When the hostess asked if we wanted to sit at a table or the bar, my husband chose the bar. I was concerned because I wanted dinner, but the hostess said they served dinner at the bar too. After we were seated, no one asked us if we wanted anything. We needed to flag someone down to get a menu and some drinks. When we were ready to order food, we had to flag someone down again. The food was good, but the service is terrible at the bar if you're ordering food. I think this is place to drink beer as I was not very impressed with the food. I must say that just by hearing the name I assumed this would be a place where there are BBQ items or plenty of meat. I live in downtown Riverside and of all the restaurants around this is hands down mine and my boyfriends absolute favorite!! We always say we are going to try a new restaurant but can't seem to stray from TSP. They always have an amazing selection of craft beers on tap and great cocktails. I remember the first time I came here, it was like someone took a little piece of LA and dropped it in downtown Riverside. Awesome. I love this place and come here way too often; it's my birthday, valentines day, friend get together go to. Not to mention it's also my favorite non chain restaurant in town. The service is consistently good, the drinks are deceptively strong, and the food delicious and delivered in generous portions. Yes, the prices are a bit high, but reasonable when you consider quality and portion. Pretty much, you get what you pay for. Pros: Fun atmosphere, yummy homemade ketchup, large drink variety Cons: The menu had recently changed and there weren't as many options as before. The pedestrian burger was the only burger on the menu and it was just okay. My friend ordered the kaarage fried chicken and was excited to try it, but was also disappointed--it was mostly batter with a little bit of dark meat chicken inside. I really enjoyed the Salted Pig. My boyfriend took me to a late lunch at 4 o'clock, when we got in the door we were greeted by the owner who took us to our seats. As soon as we where seated our waiter came and introduced himself to us and asked was it our first time, we said yes and he took the time to explain the menu to us. We ordered the bacon fat popcorn, strawberry lemonade, the pig burger which was d delicious, fries. And for dessert we had what I think was called Sammy Pig or Pig Sammy which was ice cream sandwich with bacon in it. It was something different I like it but my boyfriend didn't care for it. They stay true to the gastro pub feel, and I'm a sucker for that. Got several cocktails and the draft hard cider. So satisfying, especially the 'high-five' if you're a gin girl. The food was amazing. I love it when the only thing on the walls are huge beer menus! The food was freakin' awesome. PRICEY, but awesome. I had the Pork Belly Sandwich. Honestly, the most delectable(I rarely use this word) sandwich EVER. The bun was soft and toasty, the pork was all fatty, smokey and melty in my mouth...it came with a side of grilled asparagus with pine nuts and raisins, yum. I also tried the filthy fries. Too filthy for me! Bravo for the TON of beer cheese, but it was too much. Loved the cloves of garlic on it. For drink I had the cheapest beer on the menu. A $7 12oz glass of Knuckle Sandwich. Very good recommendation by my server. I'm not giving this place 5 stars because of their beer prices. Way overpriced. Average price is $10 bux a glass. I forgot to review this place back in the beginning of the year. I guess better late than never. Expensive burger, but it was one of the best burgers I've had. Since I wasn't hungry when I went there, I figured I'd just eat my burger the next day. I took a bite when it was fresh and when ate the rest when it was a day old. It as amazing both times. I ordered the MSG burger with filthy fries. Filthy fries are worth it if you're not counting calories. Oh and obviously this place has pretty good beer selections. At the end of my meal, they ran out of bacon ice cream. I wanted to see what the hype was all about but I guess not. Probably because so many people have already given such high praise for this place. This place is usually very busy unless you come early. Rightfully so. The food is always very good, but it is very rich. They have one of the guilty pleasure appetizers -- deep fried, bacon-wrapped dates. Eat just one or make an appointment for a cardiologist. They do have a couple of lighter options, like brussel sprouts that display their versatility in the kitchen. The burgers are seasoned and prepared well. *IMPORTANT* Many of the previous reviewers marked the noise levels here as "Average," but due to the finished concrete floor, smooth walls, and flat ceiling in some parts, the noise levels can get pretty loud, especially in the section of tables along the kitchen's expo line. If you don't want to be yelling just to be heard by the person sitting across from you, I'd suggest you get a table on the side of the restaurant closest to the bar. I'm a fan of this joint. Had some minor service issues on occasion, but the food makes up for it. They serve some of the best burgers I've ever had, and the fries are pretty good (make sure you ask for light or no salt, because they sometimes com out drenched in it). The pork belly sandwich is a good choice anytime, and if you're in the mood for a little excess, order it with bacon on it. The pig sammy, an ice cream sandwich consisting of two maple cookies and a hearty scoop or two of maple bacon ice cream, is ok, but a little too much. The cookies don't add much as a pairing, and I could probably just go for the ice cream alone or, at most, served on only one cookie. Either way, it's something you should try once. read more

This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in the Inland Empire. A restaurant built around beer and bacon... nuff said. Here are some of my favorites: Drink: Candied Bacon Old Fashioned, oh yes they did. Appetizer: Deep fried bacon wrapped date stuffed with cream cheeze... whaaaaat? Mussels: I'm not a fan of mussels generally, but they are drenched in a spicey buttery delicioussness sauce. Pig Burger: Quite possibly the best burger I've ever had. The meat is cooked perfectly, (I believe half bacon half ground beef), with a fried egg over it. If you are going to get anything here for your first time here this is it. Pork Belly Sandwich: Very fatty, and delicious. The taste is not as strong as the Pig burger, but it's fantastic. Topped with fresh strawberries and arugula. Dessert: Maple bacon ice cream... ridiculous. Mind = Blown. It's a trendy setting with a lot of hipsters and college students, the service is incredible and the wait staff is very knowledgeable about the different beers they carry. They seem to have a passion for it and it shows through. The place is a little on the pricey side for what they serve, but for the atmosphere, quality and consistency I am glad to pay a little more. read more

