Usually enjoy a good burger here but yesterday was a joke. Not an uncommon order lettuce tomato onion. But they severed little grape tomatoes cut in half. Ever try putting that kind of tomato on your burger. They just fall out of sandwich. I asked for fresh red onion. Some was fresh some was old We also ordered a chicken club. Again no tomatoes but instead of sliced chicken they put chunks of chicken like you would have on a salad. We asked why ? We are out of sliced chicken. Tomatoes and chicken just falling out of the sandwich. Not easy and certainly not enjoyable to eat. Perhaps they should at the very least tell you that they are out theses items. The lettuce was not brown but it was so wilted it was not edible. I realize they are a bar but if you're going to sell food at least have the food to prepare the dishes correctly and if they can't do that let the customer know whats going on. So surprised how good the food was here, was expecting bar food, and yet was surprised that their bar food was beyond what you'd expect. Just awful. I live a five minute walk away from here, but can only drag myself in about once a year, and then I remember why. On decreasing order of reasons why: The food is at best unmemorable. The menu is uninspired and prepared without care. They've got a full bar, but in a region with great beer everywhere, they take little care in deciding what to put on tap. Their ambience is just cheap to a point of failure. For instance, why are you serving me a burger and fries on a plate with about 3 square inches of surface area, along with a handful of paper napkins only brought out five minutes after request? And the service is just awful. Pour out the last quarter of my beer when I ask for the check. Drop my dinner off and disappear without asking if I need anything else. Went during lunch with some of my coworkers expecting with high expectations. Unfortunately we left disappointed from the food to the service. The food was kind of bland for almost $20. The service was slow though I do give props to the guy as looked to be himself running the whole restaurant by himself. The two stars are mainly for the overal experience. Our server deserves at least four and a half stars. She was attentive and friendly. Otherwise, just weird. This was our second time here. We came in for lunch around 1:15pm. Walked through a cloud of cigarette smoke to get to the door where a lady had been smoking, who ducked in when she saw us walking up. When we walked in, she greeted us from the bar, where she was sitting as a patron, eating and drinking. There were only two other tables occupied, one with two men who looked like they had set up office there - no food, just drinks, and another with a child who's dad obviously worked there. Food was okay, good enough. I had the club sandwich with fries and hubby had the cubano with sweet potato fries. The cubano wasn't authentic, but tasty. It took half an hour to get our food after we ordered. Noone else was ordering food, no take out orders being picked up. I dunno. Our first experience a couple years ago there was odd, too. We had ordered cocktails. We saw the cocktails sitting on the bar for a while. Then the owner or server started taking pictures of them. After they brought them to the table, they took more pictures of them with us in the background, that they later posted on Facebook. I heard this is "locals" kind of place. Having read previous reviews we expected a much different experience than we actually got. We ordered Coconut shrimp for an appetizer and a pork chop and burger. At the 30 minute mark I asked our server what was going on ... she came back and told us that she had no idea when it would be out but the were cooking it now. 5 or 10 minutes later both the appetizer and the entrees came out. Busy night as expected on a Saturday! The service and food did not falter. We ordered our appetizers and drinks with our bartender/server. I can't recall her name but she was phenomenal! Very attentive despite having to tend the bar and com table and being short staffed. Our dinner came out in a timely manner with no issues. Food was delicious as expected! I'm definitely adding The Shores to my restaurant rounds. The wings are amazing!! The Korean gochujang flavor were great, not really spicy at all, I'd give them like a 9/10. Lemon pepper flavor was great as well and perfectly crispy. I'd give those about a 8.5/10. I want to try the strawberry habanero but the waitress said they were really spicy. Let me not forget the burger though. I hate a dry, lacking-flavor patty on a burger and you will not find that here. The shores burger (cooked medium) was nice and juicy and the onions on it tasted great. My only complaint is that a little extra flavor would take this burger over the top. Maybe an aioli or onion jam or bacon or another sauce with some flavor. Idk but it was pretty good anyway. I'll say 8.5/10 for the burger. This is our second home every Thursday! We love coming here for karaoke CoCo is AMAZING and preps our favorite table with our carafe of coffee and our two mugs waiting for us we are treated like family by ALL of the staff and absolutely LOVE it here. Not to mention their food is delicious especially their pretzel with cheese sauce and chicken fingers okay now I'm hungry come check them out! We sat outside and had a great beer from the brewery in the same strip mall and waited. Went back after 25 mins to check and the indifferent-tempered hostess told us another 30 mins although we could clearly see empty tables. The band was setting up to play when we left after 40 mins and ordered pizza from another place in the strip mall. Love this new restaurant; however disappointed they have very few vegetarian options. Overall, the food is delicious. The portion sizes are a bit small, especially for the price you pay, but none-the-less, its tasty. The gluten free chocolate cake and the strawberry cheese cake are heavenly. Not too sweet, and just the right amount of goodness to make your meal complete. The service is hit or miss, but I'm hoping that with a little feedback, that will change. Having one waitress/server is probably not the best way to achieve quality customer service, and in fact can turn those away who could be loyal customers. This place's saving grace is karaoke Thursday nights. If ever I am in Oxnard on a Thursday night you can find me at the Shores. The KJ is the best. I usually sit at the bar and have dinner and drinks before the karaoke starts. I have never been impressed with the service I've received at the bar. Beers and atmosphere is amazing, the Mahi tacos are really good. When you come here you'll notice a bunch of locals coming and going. They have shuffle board and a lot of TVs you can watch whatever you want. They have a special sauce call their Russian dressing which is made in house along with their ranch.
