Absolutely amazing! Had the best apps with the hubby the other night. We've lived in this part of town for a while now and are so happy to see great small businesses like the Sand Dollar thriving! Had Calamari for the first time here and was so impressed (even came with it own sauce!). The manager there, Aaron, was so personable and reminded me of our (now unilaterally estranged) son! We told him this and he was so gracious about it. We'll be sure to come back just to hear his beautiful laugh again. Great people and excellent food. This place is best known for their Poke Bowl, which in fairness is a great dish but unfortunately their only one. Actually, this burger isn't bad. However, I ordered on several different occasions giving them multiple shots thinking that perhaps I was just ordering items that were not their speciality. Wrong. Steer clear from the ONION RINGS, JERK CHICKEN etc. The fries are meh. Nothing special and their sandwiches are dry and assembled with odd ingredients or spices. I wish I would have taken a photo of the ONION RINGS but they went directly into the trash. So deep fried and so rock hard that they were unable to be penetrated by human teeth. They offer a sand dollar sauce that is a type of aioli but it's so putrid and sour that is disgusting. Again, if you stop be sure to get a burger or poke bowl, venturing outside of these items is extremely risky. If you are unsure, give it a try and find out for yourself. read more

I had the crab cakes and a Peach Beach. I've grown up eating crab cakes my whole life and these were definitely some of the most tasty. My husband ate the Jerk Skewers. The jerk sauce was so good we got a bottle of it to go. We chose to eat in their outdoor space which had plenty of room. Waiting staff always had their masks on and they sanitized they table before we sat down. There was also hand sanitizer available for all patrons at the door. I loved eating here and plan to return soon. I hope they stay open long after the COVID19 pandemic is over. read more

I really did not want to write a review of our experience at this new restaurant. I really wanted to like the place because there is a dearth of decent seafood-type restaurants around here, but I cannot recommend the Sand Dollar. We had the crab cake sandwiches with onion rings (me) and French fries (my wife). First the good - the onion rings were okay, not great, but okay. They were not greasy but there wasn't much onion. The service was okay. A bit slow with the check, but friendly. It was downhill from there. The "crab" was virtually non-existent. I couldn't even taste crab in the sandwich I had. It was fishy but not crabby. Too much filler and other fish and not near enough crabmeat. And they weren't cheap. I will not be returning and as I say, I cannot in good faith recommend them and for that I am sorry because I really did want them to be good. read more

I was there on a weeknight for dinner with my family. No one was sitting at the bar, but one of the televisions over the bar was showing a violent movie. We politely asked the bartender to change it, since no one was watching, and we didn't want our young kids watching battle scenes of a war movie. The bartender insisted it was PG (it wasn't) but begrudgingly switched to another channel, where minutes later someone is literally being tortured on the screen. We pointed it out and politely (even apologetically) asked if it could be changed again, and the bartender raised his voice at us. Apparently he felt these scenes were completely acceptable for pre-schoolers to watch, and wanted us to know we were being ridiculous to think otherwise. Mind you, he had zero customers sitting at the bar, and he is now yelling at one of the few customers in this restaurant. Our waiter tried to smooth things over, but was clearly embarrassed by his coworker. No one came over to apologize - seemingly, this type of behavior is acceptable. If there was a manager or owner there, they must have been aware - the restaurant was pretty empty, so it was not hard at all to hear the bartender yelling at us in front of our kids. There aren't too many locally owned restaurants around here, so it is a shame that we can't support this one. We've ordered food to-go from here regularly for the last few years, but don't plan on returning. read more

Great "beachy" feel in this clean, upbeat restaurant. Food was great!! We got everything from salad, to a burger, to Mahi and all amazing!! And the service was just as impressive! Wanted to love this place since it's a cute, small local business,yet, the server we had was inattentive and not friendly. Had a party of 4 there to celebrate and would have drank and ate more if she was around. The food was okay but nothing special. The burger was greasy, salad seemed small, jerk chicken wrap was incorrectly made, never got a refill on my tea or was asked, and we only had one round of alcoholic drinks since she never tried to offer or ask if we were finished. Left to continue the celebration somewhere else. Would return and sit at the bar, as the bartender seemed happy to help. read more

