Once upon a time these were everywhere, and one of my favorite breakfast chains. Today they are few and far between so when I see one I stop. I was greeted and seated right away. By the time I got my coffee I knew I wanted the Rio grande skillet. I chose pork for the meat. This is a potato base, with chili sauce topped with eggs and veggies served with pancakes. They are famous for the pies and it happens to be free pie Wednesday. This is an older restaurant but it is clean, the food is good and the service is quick. We were visiting our son and got sick of eating the free hotel breakfast. This place was near our hotel and we decided to give it a try. We are so happy we did! Dylan makes this place extra special! We were surrounded by regular customers and he knew their orders from memory. His tag line was "tear it up" as he happily presented each plate of food. His happiness was contagious. The food was delcious and fairly priced. We returned the next day and he remembered our orders. Amazing! We bought 3 pies to bring to my son. His entire house loved the pies. My group and I came here on a Sunday morning for breakfast and had a great experience. We were seated quickly and the food came out fairly quickly as well. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and everyone just seemed in a good mood! Food wise, also 5/5. I got the double decker sandwich with a side of crinkle cut fries and it was really delicious. You can to choose which bread you want it on and I chose sourdough. Everything tasted really fresh and the portions were huge! The fries were perfectly cooked and well seasoned, which is always appreciated. The cheesesteak skillet also came with a side of bread. The portion looked a small, to me, but it was reported that it was tasty. I also got to try a slice of the peach lattice pie, and it was okay. Village Inn is well known for their award winning pies, but I don't think they won any awards for the peach pie. I believe it is their key lime pie that is award winning. The peach pie was okay, but nothing special at all. It tasted like it came from a grocery store and the filling was a bit gummy towards the edges. I wouldn't get the peach pie again, but everything else was delicious. read more

This was quite a pleasant surprise! We stumbled into this diner during a snowstorm and we were super close by so we decided to try it. Might be a chain. If so, this is the first time I've visited. Got a denver omelette which came with hash browns and my choice of other starch. Ordered cranberry juice and it was a GENEROUS serving. Like, probably 14-15 oz. Huge glassful. Server was fast and effective though kept trying to pep it up with comments like "tear it up". I guess it's better than being glum Hash browns ok though a bit soggier than I like. I didn't specify scattered though so that's on me. Denver omelette passable. Not many restaurants left in the Provo Orem area so one would think things would be better as far as the food goes ie the patty melt I ordered today ( terrible ) no flavour, cold, hamburger looked and tasted like soy. You can do better, the breakfast meal was ok but could have been larger portions for the cost. Good news, our waitress was spot on very friendly and helpful. Hope this helps you and the clientele. Ordered a Reuben and fries, nice sandwich for the price, only $11 used to much larger sandwiches back east but for 15.00. Could have had more Russian dressing. The other meal was the Ultimate skillet, sausage, bacon, ham, scallions, cheese, two eggs and home fries and was equal to any diner back east. Service was great and food served in 5 min. Just had a spectacular chicken dinner here. Chicken breast with artichoke, fresh spinach and sliced grape tomatoes, delicious rice pilaf, fresh and perfectly-steamed broccoli and a lemon herb sauce. To top it off, I had a slice of apple pie that was perfect. Perfect! Apparently their pies win awards and I do believe they should. I found this unassuming restaurant by driving up and down University Avenue...I had been calling both Sizzler and Ruby River but they were too busy to answer their phones. The Village Inn building is unassuming and I almost missed it but the green roof caught my eye. So glad I found it. Nice staff, reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. Fresh and delicious. Wasn't planning on eating out but the glow of the orange signage and the availability of parking spots beckoned us to change our minds. We hadn't been to a Village Inn in over two decades. I must admit, I had my reservations but my husband had/has a special connection with the place so I agreed to give it a try. Walking in we immediately noticed the glass pie case adjacent to the cash register offering several selections of baked and cream pies. Their weren't many customers when we arrived so we were seated relatively quickly. My husband decided on a pancake, sausage, egg breakfast meal and I decided on the turkey dinner. While waiting for our food to arrive we noticed the restaurant was exceptionally well kept and clean. The decor has a bit of a nostalgic vibe to it which promoted our sharing of various memories eating in such a establishments with when we were growing up. Our food arrived fairly quick. Husband enjoyed his breakfast. I was surprised that the turkey was fresh as I was anticipating something more like sliced turkey roll. The cornbread dressing wasn't bad but definitely reminded me of stove top stuffing and I was a bit disappointed that instant mash potatoes were used instead of real mashed. Nonetheless, it was a good. Had the opportunity to speak with the evening manager when we were paying our bill. Found out that there are some thing like only 116 Village Inn's left in the country and that this particular location is number one. We aren't often in the area but we would consider going back when we're in the area again if for no other reason then to enjoy a piece of pie. read more

