    Yummy Porkies sandwich!

We had the best time at Evey's. Highly recommend stopping here and relaxing for a bit whether you are local or passing through! We were lucky enough to have some fresh strawberry shortcake with fresh blueberries .

Out Harley riding i stopped for lunch. It's a cute little family owned restaurant. I must have ordered the wrong thing becuz it wasn't good. I had a thin watery homemade broccoli soup that had one piece of broccoli branch (no buds) and a melted glob of cheese. Came with a delicious hot roll. Also ordered mini corn dogs that i am sure they buy by the frozen bag. Nothing special there but little baked corn dogs. Disappointed. I was going to have a burger but not even hand packed ground beef. Just frozen paddies. They did have a nice clean bathroom. Won't return.

    Homemade Raspberry Dutch Pie

Oh my goodness, I love this place! Janet and her daughter are such a sweethearts. The cafe is both clean and friendly, and the food was good! I had the burger dip with fries, then had their homemade raspberry dutch pie - so delicious and I definitely recommend. I will go back to try their homemade cinnamon roll and berry roll!

Dutch Caramel-ed Apple - home made pie! $4.00 a slice, 1/6 of the pie pan!!!

Mile High Homemade PIE!!!! Only $4.00 and $4.50 with a big scoop of ice cream on top... hot or cold! I had heard about the famous pie and decided to take the back roads from Longview-Kelso on Hwy 411 through the Vader area. It was a beautiful winding drive through the wooded mountains. A little more than an hour later we arrived at Pe Ell and found Evey's Cafe. After checking out the pie case I made my plan. My friend and I ordered off the Kids/Sr menu and each had the 1/2 sandwich (toasted beef and cheese, A+) and cup of soup (cheddar broccoli was okay, I like it super cheesy). I knew I needed to save room for the huge slice of pie I was going to get next. Today they had had Raspberry Cream, Dutch Caramel-ed Apple, Blackberry, Chocolate Cream, and assorted ice cream items, or, Strawberry Short cake if you didn't want pie.I chose the waitresses favorite, Dutch Caramel-ed Apple, warmed with ice cream on top. My friend (wimped out... LOL!) and got the Strawberry Short cake. When both desserts came to the table, we realized our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. But, we gave the old college try (really giving away my age using that phrase). The Dutch Caramel-ed Apple pie came for a large pie plat and was 1/6 of the pie. I would guess it was about 8oz and almost as tall as it was wide! The crust was neatly finished and cooked to a light golden brown. The apples were tender and lightly sweet with a mild flavor of cinnamon. The Dutch Caramel-ed topping was perfect! A thick rich sweet crunchy melt in your mouth goodness! I can honestly say it was the best slice of Dutch Caramel-ed Apple pie I have every had (& I bake my own!). It was just warmed to hot enough to still eat and the large cold ice cream slowly stared to melt as it arrived at our the table. And yes my friend liked her Strawberry Short cake, home made fresh sliced berries, smothered with whipped cream..... My Pie was better though... LOL! The restaurant was spotlessly clean, the staff fun and friendly. The two nice boys eating there at the same time as us, were a joy to visit with. Thank you for a pleasant and filling dinner!

