While my 16 year old was resting his eyes while drinking his soft drink, A random waitress stopped by the table and said no sleeping at the table. We came in to catch the France and Morocco World cup game and enjoy a meal. It was warm inside even with their windows opened. We wanted to sit on the booth which was facing the TV screens but since we were a party of 3 the server asked us to leave that table for a later group that might come later. A group did come later, but they only had 2 people and the server didn't ask them to move... there was an unpleasant smell when we sat down at our table, it turned out to be the menus. The food arrived at a reasonable time and tasted good. Would have enjoyed it more if there weren't any flies buzzing around too. read more

Would like to give this place 3.5 stars. Food was a solid 3 while the service and staff were a 4. I had the steak and ale pie and while the mashed potatoes and top were nicely baked and the gravey underneath it was good, the steak was a bit tough and chewy. Our waitress on the other hand was very friendly and courteous. Since it was a warm afternoon she kept out water glasses full and brought us another glass for our dog. My husband and I finally made it to Dargin's. We had an early lunch date and decided to eat at this charming Irish-themed restaurant. As we entered, we were the first ones there, so we were able to choose our seats. I opted for a booth, which offered a comfortable and great view of the entire restaurant. The ambiance of Dargin's was great. The overall decor gave a warm and inviting Irish charm. Our friendly and welcoming waitress promptly brought over our menus, and before we knew it, our drinks and appetizers arrived at our table. For our appetizers, I wanted to try something different from our usual appetizers. We decided to order the Tipperary appetizer, which was a creamy deep-fried chip and a rich, flavorful sauce. As for our main courses, we indulged in a chicken pot pie and the Fisherman's plate. Each dish was delicious, but the chicken pot pie stole the show. The flaky pastry and perfectly seasoned chicken soup were simply irresistible. To complement our meal, I had a blueberry Lemon drop martini, which was perfectly made! Took a little lunch date escape at Dargan's Irish Pub & Restaurant today, and if I closed my eyes, I could almost imagine I was in Cork, Dublin, or even Waterford for the day. We started with a creamy potato & leek soup, the perfect comfort food, and then split the fish & chips along with their legendary loaded potato skins. You come in and sit wherever you want! There were 3 TV screens playing the game. I decided to order the Leek & Potato Soup with the Chicken Pot Pie. The Chicken Pot Pie was tasty, especially with the golden brown flaky crust that you can dip into the sauce. I would say ordering the Leek & Potato Soup was a mistake since it was a creamy soup and adding that onto a creamy Chicken Pot Pie was too much. I do wish they used dark chicken meat instead of white but I'm having a really hard time finding a place that does dark meat. I'm excited to try the Shepherds Pie and other appetizers next time. I shall no longer eat at this restaurant, and I had enjoyed its food. The last time I was eating there, I observed a waitress pulling silverware, knives and butterknives, out of a large metal mixing bowl with her hands. She grabbed them, interestingly, by the tines and blades while she held a white tablecloth in her other hand. She then made a few whipping motions with the cloth as if she was whipping the silverware. It was disgusting to me, unhygienic, and I believe against food safety guidelines. This is all done in view of everyone, between the entrance to the kitchen and bar. In between these actions, she was handling dirty dishes and menus. I don't want anyone touching the tines and blades of my silverware. I won't be able to eat there again, and I and my friends are good customers. read more

Another visit and this time was quite nice. Our waitress, didn't remember her name but the nice southern accent from Alabama, she was a doll. Took care of us and was a gem. We got seated at one of the hi top tables along the strip. It was quite busy as Main Street was celebrating cinco de mayo (early) and the classic car show was also going on. Stuck to a pink of cider and lager. It was a slight wait for drinks but was ok. Majority of the people wanted to be outside as it was more lively so pretty busy. Started off with an order of the croquette which was quite tasty. Pretty sizable and came with an order of ranch and chipotle dipping sauce. As well as a side order of fries. Entrees, the classic Irish breakfast which we have had many of time. If you're hungry, this is a must. A plate full of baked beans, sautéed mushrooms, fried tomatoes, Irish sausage, potato croquette, fries, bacon, 2 eggs and brown bread. Quite tasty in my opinion. It's always good each and every time. I've been coming here for years, and just recently it's become a favorite date night spot for my girlfriend and I. Dargan's has always been consistently good, but our last visit was excellent. Everyone brought their A-game. We got to sit down by the fireplace and enjoy the occupied but not too loud section of the restaurant. It felt warm and inviting. The entire vibe of the restaurant is very pleasant. We started with the potato skins with homemade sour cream. A generous portion size for two people to share. We split a bowl of the amazing leak soup. I had a black and tan and she had a whisky sour. Both were refreshing. Finally for entrees I had the Mary Bridget pot pie and my girlfriend had the chicken pot pie. (It's her favorite and she has a hard time getting anything else haha). My Mary Bridget pot pie was outstanding. Piled high with mashed potatoes and a generous portion of hot filling. The lamb was tender and delicious. I'm usually very careful not to give away false praise for food, but it was (for me) perfect in every aspect. 10/10 absolutely no notes. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful with any questions we had. The restrooms are clean and comfortable. If you're here on vacation or a local that's been in the fence, you need to come around and have some grub. You won't regret it. read more

