A Year of Frustration, Terrible Service and Endless Installation Problems If I could give zero stars, I would. Our experience with The Shade Store has been nothing short of a nightmare. We placed our order almost a year ago, and we are still dealing with installation problems to this day. The company seems to be run by completely unprofessional people who simply do not care about their customers. Installers have been to our home eight times, and every single visit came with a new problem. The first time, only half of our shades could be installed because the company did not send all the materials. The next time, they sent the wrong color shades. Then, they made shades in the wrong size for our windows. Another time, they canceled installation on the day of the appointment even though it had been scheduled two months in advance. At one visit, they sent only one installer for a two-person job, forcing yet another reschedule. And this pattern continued. Every step of the way, communication was poor, follow up was nonexistent, and accountability was zero. It is astonishing that a company charging premium prices can deliver such incompetent and chaotic service. We have wasted time, energy, and countless days off work waiting for people who show up unprepared or not at all. Do yourself a favor and avoid The Shade Store. I am writing to formally express my frustration with the continued lack of responsiveness and support I have received. On September 5th, I submitted my initial request for a technician to resolve an issue with my shades. As of today, September 30th, no service appointment has been scheduled or confirmed. This delay is unacceptable. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. Since moving into my new home two years ago, I have had to contact the Shade Store on at least five separate occasions for assistance. Each time, it has taken a month or longer to address even the most basic service requests. This pattern reflects extremely poor customer service and leaves me very dissatisfied as a customer. The sales person who took my huge order two years ago (Nancy Montgomery) basically says this is not her problem because she is a sales person. I am left on my own to try to get someone's attention from customer service to get this shade fix, but as for now nobody has done anything. They sent a defective shade that ruined a four window design - when they were unable to provide a shade that matched the spacing color or size after months , they tried to make us pay twice to get our original design back. the shades aren't even 5 years old! terrible quality and trying to bill us twice for their mistakes. I offered to speak with the store manager before leaving this review. The offer was left in a voice message and through our product support person. Our experience - significant room for improvement. It took several months (6+) for us to have fully functionally motorized shades once ordered. Product ordered/installed: Solar shades (motorized) and manual. Quality overall was good. Except we had a shade motor go out (would only go down) three weeks after installation. The issues were: 1) a faulty motor (replaced) 2) shade sized wrong (replaced) 3) non-attention to details - connector left unplugged by install tech - once discovered by us that shade become operational again. 4) support sent wrong instructions on we could how to reset a motor - wasn't for the motors installed (to try to fix the shade that worked before and now didn't - later discovered to be connector issue) Our motor required cycling power, instructions sent were for a motor that has a reset button. 5) support scheduled a warranty repair (to our billing address - different state, not the install address). I understand that mistakes happen. But there was no sense of urgency to fix those mistakes. That resulted in us investing a great deal of time figuring out how to reset motors, program remotes, checking power cables, etc. When paying premium dollars for solar shades, one does expect the shades to be measured correctly, installed correctly, and work correctly without having to much more than just pay for em'. The Shade Store did address the warranty issues. The product quality is good overall. The replacement motor arrived within two weeks. However, the execution of install and warranty repair - not good. Management having no interest in reaching out to us to discuss any of this pretty much says there is no interest in seeking operational improvements as well. read more

I found out why my first experience was subpar - the sales person left the company and no one picked up where she left off. Kylagh helped rectify the issues I had and did everything she could to make sure I was satisfied. However For the price, I really expected more. The only reason I didn't use some internet shade seller is The Shade Store has an excellent selection of fabrics from which to choose, and you get to see them in person, and take home as many samples as you'd like. I fell in love with one pattern and couldn't find anything else from another company that I liked so much so paid about 3 times as much as I would have from another company to get the pattern. That said, who knows what quality I would have received from an internet shade seller? In the end I love my shades, mostly. read more

Product was good & the installers were very professional and great. It could've been 5 stars had I not been so unlucky to be paired with Nancy (sales associate). She is incredibly unprofessional, rude, lazy, and incompetent. First of all, I don't know how she's a sales associate. She has absolutely terrible taste. She didn't help at all with picking the right style for us. We went to the store, told her what we were looking for, and provided swatches that were the complete opposite of what we said. We had to spend an extra hour going through everything ourselves. Once we found what we wanted, she dropped the ball on my order & had no idea what was going on. She was terrible to work with & I would highly recommend working with someone else. As far as installation, they were absolutely lovely and very professional. We had an extremely disappointing experience with this company. The issues began with obtaining accurate quotes for custom shades, which required us to deal with multiple employees. Despite having a Shade Store employee take measurements, every shade we ordered (for five windows and a door) arrived incorrectly sized. This order was placed in June. Correcting their mistakes turned into a nightmare, involving countless phone calls, emails, text messages, and in-person visits. Their responses were consistently slow and unprofessional. Even after re-measuring, the replacement shades we received in late July were also incorrect. The side flaps were the wrong size, forcing us to remeasure and reorder yet again. By the end of September, the flaps were still the wrong size. We had to wait an additional month for the shades to finally be installed correctly. This pattern of errors and lack of attention to detail persisted for months. The design consultant overseeing our project promised a credit for their mistakes but insisted it would only be processed once everything was resolved. The final installation was not completed until late November, and despite our follow-up emails, we have yet to receive the promised credit or even a response. This company's carelessness, poor communication, and lack of accountability are astounding. We would not recommend them to anyone. One star (if zero were possible, we'd choose that). read more