Awesome food. Great service…read more Unassuming location. We arrived in town and by the time we were settled in to our hotel room, it was time for dinner. After looking on the internet for what's available, High Tide Grille sounded good. After a short drive from our hotel we found the unassuming single story building next to a thrift store. The parking lot was full. That's a good sign. Never eat at a restaurant with only a couple cars in the lot at any time. There is at least 4 employees working. Only 3 cars in the lot, keep driving. There was still some parking. We walked in as the last group was leaving. Sat immediately with water and menus soon after. The menu had some good choices. A little something for all ages. My Mother in law chose a French dip and fries. My Wife got the BLT and Fries. I wanted an order of Steamer Clams and Fettuccine Alfredo with Prawns. Our waiter took our order, unfortunately, they were out of clams due to supply shortage. No problem, I had trouble deciding on clams or calamari. No clams, no problem. I'll have fried calamari as our appetizer. All the food for our meal looked amazing. Unfortunately for the internet, the only picture I managed to take was of the calamari and we started eating it before I could open my camera app. Trust me. The pictures would be nice but it couldn't catch the reality of the food here. Amazing. The calamari was tender with a good crunchy batter. It was perfect. I'd come back just for the calamari. My Mother in law and my Wife had the genius idea of splitting there sandwiches. So they each got a French Dip and a BLT. Smart. I was not sharing my food, not after I tasted the sauce. The Alfredo Sauce was cheesy and savory. The Prawns were cooked perfectly and the Toast that it came with, da bomb. They could make a dish that was just the toast and sauce. I'd buy it. A lot. The ladies joyfully ate their sandwiches but complained they had a lot of fries. I.E. They both eat like baby birds. I didn't have any complaints. If I did have one suggestion, it would be, sprinkle a little fresh herbs on the pasta. Needs a little contrast in color. It would only be better. My other suggestion would be to never serve warm water. Our refill was a little warm. I was the only one who ordered a drink and it was only a soda. I can't tell you how many times at other restaurants, I was handed a fountain drink that was flat at best. Not at High Tide Grille, they handed me a can of soda and a glass full of ice. I couldn't have asked for more. It was only a soda but it was exactly the way I love it. Another home run for this unassuming grille. The ladies obviously didn't eat all their fries. We also didn't finish the calamari and I also didn't finish my pasta. Not because we didn't like something, but because it was a decent amount of food. Not overflowing but not skimpy. The prices were decent as well. I mean seriously, expect to pay higher prices anywhere near the coast. High Tide Grille wasn't that high priced in my opinion. For good table side service and great food, High Tide Grille was priced decent. I guess we have to come back and get those Steamer Clams another time. Awesome.

Rambling Jacks Rib Eye - Our Always-Stop Spot on the Way to Seattle…read more We stopped in for a late breakfast on our drive to Seattle and, as usual, it did not disappoint. My husband ordered the cinnamon roll French toast and I went with the Ranch Hand scramble. We split both (highly recommend doing this if you can't decide), and the portions were so generous that more than half of my scramble came home with us. What's impressive is that with portions this big, you'd expect something to give on quality -- but not here. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere is part of what keeps us coming back. The restaurant has that cozy, rustic charm and there's a cute little gift shop up front that's impossible to walk past without browsing. This time we grabbed some Valentine's white chocolates to take on the road -- such a fun touch. This has become one of our must-stop traditions to and from Seattle, and it's consistently worth it every single time.

The bar is rustic, has a good vibe and a ton of antique logging items to look at. You can bring your dog, and your dog can sit in a stool at the bar. There were probably 4 dogs at one point. You'll want to bring a dollar bill to sign and put on the wall. Billiards is free to play. You'll need to check out the bathrooms with the nudie pics..."I'm gonna be in here a while," I yelled to my cousin. The Saginaw Days happens in September which sounds like a fun family outing. The owner was a hoot. Said "that's the lying corner over there," pointing to a bunch of regular locals. They've owned it for about 4 years and left it the way it was. If you ask the owner to tell you the history, he will. It used to be a gas station 100 years ago. Mentioned a gentlemen who is 90 years old living in the house he was born in. There is an old bell that someone can ring when they want to buy the house a round of drinks. Bell came off an old steam engine. Before it was horse and buggy, donkeys, then it quickly modernized. When Saginaw Logging pulled out, it was the last of the big logs. They then started pulling out the train rails, as the wood trestles started rotting anyway, then sold the metal as scrap. They still do a lot of logging up there M- F so got to be careful when on the road. They put in Snoose Creek (the water trough by the bar) for the loggers to spit in. They couldn't smoke in the woods, bunkhouse, mess hall, etc. so loggers took to chewing tobacco. The tough guys just go ahead and swallow, the rookies would chew and spit. You'll see bottle caps in the parking lot as loggers used to throw them down to get grip on the wet muddy grounds for their trucks. It's a good hunting area. All the roads used to be open, but Warehouser, Park Blakley and others started locking their gates. The hunters have to pay $300 to get a key for the gate to go in now, so not as many hunters these days. We did dinner at Clark's restaurant on the way out. Good hamburgers and shakes.
