The best sandals you'll ever find! I bought my sandals out of pure necessity in 2018. I was at the OC fair with my dad and suddenly my Target sandals broke, right before we were heading in to see a concert. He found the Sandalman booth and there I was looking at the selection. I already had 2 pairs of rainbows at home and was a little hesitant at dropping $60 on sandals, spur of the moment. But I did anyways and they were THE BEST sandals hands down I've had in my 40 years of living in SoCal. The way they shape to your feet, the quality of craftsmanship, they are comfortable from the start - NO crazy breaking in and wrecking your foot, the durability. Just everything. They are built well. I absolutely LOVE them and would tell everyone about them. A friend of mine who is "big and tall" went in to the shop and got a pair custom made - and he swears by them too! We had a good 7 year run and those babies were put through the ringer! That is until our new doggie got to the straps. I'll be ordering a new pair ASAP. Thank you for such quality sandals. read more

I feel so blessed to have found "The Sandalman", Scott and his family team handcrafting sandals doing custom work and actually "caring" about the customer. I had been a customer of Rainbow Sandals for over 30 years never had foot problems till past years when the sandals would be wearing out quick, getting food pain. I was infuriated, as I was having foot pain, and I have trouble with finding good shoes as I have 7 1/2 foot 2E but with narrow heal and mild pronation. Anyway my massage therapist mentioned Scott and I came down. I realized I met him and his brother many years ago when I was boy and their shop was on Old Newport, and then at The OC Swap Meet. Anyway Scott spent a great deal of time helping me, discussing arch, sanding to foot shape, as well as some beautiful unique designer styles and I purchased 2 pairs -- one a black embossed leather which he was able to shape to my foot quickly and one on order with a gorgeous burgundy crocodile strap that needed to be tightened. It is obviously this company takes great pride in their work, and has not sold out to shady cheap crap like most sandal stores. I will send all my friends who have been having sandal problems (mostly due to Rainbow-getting shotty) to Scott. As an artist developer myself, it is always such a pleasure to meet other artists that not only care about quality, elegant design but actually listen to the customer. I feel safe that if anything changes with my foot or I need custom sandals, Scott and his team will take good care of me. I just wish I knew about them sooner. Sadly a lot of incredible "Mom and Pop" operations go under the radar. The sad thing is I used to live in that area and even with directions it was a little hard to find. But the shop has great variety in styles. Scott and his family are the REAL Deal. His life background in Hawaii too made it so easy to converse. Not the typical high pressure salesman or idiots that don't know what they are doing. Truly a very enjoyable experience. I use to buy these sandals in the 1979-2010 and I still have my sandals and they still are good to wear. I use to order them at the Orange County fairgrounds swap meet, he use to have my foot penciled out on a piece of paper with my name on it and that's how he kept my size. With sandals it's difficult to find a pair that has arch support and durable. The sandalman was able to achieve all of that, and made in the USA. I sent a email and Scott was able to address all my concerns and needs making me a beautiful, supportive, comfortable sandal. After figuring out that their location isn't directly on Superior, I walked into what can only be described as a working museum of sandal culture. Simply awesome!! Perfect fit and comfort. My only regret is NOT finding him sooner!!! OC fair has everything and I'm happy Sandalman decided to put up his shop there also. No pressure browsing and once I saw the color I liked he mentioned the different soles and their weight difference. Then he said to put them on and walk around a bit so I can trim the excess off. That blew me away since I've never seen someone trim shoes to my feet. And let me tell how awesome they feel especially since I'm flat footed. They are the same price as the other high priced sandals in the local stores so you couldn't beat that added bonus. They have a size range for us bigger feet people and my flips came in like air craft carriers. Ordered online and Scott reached out the next day. He wanted more info on size, toes, width, toe box width and away he went. I was sent text messages with photo updates on my flips every few days. When they arrived I was excited to try them on. They fit like a glove and are the most comfortable flips I've ever worn. So much so that I've gone in the closet and tossed all of the others out. O'Neil's, gone. Rainbows, gone. AMAZING sandals and flip flops here. If you're looking to buy high quality hand-made shoes for the same cost as rainbows or Tevas, this is your place! Upon walking in the store, Scott greeted us with a smile and a handshake, introducing himself and the business he has been a part of for the last 27 years!! The customer service was unbeatable, and Scott was so patient as my boyfriend and I tried on many different pairs of shoes. At one point, Scott even looked down at the Teva sandals I was wearing, noticed some wear and tear, and fixed them up right in front of us (no charge)!!! By far this was the nicest experience I have ever had shopping for sandals, and the great experience was matched by the incredible selection of sandals and flip flops that they had. There were so many pairs to choose from, and Scott honestly explained the pros and cons of each model of shoe. Furthermore, Scott is the kind of guy who really wants your purchase to be perfect. When my boyfriend picked out his sandals, Scott asked him to walk around in them to get comfortable. Scott then made markings on the shoe where the fit could be better, and SANDED the shoes down to the perfect size!! All of this came at no extra charge! After seeing the other Yelp reviews, I headed over to their location. It's located off Superior street, in a commercial warehouse building, across from the Hoag Medical Building. They have ladies sandals in the front, and mens sandals are located towards the back of the building. I was greeted quickly, and directed to the selection of custom sandals. I was quickly able to find the perfect pair that were both stylish and very comfortable! The soles of these sandals are Vibram brand, so are lightweight and should last. Now I just need to ensure I keep them away from my two dogs so they WILL last! read more

