Order shades from the store in Roslyn. First off a design team does not come to your home to help with which type of track they would recommend. so they sent an installer to measure this was not the same guy who would come back and install. so we ordered drapes for office and our living room which is just one large wall of glass. day of install installer had no idea how to hang the rod and damage my walls plus he hung the without a level so it had a wave . he spaced the clips to hold the track up unevenly space and spaced them from 29.5 to 36 inch apart and installed 17 holders . when they came to remove this installer said why where so many clips installed it looked like teeth braces on the wall only should of used 10 since track was so thick. Second none of the patterns lined up how does one pay this much money and paterson of by 7 inches looked horrible. the seam where also place near the front so drapes would not pleat correct. all the drapes once installed where dragging on the floor installer said track should of been installed first to get lowest point and highest point on floor first since drapes could be moved from one side of room to other. after all discussed with store to fix they sent someone over to install new drapes and take out old one but they never fixed the track or measured new heights for drapes. so now want full refund i have no drapes for over 2 months and since they messed up so much i was offered a full refund. only received a third of my money back. call store spoke with sales women again she said don't i have any drapes . wtf we went over ever problem like 4 to 5 time she know exactly what was going on now she said had to ask for rest of refund. still no call back and no drapes. could of didn't a better job myself and still need to repair all my damaged walls from their hardware. beware they suck. have to hire attorney now to sue for remaining bale and damage to walls read more

I needed to replace my Hunter Douglas cellular shades after only 5 years, Hunter Douglas was not responsive to provide replacements etc. So I went to the Shade Store in San Francisco/Fillmore street. It was a very effortless process to select new cellular shades, got pricing quotes, samples available, Grace Diaz was the most effective sales person I ever encountered. Measurements scheduling easy, shipping directly to customer, installation went very well with the extreme skills of Antonio, top quality of the cellular shades, very well made. We had an excellent experience with The Shade Store. Our salesperson, Grace was incredibly helpful when I walked in the store. When I left, I had samples and a good idea of what would work. Within a week the measurement appointment was scheduled. I then went back and met with Grace and we finalized everything in one meeting. The processing of the order was about a month - which we thought was quite reasonable. Grace left The Shade Store, but we then worked with Neil who was just as responsive as Grace had been. We had some issues with scheduling installation, but Neil worked diligently to find an earlier installation appointment. On installation day the team was on time, professional and did a fabulous job. We contacted the Shade Store for window coverings in our new home. In the preceding four years we had purchased 17 window coverings for our previous home from the Shade Store without difficulty. We met several times at the Shade Store office to discuss solutions to cover the windows in our bedroom and choose fabric. The Shade Store sent a professional installer to our home to measure for various possible window coverings. The Shade Store designer then visited our home to discuss how our bedroom windows could be covered. She confirmed the measurements and determined that draperies were the ONLY solution and the draperies could ONLY hung from the ceiling. On Aug. 7, 2020 we paid the Shade Store $7,330.01 for draperies for our bedroom. On Aug. 31, 2020 a Shade Store installer came to install the drapes. A few minutes after he began his work he said he thought his drill had encountered a metal duct which had not been noticed by the previous installer or the Shade Store designer. He advised not to proceed as it could permanently damage our duct system. After confirming that he had encoutered a duct, we agreed that he should not drill into the duct. He then called the Shade Store to advise that there was no way to install the draperies and left to return the draperies to the Shade Store. We asked him about a refund for the drapes and he said, "This is on us." We expected to hear from the Shade Store about a refund. After calling the corporate office three times and emailing Davon Roach three times, we have heard nothing. We are being ignored and demand a full refund. I find it troubling that this store is so well known and popular. We've used them for years in both of our homes and have assumed that we are well taken care of but then slowly we notice shades breaking in all the rooms. We've gotten to the point where we've had their poorly trained repairmen out so many times that it's just become obvious that we need to stop assuming this store is competent at installing shades. Don't be fooled by the standard form message from the owner- it's just a yelp trick. Today, another rep (not the owner, as he promised) contacted me, who hadn't even bothered to talk to the previous rep, and suggested that they mount the shades on the outside of the window (also suggested by the previous rep). If she had taken the time to look at the photos or the measurements, she (and the previous rep) would have immediately seen that was not workable, since the sills jut out more than an inch from the window. She then said that my old shades must have "settled" into the space. Huh?! Does gravity work differently on one edge of a shade? Clearly, she (and the entire team) know nothing about shades since they don't make "any" product that would work for my windows... and yet, I (and the 66 other condo owners in my building) all seemed to have had other products that fit in their windows. No one ever offered any other solutions. Stay away from this company. read more

