We purchased three large draperies from The Shade Store in August. I was initially hesitant because their price was significantly higher than online retailers, but we wanted a professional installation for our main living area and were willing to pay a premium for quality. That was a mistake. Prior to placing the order, the installation was delayed from the initial 4-week estimate to mid-October. I proceeded, despite the new 2+ month wait. At the October installation, the installers discovered one drape was nearly a foot too narrow. Their own measurer had entered the wrong value. Given we were already two months into this project, I requested an expedited resolution. I was informed the earliest replacement would take place in December due to "seasonal volume." I would expect any company to prioritize correcting its own errors, especially on a purchase exceeding $7,000. To make matters worse, we then noticed another one of the drapes contains a poor-quality, badly sewn seam. To date, all I have to show for my investment is three wrinkled panels--one of which is the wrong size and another containing poor workmanship. The only positive experience was our salesperson, Jackie. She was great to work with and has tried her best to assist us but she was unable to overcome The Shade Store's corporate wall. We recently remodeled our home and needed new window coverings for the kitchen, dining room, and master bedroom. Many years ago, I used a competitor that came to your home. I called them again and was less than impressed with the company's rep. She took some quick measurements and didn't ask me once what I wanted to do. She pulled out some random swatches and I had to go through her swatches to make sure I saw everything that could work. Overall, I was really underwhelmed and decided to call the Shade Store. I spoke to Daniel Deeringer and he quickly set-up an appointment with Jonathan to take measurements. Jonathan must have been here for about 1.5 hours taking precise measurements of all the windows. We took all the swatches we needed, brought them home to compare and think about, and made some well-informed final decisions. Once we decided on fabrics, installation was handled by Luis. Luis was also on time, friendly, and very knowledgeable. He worked efficiently, but carefully. There was a slight mis-measurement on a valance, but Luis took photos and the correct measurement to relay to Daniel. He answered a bunch of my questions before leaving and even steamed my kitchen Roman shades! Santiago and Andrew then came out to handle the last little things that needed to get fixed. Very small issues that were handled promptly as if they were big issues. Both gentlemen arrived as scheduled and worked quickly. Both were obvious pros and carried themselves as such. The shades are fine but we've had several come in damaged, the digital control option is problematic and still not working for us and they have serious communication issues. I've spent hours waiting for techs who never show, I have damaged drywall (still to be repaired (they want me to repair it and send a bill to them). There are cheaper options. If there isn't premium service or premium quality there's no reason to pay more. I gave Shade Store the benefit of the doubt many times but at this point i'm frustrated and disappointed. I connected with her on a Friday afternoon via the online chat option (I'm on the East Coast) and was blown away by how responsive and thorough she was from the start. After she overnighted us some swatches, I called with questions and she offered to just facetime me into the showroom on the spot to show me the options live! I ordered my shades in September 2020 and they were installed in October 2021. Tara (who no longer works there) was very helpful in the showroom and via phone/email. Someone came to take measurements and the shades were ordered. Initial installation went well, however it became clear that the shades were not properly installed and/or not measured appropriately because they were frequently hitting my baseboards when they were closing (we got motorized shades). There were multiple issues as other installers came to try and adjust and fix the issue, some didn't wash their hands and got dirt on the white valance. Motors started making noises, one thing after another. Finally here we are a year later, I am frustrated with the shades continuing to hit the baseboards and I call the store after getting an undelivered email to Tara. The person I spoke to looked at the measurements and immediately could see that the person who measured did not take the baseboards into account, so now I have another appointment to have someone come and take proper measurements so the shades can be reordered. The shades are great quality, the motorized option I am starting to regret but I like the look and convenience of them. These shades (2 total) cost thousands of dollars...I was expecting to have them done right the first time, not to find out a year later that they're completely wrong :( they stand by their product and I'm hoping this gets resolved once and for all. I will also note that as another reviewer mentioned, I was not expecting huge boxes to be delivered directly to me, it would be better to have the installers bring them the day of installation as they sat in my living room for weeks. If you need shades- look no further- go to the Shade Store!! Here was my experience: I needed drapes and roller blinds in the kitchen, living room and 2 office spaces. I met Tara at the Shade Store and she worked with me from start to finish on the project. She helped me pick out colors and fabrics that would work well with our modern style. She even came out to the house to help with deciding on drapes for the office. They also make renderings so that you can get an idea of what the room will look like after it is completed. Then she followed up after installation and since one of the chains that controls the blind wasn't long enough she ordered another one and they came out and did a second installation of the chain at no charge. The Shade Store is top notch! I would use them again in an instant. They pride themselves on customer service and their quality is impeccable. For anyone out there on a budge they also have blinds that are very reasonable- we used those in our back office/work out room and those look fantastic too. They call them "Better Basics" - at the bottom of the main page of their website. I was so glad I used the Shade Store and had Tara to help me because I have no regrets- the blinds look amazing! Definitely blinds are something you want to get right the first time- since they are nearly always custom made. Our kitchen window is a unique blind that has horizontal bars, so you can completely block out light or partially block out light. I've attached some before and after pictures. read more
