Salted Pig is a staple in downtown Riverside. This updated location is unassuming from the outside but you are immediately thrust into a sleek environment when you go inside. The bar side is to the left when you walk in and restaurant side is on the right. The menu isn't big and everything seems like it's crafted in a specific way. We've done dessert here and appetizers. The pistachio cream pie was amazing and the crust to pie ratio was my favorite. The dirty fries with cheese sauce and fresh herbs are absolutely divine. Service here is really good, I find them to be friendly and helpful if you ask any menu questions. The downside to here is the price. A lot of the cocktails average 16 dollars so when you are paying almost 20 dollars for a small drink and expensive food, it adds up quick. read more

If you're looking for something a little more unique in Riverside, this is the spot. I appreciate the fusion mix. Here's what we had: + I went for the mocktail called Kaya Kolada. It's basically an ube drink with coconut. Great taste if you're looking for a tropical drink. + Scallop crudo was where I took off a star. My main problem with this restaurant is that when we dined at lunch on a weekend they were already out of 4 items on their menu; which the menu is already small to begin with. Food was good. I enjoyed my avocado toast even though it was a bit messy to eat. My whole table enjoyed their food as well. The fries are a MUST HAVE if you like cheese and roasted garlic. Our waitress was awesome and made sure we were always taken care of. The bathroom situation is a bit weird with a communal area for washing hands that people in the dining area can look in on. I would suggest making that more private because it felt wrong having people watch me wash my hands. Really excited to try this place during my first time in Riverside! Seemed to be highly rated, modern, and exciting. Went early to the Mission Inn Festival of Lights and caught their 2-5pm Happy Hour. Just a heads up that their HH food menu is pretty slim. Service was very kind and attentive, helping pick menu items. The place was very aesthetically decorated. There seemed to be a mix of folks there with laptops to study along with folks at the bar there for drinks and light bites. We got the dirty fries and the burger. Both were pretty delicious. Surprisingly, my favorite part was that the side salad had the best tasting dressing I've ever had. I'm so happy they have a new location close to The Mission Inn. It's a short walk from there. I took my husband for his birthday and this was a great place to stop. FUN FACT: I came here (their old location) manyyyy years ago for my 18th birthday! With fond memories, I decided to checkout their new pretty location near Mission Inn. The decor is beautiful!! My favorite is always the macaroni & cheese! It never disappoints. The perfect amount of gooey cheese and flavor. We also tried the Salmon Laab, which I loved! It is on the sour side, but it definitely has classic Lao flavors. Reminds me of home! For my main entree, I tried the Date Night Burger. They do not skimp on any of the ingredients! Just like the mneumonic, Never Eat Soggy Waffles for north east south west, Salty Pig needs a lot of help in multiple directions. Their food is overall OK/meh. But they severely lack in other parts of meal service. We had the burger with dirty fries, bone marrow, and the waffle. The burger was OK, but afterwards we both agreed that Shake shack would've ended up with a happier outcome for the amount of time and money. The bone marrow was roasted nicely to fulfill a bone marrow craving however the tragic star of the show was a terrible waffle. The waffle fully lived up to the never eat soggy waffles phrase. Awful in presentation and okay in taste. For a better idea of what the texture of the waffle tasted like, I'm pretty sure the continental breakfast waffle at a motel 6 would be comparably better in crisp. We came for a Sunday lunch, of which we had about a 15 minute wait to get seated. However, when seated , we noticed that there were several empty tables. We suspect that today's service was understaffed and so they were trying to space out diners. We had a 40+ minute wait from ordering to receiving our first dish. This wait does NOT include the time we waited to get seated. What was more shocking is that the waffle was the last dish to be served and 5 min longer to bring out. I would like to say that our table was an outlier but our surrounding neighbors also suffered from the same 40+min wait times. I think it would have been helpful if staff just acknowledged/gave a quick "I'm sorry" for the long food prep times along with a subpar service. Bottom line: I left Salty Pig sort of feeling like the guests that attend the dinner service on Hell's Kitchen...only here, the food didn't make up for the long wait time. read more

Had lunch here right when they opened. We thought they were still closed because the door was hard to open. But the host opened the door for us apologizing saying door is heavy. We ordered a bloody mary for starters and it was made really well. Also ordered the chicharron and it was really good. I had the pork belly sandwich with dirty fries. I was a first time customer at the Salted Pig this past Friday night. I had high hopes for this place since my cousin raves about how good the food is. When we arrived we were seated immediately, the waitress was great! The ambience was nice; background music was tolerable, not too loud that you couldn't hear yourself converse. For starters, we shared the dirty fries which were good but I wasn't blown away for they were saturated with cheese and roasted garlic cloves; the garlic was the best part. Needless to say; too much cheese. Moving on.. My cousin ordered the pulled pork, which he rated a 7.5 out of ten, there was not very many options for vegetarians so the Falafel sounded appetizing. For those who don't know, Felafel are typically round, soft, and gently lightly crusted on the outside, with a drizzled of a good savory sauce, sounds good right? NOT Unfortunately for me, I received jaw breaking falafel balls which I could only take one bite of. The waitress was very polite and displayed great customer service when I told her about my next dentist I had to make (kidding) she did not hassle me, instead, she was apologetic and removed the dish, she then asked if I wanted another item on the menu, I kindly declined. The interior is modern contemporary style. Very open in the dining area once you get in. You can see the huge bar in the center. I liked the ambiance. They have a special menu not the popular menu. I chose the traditional breakfast w eggs, bacon, and potatoes. My wife had dirty fries w cheddar cheese, garlic, and chive. First, the coffee is pretty good, fresh brewed hot, flavorful to wake me up. Second, my egg bacon plate looked awesome and tasted great. Loved the apricot jam to eat the potatoes, mushrooms. Perfect meal to start my