Beautiful setting, but that ends the good part of the review. This is basically boardwalk fastish food. Fries-not hot; hot dog on a cold roll. Haystack sandwich had good flavors, but all served in disposable paper boats. We had much better in downtown niagara at a food truck. And that was cheaper. Bathrooms were filthy, and when we asked to have our table cleaned, the employee brought out a dripping wet rag, wiped the table and walked away. We had to get piles of napkins to dry it. Would definately not recommend or return. read more

I have been to the Silo a few times but this is the first time I ordered the full sized Haystack. What a sandwich. A 12" sub roll piled high with shaved steak and crispy shoestring potatoes. It's a meal for two or in my case, two meals. The beef was tender and flavorful. The sandwich was messy to eat as it should be. I can't believe that after all the times I have been there this is the first time I ordered this delicious monster. I will never order anything other than the Haystack ever again. Try it, I know you'll like it. Side note, if you make a cell phone call from there with roaming on, Canada will make a money grab. Just call your provider and tell them you weren't in Canada and they should waive the roaming charges. read more

The Haystack was delicious and you couldn't beat the view of the Niagara River. Highly recommend capping off with the cannoli ice cream.

We found out about The Silo when we ran into a family with dogs; we wanted a recommendation for a place to go out to eat where we could take our dogs. They told us that The Silo was visited by the Food Network show "Man Vs Food." What a great recommendation! The Haystack is the generously stuffed steak and cheese sub with hash brown crumbles on top. The shaved steak was excellent. It's no surprise that this is what made them famous. I got a side of crispy onion rings that were not too greasy. But, there was a lot more to like here. The grilled chicken sandwich was very nicely seasoned. The fries on the side were nicely salted and crispy. This place does crispy well. We got a side of coleslaw that was tasty but a bit overdressed. The Silo is doing their part or keep people safe. You can only enter with a mask when ordering. There are many benches outside for dining (no indoor dining at the moment). The tables have a sign you flip over to show you ate there; then, they can sanitize the table. One thing to note is that all sandwiches are sold separately from the sides. The cost adds up (dinner for 5 cost us $85). One cool thing (literally) is the ice cream "caboose" right next to The Silo. The scoops are massive: the "baby" size has a golf ball sized scoop, and they give you a guide to sizes as tennis ball and softball sized. Plus, the flavors are excellent and varied: Baskins Robbins has 31 flavors? Big deal. There over 40 flavors here. The sundae is rich and tasty, and the rainbow sherbet is also delicious. Got the Haystack sandwich from here to go for lunch/curbside and thought it was great! I recommend eating it fresh as when I ate it it was already about 20 minutes after getting it and the bread held up OK, but it wasn't crispy. The sandwich was LOADED with meat. There was so much soft meat and crunchy hash browns on top of the sandwich. The meat was delicious and the hash browns on top were amazing. They gave the sandwich a good bit of crunch. The restaurant itself has lots of social distancing signs and they seem to have a patio with tables 6 feet apart. I would definitely recommend at least the haystack sandwich from here -- it's delicious if you like steak! read more

After hiking Devil's Hole State Park yesterday, I came here to rehydrate and to eat! I'm so glad I stopped here. Although it was pricy, the view of the water was so nice. The service was good. They want you to order off of a QR code on their menu but my phone had cruddy reception near the restaurant so I ordered where the menus were. I ordered a Haystack sandwich, sweet potato fries, and a beer from Brickyard Brewery. The Haystack was amazing! It's seasoned rib-eye steak with mozzarella and toasted hash browns on top. It was so delicious! I bought my boyfriend a burger, a split, and a beer. I ordered fries for myself because I thought the split wouldn't have been enough for both of us but it would've been. A split is half fries and half onion rings and they were really good. They only cook their burgers well done so medium rare wasn't an option but my boyfriend was fine with it. I had to get up and walk a bit to get our food but it made me happy and was so good. I think they had an ice cream caboose area on the other side of the seating area with bear statues in the front of it. The view of the water was great and I'd happily return. read more