The restaurant itself is cute and charming with an outer banks style beach chic. I wanted to love the food as this location is very convenient to my house and it seems like a family-owned kind of place. The prices are fair and menu has enough choices for everyone. Our food; however, was not good at all. I had the crab cake sandwich with side salad, my husband had the beef burger with side salad, son had chicken sandwich and daughter had a turkey burger. All of the sandwich meat tasted like low quality frozen patties. The crab cake tasted like mostly breading. We ate about 1/3-1/2 of our meals and decided the taste just was not worth the calories (although daughter ate her turkey burger because she said it was just as good as the food she eats in her college cafeteria). After paying our bill, the server said that one of the owners was in the back and she could her for us. The owner was very welcoming of the feedback and said they wanted to continually improve. She gave us a $15 gift card for a future visit since we'd already paid for this visit. I will give then some more time and then maybe go back for smoothies or salads rather than cooked meals for a while. It's a big investment of time and money to open a restaurant, so I hope they are able to improve and make this a place we will go to regularly. read more

Really nice environment, it will make you feel like you are at a beach vacation cafe. We sat ourselves, as directed by a hanging sign, only to figure out 10 minutes later that they were signing people in, and a few tables including ours were missed because of the miscommunucation. No big deal, they were very busy, a little short staffed, but a lot of things are worth the wait. Our waitress was pleasant, and very attentive once she came to our table. They use crushed ice! Yaay! We got the onion rings as an app, which were battered and came with a great southwestern ranch dip. For $8, the basket was huge, and well worth the price. I got the jerk chicken sandwich with fries (that came with a honey mustard dip-yum!!) It was perfectly spiced, and a very generous size. The chicken was a tiny bit tough in spots, so probably a bit overcooked, but still really delicious. My husband had the mahi mahi bowl. Generous portion, with a delicious sauce, and a nice mixture of veggies, pineapple, and rice. He did say his fish was slightly overcooked, but still tasted really great. We will definitely be back. The place had a great vibe, reasonable prices, and nice selection. read more

Went to Sand Dollar for a late lunch with family Tge menu has a nice selection of items. My daughter enjoyed the chicken club sandwich . My son got the calamari but put a little too spicy sauce on it. I enjoyed my burger. The alcohol drink menu had a nice selection. We purchased a few different mixed drinks and each were made well. Visited from PA with my daughter and stopped in for a late breakfast in the AM. It's very nice and bright inside. Definitely gives a great beach vibe. Didn't order much as we were in a bit of a rush - an açaí bowl and a bagel w/cream cheese with drinks. All very good. It wasn't busy at the time (2 other tables) but the service did take a bit. Now being from PA, I have to remind myself that we were in the south, and it's a different pace. So the wait was tolerable. The young lady who sat and served us was very nice and even apologized for the wait without me mentioning it. I definitely recommend this place. It's fun inside and looked like there was a bar that would be cool later in the day. There was also outdoor seating with umbrellas and string lights that continued the beach feel. It's hard to find a good Acai bowl, and this one is up there with the best of them, and for an amazing price. I also love the onion rings with the delicious sauce they come with, and the avocado toast with eggs on top is yummy too. The owners are super friendly and there's a great community atmosphere here. The food here is great...beach theme is cool but friendly service is where they lack. Especially if it's to go. There is one guy that works there who's at the bar and doesn't seem to care about people or their orders. I had an order and he practically threw it to me as if he was disgusted by the fact I was there. To call my experience subpar is a vast understatement. Started with the "Crab Bruschetta on Crostini ". Apparently, crostini = toasted Wonder Bread. Crab topping was sparse and mayonnaise flavored. Followed with the grilled jerk chicken sandwich . The chicken had obviously been grilled sometime last week and reheated in the microwave. Overall texture was like rubber on a bun. My wife had the crabcake wrap, which was mostly flavorless. Plastic plates and cups in case you're 5 years old or younger. Definitely will not return, save your money, literally any other option is better. read more