It's Village Inn. I mean, what were you expecting? It's exactly what you think you're gonna get when you go to any of these chain breakfast/diner things. The food is better than Denny's but not as good as IHOP. The service is fine, sometimes the wait staff is good sometimes they're terrible but more often than not they're simply adequate. Let's be honest here: you go to VIllage Inn for the pie. All the better if that pie is free. My work always has our staff meetings here sin it's the closest VI to the office and always on Wednesday. We got here at 11:55 pm and the manager on the shift said, "Sorry we are closed, we close at midnight". I explained it was 5 min to close and she replied, "my cash register computer says it's 12:00 so we are not talking more customers. I asked her to please look at my cell and see it was 11:56 pm and we drove all evening for 5 hours from Las Vegas and were very hungry. She showed no sympathy or interest. Then I was forced to say "okay, you leave me no option." I turned on my cell camera and South customers paying starting to film her and sled again why she was refusing my business since it was only 11:57 pm and had lost 2 min debating the time and I also panned the camera down on my wife's cell to verify the time. The Manager then realizing she was being taped asked me to stop recording and said she didn't want "any trouble from your kind". WTF!? My retort was, "Are you referring to me being hispanic?" This was offensive and she then replied, "no I just mean trouble maker". Well Ma'm I have it on camera and you either serve me or it hits YouTube. I understand you want to cut out early and I'm her last minute, but your hours of operation are midnight and second, your cash register time is completely wrong and you should correct it to Greenwich correct time to be fair. We were contacted by Village Inn and I spoke to the manager on the phone about our previous poor experience. She was very apologetic and invited us to come back and give it another try. We went again a few weeks ago during a more quiet time and we sat at a clean booth, with helpful employees and enjoyed the food again. From my experience it looks like they really do care about the customer's experience and the manager was very encouraging of us communicating any issues we had while we were there. We will be back. For me, this place is all about breakfast. Whatever time of day it is, I'm all about the omelettes, pancakes, and of course, bacon. It's typical diner food, at typical diner prices. You won't go broke here. Their coffee is okay, and I love that they leave a carafe on your table so it's not on the waitstaff to keep your cup full. But, if your party includes more than one coffee drinker, that carafe goes quick, and you're back to square one. All I've had on their breakfast menu I would order again, but there is nothing I'd recommend specifically. It's all relatively standard. Pretty much everything comes with the option of pancakes. And of course you should get them. They're pancakes. Hubby is really into their Club Sandwich. It comes well-stacked on your choice of bread, quartered, and cut in wedges, with a plateful of fries. It's one of his favorite sandwiches, ever. Plus, PIE! And it's good pie. Like, really good. Better than Marie Callendar's. And on Wednesdays, it's free with your meal. FREE, people. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner - or even just coffee - and ... FREE PIE! The service we've had here has always been acceptable, even great at times. I've pretty much decided that when I choose to be a friendly and open-minded customer, and treat the waitstaff with respect, the waitstaff takes pretty good care of me. It's rare that doesn't hold true, regardless of where we are. The only service-related issue I've had, and still continues to be buggy, is their choice of check-out method. I don't like standing in line to pay in the crowded all-in-one waiting area, where incoming and outgoing customers get to battle it out WWF-style for elbow room. Not cool if it's crowded. All considered, I like Village Inn. This location is a bit more "small town" than others, but sometimes that's exactly what my inner child needs. Is it an epicurean's dream, or at all special in any way? Not really, no. On a typical day, there will be a large party with several children having their own personal circus. But it's still a damn site better than the slop served at McDonald's, iHop, and most other mass-produced breakfasts you'll get. it has been two days now since I have been to this place and now I have a food born illness. I wrote a review on google and would assume a 1 star review would at least get a comment back, but it seems like the management only cares about the good reviews and reply's to them. when I brought up my bad service to the restaurant manager she didn't make an attempt to apologize. based on my experience the only thing this business is interested in is the bottom dollar. these guys are close to closing their doors and it reflects in the food, service and staff. this place use to be the spot but it looks like covid really hit this place hard and they have not been able to recover. this place used to be open 24/7 and people would always be lining up. when I was in there customer base looked like it was a retirement homes outing. not to sound ageist but when most of your customers is over the age of 60, Gordon Ramsey would have the time of his life roasting the manager. read more

Every. Single. Time. I come to this Village Inn, the service is absolutely terrible. Either the waiters/waitresses don't care and will never come to your table, or they will blatantly let you know how terrible you are for coming in. I am completely blind to terrible service most of the time, because I really don't care enough, I just wanna eat. But if I noticed it, somethings wrong. I'm not a picky eater, I really just have a problem with tomatoes. So when I say "I'll have the ____ with no tomatoes", I really don't appreciate the sigh of resentment and the eye roll and grumble of disgust. I know it's not that demanding of a request.
