The donuts here are fantastic!!! Such a hidden gem. We got the blueberry donut and the pumpkin. Both were amazing but if I had to pick, I'd go for the blueberry. Both donuts were cake donuts and had an amazing crunchy, craggy exterior with a soft fluffy interior. And the flavor - absolutely amazing. We came here on a Tuesday afternoon. There are local beers in a good sized menu. Two of us had the lobster roll. One had a lobster melt with the clam chowder. Another one had the fried scallops one had that turkey sandwich, and one of our dining companions had the cranberry salad. Starting with the lobster rolls, they are not on a traditional lobster roll, but are served on their bakery bread. It is a mayo based lobster roll with lettuce and a tomato slice. I know it is Maine in early summer but the tomatoes on everything. We're very anemic looking. But all and all the sandwich was quite tasty I had sweet potato fries which were good but not spectacular. My dining companion, who had the lobster melt says it was very good. He would give it a five. The fried scallops were tender, and just lightly breaded and fried. I thought they were excellent. It also came with fries. The salad was OK, did not have any dark greens was just sort of iceberg, and romaine. But the dressing was good. The turkey club had a nice cranberry relish on it. During a recent visit to Bar Harbor, my family and I were on the hunt for a good breakfast spot. A few seconds of searching on my phone brought us to The Colonel's. They offer take out or dine in seating, with lots of options and a friendly staff too. Ample free public parking out front with other shops on the street to check out as well. We opted to dine in and were happily served omelets, pancakes, and blueberry muffins. Everyone was happy with their food and the portion sizes. On the take-out side, they offer pastries and coffee drinks both which smelled delicious. A great spot to grab a filling breakfast before hitting the trailhead or a day of exploring the island. read more

An expedient and delicious lunch spot. Colonels has a new and clean appearance. Bright with lots of varnished wood. The food and service were both excellent. We had a party at six and sampled lobster rolls lobster melts and fried scallops. All were top notch. The lobster melt was tasty, but the lobster roll had a more generous portion of lobster. The scallops were cooked perfectly --tender and sweet. The servers were attentive, and had good recommendations. The kitchen is very efficient, I was amazed at how fast are food came out. read more

We stopped here for lunch on a weekday during our vacation to Acadia National Park. It was a nice, clean place with wood booths. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was pretty good. My son and I both enjoyed the wings appetizer. I enjoyed the lobster avocado sandwich. My wife said the margarita pizza was good. The fries were meh and not worth the calories, so I didn't eat them. Oh, but then we went to the bakery side before we left and picked up donuts to have for breakfast the next morning. The donuts were AMAZING!!! I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back there for lunch, but I would make a special trip to go back to the bakery and get more of those donuts. We ate here two days in a row, Monday and Tuesday. Monday, I ordered scallops and my wife had fish and chips. We really enjoyed both entrées. Also ordered a bowl of clam chowder which we felt was watery and hard to finish since it was in a shallow bowl. Overall, we enjoyed the meal very much so we came back the next day. Disappointed the next day since we ordered the avocado lobster sandwich and the lobster roll. We felt both were skimpy on the lobster. If you're looking for a lunch spot in between your hikes at Acadia, i really recommend coming down to Northeast Harbor! Definitely less distance and less crowded than going up and out to Bar Harbor. All three of the menus we tried were solid and very filling; it also seems their burgers are also very popular! read more

