My Wife described this place perfectly. She said this place serves elevated comfort food. This is also a spot where I think the food is about a 4.5, but again, really friendly staff easily pushed it to a 5. I ordered the Kentucky which is friend chicken on a biscuit with house bacon, cheddar cheese, and apple beer jam. This is something I'd normally not order, but it was advertised as a specialty and I gave it a shot. The biscuit was magnificent. It was moist, flaky, and buttery. The fried chicken was seasoned well. It wasn't very crispy, but I think that's understandable since it had so much going on. The bacon was cooked a bit less but Han I'd like, but was thick and delicious. The Apple jam did add a nice contrast and I felt like it was good enough on its own to be tasty on a piece of toast. I had a piece of sausage and hash items to go along with it and the hash-browns were just ok for me. The sausage was bordering on being too spicy for me, but it wasn't bad. If you're in the throes of middle age, like myself, I'd probably bring an antacid if you get the sausage. My Wife had eggs which she really enjoyed. She had a piece of brioche toast which was amazing. It tasted like a buttery cloud. As far as beverages, they have house sodas , some beer, and mimosas if you're coming in later in the morning. The restaurant is very spacious and has wifi as well - great for a working breakfast or lunch! Came back again to use my gift card. Got the avo toast. It came on French toast bread which I thought could have came when I ordered French toast last time? The French "toast" was not toasted and very soggy/ mushy since it's not toasted. Couldn't eat it. I don't write bad reviews very much but shocked that someone could like this. Local gem that's worth any effort to locate. Don't be surprised by a long line and limited seating because it's that good. Super friendly staff greets you at the order counter and get your requests back to the kitchen. There must be a hundred people in the kitchen because there is little wait and the food comes out hot and ready to eat. Some of the menu options seem a bit weird but the combinations are a work of art. From the PA, an oatmeal bowl with raisins and apples, to the Kentucky, a knife ready chicken biscuit that is sure to satisfy a big appetite. Sure there are a few iconic diners here in Billing's worth checking out but if you're only here for a day this needs to be your only stop. read more

Maybe those who dine here frequently understand the setup better and receive attention from the staff, but if this is your first time and it is unclear to you that you need to go to the counter to order and then sit down, be prepared for some eye rolling and waiting at an empty counter for many minutes, even on a Friday morning when only half of the tables are occupied. The prices are slightly at the high end of the scale, but the food is quite good. The blueberry and lemon glaze waffles were divine and the Louisiana Purchase bowl was a nice take on shrimp and grits. To be fair, this is a far better food option than IHOP or Denny's, but you'll come away from those chain locations feeling like they were happy you came in and appreciated your business. By far the most delightful find on our way through Billings, Montana. Not only does the menu have something for everyone, but the ambiance is absolute perfection. I will be dreaming of the Carolina Monte Cristo forever. It was delicious as was my vanilla chai latte. My husband had two perfect eggs over easy and sausage and enjoyed it, even if he thought the spice on the sausage was a bit harsh. He had a regular coffee and said it was the best tasting coffee he's had on our whole trip. A message for vegans and gluten free people: call ahead to make sure they have options in stock and/or don't bother. On a recent trip, we went specifically because of the vegan and gluten free options. When we got there, we were told there were no vegan or gluten free biscuits available. I ended up getting the vegan gravy on the side to have with some potatoes and it tasted like they used a sweetened carton milk to make it, so it had a weird and unwelcome sweetness. Tasting that, it may have been a blessing that I couldn't get the vegan biscuit and gravy. They also don't really understand what "vegan" means because there is messaging in the menu and in store that eggs are vegan. I didn't try the oatmeal option, which could have been good. If you're not vegan or gluten free, you may really enjoy it. Everyone else we could see was getting the gluten biscuits and it seemed fine. I came away feeling like Billings doesn't have as many options as you might hope for people with food allergies. read more

The interior was decorated really fun - the tables & chairs were all different heights, sizes, etc (plush fabric chairs, wood benches, high chairs, stools). Everyone in our party really enjoyed our breakfast. I had the Louisiana Purchase, which was shrimp & grits and very delicious & flavorful and rivals any I've had in the Deep South. My husband had the Kitchen Sink. The sage seasoning made his entree so flavorful - it paired perfectly with the potatoes & sausage. We each had cappuccinos, which were quite large & delicious. My parents both enjoyed the Sojourner, which was biscuit batter cooked in a waffle iron & served with fresh strawberries & Chantilly (whipped) cream - the both enjoyed their entree too. I've heard such great feedback about this place I really wanted to come in and try it. We arrived around noon, and the line was back to the door, about half the tables were occupied, and the rest needed to be bused and cleaned. They looked extremely short staffed, as everything was backed up. After waiting 25 mins in line to order, we waited another hour to get our food. While waiting, we watched a group of the staff that were there play outback taking aprons to cover the cooks motorcycle to protect it from the rain, while a server took a vape break. The chef slipped and fell while he was out there leaving one young lady to cook everything by herself until the other cook could get it together and get back to work. I'm not sure who the supervisor was, but it looked like a bunch of kids running the place. The food was dry. I ordered the 'Kitchen Sink'. The potatoes tasted like leftovers that have been sitting in the fridge since last week, and just got reheated. The gravy looked like it was scraped off the bottom of the bin after it's been sitting in a heater all day. I had dirty dishes that were left on the bar in front of me while I ate. I had to ask for my tea, which was just water. Very disappointing experience overall. God bless the young lady that was left cooking, she just kept her head down and got work done. The dish cleaner worked admirably as well, staying focused on getting everything the female cook needed and getting dishes done. You need a supervisor, a strong front room person, and figure out how to get your potatoes to not taste stale. Best of luck. read more

Ordered the Bennie - which comes in a bowl with a mixture of potatoes, onions, peppers, and meat which is then all topped off with a thick gravy, an egg (cooked to your liking) and, of course, a biscuit. Had a strawberry/jalapeño soda which had a slight bite but not bad. We came a few weeks ago and it was overcrowded, all the empty tables were dirty with others waiting for a table so we left, thinking it was a busy Sunday. We came back for a late breakfast on a Monday, they weren't busy, and still every empty table (12 of them) was dirty. Took up 5 minutes to order and another 17 to get a table, only after asking to have it cleaned. We waited another roughly 10 minutes to be brought our coffee, which were spilled all over the cup and saucer to the point I had to clean off the table and cup. In total we waited 40 minutes for our food, with maybe 5 other small parties in front of our 2 plates. Portions were decent but it cost $42 for chicken and waffles, a bacon egg and cheese biscuit, and two coffees. The redeeming quality was the food was pretty decent. Biscuits are great, 5 stars, but the rest of the food was mid, 3 stars. Aesthetic was 5 stars, very cute. Employees were very kind, 5 stars, but it seems management is more worried about their instagram than their guests. I also have managed a restaurant for over a decade and spotted numerous food safety concerns. Also, because I've worked in the service industry, I give a lot of grace for "you never know what else they're dealing with right now", and hate leaving negative reviews off one experience. But this definitely feels like more than surface level, it feels like this is the standard, and I'm extremely underwhelmed.