Excellent customer service by Lone Albertsen from the first day I called to her follow-up after install. We had a complex project with six motorized shades that had to fit in an inside mount drywall "pocket". Lone was knowledgable and the shades are good quality. And when we requested a second (fancy) remote control that's usually $70, the company sent it complimentary. It took us 2 yrs. to build our detailed, period house, and we had issues with almost every vendor / sub-contractor. The Shade Store was one of the few really good experiences we had. read more

The shade store has really nice service and a good selection. Installation was relatively smooth. We have it since a year now. However, we have these day and night honeycomb shades - both black-out and regular - and we have lots of problems with them. There are always knots forming in the lines inside the honeycombs. They cannot really be untied and the shade has to be replaced. This happens on warranty but I just need shades that work, not putting screens in front of windows until they are fixed and delivered 6-8 weeks later. While everyone is really very nice, it is just a very bad design and I fear we wasted 10k and need to replace it all. read more

It took me a very long time to order shades for my bedroom windows because they are expensive no matter where you purchase and I wanted to be sure to choose something we'd love. I used The Shade Store because their selection is huge and the website is very easy to use. They were offering free professional measurements so I went with that because I have a tricky window in one room. I was immediately referred to the local measure/install company upon entering in my request-that was great! I scheduled a measurement and the person who came out to measure was fast and professional. He sent in my measurements and I was contacted by a person in Texas to place my order. She was amazing, she sent me samples of every fabric I could have possibly wanted and more! Her quotes were fast and accurate, I loved working with her over email. Not pushy but always available. Fast forward to when my shades finally arrived... The shades I ordered arrived in a huge, long, bent cardboard box. Each shade was carefully wrapped in butcher paper. I left the shades like this until I could get an install appointment. The appointment was not for 2 weeks! Anyway, the day came and the installer arrived and began installing my shades. Room #1- shade 2" too small. Blackout shades don't work if they don't fit the window! Room #2- Shade 1 OK shade 2 was 2" too long! The installer was very upset because he thought his company had made a mistake, but we came to find out that the Shade Store, whose sole job is to create shades in the measurements sent to them, did not do their job correctly. He left the 2 shades installed and I had to go purchase a temporary shade for the 3rd window. I immediately contacted my Texas rep and she got on it fast. I was then contacted by customer service via email, they sent me a return shipping tag to return the shades once my new ones were installed. Now I have a giant box with a wrong size shade sitting in my office. At this point I figured they would rush the order. Well, that did not happen. It took another few weeks to make the shades and then the shipping was not expedited either! I was really disappointed to have to wait nearly 3 weeks with messed up shades on my windows after spending over $4000 on them plus I had to take another day off work for the second install. Once the replacements arrived, again in a damaged box, they sat on my floor for 2 weeks until I could get an install date. At this point my office floor is completely covered in giant cardboard boxes and window shades for huge windows. The installation was covered already since I had paid the first time. The new shades fit but the one in room #1 is terribly wrinkled. I then had to re-pack the mis-measured shades into a giant box and lug it to FedEx to return it. Yes, my shades are fantastic (ignoring the wrinkles) but the hassle was insane! Not sure I'd use this place again. read more

