So, I hate this. I hate that this is how it went down, and that I'm writing this, and that I still don't have a cobbler here in the area. I'd heard mixed things about these guys and so figured as a first test I'd bring them something simple before asking them to work on something like my pink ferragamo flats that desperately need a new sole... anyway, I brought them some Lucky ankle boots that needed new heels. They were otherwise in perfect condition, but I walk a lot, and so the heels get worn pretty quickly and I love my shoes so I get them replaced regularly. Cost was $15, a week of waiting, all sounds good. They were friendly, looked busy and organized, and I was quite optimistic so didn't even unpack the shoes from the clear bag they were in. Unfortunately when I got home, all that optimism fell apart. Not only had they replaced the beige heels with thick black (poorly cut to boot...) heels on my shoes that did not fit any of the other colors, but they actually damaged BOTH shoes. The bigger heel is scuffed and scraped clear down to to plastic on both shoes, and they didn't even bother to fix or hid it in any shape or form. A small niggle is also the back - every other cobbler would have painted or covered the glue where the old and new heel met, but they didn't bother to do that either. So the end result is a mismatched heel and two damaged shoes that I'm going to have have fixed somewhere else now. I wish I had had a better experience, but I definitely won't be bringing anything back here and can't really even recommend them for simple black shoes or something because even if they can't see that colors match etc I'd be wary of them damaging anything else too. I'm sorry, both writing this and for myself who will still continue to cart her shoes to NY when I go visit. read more

One of our newer pieces of luggage had a zipper ripped off -- I mean *completely* ripped off, as in both the pull and the slider mechanism -- somewhere in an airport's baggage (mis)handling. I brought it to the Shoe Repair and was told they could fix it. I had to wait a week because the pull had to be special ordered, which was no problem. It was ready when they said it would be, the zipper works great, and they replaced a missing pull on a different zipper on the same bag free of charge and without being asked. The Shoe Repair is a small shop located on Fordham Blvd just south of Eastgate Crossing. I've used them for shoe repair recently on two separate occasions and both times they've done good work. You pay when leaving your items (typically $10.00) and are given a claim ticket (don't lose this). One odd thing is that there's a sign at the counter that says something about how all pickups are to be done after 3:30 PM. However, due to my work schedule this is not possible but I've never had an issue picking up during my lunch hour. Great place... The woman that runs this place is incompetent. The first issue is important: she cannot repair shoes. Secondly, she cannot FIND your shoes when you come in to pick them up. Thirdly, she ruined two pair of shoes and I had to throw them in the garbage as I walked out the door. Honestly, I've given her more than two chances and my basic cost for the repairs and loss of two pair of shoes is over three hundred dollars. The zipper broke on my tall leather english riding boots. I use these several days a week when riding my horse. The repair took some time because they had to order a special zipper. But, they were able to replace the zipper and it works fine. Then, the other boot's zipper broke so I took the other boot there recently. Brought in some oxfords to be resoled. The right shoe audibly squeaks like a rubber duck every time I lift my foot off after taking a step. Bad. Moreover we were told to come in on a specific day, when we get there in mid afternoon we were told the shoes weren't ready yet. Typically you should have something ready when you specify a day. Bad. And while this last point is nitpicky, I've taken these shoes along with several other pairs over the years multiple times to be resoled, it has always come with a free shine. Another cobbler confirmed that my shoes had been improperly resoled at this shop. Stitches were cut that should not have been cut, and then everything was glued back together. A year later, the shoes are falling apart. It'll cost $150+ to repair the damage. So, I'll confirm what the other reviews say. This shop is performing shoddy repairs. read more

The Shoe Butcher! If there was an option for zero stars I would give zero stars! I took in a pair of boots November 4 to be polished and have a zipper replaced and a hole repaired. The two ladies working there are totally unfriendly and look at you like they hate what they do. I was told to come back on November 13 to pick up my shoes and when I arrived they weren't ready. They acted like it's no big deal and told me to come in the next day. I told them to just call me. Days go by and no call. I finally called and oh yes they were ready. I went to pick them up and the new zipper did not match the old zipper color or the shoes and the stitching looked like garbage! There was a fresh hole in my shoe from their machine when they put in the zipper. After I complained they said they would keep it and order a new zipper to match, which they should have done in the first place. They told me to come back in a week, but I learned my lesson and called first. Surprise they weren't ready. I asked if they can please call me when it's ready (since they have a policy that says they're not responsible for shoes left after 30 days) and they agreed. Two weeks went by, and no call. I called and still no. I called several more times and finally called on December 15. They said, "Oh yes they're ready". I said they were supposed to call me when it was ready and she said, "We don't have time to call people". I'm sorry, I just left my boots for 6 weeks and you said you would call but now you don't have time? I guess they just expect you to call every day like it's your job, except it's their job... I went in to pick them up and yes the zipper matched better but the stitching looked awful and uneven. The hole I pointed out was still there. I pointed it out nicely and she said, "'Do you want me to take it out and you not have a zipper?" I said, "No but I'm not happy with this it looks sloppy for $35. She said its because I'm picky and she had to do it more than once and they aren't going to look brand new. Side note: they look WAY worse than when I brought them in! She also tried to tell me she didn't charge me $35. They didn't even bother to polish them which I asked for. I said, "It's not a great policy to argue with customers and she said she wasn't. I told her she lost a customer today. IF they don't know how to fix the shoes right, than why couldn't she have just told me that? I'm honestly not sure how they're in business. They are lazy crooks and have no idea what they're doing!!! read more

I've taken a few pairs of shoes here to be re-soled, and I've had mixed results. The people that work here are friendly and kind. However, one pair of shoes had black shoe polish on the suede part of the heel, and on another (wedge boots) they nicked the wooden heel. On the plus side, The other pair of shoes came out unscathed. They added a rubber sole to my favorite black flats and they did a great job. Would I recommend them? Only if you have a straight heel or sole replacement, I hesitate to take anything to them that is irreplaceable. read more

I took them back and she first told me she did not use brown soles (she had resoled them with BROWN SOLES!!!!) and then suggested that I had probably caused the crack. Tried this shop twice. The soles on my first set of boots wore out quickly. I took another set of boots in for heel replacement. They put a giant set of lug heels on the boots and attempted to make them fit by grinding them down. This left the outer set of lugs so thin they are bending over. I dropped off a leather sandal with a broken toe strap to be fixed. I paid ($10) when I dropped the shoe off and was told it would be ready in 5 business days. I arrived around 4:30 PM (they close at 5 PM) on the day I was told to pick it up, and was informed that it wasn't ready yet (poor customer service by not notifying me of this ahead of time). They told me to call and make sure it was ready the next day (again... not sure why they couldn't call me when it was ready). So, I called later in the afternoon on the following day and they told me it was indeed ready to be picked up. I inspected my sandal after I picked it up, and the toe strap was literally held together with a few pieces of thread sewn into the sole of the shoe, and it feels like it will break again within a few wears. I would have rather saved $10 and "fixed" the shoe myself with a needle and thread, while being spared the inconvenience of stopping by when my shoe wasn't ready in time. Poor customer service and poor attitudes. I will find another shoe repair when this sandal breaks again. read more