day. I tried the dirty fries and I almost shocked about the crispy, cheesy, grilled garlic flavor of fries. Definitely 5 stars for fries. I've been here a few times. I know it was not universally well received but I personally used to love when it was a ton of Korean American fusion. I think this restaurant's menu peaked around 1-2 years ago with its many innovative and uniquely flavored dishes, but unfortunately that's no longer so. There are only a few Asian inspired-ish dishes left, but they're mostly one-note kimchi or sriracha based sauces. One of their very talented chefs recently left, so I'm not sure if that's why the menu has become so dull. Their prices are awful for how uninspired the dishes are, and for the utter lack of quality control. Expect any fried dish to be almost inedibly greasy and undercooked at the same time. I found some strange hair or thin twig like thing in my Brussels sprouts dish. The stuffed dates which I would normally love came with a thin and flavorless cream cheese dip and gushed with a mouthful of oil when I bit into them. The cream cheese dip was much better with fries than the dates, as the weak flavor was lost when paired with the sweetness of the dates. The burger was alright. I was intrigued by the enoki slaw but it was just okay. The portion of fries was generous, but my partner disliked the lack of crisp of the fresh cut fries. They were alright by me but they were definitely better after a few minutes in the air fryer at home. They came with a sauce that I thought was ketchup but was actually some sweet sriracha concoction. Dessert was coffee ice cream and donuts. I love being surprised and so the mystery donut flavor was tempting for me. It ended up just being strawberry. They were slightly under fried. Both donuts and the ice cream were fine but not great. I liked that they weren't overly sweet, but the boring flavors that didn't complement each other made me wish I had baked dessert at home instead. The presentation of all dishes was completely thoughtless. You will get a lot of stuff just scooped into a bowl. If you order the crumpets for brunch the jam just comes as an ugly dollop on the side of the plate. For how nice the restaurant is, this needs improvement. The ambiance and service are both great. This is absolutely a lovely and atmospheric place to have a fancy meal. But I would say that you are paying more for those elements than for the lackluster food and plating. I've been to the Salted Pig a handful of times and I always enjoy it. It has its own aesthetic. The restaurant feels high end, classy, and fancy. The waiters are helpful and do a wonderful job. They have different menus for each meal. I'm not sure how often they switch out the menus, but I think it's according to the season. There's usually always something new to try on the menu. I've come for their brunch, lunch, and dinner. I was most impressed with the brunch menu and lunch menu, it was great! Every meal I've ordered (even if I was skeptical) blew me away. Every bite is flavorful and delicious. The bill can be a bit steep (unless you're dining on your own) just keep that in mind. We had to ask for those, too. No apologies were given. - Not major, but they seated us at a pretty tight space even though we had a baby in a stroller, despite the availability of better tables with clearly more space to park a stroller. FOOD: - food arrived cold. When we complained about it being cold, the server basically said, "sooo, did you want something else? Or did you want me to warm it up?" Not even an apology, or wn explanation that it wasn't supposed to come out like that. We asked for it to be heated up but came back to us lukewarm. Not an enjoyable eating experience. They did comp the cold pork chop but still, it didn't make the food taste better. - Duck rillette didn't taste like duck. All in all, not a very enjoyable dining experience. This place has gone downhill. My husband and I were ranting and raving about how great this place was so we talked our family out of eating at food lab and walked over to Salted Pig. Huge mistake, they were not busy at all and claimed they didn't have room for us but clearly they just blatantly did not want to serve us. They stated a group of 8 was too large and they wouldn't be able to accommodate smaller parties if they took us. We asked to split into two parties of four and they said well it's still a party of 8. They had several tables open! Couldn't help but feel they were stereotyping us and just didn't want to serve us. Terrible experience! Completely embarrassing. I ordered the duck tamale and my cuz the falafel sandwich. The falafel was so hard and inedible we had to send it back. My duck was underwhelming and spicier than I thought. The masa was too thick and the duck finely shredded I couldn't even tell what meat I was eating. The highlight of our meal were the Brussels sprouts! The kimchi vinaigrette was to die for!!! We didn't ask for any compensation for the overcooked falafel but two of our drinks were comped, and that's why I gave them 4 stars!!! The staff here are incredibly amazing, super nice. Their food here are also to die for as they have a pretty broad selection on their menu. My friends and I dined here a couple of weeks ago and while there were a couple of bumps along the way, the staff made sure to take care of our party efficiently. First there was the drink issue. We didn't receive any of our drinks until 30 min into our dinner. When we asked our server about it she kindly explained that they had ran out of ice and they should be getting some delivered soon. When the drinks were finally brought out, our server then graciously told us that all of our drinks would be taken out of our tab for the inconvenience. We were shocked as we had multiple cocktails and such. Then my friends had a temperature problem with their steak where they said that their steak dishes were not warm at all, it was only them the rest came out fine. Immediately our server comforts them and assures us that they will have it redone. Not to mention that they will also be giving us 50% off the entire bill in addition to removing all of our drinks for all of the inconveniences. Clearly this place cares about the customer experience and makes sure to deal with every issue with much professionalism and kindness. Tried this place out for brunch on a Saturday with a friend. We ordered family style and got grapefruit mimosas, the fried chicken, the endive salad, and hash browns. Fried chicken: 9/10. I thought the chicken was perfectly fried and loved the extra dimension of flavor from the jalapeño jam it came with. The cornbread was a little on the drier side but was still pretty tasty. Endive salad: 7/10. Really liked the tartness of the grapefruit and apple and citrus yogurt dressing with the added crunch and sweetness from the walnuts, though the overall balance seemed a little off, with the tartness overpowering the savoriness and sweetness of the dish.