I've ordered roller shades from here twice. Both times the ordering and installation were easy and the quality is very high. I've been a customer for over a decade and have purchased roller shades for several homes in the past and had always been impressed by the product quality. When I recently purchased blinds for my new home, shipping was a nightmare; I received no assistance from The Shade Store and finally ended up having to go to FedEx to pick up my order. When I finally received my order, the product was significantly cheaper from the same version of the shades purchased in the past. The shade material was cheap; the shades were too narrow; the end of the rollers kept falling off; the brackets were light weight and not pre-drilled and one of the pull chains broke immediately. This review is long overdue. We have a grandmother who is 97 and she wanted all new drapes for her penthouse in Nob Hill. $16,000 worth of new drapes & hardware to be precise. Our first order was for her living room and bedroom to be outfitted was in Oct 2014. Drapery and hardware are admittedly high quality. Delivery was pretty quick. Customer service by Grace was very nice given the price point. But then we waited for the 3rd party installer to answer calls, let alone come to install the drapes. He didn't return calls, always had some excuse of why he couldn't answer the calls. After weeks of calling him and Grace and then having to call headquarters just to get him to call back, it was now Dec 2014. Did I mention Grandma is 97?? She wanted to see new drapes in her house, end of discussion. End of Dec 2014, William - the 3rd party installer, FINALLY came and installed them. Grandmother loved them. So she wanted the same drapery & hardware for her dining room windows. $4000 for this room of windows. ANOTHER chase of William to call back, to schedule, cancel, reschedule a time for installation. For $16k worth of product and a grandmother that is 97 one would think that someone could possible finish the job? Feb/March 2015 William finally has a time to come and install. 12-2pm is the time he gives us, only he apparently really means that at 12noon he will send his daughter's boyfriend over to open the boxes and prep the hardware and drapery. And we will sit awkwardly staring at each other, while this daughter's bf apologizes and continually calls William asking where he is. And William doesn't arrive until 2pm. We were short one drapery stick that you use to pull the drapes back and one end cap arrived in the wrong color. Two more deliveries and three endcaps later we finally receive the correct color. Unfortunately installation is a direct reflection of The Shade Store. The Shade Store hires these installers and one would think they would care about how they are represented. My wife and I purchased window treatments for seven windows in our new house. Double roller shades with solar and blackout, and matching valances. Just an awful experience from beginning to end. Dingbat salesperson that could barely form a like, comprehensible, like sentence, you know? When asked to clarify anything, she lapsed into haughty jargon, like we were ignorant for not studying shade hardware before we wasted her precious time. Despite saying their dedicated installer worked seamlessly with them, there was no evidence any communication ever occurred. Let's see, shipping date was off, and we had to call the shipping company to schedule a delivery. No one ever called us or told us this was necessary. And the shades, which are prohibitively expensive for the service one gets, come packed in a dumpster full of packing materials, but with the packing badly damaged nonetheless. Expect about a 55 gallon container full of trash for every large window. read more

The design studio is really nice and they have a TON of different shades for you to look at. Customer services is hit or miss depending on who's working. One of the women was extremely helpful and courteous and another day this other woman was super rude and acted like I was bothering here when I asked her a few simple questions. The prices are steep, but if you're looking for something custom, you've got to be willing to spend the money. I ordered some blackout shades for my bedroom which has floor to ceiling windows and faces east and is damn bright on mornings I'd rather not see the light of day until the clock reads "pm" (if ya know what I mean). So they are nice enough (since I'm dropping $1500!) and help me select a fabric, rod, etc. Then they send a measuring guy which costs $75 despite me having the measurements- "We only trust our own guy to do the measurements." Fine fine, I say. Whatever. So homeboy shows up on time and is polite and all, but REEKS of marijuana so unless he has a medical marijuana card, he might be doing a little extracurricular activity they might want to look into. So he measures and is done in 20 minutes and leaves. Ok, fine. The day before they are coming to install, I call them (mind you, they didn't call me) to confirm and ask if they'd be bringing the curtains since I hadn't received them yet and they're like, "What do you mean you haven't received them yet?" To which I replied, "I have not received anything- maybe they shipped to your design center instead?" So after being on hold for 10 minutes and being spoken to like it was MY fault, the lady informs me that they don't have enough of the fabric I chose to make my curtains, since it will require so much. Well, that would have been nice to know before I took a half day off two weeks ago!! Anyway, to make a long story short- they have an abundant selection of cool fabrics/rods (prob the best in town), are on the expensive side but ok for the quality, but the customer service is awful, the measuring guy and his fee were ridiculous, and now I finally have my curtains but they are TWO INCHES short and the light comes in from underneath. So much for only trusting their measuring guy. The saddest part is that I'm just dealing with it because it was such a bad experience I don't want to bring it to their attention and have them fix it because I'm afraid they might mess things up even worse. I needed shades for my place. So I took a friend's advice and called JCPenney since they always have those '50% off custom shade ads' in the Sunday paper. A woman came over to give me an estimate. The estimate nearly gave me a heart-attack (over $5000). Maybe it was my fault for never realizing that shades were going to be as steep as this? But when I showed my shock, she pretty much said that they are going to be the most reasonable of anyone. Then I contacted my friend who's a designer. She steered me towards The Shade Store on Fillmore. On the up-side, it's only a few blocks from my place. On the down-side, it's in Pac Heights so if JCPenney was going to charge a certain amount, then this place could only be more...right??? Wrong. The people there are WONDERFUL and it's just a nice, pleasant place to be in. I came with rough estimates of the sizes of the shades I would need and the quote ended up being.....over $2000 LESS than JCPenney! I hired them then and there. I decided to make a few changes from when the order was first placed and the people I needed to contact in NY could not have been more great. They were extremely efficient (they quoted me 3 weeks less than it would have taken JCPenney) and you get an email with the tracking number the minute the shades go out. I recommend this place in a heartbeat! Note: I felt like the installation could have been pricey so I ended up hiring a handyman to do the work which ended up perfectly. read more