I had big expectations of an excellent meal at the Salted Pig and was genuinely disappointed. The food is way over priced. My girlfriend ordered an $18 Bowl of Split Pea Soup that was barely warm and was four spoons full. Honestly, it was $1 worth of canned soup with $1 worth of pulled pork added to it. I had the Pork pot pie which was well made but honestly just incredibly over priced. On top of that the restaurant is too noisy, it was ball shrinking cold inside, and the service was slow. They did have a great variety of beer, but it was too damn cold to sit in there and drink on a cold rainy night. Here's a pro tip for you, if it's cold and raining outside, don't have your restaurant cold inside. read more

If, like me, you were a big fan of The Salted Pig at its original location on Twelfth Street in Riverside, then you are in for a jolt when you walk into its new location a few blocks up on Main Street. Gone is the cozy, dark, familial gastro pub atmosphere, where locals could drop in after work for a pint or two recommended by supremely knowledgeable and experienced servers who knew their brews - and the menu. I have a lot of great memories of good times at the old location, I even held my retirement farewell there. But that restaurant is history. The new restaurant is bright and urbane, agleam with burnished copper and confetti countertops, clearly geared to the posh condo dwellers above. I popped in there this week to check it out while serving on jury duty, and was taken with the dramatic change. It was only their second day open, and the lunch menu was limited. I have Celiac Disease, and so must eat gluten free. One reason I was such a devoted fan of the old Salted Pig was the knowledgeability of the staff and their helpfulness in accommodating my dietary limitations. With so much evident change, this time I enquired carefully about items on the menu, because I wanted to be sure they could still accommodate me. Concerned about the response I received from my server, I asked to talk with the manager about my order, and he was extremely gracious about it. I'm going to give them another try at some point in the future, once they've had time to get settled in to their new location and the staff have more experience. If you find yourself dining there and have dietary restrictions, I highly recommend asking for the manager right at the start, so they can help both you and their staff navigate appropriate menu options. And if you are a fan of the original Salted Pig, hold onto your memories but let go of any expectations when you go to the new location, as it will be an entirely different experience. read more

This restaurant wants to be good, but I was greatly disappointed. Several friends had been wanting to try it, so a group of us went together on a Saturday. We were a big group...11 of us total, so rather than seat us in the nice normal dining room we were shuffled downstairs to their "Event Space". This space has potential, and I'm sure it's used for some bigger catered events, but when you're the only people down there off to one side and only 5 of the 20 lights are on, you can't help but feel you're eating in the basement. There were about 30 extra chairs lined-up against the dark back wall and they just made it seem kind of creepy. I get it...we were a big group, but they need to do something about that space. The service was great. Our waitress was attentive and managed all the separate checks very well. No complaints there. As for the food, it was a mixed bag. Because there were so many of us, I was able to try several different appetizers. The Filthy Fries are good...I would recommend them. I'm not a fan of Brussels Sprouts, but there's were passable. The Bacon Fat Popcorn is basically kettle corn cooked in...well...bacon fat. Okay, but nothing fantastic. I ordered the MSG burger (mushroom, slab bacon and Gouda cheese). Ordered it medium, but it was closer to rare/medium rare. The flavors of the bacon and Gouda got lost, and it got a little messy because I ordered it with a fried egg (everything's better with a fried egg). The flavor of the egg also got a little lost though. A friend ordered the pork chop. It looked substantial...2 bones and over 2 inches think. The taste, however, is closer to that of ham than a traditional pork chop. I'm not saying it's bad, just that you may be disappointed if you're wanting a regular pork chop. Some other friends ordered the Roasted Bone Marrow and they loved it. They were spreading it on anything they could. I didn't try it, so I can't comment personally, but these guys order bone marrow at other places and said this was up there with the best they've tried. All-in-all not the best dining experience I've ever had, nor the worst. I might consider giving them another shot in a smaller group, or just a couple. I went to The Salted Pig for the fourth time tonight and can positively say this is a great place! During my first visit, my friends and I tried the Battered Dates, the Pig Burger, and the Hangover Burger. The dates are a mind blowing, creative culinary masterpiece. And the chefs have great attention to detail, such as using a homemade brioche bun for the burgers. And even though the food is thoughtful and artful, you definitely get great sized portions. I like to save half my burger for the following day's lunch. I've also gotten dessert at The Salted Pig three times - Gooey Chocolate Cake with Beer Nut Ice Cream, Donuts, and Candied Bacon Ice Cream. Everything has been superb, and the servers are adept at helping you pair your dessert with a craft beer. In addition, I'm predominantly vegetarian except for eating local, humanely raised meat from area farms, so I really appreciate the values behind The Salted Pig. With its great vibe and energy, I definitely foresee The Salted Pig becoming a 'neighborhood' place. I had gotten jury duty and luckily stumbled across this place when we were dismissed for lunch. Ate here all three days I was stuck at the court house and would recommend this place ten times over. Their bacon fat popcorn is addicting but oh so worth it, the smoky from the bacon with the sweet from the maple sugar is the perfect balance. I tried their Mac n' Cheese which was perfectly creamy and bursting with flavor, I could taste an even balance of the different cheeses they used and was very impressed. My second day of jury duty I tried a burger, forgot which one, and sidewalk special on the third. They base their menu & sidewalk specials on what's in season so you'll never know what they'll offer from one day to the next but rest assured it will be good quality. Decor is inviting and from what I saw they have a large selection of beers but I can't comment as I didn't try any of them. read more
