The Bolognese sauce we purchased looked ok , tasted just ok but hubby and I both had a bit of intestinal issues after eating it sorry to say. So this place is a Definite No for us. We went to dinner at the house of a friend who served lasagne and Bolognaise sauce from the Sauce Lady. This was some of the best carry out I've had in my life! The pasta wasn't over cooked (which often happens with reheated food) and her flavors are authentic and well balanced (I've been to Italy so I compare the Bolognaise to my memory of the sauce on my trip). The couple who hosted the dinner has also been to Italy and agreed that it was a dinner that could have been served there. If you're looking for a fun, easy option to have a delicious meal, avoid crowds and loud places (so you can visit with those you're sharing the meal with) I highly recommend the sauce lady as a very good option. read more

I had heard a lot of different opinions about the Sauce Lady, so I went to try it for myself. In thinking about my experience, there are two considerations. The first is the Lady herself. She is a lot. She has a very strong, in your face personality which can leave some wanting a bit warmer bedside manner. There is little time for browsing as she is locking in on you when you enter her store and processing you in and out. It was a little much for me, but it's genuine and she seems like a very hardworking small business owner. I can live with that. The second consideration is the food. I have to say I was really underwhelmed and as other reviews have mentioned, it was very expensive. I purchased a 16oz Bolognese along with a 10 pack of small meatballs. It was $25. I know we're in Naples, but still... I found the bolognese was one note, very garlicky and tasted like it was just made of 100% ground sausage. I did not care for it.Traditionally bolognese is a mix of ground veal, pork and beef in a lighter creamy sauce. This was dark, very dense and looked like a ground beef chili. As for the meatballs, they were really dense and not very flavorful. As you can see in the picture I'm not sure how they were cooked. With the lack of color they don't appear to be cooked in the oven or on the stove. Taste is an individual thing and I mean no disrespect to a hardworking business owner, but I just don't think this is very good Italian. read more

Had a large pan of lasagna made with only beef for a party, it was absolutely AMAZING! A grand slam with the others who ate it!

I finally walked in and had a chance to experience the reviews. I purchased several items that were priced higher than expected but after the owner proclaimed how her ingredients were high quality and that the $26 for a very small container of seafood canaloni had lobster scallops shrimp and crabmeat I thought the price was expected. When I arrived home I cooked the food as directed and served telling my family the same however my son pointed out that the crab was imitation and a majority of the seafood was comprised of this meat. I'm not surprised I said. It seems these days business owners have taken the route of deception and deliver a lower quality at high prices with no pause for guilt on how they treat their local clients. It's close to the season and this owner will probably go even lower to scam those who walk through her door. I'm sorry I can't continue to support this kind of business mentality which I term " a hand in the pocket with a smile. ". You may think so it's one dish but that's never where it ends. Often I try to support local merchants but in this instance, I suggest save yourself 30-50% overcharge and go to Whole Foods or Fresh Market whose standards are consistent and whose practices are monitored. read more

The Sauce Lady is actually a second generation Italian cook in a family who have had restaurants and now a well-reputed presence at local Farmers Markets. Her retail outlet on J&C provides fresh and frozen Italian sauces, soups, and entrees beginning at about $8 per pound. The food was ok. Garlic bread not buttery but dry. Spent over 250.00 on lunch for my office. When I asked if I could pick up a little sauce the next day because the vegetable lasagna was mostly solid pasta very little cheese and from what I could tell frozen crinkle cut carrots and again DRY. The Sauce Lady is a perfect answer - I swing by, pick up some sauce, soup, perhaps Ravioli or a Tiramisu - slide it into a pan or pot - and serve a chef prepared Italian feast at home. No crowds, no rush , and little to no clean up! All the sauces are amazing. We love the meat ravioli. The Tiramisu is perfect. She makes yummy Panini's that can be eaten onsite at lunch - or carried away for dinner. Do you remember what it was like being a kid in an ice cream store or candy shop? And how hard the decisions were? The Sauce Lady is just like that for grown ups - every choice looks better than the last, and if you aren't careful you will walk out with food for 20 when there are only 2 of you! As a first time customer, I went in to purchase some hot and mild Italian sausage, I had called first to ask if they had fresh sausage, I was told yes but when I got there they were only frozen. I bought 2 packages anyway to add to my homemade sauce for dinner tonight. At dinner, both my husband and I were very disappointed at how soft and mushy the consistency was. I decided to call and let them know about our experience. The owner answered, I introduced myself and she remembered me right away because we had discussed how she suggested I cook them. She immediately became defensive and said that I was the first person ever who had a problem with her sausage, she uses them in everything and no one has ever has told her anything like this. I told her I put them in my sauce on a very low simmer for 4 hours, she said: "why on earth would you do that, you overcooked them!" I'm a decent cook, this isn't the first time I've made homemade sauce with sausage, I've cooked it many times this way for years and never experienced mushy sausage like this. She wasn't at all polite, actually, she was quite put off and upset and actually said "I dont know what to tell ya, don't cook them so long next time." Well get ready for this one. I am still at a loss of words for my experience here. I will just tell you what happened when I first walked in from Joe's Diner next door. So I wanted to see what this place was all about and I came in walked around and "The Sauce Lady" asked me what I was looking for. I said "Do you make subs like it says on your door" and she replied "No! Joes Diner is stealing my business!" Uh OK, sorry. Then I made the second mistake of asking her about how this place is like that other Italian place over on Pine Ridge in the Bed Bath Beyond Plaza. Wow what a mistake that was to mention that place. She flipped her lid and told me to never mention that name to her again. She then told me to make myself useful and help an old lady customer with her bags to go to her car. So I did because that's what good people do. I went back inside and she asked what I wanted. I said I dunno might as well try some Meatballs and Sauce. She tells me I'm going to love them. Well I went home and they were alright. I can't really compare them to much, but they made me gassy. I don't know if that is normal or not. Bottom line is she is lucky I'm from New England and can handle her bitchy attitude, but if she keeps it up with other customers I don't see her lasting long. The sauce eliminates the need to travel to an excellent Italian restaurant. Many times I've worked all afternoon to make fresh sauce that can't come close to The Sauce Lady. Pick the pasta of your choice, and add either bolognese (beef or sausage) or mix them if you like, and you have a wonderful pasta experience. read more

This place sucks.......did you hear that? Unfortunately we wanted a tray of lasagna that we had a gift certificate for.We phoned and were told they would be open on Christmas eve and we could stop by to get one, but if we wanted to be sure, they would put one in our name. She then (Angela ) asked for a CC to put our name on it. I clearly asked if she was going to charge it and she said no, its just to hold. Unfortunately on Christmas Eve I had to get my Mom into Healthpark for CHF - Chronic Heart Failure - it was serious and the Lasagna was the last thing on my mind. I noticed yesterday they charged me $65. I called and Angela apolgized and promised to reverse the charges, today I phoned and was screamed at by the owner Ella, telling me it was made to order and too bad, I suggest you do not shop there and ever give them your cc number. PS I have a gift certificate which was going to pay for the Lasagna anyway, now it will go to waste, I wouldn't ever deal with anyone who does not know how to speak or take care of a customer. The meals we had tonight, picked up this morning, were not very good. I don't think the other reviewers have ever had good Italian food. The eggplant parmesan was not seasoned and the eggplant oily from not being fried in hot enough oil.