I had their Blackberry Twisted Lemon Drop which was fantastic!!! Lemon Drop is my go-to, and this might be the best one I've had. I want to try the Peach next time. I very hesitantly ordered the Chicken Pot Pie. I'm extremely picky about Chicken Pot Pie (I like it with less seasoning so I can taste the ingredients rather than a lot of seasoning). Came here for lunch today. Everything was fine initially. I got the fisherman's catch which came with 2 pieces of calamari, 2 small pieces of fried fish, 2 sautéed shrimp and 2 fried shrimp. It also came with fries. The food was good but a little overpriced for what I got. My husband got the Shepard's pie which he liked. One of my kids got a tuna melt, which would have been fine for $13 if it had come with fries, but for $5 to add it, it really wasn't worth it. My other kid liked his kid's grilled cheese, which came with fruit or fries. He opted for the strawberries. We also started with the potato skins which were covered in cheese and quite tasty. Madeline, our waitress asked if we wanted sour cream, ranch or both. We figured if it came with both then sure. When we finished we got the brownie sundae. That's where the issue started. My kids dove right in. I picked up a spoon and went to take a bite when I noticed a very long hair embedded in the brownie. I brought it to Madeline's attention. She asked if we wanted another one. I told her no, just to take it off the bill. She seemed a little surprised but left and returned with the check. There we noticed the up-charge for the sour cream. When I asked her about it, she said, "well I didn't charge for the extra cocktail sauce if that makes you feel better" in a snarky tone. At that point I asked for the manager. Adam, the shift lead took his time coming over and was no better than Madeline. He said he fixed the bill and took off the up-charge. I asked if that was all he was going to do based on our poor experience. His response, "I think I've been pretty fair." Wait, so you were fair because you took off the up-charge that you shouldn't have charged me for and you took off the dessert we couldn't eat because your cook lost her hair in it? His attitude was worse than the server's. What took the cake is that on the receipt they have the suggested tips. But the tips are off by almost 2%. The 18% tip is almost 20% and so on. So this restaurant is stealing from its customers on top of overpriced food and crappy customer service. Save yourself the hassle and being grossed out and go somewhere else. read more

Went to celebrate St. Patrick's Day early! Line took about 40 minutes for us to wait in and be seated. Service was amazing! Every waitress who walked by made sure we had what we needed. Loved the decor and the fireplace made it so cozy! Three bathrooms (individual) that were clean. Only complaint is I couldn't find Leitrim on the wall? (Where my grandmother is from). My son had the lamb stew with a Guinness and I had the Steak and Guinness pie. I especially loved the gravy and crisp carrots, but there wasn't much meat (3 pieces). Both dishes were delicious! It was hotter than heck in Bakersfield, so we spent a day in Ventura. We were looking for a good place for fish and chips and Dargan's came up. It was a short walk from the free parking lot and they had outside seating. Perfect. Despite being a busy weekend, the service was quick and efficient. We ordered the fish and chips and a bowl of clam chowder. Since I'm driving, I ordered their lemonade. The food came quickly. Four pieces of beer battered cod. The crust was not to thick. It was very tender fish and perfectly cooked. The servings were generous, allowing us to split them. Sitting out on the patio was just a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. One of my go-to restaurants in Ventura - food is always consistently good, drinks are well-made, and they have a great ambiance. Love that they have the traditional fare section of their menu, and I will usually always order from that section. The corned beef and cabbage is DELICIOUS. Super tender and flavorful corned beef with buttery, smooth mashed potatoes and tasty cabbage. Their all-day Irish breakfast and spicy chicken curry are some of our other favorites. Also have a great bar selection, and the Smash Strawberry is one of my favorite cocktails. Light and refreshing but super tasty. They have both indoor and outdoor seating - outdoor seating has heaters, and they allow doggos. Great stop for dinner or a drink! read more

This was our 3rd visit to Dargan's (Father's Day) and we enjoyed the food very much on the first 2 visits. Something was definitely OFF yesterday. We had to ask 3 different people to clean our table. We had to ask 3 times for napkins and the table was not set up before the appetizer arrived. My son and daughter ordered drinks which NEVER arrived ans we had to have the bill adjusted. As for the food, to say it was sub par would be a compliment. My daughters club sandwich had bacon as hard as a brick which passed the crispy stage a a week ago. My son's chicken pot pie was chicken soup in a greasy pool of oil. My BLT was as dry and as stale, with bacon as hard as leather that not even a bowl of mayo wouldn't have moistened. When I said to the waiter to take off the drinks we never got he said " You should have reminded me." I don't normally complain but this meal was the worst and we won't be going back a 4th time to Dargan's. Not pleasant in the least. read more

I've seen this place multiple times as Ventura is one of our spots we hit up on the weekends. We decided to give it a shot with another couple. Going in on a Saturday evening to eat dinner between 730pm and 8 PM, I was a little nervous that we wouldn't find a table so I emailed them and reserved one ahead of time which they responded promptly that it would not be an issue. We arrived and were seated in the bar area, which was half booth and half high chairs. The waitress arrived quickly and took our drink orders, which they have a very extensive list of both beers/wine as well as spirits. My wife ordered the salmon salad, which she is still raving about while I ordered the pot roast sandwich and french fries which was delicious. The service was solid as was the atmosphere. Definitely enjoyed it and will be coming back on another trip. read more

She was snapping at us and quick to judge us like we had to hurry up and order. We don't eat there much, but when family comes out to visit we dine there.