We ordered 6 roman shades for our condo from the Shade Store. Customer service was great. The installer showed up on time and did a fine job. My issue is with the product itself. The fit and finish of these very expensive shades has been a consistent problem. On the first go around three shades were lopsided. The Shade Store agreed to replace these. About one month later the replacement shades came in and one of the replacements was even more lopsided. Now after three tries they finally delivered correctly fitting shades. In addition, the locking mechanism on these shades is awkward to engage. You must reach behind the shade and grab the shade rope quite high up then pull it at quite an acute angle to get the shade to lock in place. read more

I was greeted with wonderful hospitality and the sales person was quite generous with her time. She was very patient and I learned a lot about shades, fabric types, and interior design. The store carries the Chilewich panels (need I say beautiful, modern, and classy!) and I absolutely adore them. Prices are reasonable for the quality and service you receive. Loved the open space/ambiance of the store. It's chic modern! Location is convenient and right off a few bus lines (or within walking distance) from MUNI 1, 2, 3, 22, and 38. Tip #1: Get a professional to measure for you via The Shade Store. They will reimburse the fees if you end up buying shades there that are at least $500. Tip #2: They have private sales sometimes for folks on their emailing list. Make sure you get on it. Tip #3: Take measurements from 3 different parts of the intended location for where you want the panel system/shades/curtains placed (as advised by the sales person for folks residing in San Francisco). read more

Julia Baker was the highlight of an experience that gets more surprising (in the best possible way) as it goes along, in a world of custom high end home decor companies who just don't care if things slip by a month or two. Julia had a lovely personality, not salesy and genuinely interested in what the rest of the room looked like and how window coverings would fit in. She offered intelligent advice, but also respected my vision. I showed pictures, talked about decor styles and came home with a massive amount of samples. I picked the ones I wanted, came back, got a quote, changed it around a couple of times (every time I got a revised quote literally the same day), and eventually ordered. She followed up if she didn't hear from me, but wasn't pushy. I finally ordered - she warned me that normally it would take 4-5 weeks for the fabrics I picked, but guess what? they were here in 3. Now onto the install - so far, so good :) read more

This place is awesome. I redecorated my bedroom this summer. I didn't want the cheap, pre-made Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware curtains but I wasn't willing to fork over several thousands for designer (i.e., SF Design Center) curtains either. I found a happy middle ground at the Shade Store where you can pretty much customize your own curtains, rods, and shades of all types for pretty much a fraction of the cost. There is some up front work on your part. You have to measure the dimensions of your window, come to the store to pick out samples & talk to helpful staff, etc... but all in all it was pretty painless. I even paid a little bit more ($20/shade or so) to have them install it once I received all the curtains, which were neatly boxed and on your door step a month or two later. The helpful installer even ironed my curtains for the perfect pleats!! I will definitely come back here for all my window coverings! read more

I am very unhappy with the Shade Store because of the following reasons: 1. Shipped me the wrong draperies - They are STILL sitting in my apartment and it has been at least 2 months, and they know about it 2. Installed a large ceiling tall drapery that has no pulley system or rods to allow me to open my curtains. What kind of design is that?! 3. Lacking customer service: non existence. If their customer service is so responsive, I would not have resorted to yelp and I rarely write reviews. read more

I moved into a new house without any window coverings and went to the Shade Store anticipating production of good quality window coverings in a reasonable time frame. I've been incredibly disappointed with the process, the time frame and the quality of the products. I ordered roller shades as well as top down/bottom up soft roman shades. Their website states that these items will ship in 10 days or less Date of order request:12/13/15 Date of measurement: 12/19/15 Date that the measurements made it to the shade store: 12/23/15 Date that all shades were received: 19 Jan 2015 Upon installation- multiple roller shades had been measured incorrectly and were too narrow. In addition, almost all roman shades had dirty valances and the majority of the order needed to be replaced. I received an email from the shade store Jan25 stating that a new order would be started and more than a month later I've not heard from them and the order has not been replaced. poor quality, poor communication, failure to deliver as promised.. I do not recommend at all. Update- 11 March : new roller shades (to replace the mis-measured shades) and 2nd set of fabric shades showed up in 3 boxes. One box was too heavily damaged to accept and delivery was refused. That's more on FedEx than the shade store. The roller shades are fine - yea! The fabric shades had the same issue- the valances are all dirty. INSANE. read more