These guys are world class. There is a reason why they have been in business for 25 years. However their only advertising is the VW bus they have parked on Superior Blvd. so nobody knows about them. Scott is world class I've been wearing his Sandals for 7 years and the strap gave out, of course due to my own fault. He fixed my gold flip flop strap right away and made sure they fit right. I'm moving to Guam for a few years he even helped me out picking out three more pairs since I'll be living in paradise. The sandals Scott help me pick out are gorgeous every where I've gone on Guam I've been stopped and asked where I got them... If your ever in Guam Scott there is differently a market for you here.. It is located in a strip mall and easy to overlook but a great find. We would recommend this place without reservation. This is not a flashy store with big designer windows or anything like that. I've been getting my gorgeous leather sandals (and "working man's sandals" Scitt has renamed "The no flop flip flop) from these guys since the 70's and they were at the Ora ge County Swap meet. Then went to their modest little store right off Newport Blvd, and now to the store and "factory" in Costa Mesa on Superior. If they read these reviews, I'll probably jog their memory with what I started out buying from them - closed toe huarachis! Man I loved those for every day work, but their source dried up. These guys are the real deal - MADE IN AMERICA! I know they have a GREAT Asian demand because of the quality as well. Both guys are very down to earth, and might even talk a little sass to you (well, maybe if you've been a customer of theirs for over 40 years!). They're masters at their craft and creative and make good on their word and back their product. You may pay more than you will for other brands, but you'll get a LOT more than the other brands offer in quality, longevity, craftsmanship, and standing behind their product. Time for a new set of the 3 strap leather sandals (they should have pictures on their website), and a new set of "Crabbers" - as I see Jessie T's review off to the right - that's their version of Uggs with natural materials so your feet don't turn into a sweatbox after 3 minutes of wear. As I recall, probably 10 years or so ago, I asked them if they did anything like Uggs, but I complained about how quickly my feet got too hot in them. Knowing their business, they explained it had to do with the type of glue and materials used in Uggs that don't allow the foot to breath. I THINK at the time, they had stopped making the Crabbers for a while, but then my request go them to make me a pair (which I think the looks completely blew away the Uggs!), and it sounds like they're a regular item again. My "working man's sandals" (double, extra wide, nylon straps) are still in good shape from my last purchase - over 2 years ago, that I'll wear to do yard work and other stuff when I don't want to mess up my leather "dress" sandals. Those are pretty much the only things my feet walk around in when I'm not at work, with not much of that going on these days, ad I finish this review at least a year after I started it, and were starting to recover from Civid-19. My "dress" sandals (the gorgeous 3 strand leather) are starting to get a little ratty from my sweaty feet - I basically live in those when I'm not at work, same age as the working sandals. Update since writing that: When u went to replace those leather sandals, I noticed Scott had something different on his feet than I did. Mire padding, and exotic looking "leather,",and more padding in the footbed. He says "well I spend mr entire day in here on the mostly concrete and being the designer, of course I'm going to come up with some mods " . So now I have 2 pair of BUFFALO hide, more padding, made to the outline of my foot (!) sandals that I get compliments on almost every time I'm out. Comments from EVERYONE and all cultures from the yacht folks down at the beach and where I live in Garden Grove now where my Hispanic neighbors who appreciate fine leather work. And yes, they cizt a little more. But I doubt know any other place where I could begin to even ask someone about making something line this FOR ME! I never would have even thought about that buffalo hide, more padding version. I'll bet you I'm happier than you are every day when you slip your feet into what you're going to walk around in! Can't wait to go down tomorrow and get my new prototype "improved working man's sandal / aka " ni floo flip flop " (I'm going to have to come up with a name for them before I see him). Were trying a working sandal with more padding, and a more durable compound for the sole. And lastly, the picture made me a little sad of the two of them. Scott lost Pat last year. Please be nice to him. Thanks for keeping my feet breathing air a d walking on leather instead of synthetics for the last 45 (!) years Scott! And no, I'm not a relative, or even a neighbor. In 2007 I was referred to The Sandalman by my Podiatrist. For years I was unable to wear store bought sandals since they lacked the arch support that my feet so desperately needed. My experience at The Sandalman was one of the more refreshing experiences in any sale-environment. The owner is knowledgeable and will talk you through the different operations he is performing and what you may need to do in your other shoes to make them more comfortable. This place is where i will be going for the foreseeable future for my sandal needs. I went in for custom fit sandals because i pronate (my ankles turn in) something that makes my knees and back hurt quite a bit. The sandals that they have made me, within the past few days of wearing them, have done wonders for my knee and back pain. I am a repeat customer of Scott the Sandalman. I grew up in the area and many family members wear shoes made by Scott. I think my first pair was a gift from my mom when I was about 7 or 8, they were the tall boots (so much better than Uggs because they have a sole with arch support). Although I do not have those same pair from when I was 7 or 8 I do have boots that must be at least 15 years old and I love them. I went to the faire last night with my husband and I wore a pair of shoes that was giving me blisters. Its the perfect excuse for a new pair of sandals I thought to myself ;) I knew Scott would be there because he is every year selling his great shoes. I walked in and the lady pointed me to the smallest sizes they had I tried a few on and decided on a pair. Scott offered to make them a little smaller for me... I just purchased my first pair of Sandalman sandals at the OC Fair! I actually discovered the booth at last year's fair. I instantly fell in love with the look of the sandals but didn't want to make my friend wait while I tried some on. I bookmarked the Sandalman website and planned to make the drive from Joshua Tree to then shop but never did. This year my friend went to the Fair without me and the texted me that she had bought Sandalman sandals there and is loving them! So I went yesterday and bought a pair. I love them. I've only taken them off to sleep over the past 2 days. I found a cute strappy pair that hides my ugly bunion toes and the arch support feels so good! If I weren't retired and earning less than I used to I would have left the fair with at lest 3 pairs. American made, hand crafted and beautiful.
