of clam chowder. They have a nice area in the back for outdoor dining. It was clean and comfortable. The lobster roll was perfect. The lobster was cold and the bun was warm and delicious. The clam chowder had nice chunks of clams and served with oyster crackers. Our server was attentive. It was a great experience and if we are ever in the area, we'll be back.

    Happy hour oysters

Came for oyster happy hour. $2 dollar oysters. The staff was incredibly kind and all offered their perspective how we could best enjoy our time. They suggested we have a drink by the ocean while we waited for happy hour to start. The oysters were fabulous! We didn't eat off the regular menu as we had no more room left but the menu looked delicious. Would absolutely recommend!

Heading into Bar Harbor we wanted a good dinner but didn't want to deal with the crowds. About 4 miles before heading into Bar Harbor this restaurant is on the main road on the water. It's a huge space. You can sit inside, or outside on the deck or pier. We chose to sit on the pier. It was a beautiful day and view. Our waitress was so sweet and friendly. We ordered the blueberry lemonade happy hour drink special and a dozen of the $2 oysters. The oysters were divine! For $2 each I could have eaten more. For dinner I had the Maine mussels in white wine, garlic, tomato served with baguettes. I've had mussels before and these were spectacular. The white wine sauce was incredible!! Every mussel was cooked perfect. Not one was closed. The flavor of the sauce distributed through out every mussel. Topped with the view and the amazing wait staff this meal was memorable.

Sweet Baby Jesus. If…read moreyou're the sort of person who requires cloth napkins, tasteful lighting and a waiter named Chad who explains the provenance of every pea on your plate, don't go here. But if you want honest food at today's prices, pull up a chair. The lobster roll was a revelation. Not that mayonnaise-based lobster purée somebody scraped out of a tub and smeared onto a bun that had been sitting around since the Carter administration. This was real chunks of lobster, lightly seasoned, piled onto a fresh roll and left alone to taste like lobster. Then came the steamers. Sweet mercy. Those steamers were the best thing I have tasted since 1974, and I'm not entirely sure what happened in 1974, but apparently somebody knew how to steam a clam. The service was excellent--friendly, attentive and without the usual modern-day restaurant ritual of wondering whether your server has forgotten you exist. The décor? Let's just say aging fish camp chic. If you're looking for polished brass and a chandelier imported from France, keep driving. If you want the feeling that somebody might walk in carrying a cooler full of flounder, you're home. For the love of all that is holy, give this place a try. Come hungry. Leave happy. And if you encounter a cloth napkin, somebody has probably made a terrible mistake

We visited this great…read moreplace on our first night, we had lobster rolls and clam chowder that was exceptional, with generous portions and priced fairly. The employees were fun and they made the experience nicer. The next day it was time for lunch and my husband said lets go back to the Traveling Lobster, I said (and later regretted) no let's try somewhere else. We tried a place with a catchy lobster name and the teenage boy, behind the counter of the takeout as he handed us our change said, you're leaving me a tip - right? In unison we both said no. I added we don't tip workers at McDonalds, we're not tipping you and even if we did, we wouldn't tip you because of your demand, he walked away nonplussed, to add insult to injury the food was mediocre for the price. Later that afternoon we tried another lobster stand, and it was worse; the food was terrible for the price, we ordered a side of lobster mac and cheese and there was not a shred of lobster in it, we ended up taking it back and getting our money. Starving, we went back to the Traveling Lobster and had another great meal, listened to trivia and left satisfied. What we learned is if a stand isn't busy or has few cars, don't bother, there's a reason. By all means go the Travelin Lobster, the parking lot is busy, the line moves fast and the food comes out fast and excellent, the employees don't attempt to shame you into tipping them and when you order lobster mac and cheese, you get plenty of lobster. I also learned that my sweet husband is sometimes right :).

BACK FOR A SECOND YEAR…read more.. I see why this place is ###1 In Maine...... Great outdoor atmosphere, kid friendly, sit and relax under and massive shade canopy, away form the road, includes outdoor service.. (not just another roadside "lobsta" shop with a folding table on the edge of a parking lot) . OK- good vibe on property and location, I don' at all mind a walk-up window to order....saves money, time and you know exactly how many orders are in front of you. All good, but how is the food ? Family of 4 - We ordered a bit of everything for sharing....Lobster dinner to start...super fresh, large 2 + pounder bathed in hot butter.....add a side of lobster nachos....OMG, good call. Not a fan of corn on the cob, but the kids loved it. I am happy. Next .I ordered a straight up lobster roll - hot, butter only, No skimp on the lobster (see picture) with a added side of coleslaw which was a pleasant surprise....made fresh daily with owners secret recipe (he would not share BTW). ), I added garlic aioli sauce to everything because this place understands all food is enhanced with either hot butter or home-made aioli sauce....(never mayo) My kids binge ate french fri's which have a light coating, crispy and hot while they each ate lobster tacos...What the heck ? A Taco in Maine ? Delicious....all the way. Again no skimping on the lobster meat. Then came the real test.....a virtual dark horse (no they do not serve "horse") .The Ice Cream Boat (which also has a stern full of fresh blueberry pie). All locally made, fresh and large portions. I left 5 pounds heavier, asked my wife to drive so I could nap in the back of the rental car. Thanks to owners for a great food experience that represents Maine !