Her follow up was great. Her timeline that she explained to us for ordering, delivery and install was pretty much exact. Our install even ended up to be one week early. The shades were installed this weekend by Andy. He did a nice job and the installation went smoothly and quick. Andy's work was done perfectly. Tami is a great communicator and efficiently resolved the outstanding problems. She's a wonder and is unconditionally committed to making sure that Shade Stores lives up to its brand name. Simply put, she went above and beyond. We now have all the shades we had ordered, in the correct sizes, and correctly installed. The house is finally complete. On top of that, she compensated us for all the delays. While I wish everything had been done right the first time, things happen, and Tami's commitment to getting everything resolved has restored my faith in the Shade Store. We've installed shades across the office. The install was great and they look polished. The clutch on one shade rollers broke (3 years in) in March causing the shade to unravel and stay down. Initially the repair was scheduled for 2 months out. 2 months later I was contacted that the the install had to be rescheduled due to a part being backordered. We are now 4 months out and the rep is indicating they have no idea when the part will come in. It could be a month, it could be another 4 months. No idea whatsoever. Every new shade they install has this piece - so obviously these are available. It's just not a piece that will be prioritized and allocated for repairs. Ridiculous to be sitting in literal darkness for over 4 months with no end in sight on a $3000 manual window treatment. read more

I am so incredibly dissatisfied with this company. I have the same shades in three bedrooms. I have had issues over and over, every few months. It is such a hassle to get them fixed constantly. Recently I waited weeks for a Repair, a technician couldn't do the problem. They shipped the shade out then forgot about it. After reaching out weeks later I found out my shade was sitting on a showroom floor. I finally got an appointment two weeks later. I had to pay someone to sit at my house and wait for them to come because we were not home. My appointment was pushed back two hours. Then it was cancelled. I have had a shade much larger in the master bedroom from a different company and never had a single issue. Plus, that shade goes up and down quietly. The shade store shades in metal chains are so loud, stick, and have been both nothing but problems. I will never recommend this company. read more

Waited three weeks for my shades to arrive and then another week for the installer to come. Turns out, the production team inverted the dimensions of shades in one room so they had to remake. Waited another two weeks for the new shades to arrive and they were the incorrect color. Called customer service and now they said since they have already remade the shades once they will offer a 50% discount if I order the correct size and correct color again. Even though the issue was on their end they still insists that i will need to pay them in order for them to make the correct shades again at which i declined. As a small business owner, I don't like posting negative reviews. I understand that things happen and accidents happen and I try to give a company the opportunity to fix it. So we ordered 2 Shades , which took over 6 weeks to arrive, yes Covid is apparently is still alive in their supply chain, but fine. When they installed them last week, we noticed that when the shade is up, it does not hang straight, like its too heavy on the left side, and the smaller kitchen window shade is at least 6 inches too long so when its down, it has to fold over on itself. Both of these are honest mistakes, most likely but here is where I am angry. I emailed last week with the problem, I go an email back today and when I went to book the "support appointment, there was one available on October 11 and the next ones are October 17. Now I personally think that 3 weeks to come inspect one's poor work is way too long for the customer to have to wait, but when you pay at minimum of 3 times the going rate for shades , you do expect some faster service. It seems their bad reviews are all centered around service. The shades themselves are just ok, nothing to write home about, the motor is actually pretty cool. read more

You get what you pay for, and though the Shade Store's blinds are most likely more expensive than big box stores and other budget blind vendors, the quality of their products and the extraordinary customer service they provide will certainly satisfy the most discerning customer. I purchased some motorized blinds from the Shade Store for a number of windows in my master bedroom and a bathroom, and the experience was so satisfying that I bought additional blinds from them for my second bedroom. I worked with Adam, who helped me select the best fabric for the blinds I wanted and quickly scheduled a measurement appointment (from a technician that showed up on time and finished quickly). He scheduled my install for a few weeks after the measurement, but when the blinds arrived early (I love a company that under promises and over delivers), he worked with me to move the installation up to an earlier date. The installation tech was also punctual, and worked quickly but efficiently to install all the blinds I ordered, then showed me how to use the remote control to open individual blinds or open/close them all at once. I had a similar experience with the second order I placed - the blinds arrived early and Adam helped facilitate an earlier instal, which also went very smoothly. Most importantly, the blinds look great - less expensive blinds from other contractors can look a little wrinkled and have some frayed edges. Not these - they look beautiful down, and are tucked away nicely at the top when up. If you are looking to install quality shades, I cannot recommend the Shade Store highly enough. read more

We worked with Abdol on getting some solar shades and curtain rods. The service was top notch. He helped us find the right hardware for our curtains even though we didn't buy curtains from the store. He also was very helpful at picking out the color of the shade that works out so well. The installer they work with is also very professional and skilled. I knew what I wanted, so I sent in for some swatches so I could compare the different varieties of honeycomb shades. I received an email from Adam at the fashion Island store, and he sent someone to measure the windows. I went in a few nights later I was out within 20 minutes with my shades, picked and paid for. He told me it would be about a month before they would arrive, and they came in two weeks. The installer just left. I was told it would take an hour to install them. It only took 20 minutes. I've purchased window coverings from other companies, but I must say this is the best experience I've ever had with a shade company. I highly recommend them.
