Where do I begin. I think geographic differences in terminology led us to trying this place. In New Mexico a Gastropub or brewery means something different - after two attempts in Florida, I realized there it means, bar. We entered through a back door and I quickly pushed the kids out and told them this was the bar part of the business. We walked around and entered from the front which was even more noticeably a bar. We were greeted with a quick hello and some menus were sat in the bar. I was committed at this point even though I could tell my husband was questioning my choice to have our kids dine with the bar patrons who were drinking there at noon. I confidently proceeded to gather orders and try to direct the kids away from asking why they couldn't play with the pool balls. I sent my daughter to look for a table and I could see fear in her face ... this place was dark, heavy metal music was blasting, the only people here were those literally drinking at the bar, and it seemed smoky although I don't think anyone was smoking! She found a table and we sat. They had TVs playing some America's Funniest Home video-esque show which the kids loved. The food came out - took a bit but I wasn't going to complain - and the kids really enjoyed their panini's and the drinks were kept full. We left and let our eyes readjust to the sunlight and drove off with our bellies full. read more

Went in for taco Tuesday. My friend said his pork taco had flavor but was hard to chew & his chicken one was dry. I had pico & chips, it was homemade & decent. I wasn't eager to try the black bean taco. The mango beer was really good. I may go back on a Saturday & see if there's a different crowd. Our bartender was friendly & attentive. Definitely a bar scene... but the tables in the back are great for sit down meals and the food and customer service were INCREDIBLE. Atmosphere was good too. This is a nice eccentric, divey bar in the Eau Gallie downtown. Lots of cool kitschy stuff on the walls give the room some character. They have some good beers on tap, and serve some good food. The panini sandwiches are quite good. We had great service and enjoyed our visit. read more

I went to Salty Fox after work for the first time tonight. I sat in the bar for 2 hours watching a college basketball game on TV. I bought dinner and a few drinks, after which I tipped the bartender a reasonable 20%. With 20 seconds left in a tied basketball game, the bartender announced he was shutting down 10 minutes before the posted closing time. I explained that I'd just watched 2 hours of a game and kindly asked if I could also watch the last 20 seconds. The bartender immediately went on some kind of inexplicable power trip and couldn't get me out into the parking lot fast enough. Salty Fox unfortunately regards its customers as an inconvenience and, as long as they do, I won't be returning. There are plenty of alternative bar-restaurants with equivalent beer lists and menus (several on the same street) where the staff treat the patrons with respect. Unless I have a compelling reason to return to Salty Fox, I'll be supporting competing businesses in the future (and continuing to share my negative experience at Salty Fox). read more

I recently moved to the Melbourne area and hoped to find a friendly place that had good karaoke and decent food. I found a gem. SALTY FOX surprises on both counts. It is an unassuming little place. The karaoke was just starting when i arrived. The place was overflowing so I was lucky to find a spot at the bar. To my surprise people continued to flow in, making me wonder where they were all going to go. That's when I realized there is a second larger bar in a larger room towards the back. Back to the karaoke. It was literally the best karaoke show I've ever seen. For one thing the sound system was amazing, and the lady hosting the show knew how to manipulate the system to get the best quality sound for each singer. Then there's the singers. The Salty Fox- Downtown Eau Gallie- 5 Stars HIDDEN GEM ALERT My gnosis of good food is occasionally challenged by a small cadre of followers who enjoy cheap tasteless food. To wit: Subway, Jimmy John's or Jersey Mikes. I am proud to say I know good food when I find it. It is not hard to prepare original flavorful food. The rub? You have to care about what you serve. The ladies who own the Salty Fox pull this off fantastically. The bad first: This is a noisy pub in the Eau Gallie Arts District and the blaring music and less than stellar service by Stephanie will frustrate some of my followers. However, if you are patient and work with the system, you will find some original dishes, old dishes with a new spin, and a giant selection of craft (I hate that term personally) beer. I started off with Thai chicken noodle soup. When I hear names of things you do not normally associate together I think of the fragrance "Lime Basil & Mandarin," which is a unique scent I always fall hard for. The Thai Chicken soup is an old time chicken soup with a Thai spiced broth and noodles that really sings in your mouth. This was a special--not on the regular menu--and it was good. A menu item that piqued my interest was the lazy deviled eggs. These are hard boiled eggs topped with bacon and a homemade hot sauce that grabbed me with the first bite and refused to let go. They were flavorful and executed with precision. I also ordered the tuna melt. This was a traditional melt yet it was seasoned with a kick in the tookus. Fresh lettuce and tomato go along for the ride. The Big Boy really enjoyed this divey gastropub to the fullest extent possible. Great time, great food. Give it a go. read more

Popped in on the way home. Had no idea that we were going to a bar, but it said food until 11:30 and in Melbourne that's good. We were a bit nervous walking in. It's a basic bar. But asked if they were serving food. We were told yes, until 11:30 so we found a seat at the bar. We were definitely the oldest people there. It was good music, kind of punk modern. Again, had it been more people that area would be a perfect room. The service was great, menu didn't reflect what was on draft, that was a slight let down! The overall place is great, the decor is nice, and local paintings hang from the walls for sale! This is not the bar to go to for brunch. The food was terrible the service was slow! I mean they say it will be slow on the menu but 2 hours to eat! The food was cold and over priced! Wouldn't let us drink out of the water bottle we brought because it was against their rules. However people let their dogs (nonservice) run around without leashes and there are signs everywhere say service dogs only.. seems they pick and choose who can do what . When She Comes Over She Takes Our Order She Walks To Put It On The Tab But She Then Says "Wait What Did You Order"? After She Goes And Gets Another Customer A Beer She Walks Back Ask If We Need A Water Or Anything I Order A Water. She Brings The Water But Not Our Other Drinks So We Wait But, She Then Proceeds To Talk To The Customer She Gave A Beer For A While. At This Point I'm Getting Impatient Because I've Been In The Bar For Almost 45 Minutes Now With No Drink. So I Asked For My Card Back She Says She Has To Hold It While We're There I Stated I Understand That But Were Leaving.
