There is so much to say about the INCREDIBLE team at The Shiners! They help us to clean and manage our rental property in Portland and in so many ways (and so many times!), they have gone above and beyond. They are truly always happy to help however they can and constantly go the extra mile. Jared and Stephanie do a phenomenal job of staying organized and on top of things and are always so communicative and kind. So many of our rental reviews say that it's the cleanest rental they've ever stayed in and that is because of the level of care this team puts into it. Chloe is our main Shiner and does a sensational job. She is meticulous and so tidy, and as an extra bonus, she has an eye for design and always leaves our place looking beautiful. We've worked with many of the other Shiners, too, (Torrence and Makenzie are so fabulous as well!), and each of them treats our cottage with such love and attention to detail. Love this company! I've never used a cleaner or a service before as I'm pretty detailed with how I like things (a pain ) and figure I'll only like it if I do it myself/my way. Well, I got tired of cleaning the whole house myself or arguing for help, so this has been such a luxury to have! I contacted a few companies and really liked Jared, who came out to our house to give us a quote, which was fair and we went with it. I believe I've been with them over a year now. It is so so nice to have the whole house cleaned in one afternoon. Jared is great at scheduling and making notes about people's homes for his shiners. When I find someone I like, I stick to em. I do like having the same shiner every time so they know the house/what not to do, but seems their notes are detailed enough that they know anyway. I had to use a new shiner this week and was hesitant, but of course Jared was right in that she was great too! In times like these, cleanliness is #1 and while I wasn't sure about having a cleaner in the house, she wore a mask and all was great. Thanks Jared and team!! read more

The Shiners have been cleaning our house for about nine months. We're happy with the job they do and with their flexibility in being willing to do certain tasks and not others. Some other local cleaning companies have lists of services and you must have all tasks on the list done. The Shiners' flexibility helps save us money on services that we don't need, which is nice! Finding help with our house cleaning felt like a daunting task, but Jared and the Shiners made it easy! The Shiners have completed one deep clean at our house (2 cleaners for 3 hours in our 1400 sq ft house) and we are extremely happy with the results. It had been almost 8 months since we'd done a deep clean and our old house had gathered dust bunnies in every corner and lots of "love" from our toddler and puppy. We had no spare time or energy to tackle this, especially during the busy season for our tree care business. We love supporting a fellow family-owned business and liked that Jared & Stephanie started their business around the same time we did. You can see immediately that they really care about each of their clients on a personal level. Great communication and follow-through. They have a simple rate system (per hour/per cleaner) and we felt like we got great bang for our buck. Our Shiners, Kristin and Angie, were friendly, focused and meticulous. After a quick tour of the house and some banter with my toddler, they got right to work moving furniture. The house started smelling fresh and clean within minutes. I've arranged to have more frequent visits (1 cleaner for 2 hours, twice a month) during our busy seasons and I'm looking forward to maintaining this deep-clean feeling! read more

I wanted to post up a review for this business. I had a person from this company come to my townhome, he gave me a rough estimate. I left him the date and time I wanted for the service. I called today to confirm my cleaning for tomorrow and he tells me that we don't have an agreement and I didn't have any good contact information. Ummmm... why did you offer to come tour my apartment and not confirm and verify the correct information to contact me? This is just poor and unacceptable customer service. I work in the health care industry and I place the responsibility on us to make sure we have all the correct contact information to contact and follow up on patients. The same goes with any other business, it is the company's responsibility to do the follow up not the customer. Needless to say, no accommodations were attempted nor references made by the company to rectify the situation. All he said was he's sorry. Not the best way to show empathy to the hardship you placed me in since I have just today to figure this out. Thankfully I did find a company to do the job last minute. My advice, if you're going to make the effort to come by and tour an apartment, have an estimate set up, get all correct and verified contact information and set up a schedule that day! No excuses! No patient of mine leaves the office without an attempt to schedule their next appointment as we know continuity of care is key to good patient management. I cannot comment on their quality of work since I haven't had any active services done but from my experience with the customer service I will not consider this company for any further services. read more

