It's the one jarring note in an otherwise pleasant room. Out front, a Farmer Brothers truck idles like a warning - we aren't coffee people One hopes it's just a driver getting breakfast but I see the logo on the carafes and decide against coffee. The menu, though, is a happy surprise. Nearly every item carries a little twist that lifts it above standard breakfast fare, even if everything runs about five dollars more than the neighborhood norm. They're serving wild boar for breakfast, for God's sake. That kind of ambition gets my attention. The staff are sharp in their uniforms, moving with quiet professionalism. A couple of tables lingered with dirty dishes when I arrived, but by the time I finished my meal, the place had been quietly set right. I started with the biscuit and gravy which came out early. It was solidly good -- the kind of honest, homemade plate the name "Scratch Room" demands -- but it didn't ascend to the remarkable. The potatoes were thick, rough shreds, nicely griddled but crying out for salt and seasoning. The real star was the chile verde draped across a cheese omelette. Just a handful of pale pork chunks, barely seared if at all, stewed until they reached a tender, uniform softness I immediately filed away for my own kitchen experiments. The sauce itself was beautifully balanced: bright, peppery, properly spicy, with no greasy heaviness weighing it down. I loved it. The water, of all things, tasted unusually clean -- filtered, served in those retro blue plastic cups that look brand new. Next time I'll be ordering their famous banana bread. Had a great experience the first time and since me and my boyfriend was in Orange County, I decided we should come back for some breakfast here and I had mixed feelings. The server we initially had was amazing, she was so sweet and funny and checked in on us. Didn't catch her name but she was an older lady. She went on break, and the new server didn't check in on us, just came and dropped the check on the table and never came back. Didn't even get to ask if we needed any boxes to go. I ended up having to walk up to the counter to pay where another server had an attitude as well. She just told me to leave it on the table. No bye no thank you for dining with us just RBF. Food wise, it was good. $12 for a stack of pancakes seems steep but it was good. The Asada skillet was decent, the steak was a little bit on the cooked side than what I prefer. You gotta get here early or after the rush because otherwise there's a nice little wait. And since they make everything fresh then it's understandable why there's a wait. This last time we came the service was great. Communicative and checking if things are all well. Sad news was they don't have the classic breakfast burger anymore. Heard that some people complained it was too spicy?! Those complainers ruined it for those of us that like spicy they made their sausage on that breakfast burger make you love no other sausage lol. Well the chorizo breakfast burger is the next in line that was hearty and yummy with the side of potato wedges. The children French toast and mini pancakes are always a hit. Great bfast spot in town. Called to ask if they had bottomless mimosas the lady did not know, she said she was going to ask and then just gave the phone to someone eles. She never said her name which was odd I asked her if they had offered bottomless mimosas and said i dont know, i said oh you do not know if your restaurant has it? And she said no. I was oh okay and she like stayed quiet for a moment they said um we sell alcohol yes. And i was like but i am wondering about the bottomless mimosas and the new lady who came to the phone had told me they have been selling alcohol for about 3 days so I do not think the reviews/serch are accurate saying they have bottomless mimosas. Came here after the gym for some good home hardy carbs. We were greeted and seated right away. Staff were very friendly, service was excellent and quick. Restaurant is quite large with lots of tables, clean and welcoming. It had a nice vibe. Our food came out great and quickly. My omelette was very well made. Located in a small shopping plaza, with plenty of free parking, and easily accessible off of the 5 freeway exit Magnolia. We placed our name on the waiting list which was on a clipboard outside the front door and waited about 15 minutes, there were 4 other groups ahead of us. We were seated in a half booth table and happily sat down because I had this restaurant bookmarked for quite some time, many years, and finally had the chance to try this popular breakfast/brunch spot. I ordered the country fried steak which was a skillet with potatoes and 3 overeasy eggs, with a biscuit and gravy on the side (all come together for this meal), and was very filling. I enjoyed the batter of the country fried steak which was light and flaky, yet not too over the top with the breading and still allowed me to taste the thin steak without being too overpowering. The gravy for both the country fried skillet and the biscuit had nice small bits of sausage, would have appreciated a little more gravy, but still tasted great. So if you want to have a breakfast with a menu of many options from traditional to Mexican, then no need to scratch your head on where to go, just make your way to The Scratch Room! read more

