I like their window treatments and other things and they are very helpful. I like the workers there and everything else.

Very high quality shades, particularly the roman blinds. Highly recommend the battery powered units. Remotes work very well and it's easy to set the end limits of the shades and operate multiple shades simultaneously. The Shade Store also has a large variety of beautiful fabric options to choose from. Their sales and support staff are well versed in the details of their shade models, and their retail store is very helpful to understand the intricacies of selecting a shade. I love writing good reviews... Unfortunately, I can't do so for the Shade Store. After spending thousands of dollars for 5 automatic shades, it took waiting SIX MONTHS, and coordinating a handful of (comically unsuccessful) installation visits, and product shipments, to finally get my order correct. After all the time, I just wanted the order to be right... But the clincher? The brand new roller shade that was delivered already has a black stain on it. Since they have a supposed "satisfaction guarantee" - I asked their aftercare team if they could arrange for spot cleaning, and recommend a trusted preferred vendor who has worked with the product... But they said "we are not capable of arranging that." If this was a cheap product, I could (sadly) understand being dismissed... but this was quite an investment. I won't be using The Shade Store again (or recommending them, as I had several times in the past). read more

However, it takes a dedicated and astute representative to assist the customer in determining the right design and fabric for a home. Dan Ambrose, Shade store representative at the Boston Design Center, has been working with my husband and me for the past couple of years to create just the right look in both our Boston apartment and our CT home. One by one, I am replacing every window treatment and I'm enjoying each moment. It takes me time to weigh the options for fabrics and styles but each piece that I purchase adds a distinctive feature to my homes. Dan has been patient and relentless in making sure that all my shades and drapes are done perfectly. He has a lot of unique ideas for designing window treatments and his advice has always enabled me to make the right decisions. Plus, it's fun "working on windows" with Dan. I have nothing but great things to say about The Shade Store. The initial email communication is great, and the prompt follow up with a phone call was appreciated. We replaced all of our windows and needed new treatments for them. The window measure consultation was easy and quick. I was able to go into the Derby Street store and see in person the treatments that I was interested in and take home samples. I even requested samples and they were sent to me. I wasn't able to commit to all windows at once and they were very accommodating and accepting in working with my timeline. We had a great experience with the Shade Store(s) on Newbury St and in Burlington. I contacted Dan at the Newbury St store to discuss what I was looking for and he gave me some ideas based on some photos I sent him. I was able to go to the Burlington store which was more convenient for me to actually look at the products and left with multiple (free) swatches and a good idea of what would work in the space. The installation person was on time and adjusted everything before he left. Love that the company stands behind its products and that its been around for almost a century. read more

I bought 2 sets of shades from these guys and it was a truly horrible experience. From the high pressure sales. Where the price quote disappears 2 days after it is sent. To the fact that they measured incorrectly. Then it took them 5 visits to get the correct shades. Including damaged, wrong type, too short a cord. Then they expect you to move the shades around your home, take away their garbage, they will not even help with the automation. Go elsewhere. read more

Need to update this review to unfortunately a worse rating. We were told that the drapes we ordered were supposed to look like they did (pretty flat for 800 dollars for 2 small windows) So because they were so flat we thought maybe we needed another panel. So we ordered more panels hoping to make them look better. 800 dollars and a year after trying to make the first set of curtains look better they just look worse now. Waited, hoping the curtains would finally get the shape/ look that curtains are supposed to have but one year later it's safe to say it's not going to get any better! read more

I recently purchased three roller shades from The Shade Store and had them installed for the exorbitant price of nearly $1500. Both salesman and installer were nice, but I'm disappointed in two of the shades. The installer put a bracket on each chain, and put them much too close to the windows. I didn't want a bracket, prefer the chain to hang free as in several other high-end shades I have. More importantly, the bracket being too close to the window makes it difficult to adjust the shades without scraping the shade edge. The installer said he'd gladly move the brackets, but obviously each would leave two holes; he could fill them and paint over them (?) I had just had my condo painted professionally and didn't have extra paint. I said I'd live with the shades the way they were. Update: after I posted original version of this review, a nice customer service rep called me, apologized but didn't propose anything new, ie. offer me a partial refund or a gift certificate to a nice restaurant, so I just said again that I'd live with the shades as is. Disappointing but not fatal. read more