The task of finding a great cleaning service is hard, let alone hiring a service and discovering that they are not all that great (which happened to us numerous times).  We went down that discouraging path with several cleaning companies over a period of a few years.  It happened so many times that I was seriously ready to give up finding a cleaning service.  But, I am SO glad that I didn't give up---because I found The Shiners.     We hit the jackpot when we hired The Shiners to clean our home.    From the first time I contacted the owner, Jared, to meeting him at our home for a walk through, to each of our monthly shinings, and all communication with Jared -  I am super impressed (and joyfully happy to have found such a wonderful cleaning service!)  They have been cleaning our home for one year and they are awesome!   I am at home when the cleaner comes, and I am not able to have them come in the mornings---but they always accommodate happily by scheduling the cleaning at a time that works best---and the cleaner is always on time.   Our 'shiner' is fantastic, with attention to detail.  We are so happy to have the same shiner (Kristin) come every month.  I never have to re-clean anything after she cleans our home.  She is also really nice. Their company is very professional, incredibly customer oriented; tailoring services to meet client's needs, providing the highest quality of cleaning, as well as providing superior customer service.   I love The Shiners and their services, and how nice and clean my home is with the monthly shines.  They go above and beyond---I am so happy--and wouldn't want anyone else to clean our home. read more

Move in/ move out apartment cleaning My roommate and I were in our apartment for 4 years, and we only maintained basic home hygiene. When he moved out I want to hire a professional to help me deal with years of grime. I was initially interested when I saw the The Shiners used natural ingredients in their home-made cleaning products. The last thing I wanted was for someone to spray down my apartment with a blizzard of chemicals. After contacting them via their website, they were able to fit me in quickly at a time that worked with my 8am-5pm work schedule. TL;DR- Great initial cleaning & then last cleaner was bad. Last cleaner couldn't properly rinse product off shower doors, so I have multiple layers of build up I am still taking off (4+ hours of my time and counting). I also had to show her how to mop wood floors, b/c there was a layer of water on my wood floors assuming that was "cleaning". The initial cleaning was great! My home was spotless, but then when one new shiner started doing the maintenance cleanings, she did a good job on everything except for the shower doors & wood floors. I noticed the shower doors looked like water spots all over them, & when I mentioned to the owner about this, he did ask her to spend more time on the doors. But that next cleaning, they actually looked worse. It dawned on me that she was not fully washing off the product, since she was doing something similar with the wood floors. I emailed the owner again & he mentioned that my doors may be beyond what their cleaning supplies could do for me. I was surprised since this was a new event. I spent about 2 hours cleaning the doors & I got some of the residue off, but in one area where I focused on & pressed hard for about an hour, it looked crystal clear. I sent the pics to the owner & he did agree that it was obvious that the doors were able to be cleaned. I have spent about 4 hours trying to scrub them clean & I hope to have all the product off after another 3+ hours. He said that they could return but either just not do the shower doors or use whatever product I wanted, but at that point I just wanted to do it myself since I knew I can scrub it harder. I also told him that I had to show her how to mop the floors because the last time she had cleaned, the floors had a layer of water on them that, when dried had water spots too. So I had to show her to rub harder to get the product in AND out. She said to me 'look how much pressure you are using, you are bending the mop'. I guess I like pressure on my floors to get them clean, but it's also the standard plastic bona mop. But the owner mentioned that Bona isn't a true cleaner. Bona has always cleaned my floors, granted their initial clean on their hands & knees was phenomenal, but I didn't expect that every time, nor a streaky dry floor. All in all, the deep cleaning was amazing and one of the shiners that returned did a great job. But this last one was super friendly but created more work for me in the end. I used a service to save time, but the time I saved is now being spent on trying to clean the product off, 4 hours & counting. I think the service will depend on who you get, but I also didn't like the owners response to the situation created by the last shiner. read more

We've been using The Shiners consistently for a little under a year and couldn't be happier. I sought them out for the use of eco-friendly cleaning products and continue using them for the great service. The same woman cleans our house each time, it's great to have started a relationship with her. She knows our house, our dogs and even keeps an eye out for dry house plants. It doesn't feel like a company is coming to clean our house, we have a relationship with the person. There is no way I'd be able to get my stovetop as clean as they do. We've been using the Shiners monthly since we moved to our new home back in August/September. We had them clean our new home and it was amazing! We decided to have them come in monthly to clean our bathrooms. We're cancer patients, my husband and I, and with joint damage and other crickety things going on, we need help cleaning! Angie is AMAZING! She cleans like a whirling dervish! In two hours she cleans both of our bathrooms and has time to dust everything and vacuum and she does our kitchen floors if she has time. 80.00 for two hours is a great price!