Must have ordered the Wrong thing. A lot of good reviews. Good was good but really skimmky. Turkey club had one slice of turkey and two bread. Always had a club made with three bread. Was offered a choice of sides - no mention of $5 extra. Had a cup of chowder. All soup. Three little pieces of clams and one cube of potato. Was tasty but not worth an extra $5. Food was good. Waitress was nice. But.....when we arrived six of us was escorted to a tiny booth. It was going to be an extremely tight fit for six. We chose another larger table that was much more comfortable. After we were seated, the manager approached our table & stated we were sitting at a table that seats 8 patrons. She said if a party of 8 came in, we would have to move into one of the smaller booths! Being it was 3:30 in the afternoon & there was only one other couple besides us in the restaurant, we stayed at our table & ate. The meal was served piping hot with tartar sauce and ketchup packets. The haddock was bland even with the tartar sauce, and the fries were average. I think northeast harbor is so cute. The small town feel is so inviting, and poking into the little shops around the downtown area really give you a feeling for the area. On one of our stops through the town, we decided to stay for lunch and the Colonel's was one of the few places that was open. We were seated promptly, and the back restaurant area was surprisingly full. We started with some drinks, and then ordered a pizza for me and a French dip for him. It took quite awhile for our food to come out, but when it did, we were really unimpressed. My pizza was undercooked in the middle, and the garlic tasted like it came from a jar. Hubby's dip was gristly and tough, and the only saving grace were the very salty fries. Once we paid, we went to the bakery area in the front, and we got a few baked goods. I selected a macaroon, and it was by far the most dry, flavorless, and crumbly macaroon I've ever had the displeasure of eating. I understand we hit them on their last week or two of being open before much of the area closes for the winter, but I would hate to think that locals have to lean on establishments like this for their limited dining out options. Prices were low but the price is reflected the taste, quality, and presentation of their dishes from the bakery through the restaurant. read more

I was surprised to have enjoyed a 6-oz burger called Skips burger and honestly is one of the best tasting burgers I've ever had and I learned that they made the beef patties there. They even cooked it perfectly medium which is almost impossible to do for a burger... impressive!I tried the Margarita Pizza and the crust is made of the bakery also very good sign and lobster casserole with green beans were a delight too. Service was very nice and the bartender while waiting for a table was very sweet and welcoming. It is conveniently attached to the Colonel Suites above. The baked goods were decent too. read more

We came here on a whim and we loved it. The bakery sells wonderful items, I have tried the chocolate glazed donut and the Carrot cake. Friends got the blueberry turnover and macaroon, all were well enjoyed! We also hung out at the bar and enjoyed one of each of the apps during happy hour (Nachos, wings, Mozzarella sticks, and onion rings), all were devoured. Solid place to go if you're in the area. All the food here is delicious, from the donuts to the pizza to the chowder! Their donuts are unique and delicious. Although the blueberry and chocolate donuts are glazed, they don't make you feel heavy like most glazed donuts do. If you're a frequent flyer of Northeast Harbor, you'll know that their haddock fish chowder is legendary! The potatoes to fish ratio leans a little towards the former which is a bit of bummer but the flavor is all there! The margherita pizza is also pretty good. While the body can get soggy from the sauce since it's so thin, the edges are almost like breadsticks. The lobster melt ($20) with oat bread is amazing. Most of the menu is fairly overpriced, you get a good portion of lobster with the lobster melt for the price you pay! The service really depends on the day. With covid restrictions being lifted, the dining room and outdoor seats are often extremely packed, which leaves the waiters/waitresses a bit sparse in service. They are pleasant and friendly when they eventually do get to your table though! read more

Perfectly laid back atmosphere, with a bakery/sweet area connected to the restaurant. Staff were friendly, and accommodating to our party of 7. They did seem a bit flustered as the restaurant became full, but did what they could with the limited staff. I also appreciated the patience our waitress showed my niece and nephew when they ordered Shirley Temples. The fried clams were a hit with our group, and I'd easily get it again. The baked scallops sounded delicious, but unfortunately they tasted over cooked. I didn't have a chance to sample their pizza, but it seems like the pizza is the way to go. We saw countless pickups of 2-3 pizzas per person. If you're coming with a group of 4 or more, definitely make a reservation as the place got packed by dinner time. read more

We came here to take a break from the insanely busy bar harbor main and west streets. This was a decent option and reasonably food made as expected and good quality. We had a little higher expectation for the breads but it was maybe more of a style preference. I like a crunchy French baguette style roll and theirs was more soft all around even on outside. Enjoyed a late lunch yesterday at the Colonel's Restaurant and Bakery in Northeast Harbor. The booths indoors and the tables outside seemed roomy, while the entire atmosphere felt cozy and neighborly. The cranberry/walnut salad was fresh and filling, even without adding protein. The hostess was friendly and welcoming, Jaiden was a friendly and super efficient waitress, and the food arrived quickly, even as the tables started filling up. Stopped at the bakery to pick up one (highly-praised) glazed blueberry donut for desert on our way out - it did not disappoint. It was gone before we made it back to the car, which was parked directly in front of the restaurant. Will definitely return next time we're on Mt Desert Island. read more