Our order of draperies: initially, forgot to put needed parts in with drapes to hang them, made too short (pictures proved). Another set of drapes were made, still to short! We emailed more pictures showing length. They doubted us and had an installer come and measure, yes we were correct. They offered another pair of drapes to be made or the installer could add a long wedge along the ceiling, we chose the later. We will never order from them again. Betty C. Revere read more

These guys are great to work with. I ordered samples from a number of different shade manufacturers and The Shade Store uses the highest quality, most luxury materials by far. When I went into the store Glenn was so helpful. He was patient with us and gave great advice. We had a professional come to measure our windows to ensure that everything was perfect and Glenn personally put together our order. I felt comfortable that everything would be just right. The Shade Store has great products and awesome associates. Originally, I found them online and then saw they had a local store. I ordered my samples through Tina Hill as I was a bit overwhelmed with the online assortment. The samples arrived in very nice packaging. I fell in love with some designer choices. Tina really helped to narrow this down and focus it. I ultimately ended up with something more practical. Tina is a great listener and really tries and succeeds at understanding your needs. It is a pleasure to work with Tina, she really wants you to be happy with your selection. She has an excellent eye and is not looking to "sell" you but to really make sure you get what you need. My shades are now up! I actually measured myself and it turned out great! I love my new shades thanks to Tina! read more

We were impressed with the customer service in the store and via phone, as well as the quality of the linen curtains. But for these prices, we expected a higher level of overall attention to detail. The third party who measured for the installation asked my opinion more than once about which type of rod I wanted and how it should be mounted around the crown molding (I had no idea, which is why I felt compelled to rely on someone else's expertise, and pay thousands of dollars for it). Shipping was delayed and incomplete, which required us to take photos, make an inventory list, and request the missing pieces. More confusion ensued on their end over the subsequent shipment. After the installation, which went fine, we "trained" the curtains to stay open during the day (they are blackouts, so this is a significant detail). A couple of months later, I am still tying them with the plastic wrap from the packaging because they won't stay open on their own. Clearly, they need a mounted hook to hold them to the side during the day, or even just a strap of the same material. We would have been happy to arrange/pay for those at the time -- had we known. Again, we would rate many aspects of our experience highly, but our frustration with the other elements reduced our overall impression. read more

They were in constant contact with me and the product arrived in a timely manner. My jaw dropeed when I took them out of the packaging (i orderdered roller shades) they are stunning!!!! Just when I could not be more pleased they sent me a thank you card saying they were planting a tree and the card said "On behalf of the shade store, please accept our gratitude with the gift of shade" Why o Why can we not have more business like the shade store. Glenn at the Boston location has been fantastic to work with! We are on our second order and will probably do a 3rd and 4th! At first I was only looking online but then went into the showroom to see everything in person. That was so helpful. I thought we would need help installing b/c hanging drapes and rods are usually not easy but - the romans we got we SOOOOOO easy to install and they look awesome. After doing some homework and comparing other shade stores - I went with the Shade Store. I worked with Tina Hill who was extremely helpful and a pleasure to work with. She knows each product (and there are MANY to chose from) inside and out - as she should...but the process at times was overwhelming to me, as far as "light filtering", different fabrics, various types of shades, etc....but again, Tina simplified things and helped me to chose the right shades for different areas of my house. I bought shades for my entire newly renovated home. This included, living room, dining area, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and hallway windows - all in all, the price was approximately $2500.00 for shades and install. The shades and the hardware are of excellent quality and my home looks amazing!!! Choosing the right shades, with Tina's decorating back round and honest feedback - helped add another design element to my home ...accentuating the window moldings and furnishings.