Last summer I would've rated The Silo 5 stars. Hubby and I made our first visit back this season. We love the view and I usually love the food. After our recent visit, I decided the food is just too pricey. For $9 you get a cheeseburger with no side. You're paying for the view. I always get the fish and chips or the Austin Burger which comes with cheese and guac. You get about a quarter size or less of guac in the middle of the bun. So you basically have to eat the entire burger before you reach the guac. For $9 and no side, the guac should be spread across the whole bun in a layer thick enough to taste and enjoy it. I'm also never full after. The fish and chips is good. For $14 you get 12oz of fish plus fries which I do think is fair, but i'm not always in the mood for it. Hubby always gets the Footlong Haystack which is ribeye meat on a 12 inch hoagie roll with melted mozzarella and hash browns. He adds bacon for $2 extra. $17 which I think is pricey. He enjoys it though and he at least is full after. My tray was dirty when I got my food. I ordered a burger that came on a paper container. I very much doubt the crumbs collected in 3 out of the 4 corners of the tray made their way there from the kitchen to me before I even touched my tray. Our table was also dirty. Great location on the Niagara river and a really well done building and grounds, with a restaurant with great views and indoor and outdoor seating & eating. So I finally made it here...I love the location...looking right out to Canada across from the Niagara River. There is seating inside and outside and the food of course is the normal hot dog/with a spin. They do have other options, salad, hoagies and the haystack! You order on the inside and they have a pick up window when your buzzer goes off. You fill your own cup for drinks and they also have coffee for those cold days. They even are earth friendly with paper straws. I had the BLTT - Hoagie that gives you a lot of bacon, I upgraded to a combo for a side and drink. The amount of turkey and bacon was unreal. So good and fresh. My hubby ordered the foot long with cheese and Silo Sauce. The sauce had a kick but it was good. When you finish you need to stop by the caboose for dessert. I bought a ice cream cookie and so did my husband. We couldn't even finish one together. Great place and perfect area for lunch. This place was awesome and i can't believe i haven't gone sooner since I went to NU down the road for four years. Went to silo over the summer, was too busy or a long line. You order first then bring your buzzer to your seat you pick. There isn't a bad seat in the house as it is a circle and you 360 views of the river. They have shades to pull down for when it's cold or rainy. The food was amazing of course, I got the cheeseburger and fries because why not. It was very juicy and flavorful. I couldn't finish the whole thing either. I would love to return to try something else and just hang out around the area. We came here on a Sunday evening for dinner. During this time, the restaurant did a really great job at keeping up social distancing guidelines as well as disinfecting tables. The menu was super exciting and out of the box. However, I think it's a little corny that the restaurant throws the "man vs. food" advertisement all over the restaurant. (Apparently they were featured) which is awesome for sure! But i found it to be a bit corny. I really loved that they had a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. I ordered the "vegetarian haystack" (which was the man vs. food featured food) which is made with garden burger, mozzarella cheese, piled with hash browns. I thought that was awesome they made it vegetarian for those who don't eat meat to see what the hype is all about. In my opinion, it was less than exciting. The hash brown on top of the sandwich were dry, old tasting, and flavorless. The entire dish was tasteless and underwhelming. I was really disappointed especially for the amount of money we spent. Came here for the first time on a summery Saturday night around 7:30. We were hoping it wouldn't be very busy at this time, especially because it is right on the water with a spectacular view of the Niagara River and Canada. No more than five minutes elapsed and our number was called. We went and got our fountain drinks and food. We sat back down and it took all the control to get a picture first before eating it! Soooooo gooood! Batter on fries and rings was perfect; very light. Sandwich was perfectly cooked and for the regular size (not a foot long), it was still big! I like the Silo, A LOT...in fact, I wish it was open year-round. I'm not sure I can ever convince my wife to go back, however. Last time we were there (last year/2022), she tried a turkey sandwich...in an effort to try something other than the haystack (which we both love). She got pretty bad food poisoning. We let them know, just for the sake of it and they seemed generally concerned but we're mostly "it comes in cooked...maybe it's the vendors fault, no one else is sick." Having worked in prepared foods, it's not uncommon for cross contamination or deli meat to go bad. Especially in a seasonal/open air place. Anyway...we both love the place and we tried to figure out if it could've been anything else and pretty much narrowed it down to that food. That was a rough few days.