After dropping my car off to get serviced, we headed over here for breakfast. It was pouring rain and we decided we wouldn't wait longer than 15 minutes. Lucky for us, as soon as we walked up, a woman came outside and said "Just two of you? I have a table right here." We got the last open table at 9:45 AM on a Saturday. By the time we left there were at least 20 people outside waiting. For this place being as packed as it was, the service was great. We were there about 45 minutes and never had to wait for anything, everybody was totally on top of it. The food was very good. I had heard about their banana bread so I ordered a side of it, but the waitress told me it was already an option for my meal. This place is NOT messing around! I had the Original Eggs Benedict, it came with a choice of potatoes, hash browns or fruit, AND a side of toast, banana bread or biscuits and gravy. Wow! Banana bread came out first, a large slice, steaming hot, with yummy salty butter. We loved this, it reminded us of a cross between cornbread and a muffin, it was definitely more savory than sweet. My Original Eggs Benedict was very good, although I thought the sauce could be a bit richer in taste. The Canadian bacon was tender and flavorful, eggs poached perfectly, loads of well cooked potatoes, onions, and one, lonely piece of red bell pepper on the side. Husband got the Chorizo Bacon Burger, which the menu states is "chorizo seasoned bacon," so he was expecting bacon slices. What he got was loose chorizo crumbles that tasted like bacon. It was really tasty, but not what he was expecting. His hash browns were fine. The bill was $41 for our two meals and one iced tea. I think we would come back here again, not sure how long we would stick around if there was a long wait though. read more

The Scratch Room is such a solid breakfast spot! The food is fantastic and the portions are absolutely massive. I got the chicken fried benedict and it was excellent. Everything on the menu looks amazing and it always hits the spot. The inside is super clean and the servers are awesome. They are always so friendly, quick, and really go out of their way to make sure you are taken care of. The manager even came out to check on us and was super nice, which I really appreciated. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the hostess experience. When my wife and I arrived, she would not seat us until our full party was there, even though our family was literally right around the corner and there were plenty of tables open for a party of five. It was really hot outside and felt unnecessary. Thankfully, one of the servers stepped in, got us seated right away, and immediately brought water and coffee while apologizing for the wait. Once everyone arrived, they got our order in super fast and the food came out quickly. I'm usually not the type to write comments but I wanted to bring this to other customers attentions since I don't see it mentioned. My sister and I were on our way to Disneyland and decided to grab some breakfast outside of the park. We saw that The Scratch Room had great reviews and decided to try them out. We ordered the protein bowl and chile verde omelette along with their scratch made loaf. The loaf was ahmazing! We loved it and paired with the salted whipped butter, perfect combo. The chile verde was good along with a side of potatoes were also tasty but the steak in the protein bowl was so hard to eat. It barely any taste to it and I added not only black pepper and salt but also Tabasco. The steak was raw and was full of veins I could not even chew through. I understand some pieces but EVERY single piece of meat is ridiculous. We later asked for the check and I had hope that when the server came to clear the table, maybe they would ask how the food was, seeing my plate full of unchewable steak but no... Then! When the server came back with our check we noticed after paying the total charged amount increased slightly so looking back at the check we notice they have a "3% surcharge on credit cards that is not greater than our cost of acceptance". Though it was also our fault for not taking out the check to double check, it would've been nice of a staff to mention it as they were walking off with our credit card to pay with. read more

Great for smaller parties since larger than 3 can take a very long time. It's always busy especially weekend mornings but definitely worth the wait. Oj freshly squeezed and yes served ice cold! I got that along with a Scratch omelette, eggs, cheese, sausage, bacon and spinach. Some orders come with either homemade biscuits and gravy or banana bread THE BEST IN TOWN HANDS DOWN!
